QUOTE: BEEGLE55 I was watching the Weather Channel at noon today, and they had a video of the cars on the interstate slidding around doing 360's last night. I guess you guys have had some tough early Spring weather in WV !!!!

Hi ***, you think that was bad, I was watching our weather network yestreday and they showed pictures of edmonton's first storm of the spring. They must have got about 18" of snow. the opne shot they kept showing was a full sized city bus sliding sideways throuhg an intersection with it's wheels spinning. No joke ! The snow was half way up their wheel wells[:0]

[#welcome] BEEGLE55 I haven't made your aquaintance yet.[8D]

On a happier note here's a couple more shots of CN oldies but goodies still doing ther thing. [tup]

UKMatt:
QUOTE: My brother has one of the Walthers N scale ones somewhere which tracks well enough but doesn't roll particularly well, it needs two Lifelike GP38-2s to move the thing.
Metal wheels help there too. I also tune each truck side frame (aka pull on the axel bearing ends, gently) until the wheel set is freely rotating. Test result by seeing how freely the truck rolls, and don’t stop until it is truly free rolling. A light touch is required. The resultant distortion-from-true of the side frame doesn’t show in N unless one is really, really picky.[:D] Even then, the better performance should satisfy the pickiest.

Andrew:
QUOTE: i was just thinking that insulating the tracks on my yard might make wiring it easier but didint know how bad the rails would move around at the rail joiners
They don't move much at all. If you are concerned, probably best to pin the ties to the road bed with track nails. If you have a small drill, that will help, as $s to donuts you won’t have holes predrilled in the ties where you want them every time. Failing the small drill, cut the head off a track nail, and use that in a small hand drill or pin vise. The ballast is going to cover the nails anyway. So the number you use isn’t a visual factor, eventually.[:D]

TrolleyRob: thanks for those CN loco shots. They have the GMD1s in Edmonton too.[tup]

Good Evening Gang: I’m back to 28.8kbs. Der I don’t know how you get all those pictures posted.

Ed, don’t be telling me to not go to any trouble. I’m making progress getting ready for your visit.

I ran the two 2-8-0s tonight. Neither one started out very well but did get better as they ran. I don’t think that they run as well as the 2-10-2. I do like the way they look. When Bachman decided to make a steamer the sure picked a great prototype. I left the two parked side by side on the double track mainline. A very pleasing picture it is.

Well I’m going to hit the sack. Good Night All

Hi all got some gret pics of fergi running a tug boat (he slipped down to LA. and didn't even tell teffy he was there if you want to see some great pics send me an eamil with your email in it and will fwd to you understand theres 19 pics to this story so it takes a while to down load but it is very funny to see this and unbelieveable on top of that

Well I choked on the walk around again but am getting better so she made arangements for me to take it again tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. Here in VA its not my responsiblity for the passenger to have a seatbelt on unless they are under 16. But I would still tell her that its company policey for anyone to ride in company truck must have a seatbelt fasten and beside its the LAW .

Yes they look for things like that . Like today one of the other guys from work took the test and passed but she asked him what would you do your in a plaquered v3ehicle (this one isn't as I'm not doing hazmat but the other guy wasn't either but shes use to the ones from work are) any way asked him what would he do as there are railroad tracks there I laughed when I heard this coment he stated I would stop get out and ask you to drive as I don't have a hazmat endorsement and I can't drive it if thats the case. when she came back she told that laughing and stated it was the best answer she has had for that question.

You all have a good eveining.

Okay guys, just a quick check in. We're working on getting the last stuff in teh suitcases before the trip. Cab to the bus station at 11:15 and a midnight bus to Mexico City. I'm going to try to get back to that same place where I took the photos of the trains 3 weeks ago. That plus the fan trip on Saturday ought to make it a pretty good train weekend.

We come back Sunday night. So I'll be offline again for a few days.

Okay Paul, looking forward to seeing it.

Keep the faith guys, see you (virtually speaking) probably on Monday.

Regards

Scott! You're scaring me! Don't you have a Loco to put that horn on?

Well it's snowy here and O'cast and apart from that not much else to say, Though I did get half the freight yard ballasted last night[:D]

Aggro: nice to here about the forest. I suspect when I get some of the ground work out of the way I'll be looking to do some "Home Grown " trees.

Rob: We had a bunch of those here several years ago. Don't know what they did with them?!?

Morning all,

Some coffee, black please Chloe, thanks. Oh, and I think I'll have one of wetidlerjr's donuts too please. The one with the white icing and chocolate sprinkles please. Thanks wetidlerjr!

Scott,

That horn is going to scare the bajeebers out of somebody! That thing is huge. What does it take to power that thing? Sure hope I don't run into you on the road. I'll have to change my underware if you sneak up behind me. You sure that thing isn't off of a large ocean liner or something? I think the Queen Mary needs her horn back!

BTW, I can't remember if you said that you were looking for just steam chassis, or the "D" word also. If you want on eof those nasty "D" word things, how about this?

Good morning one and all. A little over an inch of wet snow overnight. Just enough to be a nuisance, and require clearing from steps and ramp. Never mind, once cleared the steps etc. dried off quickly, that’s got to be a sign of Spring.[^]

I agree, but look at it this way...Willy Mo did better last night (2-3 w/ a 2 run homer) than did that traitor JD (1-4). Plus, with the addition of Willy Mo, it does give us a back-up for Nixon and from the looks of it, made Juan Gonzales go sign w/ the A's instead of showing up for camp yesterday. Also, what was Bronson's #'s when he had to bat as compared to Willy Mo's?

Good afternoon gents, a beautiful clear blue sky today, and no wind, temp at 48.5F, so it should hit 52 by 3pm, AND, the sun officially set AFTER 6pm tonight....Spring marches onward.

JP Yes, I agree with your assessment re the trades and the new guys. Also, Trot has a lot of trouble hitting left handers, and, he has had some recurring injuries over the past several years, we definetely need a back-up outfielder with some speed and bat.

DER JOHN Have no fear, the Polar Vortex is pulling away, ever so slowly, warmer air is on the way next week John. BTW, I hear that Fergie is REALLY building an addition to his house for a train room as well as the room over the garage for his dad. Fergie has gone stealth mode I fear.

Howdy howdy howdy y'all.[:D]

I've been in a very good mood lately. Must be because I have a date to Prom this year, and possibly a date tomorrow night.[8D] Although, this time it is a different girl because the other girl I took out, well, had some drug problems.[xx(] So yeah, this one is clean.[;)]

Andrew: The horns would be quite a surprise on the highway. I just won't use them unless someone cuts me off or something.[:p]

Fergie: I wish I had a loco to put them on, but they really don't compare to that of a five chime Nathan.[:D]

PC: The horns run off of a small compressor and the 12V car battery. I'll have a seperate button on the da***o control the horn, because I like the sound of my standard one. And the horn I bought was one of the smaller models I have found.[8D] Thanks for the links, I may have to get a diesel chassis for a project I'm thinking of.[;)]

Cox47: I plan to have quite a ball with it.[(-D]

Okay y'all, I'm out for the night, catch y'all later.[C):-)]

Good Evening Gang: Well I just came up from the basement. I did some more cleaning. I can now get to the end of the layout at the east wall. By the time Ed gets here we may be able to see the whole layout. I also ran the 2-8-0s again. I think that the more they are run they will get even better. I did some switching with one and it handled very well. I've got to dig out some of my brass and get them lubed up and wheels cleaned. It's been awhile since I ran them. Tomorrow we make our weekly trip to the feed store. I think that I'll go by HD and see what they have that I can use to put on the cement block walls to get a good surface for a back drop. For the time being it will be sky and clouds. I'd like to make one end of the back drop look like an approaching storm. I haven't seen that done before. If I add sounds of far off thunder it should be very interesting.

I think that polar vortex has come to Texas. Yesterday it was only in the low 40s, today it maybe made it to 45, and tonight it is going to freeze. Goldernrackenfrackin weather. Woooops, can I say that?

Scott: Are you sure that your car can carry that horn?I'd think that you may come close to overloading it.

wetidlerjr: You shouldn't do that to this bunch. Some of us with diabeties have enough trouble with our blood sugar with out you bring in stuff like that.

A fellow who came to us from New Orleans and now works at this Six Flags park came out to see the 71/2 inch gauge. I showed him my layout and then we went over to my friends place and took a look at his. Chris had been working on a 15in gauge 2-6-0 when he was flooded out by Katrina. Now he is going to do a 71/2in locomotive some what like mine. That means another hand to work on and run our railroads.

Well I'm going to hit the sack. My bed to everyone and welcome to all the new folks. I haven't said that lately.

I'll pass on the doughnuts bit I'll have an O.J. today thank-you

The only thing that might be a problem with the physical part if they ask about any up coming medical proceedures or anything like that. Then my ICD may come into play with it but the lady giving the driving exam said I might have to get a medical wavier and it would just limit my driving to within the state of VA. for CDL Driving .

Like one of my bosses said if they don't ask don't volenteer and it will get you buy for 5 years anyway .

Oh well we'll see as I should have that appointment next week sometime

Well I'm now a proud owner of a lionel 6800 flat car with bonaza airplane on it another nice addition to my collection .

Morning everyone!

I'll pass on the donut, still workin' off the one from yesterday, but I will do some coffee. Thanks Chloe.

Scott,

When I saw those diesel chassis I thought of you. I figured that might be up your alley.

RT,

Reupping the CDL, huh? I used to have one, loved driving the big stuff. Rather a commanding view of the road, huh? I hope you do well on your test.

All,

I've made mention of you in my prayers. I hope that all is well with you, or at least moving in that direction. If it doesn't appear to be moving in that direction right now, try changing your point of view. Try looking at it from God's point of view. Maybe then it will make more sense.

Gotta run....Phones are about to come on.....Later!

Hi all

Not much happening here, trying to get the first chapter of the Dissertation finished with references, etc.

Rob, I think that’s on the “dream jobs” list, replacing Jeremy Clarkson when he retires from Top Gear. Judging by what I’ve seen on TV I’m better with diesels than he is already…

Scott, is there space for those things under the bonnet/hood? I’ve taken a look at some air horns but obviously can’t test them in the store, I’d have to fit an extra pushbutton too as the regulations over here say the standard horn can’t be an air horn, although you can add those as an extra. Regarding those little Kato 4-axle chassis that PC posted, they’re intended to fit these http://search.stores.ebay.co.uk/Wellington-Models_kato_Bandai-N-Scale-Shorty-Kits_W0QQfcdZ2QQfromZR10QQfsubZ11QQftsZ2QQsaselZ27347618QQsofpZ0 which may also be of interest – I’m rather tempted to get one of the Class 113 units.

Aggro, the problem is that our government are now very keen on as many people as possible getting degrees, so the result is that the jobs market is full. Quite how a degree in “Surf Science” as offered by one institution (I’m not making this up – there really is such a course!) is supposed to compare to more traditional subjects is anyone’s guess!

John, I think the wheels were most of the problem. It’s currently lurking in the stock cupboard as we’ve nowhere to run it at the moment.

Bye for now

Good afternoon everyone, cloudy, showery and cool 41F degrees today, we did get more yard raking done before the showers started, however, the mailman came and brought some books I ordered on layouts by John Armstrong, frieght cars, yards, etc. so I can settle down with hot coffee and enjoy the read this afternoon.

Regarding the weather, I was watching the Science Channel last night, and the results of a project to study the ocean currents in the North Atlantic ( Gulf Stream ) vs the effects of global warming is darn right frightening!!![:O][:O][:O] They measured the temp of the water and the salinity at various depths and found that over the past several years there has been a MARKED decrease in the salinity in the ocean current. Also , the amount of fresh water flowing into the ocean from several of the worlds largest rivers in Russia, has increased dramatically. Add to this the rapidly increasing melting of the glaciers is causing the salinity to decrease very rapidly. What this means is, the colder water at the Arctic can no longer sink to lower levels, and this will stop what they call "the conveyor". Computer models run by climatologists and meteorologists all confirm that we would receive terrible winters all over the northern hemisphere in 1 out of every 7 winters. Britain would have a terrible time just trying to keep their seaports free from ice. And this could last for hundreds of years before a reversal to more normal conditons again.
And, they don't know when this will actually start because they have nothing to tell them where the "breaking" point is. All they know is, from taking core samples, it HAS happened before to this planet!! Ohh my!!
Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Good day,

You'll never guess what happen today.

I was minding my own business, running trains when out of nowhere the police showed up...

Apparently they had caught a hobo trying to get a free ride. Of course I asked to see proof of this and wouldn't you know it, they actually had ***'s picture sitting on the doorway of cattle car. Here it is, you can see for youself...

Hope you all had a great day
