Evenin all. Just stopped in to say G'night. Did get to spend a little tim on my supply house. Slow he says.

Jeff- I'll bet you muttered a few less than kind remarks about the Parish roads. Oh and I've been down your way a few times (Ft Polk and Alexandria) You have a good public transportation system. Grab a flying bug and hang on! Laugh

Morgan- Good Luck on the scores. Though I agree with Tom. But while the schools still use them, I hope you do well.

Rob-Glad the storm was a dud. And the Rivers looking good.Thumbs Up

Jim- After I typed that, I seemed to recall what you just reminded me of. Sorry about that. I was either napping or I still had meringue in my ears!Laugh Oh and as for haircuts and the prices, If you recall my picture you may have noticed my haircuts are few and far between anymore. I told this one gal friend of ours when she asked if I cut my hair, I drive down the road with the window down, cut the hair that blows in my face and then go home and try to make the right side look as close to the left as I can. (truth) No probs with the perfect wife selling the train stuff. She's a good supporter of my little hobby.Big Smile

Bridge Tom- I don't think we want to know what they talk about when they go "powder"Laugh

Galaxy- Absolutely right! Get it taken care of ASAP. It's not the doctors hands. Unfortunately I have tingling, numbness, pain shoots etc but no Carpal Tunnel. I'm happy though I can still feel.

(yawn) G'night Zzz

In order to keep my position as Master and Supreme Ruler of the House, I don't argue with my wife.

I'm a small town boy. A product of two people from even smaller towns. I don’t talk on topic….. I just talk. Laugh

Now I've officially started a river project, even if it's on the wife's (HO) layout.Smile,Wink, & Grin Decided to build the canyon walls over a wire frame, but wanted to get the riverbed started first. Used the hand saw, drill with wire wheel, and lots of vacuuming. Then mixed up tile adhesive, elmers glue & a reddish colored grout to smear around a bit and help set in the trestle supports. Those supports were leftover N scale I glued together. Also glued down a few natural thin rocks to create some interest. Tons more to add & then paint, etc... At least it's a start.

Healing thoughts for those in need.

Have a good night all.

Good evening, All.  We did our usual train op while working out this afternoon.

Friday PM is an operating session with our local MR club.  It should be great fun.

I agree, I couldn't find a engine shot.  I found some but it was in the yellow/blue paint scheme.   This might be a "false" engine.  BUT...............I might be wrong.

The good thing is, I can make it as RUSTY as I want then Mischief.

Well I am a Southern fan, but I like the look of the Santa Fe.  Now I have another Santa Fe, and I might try that paint scheme on it.   I painted the handrails tonight, and I will add the rust tomorrow.

Thanks for the picture, and I will try it on the other one.

Wink

Hmm. I hope you can improve (bet you can), that engine doesn't photograph well, to me. And it's not the weathering, just the engine.

Yeah, but I used to be a good typer. I know sometimes my right wrist gets sore quicker than other times. I was shocked when I really looked at how my handwriting had changed and was almost not readable anymore. I've noticed it, but never really studied it like I did when at the DR.s office. The important thing now is that we do something about it to solve the problem. I can't wait for it to happen! No more tingly or pins and needles hands. And I won't feel the nerve get twinged every time I cut up my dinner. That is assuming my reg DR. sets me up to do something about it. If anybody is reluctant, I'm gonna press for it! Hopefully Thursday I will find out.

It could be worse. You could have no feeling in your hands at all except for pressure. That's no picnic, believe me.

Galaxy - are you in HO scale for your layout (I forgot)? If so, that room's not a lot of room! Of course, if you're in N scale it's not quite as bad, but not exactly palatial, either. I'm still fiddling with possible ideas for my layout, and really thinking I'll just wait until I get moved to another place first.

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Yeah I have an HO layout, Jim. It's a whole 3.5 feet by 5 feet. A 15R oval inside and interconnected to an  18R oval. In the center is a 3 spur "yard" and a two spur "engine service facility". The room it is in has the furnace jutting into it making it smaller than the other BR, that's why it gets used as a "closet"/store room etc. I forced the issue to have the layout. I DO have N scale stuff I could do, but always wanted HO, so I went for the HO instead.

TMarsh

...Galaxy- Don't feel alone about the typing. That's the way my typing always looks!...

Well, another day gone by. I did not sleep well last night so hopefully I do tonight. Early day tomorrow.

The prayer candle is up for a friend of ours who faces torn rotator cuff surgery on wednesday. He's rather nerve-wracked about it. It is also prayers for anyone else who needs thoughts and prayers!

Just my thoughts, ideas, opinions and experiences. Others may vary.

 HO and N Scale.

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.

And BridgeTom, speaking of 'California Girls' (cue the Beach Boys cut here, Ray...), is that "ultra-HOT choir director" (to quote you...) perhaps the same lady friend that you have mentioned a time or two? You rascal, you! Oh, and CONGRATULATION$ on the re-hiring offer (and grabbing it so quickly!). Nice thing is, you still have some of your weekdays available for w**king on the layout, too. Very nice deal, I'd say. Thumbs Up

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Jim:  She's ultra-hot, but she's 26 and I'm close to 70.  So, no, she's ultra-HOT because of her talent, vitality and verve (the guys at Jesuit just LOVE her) and the fact that we have a pretty neat kinda/sorta 'father-daughter' professional relationship that we've built up over the past few years.  She's involved with a really nice guy (not a member of the Jesuit faculty) and when she's not conducting choirs, she and her guy team/coach soccer for a local Catholic grammar school.

MY lady friend Lois, on the other hand, teaches English at St. Francis girls high school, where she is dearly loved, is into classic movies, concerts, and is the most incredible Scandinavian cook you could ever imagine.  She's the one that nicknamed my Norwegian Forest Cat Remington "Uff-Dah!"   I'm Austro-German, she's Swedish/Norwegian, we're still trying to figure it out, LOL!  As she told me, "I don't understand how we get along so well, after all, you INVADED us in 1940!"   She's a treasure.  And she and Leah, the ultra-hot Jesuit choir director have become GREAT buddies.

Which frankly, scares me a little.  I mean, I wonder what they TALK bout when they hit the 'ladies room' on a double date?Shock

Afternoon/evening, Flo - I'll have a cheesburger (like Jerry likes 'em with the whole garden, ketchup, onions, lettuce, and some cheddar on it), fries, and a RBF, please. Thanks!

Robby P.
Jim, please wether that car.  It hurts my eyes Clown.

My thoughts exactly, Robby (or maybe I've just been seeing all your fine weathering jobs...) Good start on your loco (maybe a little mud/dust, or some minor rust in a few spots...) and on your tanker.Thumbs Up

Rob, sorry for getting you confused with someone else on the river there. I do recall someone asking about using (linoleum?) paste or such for their river/waterway (maybe you, Corey?). Oops Hope your mallard hen gets healed up or taken care of soon. Was she injured in a dinnertime feeding frenzy? Almost sounds like the Diner at dinnertime... I didn't know you were planning one of those on your layouts (duckunders).Whistling ('nuther rim shot please, Lee!)  (I quack me up, sometimes...) Oops, just saw about your weather warnings - better lay low until that twister skips over you. Shock

Todd, sounds like your wife is all salesperson, popping off a price the second someone asked about the bicycle - way to go! Thumbs Up Better make sure you have a lock on the train room door, y'know, so she doesn't get going and be unable to stop selling...Smile,Wink, & Grin Yeah, nothing like a cold, wet dog nose to wake a person up from a good nap, is there?Shock On the Calif. gal, that was a few weeks ago that she decided it wasn't her thing to have a long-distance relationship. I think you might've been napping after eating all the pies you could catch that one afternoon, maybe.Zzz

And BridgeTom, speaking of 'California Girls' (cue the Beach Boys cut here, Ray...), is that "ultra-HOT choir director" (to quote you...) perhaps the same lady friend that you have mentioned a time or two? Lee, thanks for that suggestion (which I will take), and another guy from the WPF topic PM'ed me that Microscale has some - including generic MOW markings/data decals, as well as ATSF, SP, UP, or D&RGW ones - in case I want to claim that one of those is where the CAW bought their MOW gear. I'll go check Champ's website next and see what they have - I have ordered Champ decals before, and have been pleased with their service.

Jeff, that covered hopper looks like it must've been splattered by some passing freight cars on an adjoining track...Good job! Hope you don't get nearly as nasty of a storm as they're guessing. (Nor Rob, nor Ryan, nor *any* of our Southeastern Diners). I don't blame you for not wanting to pay 'salon' prices for a plain ol' haircut (ours here are $12 from the barber I've gone to whenever I lived in the Cape G. area - and he's been here about 35-40 years, I think).

Ray , how are things with the sister's cat coming along? No injuries incurred yet, have you? And when is she supposed to be coming back (not that you'd be counting the days or anything...)Smile,Wink, & Grin

Eric, vent away. In fact, let me buy you a beverage of your choice and let's talk about the ladies, "young'un" (since I have about 10 years lead on you...). I saw an article on a Christian singles section of a website about "Where have all the single Christian men gone?" and was thinking the counterpart to it myself ("Where have all the single Christian women - over the age of 50 - gone?"). Well, I guess I'd better stop ranting myself before we get the married guys joining us (and their wives come after us for stirring them up...)Shock

I got the dining room table (aka 'MRR w**kbench') organized - have about everything on there in 7 groups by topic. Next, to weed out the file cabinet drawers so I can actually put papers away in it. Then I can get to weathering that shiny new boxcar (eh, Robby?).

F-unit, Sign - Welcome back into the Diner. From the sounds of it, you must work the Oh-my-goodness-it's-early shift for your job. Shock

Morgan, hope you slammed your SAT's. Yeah!! Bummer about "The Road [that shoulda been] Not Taken"...Blindfold

Jerry, I'd agree with whichever Diner suggested to have them see if they can slide the computer a bit closer to you so you can use it. Worth a shot, anyway.

Inch, I'll be forwarding that list along to some former college classmates - funny one! Laugh

Guess I'll polish off my (what would it be? "Linner"? Lunch/dinner?) meal. Still want to see what other mischief I can get into at home - maybe trim some of the folders in the file cabinet, but then again, I might see about assembling another freight car...Letsee...

Blessings and prayers and a safe night for you all,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Coffee in a  SOUTHERN  mug, please.

***Robby, I'll second Garry's suggestion.Cool

That storm was a complete DUD. Not that I'm complaining, but how could the weather service be so far off on a prediction. One thunder clap as it came in, barely a drizzle, no wind at all, and a second thunder clap as it left the area. It's like our valley has an invisible protective dome over it.

Evening all:

Still RainyCal out here, supposed to break up sometime tomorrow and heat up.  We have flash flood warnings in the mountains, so we got dumped on pretty well.  Sacramento set a new record for rainfall for the first two days of May (yah, whoopie! Tongue).   At least it will help fill up the reservoirs around here, but we're still looking at a really BAD forest fire season this summer because of the timing of the weather.

Well, the Grandparent''s Day Mass went well over at Jesuit, Leah had 12 freshmen from her period 4 Beginning choir, and they belted out like the little pros they already are.  They really filled the room with sound--it was wonderful accompanying them.  We've had a Swine Flu scare out here in a couple of the Catholic schools, so nobody hugged each other during the Peace, and we didn't hold hands during the Lord's Prayer, but other than that, it went very smoothly.   After, the Priest came up to me and grinned and said, "I understand you're going to jump back in to all of this here again, next semester."  Word has spread, LOL!

Morgan:  Hope you aced the SAT's.  You probably don't want to hear this after all of your study and sweat, but out here in California, the UC system is seriously considering phasing out the SAT's as entrance reqirements into their campuses, as they feel that it tests the students to the 'test' and not so much the 'subject.'  Evidently they're going to begin to base their entrance requirements more on collective GPA and subject knowledge.

I'll tell you, as a teacher, I'm for one, very happy to see this taking place.  I know that a number of private universities have already begun relegating SAT scores to a minor position when considering applicants, and looking more at their cumulative GPA's and other factors.   Hopefully the time will come around again where a student is admitted on their own qualifications and not how they 'test' the 'test'.

But I hope you aced the darned thing anyway, by golly!

Jim:  Loved your WPF photo.  I tagged it on that forum.  Nice work, by gar.

Jeff:  And I thought the roads were bad out HERE!  Shock  Hope the weather improves very soon so you can get to the car.  Whew!

Well, got a kinda/sorta Major Shock the past couple of days.  A buddy of mine on the forum wanted to buy one of my BLI dual-mode steamers, and I quoted him a price that I thought was pretty fair, only to find out that a lot of the Paragon BLI models I originally bought some years back (with the QSI sound) and don't run anymore, have been re-produced in something called the "Blue Line" at about HALF the price I originally paid for them.   So here I sit with about 6 locos I don't run anymore and are in pristine shape, and in order to get rid of them, I would darn near have to DONATE them, LOL!

Well, we'll see.  I'm doing some serious thinking.  Besides, they're just taking up space in the display case (and none of them are railroads that I model, anyway).  I guess I AM an Old Fart, I'm used to brass that kinda/sorta holds its value.

Ah well-----Whistling

Best to all, prayers to those in need.

In the state I live in you can't even get food stamps if you own a car. When I was laid off I couldn,t even think of buying a athearn blue box kit. Time have changed, I guess.

In this state many recipients live in rural areas where there's no public transportation. A car is also required for a job search for the same reason. Just to get to the city limits is a ten minute drive, fifteen minutes to the nearest grocery store to say nothing of getting to Wal-Mart.

Good news is: Got started on the wife's river bottom, carving/sanding foam and then covering it with the same mix I used for her roads, except used a reddish colored tiel grout in place of charcoal.

The bad news is: A serious cell with a tornado in it is heading directly for us as I type. Saw a photo of it on the weather channel. Looks like about 20 to 30 minutes away, so cross your fingers for us. Tornado sirens already started ahead of the storm. Already got the old blind mare up in the barn. Going to drain some more water from the tank here at the house and then get the camera ready.

See Ya...(I hope) Cowboy Rob

Also, for Lee (or anyone else fond of work trains, here's the CAW work train (the left two cars acquired at a train show, the third from left used some parts from one of those old MDC 3-in-1 kits (anyone recall those?), and the rightmost one (boxcar) is an Athearn kit that I repainted (wasn't happy with the paint job that came with it originally). I wouldn't mind re-doing the work train in a light grey color, but I don't know where to get some work train decals to replace the ones on the two leftmost cars. Lee, you or anyone know of someone who makes work-train decals?

JimRCGMO

And Morgan, fill us in on how your SAT felt - I say 'felt', because they never get the results back very quickly at all, unless they've improved considerably since I took the SAT.  When I took my SAT eons ago (or any other standardized test)... I never knew how I did. Sometimes I'd think I really flubbed it, only to find out I did well; other times I'd think I had blown it away (but the test results weren't as good as I thought - though still tolerable). Most of the time, I do well on standardized tests (suppose I'm a good guesser) - so hopefully, you'll do like that, Morgan. Thumbs Up

Jim:Check PMs. Well, wait a bit, I have to write the thing first...

SAT front: I'll get the scores sometime in June, maybe. They don't want us saying anything about the test, lest I give away the answers  I think I did well. Based on the PSAT, which you add a zero to the end for an estimate of the SAT, I feel about right. Skipped some. Actually, Guessing are bad on the SAT. They only score the ones you answer, getting 1 pt for right and -1/4 for wrong (Except for the non-multiple choice MAth). The ones you skip don't accumulate to a higher score, but won;t drop you, either. Actually, what sucked was that upon leaving, I missed a turn in Brownsbug IN, and 45 minute later fo backroads, ended up in Whitestown IN. The wrong way. Things had a habit of looking like they'd go the right way, then just out of sifght drop down a hill and veer off perpendicularly, wind you around a few times, and rp you in the middle of nowhere. Occasionally within a stone's throw of a major highwy, just not with an on-ramp for said highway. My internal compass was trying to fly away it was spinning so fast. Unfotunately, the temper was doing an afterburner. I hope I do't have to do the pill thing later in life....

Tom: Gongrats on the pay.

Jeff: Sorry about the car

Jerry: Get well soon.

Went to town this morning to get more groceries. On the way I hit a bump in the road, you know, one of those thing where it looks like a tree is trying to push it's way through. Anyway it went right down the right side of the underside of my car. I hoped it hadn't done any damage. Darn! I couldn't see the thing for all the rain. When I got into town I discovered that my power steering had gone away. Well, no power steering and hitting bump in road = damage. Nothing I could do with it pouring down rain so I had to top up the reservour and continue on as best I could. Got to Wal-Mart and got the groceries I needed. I refilled the reservour and returned home. After the rain stopped for a while this afternoon I refilled the reservour again then started the car. Looking underneath I can see where it's coming from. I just can't get at it. After the nearest ditch dries out I should be able to work on it. A ditch isn't a pit but it's the next best thing. Tomorrow the parish is getting a call about this. They're supposed to be responsible for any damage done to a vehicle by road conditions such as this and it's not like this thing popped up overnight.

Guess I owe for this page

Robby- Thumbs Up

Galaxy- Don't feel alone about the typing. That's the way my typing always looks! Also that is why it takes me so long to type something. Well not to type it, but to correct it. Mostly anyway. (Tuff to proofread your own stuff right after you write it. Right Teachers?) Not only do I make errors as you described, I also get these twitches that cause unwanted letters, spaces etc throughout.Laugh Usually I catch them as it happens but it still takes time.

Ooo. Now I smell bread baking. I'm definately going to stick upstairs. I hope she needs something tested.Big Smile

Whew, I need a nap. JUST got finished cleanig up from garage sale and general clean up. Most of the day was spent driving back and forth because everytime we rounded a corner in the house, it seemed, there was something that needed taken to the township garage. Oh well at least it's gone and the car can get in the garage.

Tom Wright- I quit carrying a camera years ago. Back before the digital craze. I would take pictures and then develop and look at them then put them in an album and then......? I figured it was a waste of money. Besides, I really like walking with nothing in my hand but my wifes.Blush

Well guess I'll be hittin' the layout room. That needs some cleaning now that I can see the floor! (sniff, sniff) Oh what do I smell? Bacon and onions and... Guess Brenda's makin' dinner. Maybe I'll stay upstairs and nap for a bit first.Dinner

WELL!

I tried all weekend to get on this forum and could not get in. The website, yeah, but not the forums! And NO, I got NO OOPS!. I mighta been happy with an OOPS!, at least I'd have known it was the site's problem.

Tom, congrats on the job! It is really nice to have such options.

Robby P. congrats on "getting rid" of the relatives, I guess. Relatives can be so nice when they are far away, but a PITA when close and staying with you.

Jeffrey, I suffer allergies on top of my severe asthma almost all year long. Spring is pollen...{lilacs here are about to bloom now -horrible to me}....fall is the molds and mildews as leaves fall and mold and mildew in damp weather. Also, humidity, whether cold or hot out also makes it very hard to breathe. I hear ya on not being able to breathe and walk....our mailbox is about a 10th of a mile away on flat paved road. I can get out of breath just walking to/from the mailbox.

I don't really have much to say, I guess now that I fianlly got on here. Everything I had to say evaporated.

I know I already said it is confirmed I have carpal tunnel. I have figured out that is why my typing is now so awful {It may not show up here because I carefully proofread what I type regardless of how the word comes out when I type it}. The right hand can not keep up with the left hand, cause it is worse than the left hand. SO I always type the word "the" as "teh"- the left hand gets the "t" and "e" signal before the right hand gets teh "h" signal- see what I mean...{I left that italics "the" as the incorrect way I always manage}. I am only on the computer about an hour a day. I thought maybe I was getting dyslexic in my typing, but I see now it's how the two hands/fingers getting their signals messed up or not in sync.I also noticed as I filled out paperwork for the neurologist that my written scrawl is just that now...a written scrawl. I used to do calligraphy so I can write well, but not anymore with as bad as my hands are getting. I hope we can get teh surgery to correct this problem soon.

Soon hope to be clearing out the layout/junk/storage room. Hafta clean off the front porch first. Jeffrey, when I heard you talk of space limitations the other day, I felt lucky. We have a 3br/1ba 14x65 {palace compared to yours I guess} that we lovingly call home. The room the layout is in is about 9x9, but has other stuff in it. The other room is the computer room/guest room so I can't build in there, theres enough in it as well, but it has more space. Now if we could just get a piece of land and get it out of this park....

Well, I have taken up enough of space and time for now.

Have a great evening guys {and gals}.

Since its Sunday, the wife takes over the TV with the "soaps".   I normally spend Sunday afternoons in the basement.

I weathered up some cars, and tried to work on the one engine I got.  Well with it being "life like", its pretty much JUNK.  Now the dummy engine, well its just fine.  I weathered it up, and I still gotta add some more "weathering" to it.  What you see isn't the finished engine.

I also did a "model power" tanker.  Not the best details, but I did a quick weathering job to it.  I've been needing a tanker.

Oh, and I added....................Well seems like a sleep/meeting happening (Smokey, Bandit, and Hannibal).

Good afternoon... Chloe? a tall, COLD lemonade please...

Very sunny, very warm here. Primary mower is still in the shop, so finally went and attempted resuscitation of the "reserve mower," also known as "the FIL special" since FIL donated it to us last year. What a cold-blooded, rough-running rattle-clatter unit. The mower, not the FIL...though he does have his "moments" that come close to earning him a "trip to the moon."

It could probably...no, it definitely needs a good tune-up. I got the back half of the lot mowed...might do the front/side later today, might do it tommorrow...might just go rent a goat.

Have a good/safe rest of the day...

Afternoon,  Chloe, a decaf and a slice of blueberry pie please.  Rain next 4 days.... trying to get house cleaned up.

Jim - I know the feeling with the women.  I'm either too old (52) or not mature enough(!,?)  Kind of given up.

Busy morning (hoped for a quiet day), two FA calls chewed up 2.5 hours of my day. May sound a bit rude, but during the week I'm at work and am one of 2 members who answer calls from 5am-7pm.  2 others answer from 7pm- 6am.  Granted it's volunteer, but even on weekends it's the same 2-4 folks that show up out of 15 'active' members.  We lost one member, apparently their job (not local) paid a bonus for "VOLUNTEER" work.  Claimed they made over 40% of calls for the town.  This year the Co. sent a letter to verify participation, 3% doesn't count in the Co's mind, mine either.  Member was upset that we didn't "help me out" and quit.  Apparently they got a nice $ for it too.

Done venting..... Thank You for listening.

No MRR this weekend...again

Good afternoon folks.

Tom, you sound so excited that I can't help but be happy for you!  I'm sure they're just as happy to have you back.

I bowled like a champ last night. We had sixteen people bowling, it was quite the sight!  You know you have some very skilled 'athletes' when your goal is to break 100!

I painted the riverbed today. My paint color didn't work out the way I wanted, so I covered it in WS fine dark brown ballast. This was leftover from the last layout. The river bed is already bumpy form the sculptamold, so the the texture looks kind of nice. I outlined the banks and the piers in fine brown talus. I noticed that the talus is large ballast. That's okay, the size in the bag varies form large to fine. This is a great example of things going completely different than I planned. The end results won't be known until everything dries, but I think I'll be happy with the results. I may need to continue with some ground foam for the hillside just to get it covered. How exciting!

Well, this has been a great day off. Usually Tuesdays are better, but the wife is napping right now. That makes for another 'me' day!

Have a great day!

Afternoon everybody,

It was kind of a cool, rainy morning here in Pittsburgh today, so the wife and I stopped to get some coffee and then went down to one of my favorite places to watch Norfolk Southern. Stayed about an hour and caught one intermodal and one mixed freight headed towards Conway Yard. A year ago, we probably would have seen between four to six trains in the same time period.

The Pittsburgh Marathon was held this morning, so I didn't bother going to one of my other locations on the other side of the city to catch the Amtrak and the Allegheny Valley Railroad. Too many streets closed.

I usually take some photos when out and about like this, but didn't bother today because of the weather. It turned out to be kind of nice to just sit back and be able to pay closer attention to the mix of cars without messing about with the camera.
