I've been working on the new arrivals. Neither unit had end rails installed so I took care of that. The end rails were packed with them.

GE U30C. The end rails are from a U33C.

EMD SD24. The end rails didn't want to stay on and I finally hit them with some CA.

They're in line for the installation of Digitrax DZ125 decoders.

Hey all, I ain't been in here in a while. Guess I have some catching up to do.

I have an update on my dog. He seemed like it was just a virus from a tick since he started getting better shortly after putting him on antibiotics and steriods (his energy increased, he eats and drinks like normal, and his weight started going back up). They did some tests based on a sample from one of his lymph nodes, and the news isn't good. Turns out it's the worst-case scenario. He has cancer, lymphosarcoma to be exact. If it was isolated to one area, it would be treatable but it's everywhere. The doctors only give him a few weeks to live, maybe a couple of months if we put him on kemo.Sad We are electing to put him down rather than put him on kemo. That's really all I have to say for now.

Vincent

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Good evening to all, I hope everyone had a great day. Still very cloudy and misty foggy here, we may see the sun for a while tomorrow afternoon before another 0.75 to 1.50 inches of rain hit the area. Everything is as green as can be, and grass has been cut for the 1st time this season as of two days ago.

Tomorrow we head west to the LHS, and then to the Steaming Tender ( Former Palmer, Ma train station)  for lunch. I hope I can snag a few good deals.Smile

BARRY: Cases of S-R pies? Have you met DUKE??? You will have to fight him off for those pies, at least they are leaving JERRY's Pecan pies alone now that S-R is in season.

GARRY: Look !!!! You and DUKE have more competition for S-R pies !! Better get to the Diner early, it's a good thing that JEFF doesn't eat those pies.

I see that everyone is healthy in the Diner, so I guess no one has been kissing Swine lately.Wink

Just a quick stop for a slice of apple pie and a cupa regular.  Waiting to see if the pics we've been trying to send to Ca all day finally went through. I've heard of slow easily exceeded systems, but this guy must use Pony Express. SoapBox.  Nice additions Jeff - to patch or repaint?

RT - I'll check the N spares box soon as I find it. Pretty sure we don't have any geep bits but the couplers sound familiar.

Corey - ground foam can be added to nearly anything to make it look better. Just add hair spray or mist on some contact cement. The other stuff I found brilliant was the Scenic Express leaf stuff (think it's the same as what Noch sells)

Time to check if the mail came back yet again. CUL, J.R.

I either buy another car or 2 and fool with them or just have to have that building on ebay .... which changes everything . Oh well ... may wait until the darn rain stops ... do all my work out in a building I built and it's too darn damp and rains about 6 out of 7 days here .

Got my two new (new to me) Atlas locos today.

Atlas EMD SD24

Atlas GE U30C

I'm not a GE fan but I guess it won't hurt to have one around. Both units need a little work and run very well though the GE growls a bit in the curves.

Coffee in a SantaFe mug and leave the pot on the table, please. Oh, and I'll put in an order for some Rhubarb Pie as soon as Todd or Lee bring some into the Diner.Dinner

***Jerry, are you able to run any trains while healing?

***Corey, how about some progress pics?

***Jeffrey, I really like what you do with lighting around your layout. When I think of all this kind of detailing stuff ahead for the wife and I (or should I say "for me to do"), it almost starts to feel overwhelming. Still, you show us just how much a few well placed lights add to the realism.

Got started on the wife's river canyon. Used old fence wire for the framework. Then glued a few sections of that scrap foam to it. Still trying to work out what order to do everything in. Is the last thing usually pouring the river (glaze material stuff) after everything else is detailed and finished? Still just winging it here.

GMTRacing

RT- good luck with the reassembly. If need be I can look in the spare parts boxes for missing bits. Do you have any idea what type the couplers are?

Well the couplers are the old style that came with your cheap sets. ( this is out of an old life like set) what i'm missing is the left hand rail for a GP7/9 ( thats looking at the engine with the short nose facing you) and I had coupler in upside down so redid that but still flops from side to side so don't know if its the coupler or the piece that holds it in.

I have it back together and running ( I have a 3' section of flex track to run it on) I did win a bid for $41.00 + 10.00 shipping on a n scale train set by bachmann the ole timer set he did say he likes the old steamer witht he popcorn popper stack so I went after that. May have to tell him from now on we need to keep the engines at least in a drawer when not running them.

I think I need to get one of those lighted magnfied things that you hook to your dest lol

Well I went train hunting, and saw NOTHING.   Did get to see how high the river has gotten.  Flood levels are 28ft, and the river is 31ft.  So its pretty high.

Here is some shots of the lights I put in.  I did it the cheap way.  Took the old head light out of broken engines, and used them.  The picture might seem real bright, but its not that bright.  I put two more lights over my warehouse dock, but those will be  done tomorrow.

Corey - all critiqueing here is gentle, the other kind is non-productive and creates bad feelings.  You know we are here for fun... SO SHOW US SOME PICS WHEN YOU CAN!!! WE WANT TO SEE THEM!!  Besides some of us may get some ideas from your work for our own layouts (if we ever get them going)

Good morning folks.

I am scattering ground foam with a vengeance today.  I'm afraid that I'm not getting enough variation in my color, but the other colors available are all wrong.  I think I'll just have to keep going and hope it turns out okay.  I can't help thinking that I may regret not mixing it up a little more.  Oh well, it looks one hundred times better than my first layout!  I would post a picture for help, but my wife is out of town with the camera.  Maybe tomorrow I can post a picture for some gentle critiquing.Shy

A question for you experienced modelers.  Have you ever successfully used lichen covered with foam to add variation to your vegetation?  I have some lichen from the last layout that I hadn't planned to use, but it would give me some height and texture.  Somehow I think that just clumps of foam won't cut it.  I also need to find a good source for grass other than the horse hair form WS.  Any suggestions?  Any and all suggestions are welcome.

I'm waiting for my glue and paint to dry, so I'm off to mow my Grandmother's yard.

Have a great day!

Well I guess the operartion was a sucess as the engine runs not sure if its like it was as it doesn't sound right in reverse but don't need to go backwards to often lol. So I guess I'm a doctor in n scale also but don't want to get to confident as there to small for these old tired eyes

Where's Jeff this morning?

Flaky cable signal has been offline.

Good morning.

It's 70 and cloudy. The high should be around the mid 80's and it will be partly cloudy.

Had a train running on the outer main line yesterday for a while to track test some new freight cars and make a short video. Maybe today if I get time I'll dust off the inner main line and have the both running for a bit. Cut my sister's yard yesterday the worked on her mower for a bit. It definitely needs a new battery. The one in it won't hold enough power to give a flea a warm glow. She just had the gas tank and the tie rod ends replaced as all the afore mentioned items were broken. It still doesn't have a chute deflector though.

Today  High: 88    Mostly cloudy in the morning...then partly cloudy with a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs in the upper 80s. South winds 5 to 10 mph.

Tonight  Low: 72    Partly cloudy. Lows in the lower 70s. South winds 5 to 10 mph.

Mornin' everyone!

Chloe I'll have the #2 special, eggs over easy, bacon, big plie of homefries, and sourdough toast.  And!  Coffee, dark roast, in a FGLK Mug.

Well I went to see the vampire this morning.  Got there only 3 other people in the waiting room.  Turned out to be a 45 minute wait.  By the time I got called there were no seats left in the waiting room and several people had taken a look at the crowd and said, "I'll be back later".  Once I was called, I was in and out in about 2 minutes.  So. I headed out for the local Cafe for breakfast.  (Had what I ordered above....) Got to be bad once in a while!

Have to head out to school to start setting up mics soon.  just thought I would pop in for a minute and find out what everyone is up to.  So where is Jeff this morning?  Fixing his car?

Ray Seneca Lake, Ontario, and Western R.R. (S.L.O.&W.) in HO

We'll get there sooner or later!

Good morning all,
Jim, the idea was to run 2 trains while using the third line for local switching.  It is also why my sections are 4 feet long and 3 feet deep, the 3 mains consume about 12” of space along the back edge of the layout. Each main is on 2.5” centers with 41”, 38.5”, and 36” DIA curves and there is approx 65FT of track to each main.
Rhubarb, I need to pick some this weekend as well.  I’m going to try and bake some rhubarb and black raspberry pies this year. Lee

Mornin folks, Waffles and coffee please, Thank you.

Nothing in the way of train stuff yesterday, today's not looking good either. Looking out the window this morning I said, "hmm, yard needs mowed already." Grumpy

Popped in and out yesterday to see if the videos that Robby and Jeff made would play yet. Every time I clicked on the things they just got bigger but wouldn't play. I was thinking "durned IE8". BUT this morning I suddenly realized I've been clicking on the bar on top instead of the picture/video Dunce so, so far no probs with IE8 And... Great videos guys!

Speaking of Rhubarb. With the rain and the cool but warm weather the plants are looking Great, I should pick some today. Oh, excuse me while wipe the drool from my mouth.

And Robby, "what list?" works every time? LOL. Aaaah young Weedhopper. She just humors you (us). THAT'S the kind of stuff they talk about in the bathroom!!! "Guess what Bumblehead (or whatever your wife calls you) tried to pull today........" LaughLaugh

Good morning..

Dick, if you are taking orders for S/R pies, about two dozen should get me started, and then......... what...me?....greedy?....nah.....just like S/R pies........

JR..... Sorry to learn the long, long house rebulid is still taking place. I recall your great photos of your layout, and I am looking forward to seeing more again some day.

My little problem is nothing like JR's but I still have my situation with the screwed up paper backdrops. I still am getting water in the dehumidifier, and I hope when I am done doing that, the backdrops will look more like normal.

Cheers everyone.

Well I'm glad y'all liked my video.  I will try to do another one later this week.

Not to much planned today.  Maybe weather up a CSX boxcar I got.  Might put back the cars in the video, so that will take some time.  Gotta get them back into the right spots Captain .

Other than that, maybe do some train hunting.  Just heard NS come by.

Good Morning All,

A regular and a blueberry donut please Zoe.  It's about 50 with intermittent showers and looks to stay that way all day or all week depending on how long the pattern stalls over us. Thanks for the kind words about the house. Yes it has been a slog, but we are making progress and have a real good contractor now who's a fuss budget and real keen to get the job done. I'm comfortable this time it'll be done right.

RT- good luck with the reassembly. If need be I can look in the spare parts boxes for missing bits. Do you have any idea what type the couplers are?

I did get a call from the NLHS that the custom painted New Haven locos I have been waiting for are done so a trip to Branford is in order soon. Just have to fit it in with some other errands and I'm there. Well, reality intrudes and I need to get out in the shop. Y'all take care.   J.R.

Good evening from rainy New England. Heavy rains due tomorrow, so finally we get to work on the layout and take a break from the outside work.

TODD: yes, we are talking about Rhubarb and Cloe wants me to get enough to bake 3 S-R pies, one for just DUKE alone mind you!! HOOPLE hates pie, so we don't have to worry about him raiding the cabinet.

RAY: A boxcare full of cases from Bully Hill will be just fine, and stop teasing those cats, I can hear them hissing all the way east here to central MA. LOL

J.R.: I'm happy to hear that some real progress is being made on the home project, you would think with all the contractors out of work that they would be doing double time to complete the job.

Grilled Salmon with veggies for a late night snack and a Blueberry smoothie for dessert, please.

***J.R., that rebuild is taking a mighty long time. I can't believe the hastle it has been for you there. Hope the finish line is in sight soon.

***RT...OUCH! Sure hope it goes back together well for you.

I got a little more done on the wife's river canyon. Added a few more rocks to the bed, cut & bent some old fence wire to make a simple mountain frame, and even glued a few pieces of foam to the wire and it lloks like it will work out ok. (remember that pickup truck load of leftover blown insulation I picked upSmile) At some point I'll need to decide how much canyon (foam) I want "in place" while still leaving enough space to work on the river. Sure isn't the most "practical" terrain I threw together.DunceLaugh

Have to stay up another half hour to drain the tank here at the house. Lots more rain coming tonight. Very tired. Catch y'all tomorrow. Cowboy Rob

PC, cox47 or any of you other n scalers I have given an life like GP-9 B&O engine to a Veteran at the V.A. here that I work at and all was good till some one bumped the table it was on. Its about 3 1/2' off the floor yes you know what happened any way its now in about 20 pieces but nothin looks broke broke other than the grab rails now my question is is there anybody out there that would concider putting this back together?

I might try myself tomorrow but man are these pieces small I'm us to O gauge where if it falls at least normaly it stays pretty much together other than maybe a piece breaking from the shell or the truck but normally its still will run somewhat. lol

Well I stopped in the middle of this post and played with it and I think I got it all back together except it seems the front coupler is missing something or 2 as it lays limped and low and doesn't have spring to spring back. also as stated now missing hand rails ( whole one side) ( as you face the short nose of the engine its the whole left side) but thats all minor next is to dig out my dc transformer and see if it works after all that. well getting this far I feel good about it. as I had the front truck in pieces ( 3 axles and wheels 2 with gears) the rectangler piece that has the side of the trucks molded into it completely off infact the whole engine frame was loose and coming off. well this is a major improvement lol.

Well all hows everything else going I feel great after that. Hope all is doing fine seeing the last I was in was back on page 1 lol.

will talk to you all later need to go pay for a auction win that I got today ( another n scale set for this guy )
