Mornin folks, Waffles and coffee please, Thank you.
Worked a bit on the Supply House, soon to be either the slaughter house or food related thing. Not quite sure yet. Suppose to rain this afternoon so I might try to mow this morning after the rest of the world gets up. Then hopefully finish the walls at the church.
Vincent- I'm sorry to hear about your little buddy. I have an extremely soft spot when it comes to dogs. Hearing your news got me a bit choked up, and after seeing his picture a tear was brought up. It sounds silly I know, but at times like this I think of my little baby also. Especially since she is a Lab also. Like I said there is something about dogs.. I know you are doing the right thing by not letting him suffer. It is the best for him. You both are in my thoughts and prayers.
Corey- Be gentle? Be gentle on what? I think it looks great. You've already mentioned what I see. As far as the trees go, I wouldn't knock myself out making it exactly proto. I mean like you said 2 feet. A fair representation is all you can do and By Dingys' That's exactly what you've got going.
Jim- You are in my prayers also. The comfort you need and the answers you want, will come too you soon I am sure. I don't know you well, other than here, but based on reading your conversations and hearing what other people say, you are a kind, intelligent, hard working, God fearing man. Nothing in there to be ashamed of and everything to hold your head up for. Everyone has a threshold. I find it hard to believe that a business could not forgive a moment for an employee like you. I do understand however, all too well the kinds of "supervisors" out there and their "bruised ego" situations. Remember, you have a choice to make first thing in the morning when you wake up. That is what kind of day I choose to have. Always say "I choose to have a good day". You'd be surprised at how much better the good things seem and what a bite out of the not so good stuff it takes. At least if things don't go as well as you'd like, you are not predisposed to making it worse with the attitude that it‘s going to be a bad day. That seems to make nothing go right. Life's too short to not have good days even when it's raining. "Try it. You‘ll like it". (oh, wasn't that an old advertising slogan for something years ago? This will haunt me for a while)
Tom (bridge)- Yeah that 5th of May thing goes on here too. I also knew what it was to an extent. I knew it was the day they got rid of the French, but not the details. And I knew (removed the word "that" from this point) it didn't last. I guess they were so drunk they forgot the French came back. Taquila!
Robby- The steak would have been soggy at my house. I would have cried through the whole thing.
Well best get a move on.
Have a Great Day! And that means ALL of you Jim!

Good morning. It's 73 and sunny. The high will be in the upper 80's and there's a chance of thunderstorms. Yesterday was relatively uneventful. I tore down, inspected and reassembled both the SD24 and the U30C and applied the end handrails to each unit. The SD24 was a snap except that the endrails didn't want to stay attached. A little super glue took care of that. The U30C was a horse of a different color. The endrails supplied with were for U33C, identical to those needed but having larger tabs. This required that the holes be drilled out. I don't have a pin vise so I had to use the Dremel on low speed to do the job. After that was done and a little super glue gel added the endrails were mounted into place. I really don't like the hand rails that are being made now. What ever happened to the nearly unbreakable ones Atlas used to have. These things they have now bend and stretch all over and sit every way but the way they're supposed to and forget about straightening one after it gets bent. It just goes right back to the bent position. Good morning folks.
I've been working on my trestle like there's no tomorrow. This is my absolute favorite part of building a layout. At least, it was on my first one! That was a 4x8 that had little to no thought put into it. This one actually has a prototype, so it makes it easier and harder at the same time. I just have to mimic what I see instead on making it up on the fly. I wonder if God had this much fun on the day he made vegetation?
Thanks for the compliments on the bridges. I know I'm just fishing for compliments by posting them on here, but I really do want the negative as well. Does anyone see anything that is completely wrong with the images? I'm not too sure how to go about planting the trees. In the prototype, the trees darn near cloak the train until just before it crosses the trestle. My hillside is a little too steep to plant trees, but I had to do that in order to fit this in a two foot depth. I think I may end up using more of the smaller armatures from Scenic Express for the steepest parts. We'll see, I'm probably over thinking this.
Jim, I was told a long time ago that my mouth would get me in trouble some day. It has come true on many occasions. Fortunately, I have an understanding boss that realizes that I'm right a good portion of the time. I just get a a little punchy if I don't get my way. I hope things go well for you. They are probably looking for a reason to let somebody go. Don't give them any more reasons!
I have a terrible short term memory, so I'm sorry for not commenting on more of the posts. I don't know how some of you do it.
I have a short day at work, so I may get more modeling done tonight. Have a great day everyone!
Robby P.Jeff how many engines is that for you now? Also do you keep theones your not using in a case or something?
Goooooooooood morning. Another cool morning, and kinda overcast.
Yesterday I did some switching, and installed some lights. Probably work on that some more today (lights).
Jim I am with everybody else. Hope it blows over. Its like....The hard/honest...workers/people get it the roughest. Maybe you can take a few days off? If my wife is having a rough day or so, I try to get her to take a day off. Kinda lets the storm blow over.
Vincent I had to put a dog to sleep several years ago. It was VERY hard to do. Gave him a steak dinner, and alittle while later on to the vets. I brought him back home to the grave I dug. Thats someting I won't forget, and its been several years now.
Jeff how many engines is that for you now? Also do you keep theones your not using in a case or something?
Galaxy not yet. Its been raining (flooding), and I just haven't made it down to try to meet them.
Well I have to go to the bank and Wal Mart. We tried the Casino again last night and won $75. We took $60, and added the $75. So.......$135 isn't to bad. At least we got our money and some.
Everybody have a good day, and I will stop in for lunch.
"Rust, whats not to love?"
Hi guys!
Boy, this diner is getting real popular! GO away for a day and several pages added! They like to cut it off after about 75 pages and we are already at 25! It's great, but we may have to add on to the diner!
I only skim-read all there was there, so I'm sorry to anyone I should have commented back to, and don't here.
Thanks for all the concerns expressed over my carpal tunnel issues. I hope to find out thursday I hope what the next step I take is. The interesting thing is since he did the electrical tests on my arms, my right hand actually feels better I think. Then again, there are times it feels worse than others, so it could just be a better feeling spell.
The van is in the shop (again). The a/c heat blower motor went and now there is a shimmy when braking on the drivers side. I hope it's just a tire balance problem. As much as I have put into it recently I coulda bought something newer. Just never had the money all at once to do it and I HATE car payments. Hard to do payments on a disability monthly check. If it costs too much more, I may just look into a newer one. But for now, pop-pop (me to the cats) luvs his caravan! I keep telling it that, but it keeps testing me!
UGH!! DOUBLE UGH!! The lilacs here are starting to bloom! Allergies galore. We can't open the windows for cool air due to the durned lilacs. We have to use the a/c to keep the lilacs out of the house!
I hope Jeffrey is feeling mighty good, and his feets are doing ok. Did you get your steering fixed on your car?
Robby P. Did you get the cab ride on the switching duties yet?
Corey thems thar some mighty fine looking bridges ya got thar! Looks just like the real things! I have a tiny HO layout and have two bridges on it, but they don't belong there, and when I modify (IF I do) the layout I will have to scrap them.
Somebody asked for a prayer candle, and the prayer candle will be lit for those in need. Our friend is going in for rotator cuf surgery tomorrow.
Another friend stopped by yesterday and boy did we have some fun! We "played" trains, once I found a way to and found the layout. He has a big rambling victorian house he wants to get into trains as well, if he can get it past the CFO of his family. He has space. With gonna be two in college, he's thinking not a large budget. It's kinda all new to him, so he's a clean slate and sponge. Like me, Not too electrically inclined so I have suggested the lesser electrical work and DCC. Of course I'm prejudiced as I happen to think DCC is great- at least for my small layout. He wants to go with me to the wholesaletrains.com store the next time I go. It doesn't help that I have zero $$ right now for train stuff. And boy, I'm sure I could spend his $$$ alright...LOL.
Well, that's about it for now I guess.....
Keep up good work guys and have a smashingly great day ok!

Good Morning All,
Just a regular to go please - late start after a late night last night (museum and the other diner after) and it's already starting in the shop.
Vincent - sorry to hear about your dog. Keep us posted and we'll keep you in our prayers.
Jim - That's a tough deal. I've never been politically correct either and had my lumps for it as well. Hope it blows over and they just see the good work you do as more important.
Gotta run - lots to do, I'll review last nights' posts later - looks like some interesting pics there. J.R.
Good Morning peoples!!
Weather here is still nice and sunny--we're supposedly going to have a bit of rain again up here for the next few days---of course some areas around here had so much of the stuff the farmers around here are having getting the tractors unstuck out'n the field issues. Oh well---
TomW---I had an interesting conversation with a neighbour who came from Mexico told me all cinco de mayo is currently is an excuse to "Party Hearty". All that other stuff is "dead guy stuff---"
Jeff--Getting really interesting motive power there---
Chloe--I'll have a coffee and toast with jam please---I'll go the corner booth and see who else shows up---

BM1 Lee Soule USCG (ret) L.S.&W Railroad Serving the Lower Great Lakes
Evening all from Quasi-Sunny Cal--we had another Pineapple Express (mid-Pacific) storm move in here today, it did a split, missed the Valley entirely, and SLAMMED the Sierra with about 3-4 inches of rain, which means snowpack is history, rivers are full, creeks are bouncing around and the reservoirs are getting filled in record time--which might be a Good Thing if it were next month. So while I had the windows and the doors open enjoying the sunsine, forty miles up the road from me, everything was getting HAMMERED! Ah, California--you don't like the weather, either wait five minutes, or drive forty miles, LOL!
We had choir practice down at the church this evening, drove down there and ran into a Cinco de Mayo block party about four blocks down from the church, parking was a mess. People out in the street in front of two clubs, DJ's on the sidewalk, and instead of Mariachi music, we had Rap blasting all over the place. A nightmare getting in and out.
What, you ask, is Cinco de Mayo? Well, if you ask anyone getting bombed out of their frames at the block party, they couldn't tell you. Even the Mexican-Americans. "I don' know. It's a party." One of them, as I was exiting the Starbucks on the next block, prior to heading to the church, wrapped his arm around my shoulder and said, "Hey, you gonna celebrate?" I smiled and said, "Not right now. Do you know what the holiday is about?" "No." "It's a celebration to remember when the Juaristas tossed the French out of San Luis Potosi in Mexico in 1862." He blinked. "Huh?" I grinned. "Yes. And they lost the city to the French again several years later whem Maximilian of Austria was installed as Emperor of Mexico." "Huh?" I shrugged. "Just a little history there, guy."
Okay, I'm probably wrong on the dates, but I've never understood that celebration out here, anyway. It's a chance to get drunk, eat Tacos and start gang-fights.
Oh well--
Vince: I'm so sorry to hear about Duke. It's a wrench, believe me, losing a companion. I went through it with Lowell last Fall (kidney failure), and it takes a while. My prayers are with you, just remember the terrific times and the great companionship he gave you. The wonderful thing about animals is that their love is absolutely unconditional. And when you feel you're ready, remember that there are other animals out there that really need the love that you can give them.
Jeff: How's the foot, BTW? Not into diesels, but that new aquisition looks pretty darned handsome. And I always hear good things about Atlas. I'm getting really excited about their new track-cleaner, it looks like just the thing for my Pollen-swamped Yuba River Sub.
Jim: Prayers to you, my friend. I hope that this blows over as it rightfully should. One negative should not be allowed to weight heavily against too many positives, which I know you entail. I put you on the prayer list for Mass, and I hope it helps.
Got a phone call from Dave Bischoff at Jesuit today--he's Department Chair for the Fine Arts. Message: After school is out at the end of May, when can we get together for a couple of beers? Hey, that's the way they work over there, LOL!
Well, that's about it from WeirdCal tonight. A buddy of mine just told me that if I put additional Tomar sliders on my Articulateds, they'll run even BETTER! Okay, next project, LOL!
Oh, BTW, in case you need an update on "Uff-Dah the Viking" (formerly known as Remington), here he is, disguising himself as a rug. All 20+ pounds of him.

Hi gang,
I think I need a R.B. Float and an order of sweet potatoe fries, Thanks girls. Hold the flying pies tonight..
Haven't posted for a while but have found time to read occasionally . I cheer for you all in your good times and
offer prayers and sympathies for those less fortunate.
JIM: Sorry to hear that news, but I have always known you to be a very positive guy and I want you to be that way now. Stop beating yourself up. Things will turn around and you will find that all will work out for the best. Just stay positive Bud. Prayers included.
COREY: You are indeed an incredible modeller, those bridges and setting look to be prize winners. Congrats.
VINCENT: I can feel for you as CN Charlie mentioned and others. Over my sixty eight years I have had to put down quite a few dogs, mainly because of old age, but one had been hit by a car after he escaped a dog run and another because of severe arthrightis. It is never easy but in many instances it is the right thing and humane thing to do. Enjoy your memories of him.
JEFF: I wasn't aware that the LM. had an interchange with Uncle Pete. You are getting a lot of foriegn power down south.
JERRY: I was sorry to hear you got your leg tore open, but glad to hear they are accomodating you at home and that it is healing well. How are those staging yards coming along? And do say Hi to Sallie for us.
JR; Was glad to hear of some positive news about your house. Boy that has been a rough year. But soon it will be train time again. Have a great season of racing too.
ROB: Very nice start on that canyon and river. I am anxious to see how the expanded foam gets covered. Please keep us informed and your thoughts on it. Whats happening with those tressels, have you just laid them aside for now??
BRIDGE TOM: Congratulations on the recycled job. You sound extremely happy and I am glad for you. Stay out of the pollen and just cuddle with your lady friend and those two wildcats when it is blowing around. OR maybe we should have an old fashioned "BEE" and all come down there and seal up that garage, install an A/C and move the Buttes back a couple of feet.. .NO MORE POLLEN ON THE YUBA SUB.....................
Where are we getting our orange juice from now. I haven't heard diddle from our Mexican friend (OJ-ED) in along time. Sure hope he is well. Also haven't seen any posts from BLUE HILLS either for quite a spell. And FERGIE, where art thou ??
Best wishes to all the other DINERS. Off to bed now as I have to work late tomorrow night.
The "Wobbly" is runnin just fine and on time to boot. Must get the Wife's camera fired up one of these days.

***Jim, that just plain sucks. Sorry to hear that. Do you have a heavy bag you can take some frustration out on perhaps? Hang in there.
***Corey, when all the parts are finished, that is going to be one impressive layout you can be proud of.
***Garry, that photo is most odd. How are those things used?
Added some rocky surfaces on the wife's foam canyon using a paint stick & tile adhesive. Not sure if it's working yet. Might need to go ahead and paint some sections and then see how it looks.
Have a good night all.
Rob
Good evening (again),
Chloe? Yeah, another mug or two of coffee please, and thankyou.
Believe it or not, but thanks to the magic of iTunes and the internet...I'm sitting here listening to "Conjunction Junction," from Schoolhouse Rocks. The only one I really remember, and the only one I ever really liked. Anybody ever notice that the "AND" boxcars looked like the ROCK ISLAND boxcars of the day?
JIM: I feel your pain brother... I'm still smarting from being thrown under the bus back in my true "Amana Medic" days. And yeah, my mouth has gotten me into a fix or two also. Something in me about not putting up well with BS, I guess. Best of luck to you...whatever the outcome.
In honor of Jeff's new SD-24, here's a pair of CNW SD-18s, that started life as 24's.
I'd say "good night," but a few too many of us ain't exactly capable of that right now... so, I'll just go with "good luck and good wishes."

Evening Diners,
Vincent, really sorry to hear about your dog. It is always a tough decision but they relie on us to to look after them and sometimes that means doing as you did. I can sympathize as we had to put down our little Jamie last October and we still miss him. You do have a good attitude though as you will always have great memories. Heck, I had a dog that passed away 26 years ago and I remember him often.
Corey the bridge looks fantastic!!
Have to run as must pick up my wife.
CN Charlie
Evening, Chloe - just a cup of hot cocoa for me, and I'll take it in the back booth, please and thank you.
Some of you may recall my mentioning a little 'difficulty' at work last week...Well, apparently how I said/did/presented during some of that didn't sit well with one or more "superiors" (and I chose those quotation marks on purpose). Or maybe it was just coincidence that this afternoon, I get called to my supervisor's office (and see our clinical director there) and I get a write-up for insubordination (based mostly on someone's interpretation of my actions (or inactions). The implied threat is there, I have no doubt about that. So having little/no real retirement, being not that far from the so-called retirement age, and having my job in jeapordy, this was not my favorite afternoon of my life to date. I have been feeling numb, mad, sad, anxious, and probably another dozen feelings, and would not likely be fit company for anyone tonight. Those of you Diners of a praying nature (or healing thoughts kind), I would ask your prayers for wisdom, a closed mouth, and better options than what I have at this point.
Thank you, Diners. I'm going to go sulk for now. I may not be in as much for a bit while I sort out, regroup and lick my wounds. I will continue my prayers for you Diners - I need some time focusing on something else (more so, now).
Blessings,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
Good evening,
Vincent (Packer): I can't tell you how sorry I am to hear about your dog. You're making the right choice...and one I dread having to think about thinking about.
Corey: That bridge scene just keeps getting more and more awesome and awe-inspiring.
Jeff: Loving the SD-24. One of my "some decade" projects is to get one, de-turbo it, and rebuild as a CNW SD-18. I found a few in Marshalltown back in '92, then found some dead-lined at Oelwein in '96. Very impressive looking machines.
Chloe, please pour me a mug (CNW would be nice, but not too picky tonight) of coffee please while I settle into a corner booth.
Frustrating day in the newspaper biz. I go and interview a guy about a program through a community rec. center that sells bike helmets at a steep discount. Takes all of about five minutes. I could make a real nice one paragraph news blurb out of it. THAT editor wants something more substantial, I'm sure. So....am digging around the web trying to find injury statistics. So far, I've found some good stuff...from 1998 and 2000 respectively. Nothing like good decade-old information.
Will continue to fight THAT fight tomorrow.
The area I cover is having a special election today to see if people wanna pay an extra cent sales tax or not. Lots of pre-election hoo-hawing from both sides. So...to salvage the trip, and potentially do THAT editor a favor, I stop into the polling places...and wouldn't you know it? RECORD LOW turnout... I finally get a shot of one guy signing-in to vote...
Somedays...I think I'd be better off back driving a delivery van......
Unfortunately, the auto bridge is no longer around. They realigned the highway when I was little so you didn't have to make a ninety degree turn to go under the trestle. The only photos I have of the area with the old car bridge are from old post cards. I may need to add some rip rap around the bases of the concrete bridge to simulate sediment. This river is not very deep unless it's after a hard rain. Here are a couple of photos off of the Blue Earth County Historic Society's website.
Corey-That highway bridge will be a good railfanning area!! Around here those bridges tend to be sitting on some sort of island type of affair---make sure you have a photographer near that bridge!!
Corey, I like it! That's gonna look dynamite when it's finished.
Sorry again about your dog. I'm sure you'll miss him.
Here are a few progress shots of the trestle. The concrete bridge only has a coat of paint on it. No weathering or even gluing has been done. The trestle itself is just sitting in place. I still need to finish painting and weathering the piers before I mount anything. I also haven't planted any trees yet. What do you think of the bushes on the side of the ' road'? I'm thinking they may need to be trimmed any replaced. What do you guys think so far? Please be gentle. Oh ya, we need water as well as more river rocks!
Cederstrand***Jeffrey, didn't take you long to start fixing them up. Going to weather them, too?
PackerWhy do I have to pick up the tab now of all times?
to everyone; thanks for the kind words.
As to his breed, Duke's a black lab, pit bull, and great dane mix. One of our neigbors got him as a puppy as a playmate for their dog, but Duke was to energetic for her. Our other dog got along great with him. I've had him for about 4 years, and he's been a really well behaved dog. Right now I'm just rembering the good time I had with him.
Why do I have to pick up the tab now of all times?
Vincent
Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
***Vincent, you have my heart felt sympathies. My wife lost her last collie to that same form of cancer. Took him in on a Friday and by the time we returned on Monday he was gone. For my wife, that was really rough. You are making the right choice, no question about it!
***Barry, I had Robby make the video and I even let him use his own layout and cars!
***Jeffrey, didn't take you long to start fixing them up. Going to weather them, too?
Finished up for the day so am heading back to the train room tonight to start playing around with some tile adhesive directly on the foam to see if I can turn some of the blobs into rocky looking surfaces. I'll take a Coffee TO GO, please.
Vincent I too am very sorry to hear about your dog. That decision is always a heartwrenching one even when you know it is for the best. You are in my thoughts and prayers!

jeffrey-wimberly PackerI have an update on my dog. He seemed like it was just a virus from a tick since he started getting better shortly after putting him on antibiotics and steriods (his energy increased, he eats and drinks like normal, and his weight started going back up). They did some tests based on a sample from one of his lymph nodes, and the news isn't good. Turns out it's the worst-case scenario. He has cancer, lymphosarcoma to be exact. If it was isolated to one area, it would be treatable but it's everywhere. The doctors only give him a few weeks to live, maybe a couple of months if we put him on kemo. We are electing to put him down rather than put him on kemo. That's really all I have to say for now. Putting him down would be the humane thing to do.

I agree there. That does not sound good at all. Sorry to hear about that
