Posted here, for your amusement, some scrap loads fabricated from the remains of a truss bridge built poorly in the summer of 1987 (Central Valley, I think).
Apologies for the picture quality, I loaned my tripod to the wife a few weeks back...and now can't find it.
Will have to delicately ask her when she gets home tonight...as you can see in the photo below, she's not one to triffle with (in the blue shirt).

Thanks for the comments guys. Its a fun layout, I just don't use it to much.
My B-I-L and I went to a hobby store today, and I got two Athearn "Blue Box" boxcars for $5, and a old Model Power tanker for $3. Might not be the "best cars", but I will just give them a good weathereing job.
Oh, and the brother-in-law got yelled at by the owner. They have a big layout of HO, N, Lionel trains running. So.............He wants to look at the N-Scale up closer, and the owner said "Don't go back there!!!" "I have wires all over the place!!!". He's 27, not a child. I don't think he was going to rip out wires. I don't like the owner to much myself. When I buy HO, they seem to get mad. I guess cause its not the $1,000 Lionel. Just kinda give me the cold shoulder.
I guess I will be back in later. We have no idea what everybody is doing tonight.
Have a good one!!!

TOM (tcwright): Hey, sorry I missed you, must've come in while I was hiding from a flying pie... WELCOME and thank you for your service (vet and firefighter).
JimRCGMO Tom (tcwright), to the Diner, and let me buy a cup of your favorite beverage. Tell us a bit about yourself and your RR empire plans/layout, etc. Good that you were able to catch that train - not sure I'd be able to get to my car and catch up so quickly.

Hi Jim,
I'm not really too new here as I read the forums just about every day, but mostly lurking in the shadows and enjoying everybody's talents. I'm a retired firefighter and Viet Nam vereran who just tries to enjoy each and every day to its fullest. I had a layout in the late 40's and 50's. First Lionel, then I graduated into HO. About 5 years ago my interest returned, but I still don't have a layout under construction. So in the meantime I have been gradually collecting engines and rolling stock for railroads which run in Western Pennsylvania, or did at one time. And believe me, there were a lot of them. If tracks ever get put down, it's going to be a real mix of things from around here. This time around, I also became interested in rail fanning as well. Pittsburgh has some great places to watch trains, but little jaunts up to Cresson, Cassandra and Altoona on a Sunday aren't unheard of. Chasing the Finger Lakes from the Inn was easy as the speed limit on the highway is 55 mph with little traffic, and the train is probably doing 10 to 15 at the most. So the 2 or 3 miles to the crossing gave me plenty of time.

Good Afternoon,
Chloe? a coupla burgers with a large Coke please...I'll eat 'em here this time, put the bag back.
Corey: Happy Birthday to ya!
Ole Timer: Welcome! I'm one of the newer guys here, and it's a good place to be.
Sloooooooooooooow week for newspaper w**k this week, so made up some scrap loads. Will take pics, see if anything turns out worth looking at, and maybe bore you guys with 'em later today.
The weekend looks to be full of...yard w**k, and I don't mean kicking freight cars around. Maybe, just maybe I can get the wife recertified in rake operation...
As the man says, have a goodun...
The IV caffeine has kicked in, so I'll switch to regular coffee in a SOUTHERN mug, please.
***Corey, think I forgot to wish you a very "Happy Birthday"
***Ole Timer, best thing about O scale is "you can actually see everything. I have N, my wife has HO, my oldest brother has Z (he had both O & HO as a youth).
Coming up from the barn I ducted into the train room. Seems tile adhesive doesn't dry very fast at all. Guess I'll start planning the wife's little river area. And perhaps even work on my little staging area.
Catch y'all later. Rob
Jim- Sorry about that. But you're right, by listening to them you'd never know any different.
And What? Did I miss a new Tom? Must have recognized the name from elsewhere in the yard and assumed..... and you know what that means! Sooo.... Tom (tcwright)

I'm a small town boy. A product of two people from even smaller towns. I don’t talk on topic….. I just talk.
Morning, Zoe, Diners. I'll have a cinnamon roll and a cup of coffee in a ATSF mug, please and thank you.(Yum!) And if the Birthday Boy's cut his cake (Corey - have ya?), I'll have a slice of that, too. Thanks!
Good to see you back in the Diner, Morgan - and will be sending a few up today for your tests, as well as for your Dad's treatment(s). I'd have to agree with the other Diners on that excellent passenger car (which probably wasn't as easy as the finished car makes it look...).
NittanyLion - good to see you back, and I don't blame you on that IM tanker car about being cautious with it. Such itsy bitsy pieces in that! Looks very nice (even if it's out of my layout's era)
BridgeTom (twhite) - So, do you think you'll ever really retire? Sounds like the old radio station saying - "...and the hits just keep on coming!" (back) Of course, it doesn't hurt that your students (current and former) appreciate you so well.
Robby- great photos of your layout, and it looks like you've put in a good amount of w**k on it. Like your 'stone tunnel' on the second shot.
Jerry, if it's been five months, you are way overdue to get out some.
And Corey ( - enjoy that prime rib (whether or not we stop by...).
Todd, actually, it's the ORF's like Dick and Paul who don't like the 'W' word... Of course, they're every bit as busy as those of us who go to that office thingee.
Careful, Lee, now you're getting to sound like a 'coconut-counter'!
I'll be getting to my cinnamon roll before it gets cold. Almost time for lunch, too..
- Looks like I'm covering lunch.
Blessings,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
Sparrows are not migratory! It doesn't matter anyway. The fact is a Sparrow could not possibly carry a coconut.
Ole Timer- Glad to hear your sticking around. You pretty much nailed us. Without enjoyment or fun this might as well be work. Whoops, sorry Jim.( He doesn't like that word) Some are more prototypical than others but never a scornful word has been uttered. O Scale huh? You just might qualify for the diners minority discount.
I like your comment on the cars and never seing a real freight. I've seen cars from roads that don't exist anymore being drug down the tracks. I know that they may just be moving to a new local from some back lot somewhere to be repainted maybe, but they are still on the tracks and, like me, if I got it....I'm gonna use it.
Don't forget to try the pie, It's on PC. I mean literally. It's on PC. LOL.
Mornin' everyone!
A dark, cloudy, gray day outside here in the Finger Lakes this morning but pleasant none the less at 68°F predicted for the afternoon. I will have to mow my lawn again today or tomorrow. I also have some errands to run today and then have to drive to Canandaigua to feed Monet my sister's old cat. So I won't be able to spend a lot of time on the layout. Don't really have much I can do until some stuff comes in at the LHS for me anyway.......
Tom, sounds like "old home week" at school. I do hope you are asked back next year. Being around young people is key to staying young at heart, I think. Not to mention you will be back doing something you love and I think miss! Hope the concert goes well and that it will be you at the piano!
tcwright, hope your back gets to feeling better. Not fun to travel and have a back ache! There is always next year when you come this way to have that cup of coffee.........
Happy Birthday Corey!
Sheesh, I started this well over an hour ago! Got interrupted by a phone call that had me doing 3 other things first. So I guess I'll just take my coffee and run so I can do the other 3 things that must be done first and then get to the stuff I mentioned that has to be done today!
Catch you all later!
Ray Seneca Lake, Ontario, and Western R.R. (S.L.O.&W.) in HO
We'll get there sooner or later!
The list is too long so " THANKS guys and gals for all the welcomes ! I like an area where you won't get called on running a non prototypical railroad . Hey conversion and experimentation is alot of the fun .... and that's what I love to do and see what you all are doing . Seems other areas nail you right away with that ... " that building never existed " or the really good one .... you're running cars from different lines on that engine .... think some of them never saw a real freight train . I'm into O scale right now .... but the general idea is the same .... only larger . I think by reading the posts this is where I've found a home . So I'll take a cup of Jo with cream and no sugar .... need 3 of them to wake up .... LOL .
The bank card's on the table guys have the first round of food and drinks on me ... I'll get the tip too .... waitresses need them .... my wife was one when we first got married .... I never stiff them .
Hey Corey..........
IV Coffee in a UNION PACIFIC bag, please & thanks.
***Jerry, the caboose looks good!
***Robby, looks like a fun layout run.
Woke up to a drizzle outside. Excellent!
Have a good day all. Rob
Good morning. It's 72 and quite wet here. The high should be around the mid 80's and it will be partly cloudy. The doctors appointment went OK yesterday. The cellulitis that had been bugging my right leg has filed a change of address and is now residing in my left leg. As a result I'm back on the antibiotics. I hope they do the job this time. No layout work yesterday as I was preoccupied with other matters. Robby- Uh huh. You're not foolin' ME. I see in the pictures that you aren't making those steel loads. You have those little fellers in the scrap yard there make them and then you take the credit! You should be ashamed.

Quote of the Day: "What, Is the airspeed of a coconut laden Swallow?" "African of European?" "What? I don't know." "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhh."
Mornin' Rain today? Who knows. Like the weatherman said once, as his forecast for the day mind you, "so it might rain and it might not. It just depends on what it does." ......I need that job. Busy day today gotta round up a box. Get junk, err, I mean stuff, ready for the garage sale and, of course mow, then bale, the yard. Depending on the weather
Morgan- Unusual project, I've not seen or heard of one before. Very nice.
Tom- Sounds like you're pretty excited. I kinda hope the accompanist doesn't show! (sounds like you sorta do too). Good luck with the "hints"!
Garry- Hey, hey, HEY, Mister!!! You can't be spreading facts and jumbling up all that Illinois has accomplished over the years. You know good and well this state stole Lincoln YEEEEARS ago. Finders keepers, losers weepers.
Corey- Happy Birthday Prime Rib? Where and when. We'll be there,... uh, you buyin'?
Jerry- Caboose looks good. 5months is a long time, I hope you get out and Have Fun!
My BIL law stopped by last night. First time he's been in the basement since the layout was up I guess. He said a friend of his has an around the room shelf layout. Don't know who that is, they live in another town. Anyway he and his wife were impressed and she thought it was "really neat". Said they would have to come by more often and check out the progress. I told her don't expect a lot of progress too quick from here on out. Buildings and scenery can get expensive and the budget doesn't allow for "instant railroad". Not to mention the time it takes. (Especially since I'm trying this take your time thing) Made me feel good, even if they were only being polite, though I don't think they were.
I did a bit more checking on the 4-4-0 and discovered the model number stated was not the model number pictured. The model number stated (51101) is the UP # 119, I believe, and the model shown (51124) is the CP JUPITER. I like the balloon stack look even though the engine will burn coal. It's a nostalgia cruise, and it looks right for the era that the tourists will be visiting. No specific year, just say around the 1870's 1880's. And I'm sure they didn't run right out and pull the spark arresters off everything just because they switched to coal, so I could I guess make it say just pre-1900. Wait, what do I care, it's a tourist thing. They run what they buy that looks neat. As long as it looks reasonably close by my standards. I don't think I want the colors the Jupiter has. Kind of bright. I was hoping to just remove the Railway name and add my own. Hmmph. Back to looking.
Have a Great Day.
Jerry, nice looking caboose!!!
Here's a couple of shots of the layout. I posted it in WPF, but I thought I would post a couple in here.
Good Morning All...Its cloudy and 63..got some more rain last nite with promise of more today with a cold front coming thru..Posta drop back into 40's tonite..I'll have a Slice of Gary's KY Ham on a biscuit and coffee please...Thank you..
HAPPY BIRTHDAY COREY!!!...enjoy that Prime Rib tonite...hope You have a great day...
WELCOME Ole Timer....Hope you can join us often...Let us hear about your Railroad'in!..
I weathered IC caboose yesterday..It was a B-man BN train set caboose...Blanked in 2 windows and opened up 2 others..Cut the side window in...used the B-man trucks with new wheel sets and painted and decaled..Its not quite like the proto type but closed 'nuff for me....
You all have a good friday..Not sure how much I'll be in this week-end My son is coming and He is building Sallie a day bed so I can have hospital bed and He has says he is going to take me out as I havn't been out [except for hospital and nursing home] since November and I got cabin fever...LOL....Jerry

Its raining, and thats a good way to start the weekend.
Not to much planned today. Probably be a lazy day. I will try to get a shot of my layout on here later. Let you see how its cocming along.
Well,I'm out of here. Be back around lunch, with some shots.
Mornin, hows bout steak [rare], eggs n grits and a irish coffee, Zoe. Another cool n wet day on tap for here, continuing through next week. April ended up with bout an inch above normal rain and below average temps. So far we're 4" above normal for the year. It's beginning to sound like last year, cool n wet; I just hope we don't get another 50-year flood like last summer.
OLE TIMER,,, welcome to the diner hope you enjoy the visits. One thing everybody's left out, is if'en you get the top of a new page, you're buying. You kin settle up with virtual CC or cash, which makes the girls n Vinnie happy..

howmusHi Tom (tcwright)! Was the loco 1701? Saw her sitting in the Geneva yard with a few hoppers earlier that day. Probably changing out full ones for empties at the Salt Mine in Watkins Glen.
Ray,
It was the ex-Providence & Worcester #2306. That red & black paint scheme still looks good. The hoppers were a very clean BNSF, two Genesee & Wyoming, and a CLSX (Cargill Salt Division).
By the way, I was going to call you this past weekend and see about getting together for a cup of coffee or something, but last Friday I started to have back spasms which lasted through Monday afternoon. So even though reservations had been made for some time, the trip was very doubtful. The decision to go was made Wednesday morning with the understanding that if driving up there became too uncomfortable we were going to turn around and come home. Although we made it, I've been on the heating pad since we got back. Youv'e invited me to contact you twice, and I didn't want you to think I was ignoring your invitations.

EVERYWHERE LOST; WE HUSTLE OUR CABOOSE FOR YOU
Evening all. It's late here in SunnyCal, so I'll bet that just about everyone else is fast asleep. Oh, well--
Just got back from subbing for the 'Absent Accompanist' at the Jesuit dress rehearsal. Talk about Old Home Week--the guys were all over me. Rehearsal went well, they're just as Goofy (and loveable) as ever, I got mobbed with "Doc, are you COMING BACK next year?" The choir director just grinned, so I think there's SOMETHING in the air. Don't know what. But if so, the answer from my point of view is going to be a resounding YES!!!!
Anyway, the concert's this Saturday and I've got the music if the new accompanist doesn't show up.
Lee: I know what you mean about the cost of those Tortoise slo-mo switch machines. That's the main reason that my Tomar semaphores are operated by my own swtich machine (it's called my Index Finger ). Oh, BTW, found a spot for those two extras I have. Of course crawling up into the 'mountains' to install them is going to be a hoot!
Rob: Jeff suggested spraying the road with Matte Finish. I agree with him. Either that or maybe Dullcote. It might put the finish on that will hold those paint pens.
Jeff: Take care of that foot! Whatever the doctor says, DO IT! On a better note, I really like your mortar on the building--I don't seem to be able to get the hang of doing that. I either let it dry too long or wipe it off too soon. I like your balance.
Ol' Timer: Welcome to the Diner. I think you'll find out as I have, that is' a great bunch of guys. We talk about everything from our layouts to our lives. I like this group, I think you will, too.
Morgan: That's a model of the Lincoln Funeral car, right? I like what you did with it a lot! Got any 'under construction' photos? Nice job!
Well, have a day vacuuming the MR tomorrow (wind today--POLLEN!!) then going to run some trains. See what my little "Prospector" looks like--photos to follow on WPF if it looks good. Mass and Jesuit Concert on Saturday, then the Jesuit Grandparent's Mass on Sunday. And see if those little 'hints' about returning to Jesuit next year are gonna pan out.
Best to all, prayers to those in need.
