uploading pics to WPF; here's a sneak peek

Sawyer, I meant to add this last night, but kept getting "OOPSed." NICE job on the U-boat. I especially like the way the paint seems to have peeled off in places, leaving bare and rusting metal exposed. The hopper behind it looks good too. Thumbs Up

ChrisEight Ball

Thanks Chris. I'm going to do a LOT more to the hoppers though.

As to the U-boat, I've had it done for a while (going to hopefully take car of the trucks today), just never got any good pics of it. As to the paint scheme peeling, where on the loco does it seem like it is?

My ankle is fealing fine today; I'm going for a walk later, so we'll see how it feals after that.

Does anyone have a recent photo of a PRR three bay coal hopper? I need photos of them to guide me because I'm weathering one, and I can't find any on the net. Thanks ahead of time!Smile

Good morning, All.  I am getting a slow start this morning.  Sew til midnight was exactly that.

I plan a little structure work this morning, and then Larry is taking me out to dinner for my B'day.  It has been a week long party that will continue through Monday.  Thanks for being part of my party.

Later,

Sue

Coffee in a large  SOUTHERN PACIFIC  mug, please & thanks.

Seems "Jeffrey's Storm" has been slamming south Georgia today. Up here int he NW corner of the state it's a blustery, raw day.

Wonder what it's like to ride a train through a storm?

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Jeff, do you think the pines are old enough to be stronger, but flexible enough that they give just a little when you have winds/tornadoes there? How deep into the woods are you? I would guess that if you're a bit into the woods, the trees out by the edge of the woods would deflect a storm. But I'm just guessing here.

I'm a ways out in the sticks. It's 3 miles to the nearest highway, 10+ miles to town.

Good Morning, Zoe - I'll have some waffles, maple syrup (the big jar, please), glass of Ed's OJ, glass of milk and a cup of coffee, please. Thanks!

Had the ol' "OOPS" page last night (around 8:30 Central time), and didn't want to stay up too late waiting for it to get fixed (I was on-call Thursday night and got 5 hours sleep, in a one hour and four hour sections). I didn't even set my alarm this morning. Think I half-woke up somewhere around 4-something (but didn't look at the clock, 'cause I never do that if I'm trying to sleep the rest of the night), went back to sleep, and then got up a bit after 7 a.m.

Got a nice suprise this morning - as I was finishing my readings, heard a knock on the door, and there are my daughter and grandson, leaving me my invite to Drew's (First) birthday party (April 5th, a day before the actual date). They were then on the way to visit Andy (son-in-law) at his work. So that was a nice start to the day!

Chris, I get the 'Doc' label too, when I'm at the local police departments from some of the officers.I tell 'em I'm still not going to assess them for their own 'vacation' for 4 days...Smile,Wink, & Grin

Got an email from our LHS owner/MRR club member that my Walthers clearance sale order came in (early, dang it). He may have to hold onto it until payday, but he's done that for me a time or two when the order shows up way earlier than I'd/he'd thought it would arrive. I noticed that Dallas ModelWorks' specials that he's running through the end of the month appear to be from the same list (which our LHS owner emailed the club members). DMW's prices are almost as good as what I get as a club member. (And in terms of disclosure, yes, I've ordered stuff from Craig there at DMW in the past. He's done me right on my orders, so I'm on his email list.)

Ray, sometimes at high school plays the 'kids' do an amazing job on them, don't they? Thumbs Up for them!

Well, my breakfast brunch's here, so I'll "let my food stop my mouth..."

Blessings on your weekend and your MRR'ing,

jim in Cape Girardeau

Yeah I was.  I guess they are pretty strong.  We had a bad wind storm a few months ago, and the pine trees were all over the place.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe I'll have one of those Butter Rum Muffins you have in the case and a bottomless cup of dark roast in a FGLK mug.  Thanks!

Somehow they did it again...... The kids at Geneva High pulled off an incredible show last night.  Only a couple small screwups in the sound.  Considering what it looked like a week ago, it was a miracle!  Another Show tonight, and then the matinee on Sunday.  I will be acquiring several almost whole sheets of slightly used Foam insulation board at the end of the show.  I should be all set for "mountain" making for the rest of the layout............

Today is calling hours for my FIL with the funeral right after.  I will be able to be there for them but will have to leave right after the funeral to get to the High School for Stage Call.  My Sister in Law from California has made it back, it will be good to see her.

Well, I need to finish my coffee and get moving!

Hope you all have a good day!

We'll get there sooner or later!

Jeff, scary shot.  I know its going to be bad when you look behind the trees, and all you see is "Black Clouds".   Are you not worried about them falling down?  The look real close.

Are you referring to this shot?

I've been on this site for about 26 years (12 years with an RV, 14 years with my 25' trailer) through tornadoes and hurricanes and have lost only a couple of trees. There are over 120 on the property (1/2 acre). Half of those are pines.

Good morning, nice and sunny (for now).  Rain, and thunder later.

Well I am in the same boat with Jeff.  I just go with the flow.

The wife went to get her contacts, and a eye check up.  She said "you should have train hunted while I was waiting.  Well so far I have heard three trains since shes been gone.  Thats my luck.

I got me a few new "weathering" projects to start on.  That will give me something to do.

Well everybody have a good day.

Heres a old shot.  ENJOY!!!

I can hardly keep up...

I don't even try to keep up anymore. I just go with the flow.

Good morning.

It's 43 and cloudy. The high will be 60 and it will clear off to partly cloudy.

Nothing much done on the layout yesterday as I was occupied doing a backup on my computer. A DVD can only hold so much and I went through quite a few of them. I'm really not sure what I'll be doing today. I got a really interesting phone call yesterday from a guy who said he was with the IRS and had to discuss something with me about the amount of reportable income on the tax return I filed this year. I knew this guy was a scammer right from the start but decided to play his game up to a point. Apparently he had questions about how much I earned each month and needed to check it against my bank account activity. Of course for this he would need the number of the account in question. This was all very amusing and I was trying my best not to burst out laughing. You see, I had no reportable income last year and there was none listed on my income tax info, all that was listed was simply a 'not required to report' since my income was below the amount that can be reported. He tried the old 'if you don't tell me what I want to know I'll sieze your account' routine, (an account he didn't have a number for in the first place, otherwise why would he be trying to get it) at which point I hung up on him. There was no phone number data on the caller id entry so I have to assume he was using a caller id blocker. If he calls back (He's a fool if he does) I will be recording the conversation. I'm just wondering how he got my number. Only a handful of people know it, mostly fellow modelers. The main thing that tipped me off that he was a fake early on was when he said he was looking at my return and noted I was living in the New Orleans area. The only thing I have that's from that area is my phone number area code. I'm on the other side of the state and a heck of a lot farther inland. Texas is only 18 miles away. Boy, some of these scammers are D-U-M-B!

Hello--good morning--finally got on this morning after a Thursday evening accident wherein some construction co. dug up well marked buried cable, thereby cuttting off cable service. And then, only to discover that you guys were seeemingly having OOPS issues!

Right now it is sunny but kinda cold but then early mornings are that way--high expected to be 12C this afternoon---

Chloe, I'll have a jug of coffee and some toast with PBJ please---I'm gonna sit by the windows here----

I can hardly keep up...

Weekend is nice, got report cards for the 2nd trimester. The usual, all A's. I got into all of the honors classes for highschool, which down the road sets me up for AP Physics... Sounds like a lot of work, and sounds like it's right down my ally. Physics, building things... That's just my area of interest.

What Chris said - listen to the medic! Thumbs Up

Thanks Jim! That's FORMER paramedic...but I do appreciate the vote of confidence. A lot of the guys at Amana called me "Doc." Since they were vets, I took it as a sign of confidence in me. For the lad, I just applied good 'ole basic occupational medicine.

that depot looks nice  - is that a newer one? Looks like newer brick construction to me, but I could be wrong.

The Morrison depot had cut stone with brick the rest of the way up. I've found postcards on "the Bay" from the early 1900's. I don't remember for sure when it was demolished, not sure if I can blame UP or CNW for it. In '87 and '88 the Morrison based signalman worked out of it. I got to look inside one afternoon and it was pretty much empty except for a pile of stuff in a corner. He offered to look the other way if I wanted to fill a 5 gallon bucket with as much as I could cram into it.

I got a pile of signal and track diagrams (all but one eventually went to a guy in Marion who's a signal nut) two different crossing gate lights (lost one somewhere...still peeved), two 1960's AAR safety posters (REALLY peeved they've disappeared somewhere), a battery jar, and a few insulators. He also gave me my first CNW timetable. I later gave it to a younger railfan after another signalman "cleaned out his truck" one evening by the Cedar River Bridge...and I obtained a newer one along with a Central Division general/special order booklet, and some engineering dept. books.

Good memories.

Now, we'll see if this will post...or if I'll get OOPSed.

Quick drop in before bed.  Krump, yes, I do get in from time to time! Thanks for asking, and good to see you again. 15 months? That's quite a stretch Clown

The reason, in particular, that I called in tonight is this http://dvice.com/archives/2009/03/astonishing_mos.php It was posted today on the Yahoo ndcc group site. Worth a watch, even if it is HO. Whistling

Sue:   Hope it's been a good one.

I've nearly finished the mrr themed bird house project for Kris' Arts Association. Pics when I'm done, and I think it's going to turn out OK. Even the free-lanced 2-6-0 may be presentable. I've just a few details to complete on it, and some lettering for the loco and cars, and it will be ready for waterproofing. Sunday should see it done...then it's Tax time. Oh Joy.Banged Head

Goodnight all, and God Bless. Prayers for all in need of healing, Comfort and Peace.Angel

Hi again, Zoe - I'll have my afternoon RBF, please. Thanks!

Yep, Sawyer - take care of that ankle! I'm sure your ankle isn't feeling very good. My usual bad habit is playing volleyball, I'll catch one on the tips of one of my middlemost fingers, and jam that sucker up. [ouch!] But in my case, I can still get around then, which you may be doing ever-so-gingerly today. What Chris said - listen to the medic! Thumbs Up

gotta love jamming fingers. hate it when I do that!

So Sue, I take it that it's your

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

yes? Happy B-Day Zoe, bring out the lemon pie for the birthday girl! Yeah!!Bow

We're assuming you are what? 24 years young? Way to go, Sue! Thumbs Up

So, Don Z.- I'm guessing your son inherited his smarts from you, right? (Better whisper that, just in case Don's wife is peeking over his shoulder at the 'puter...)

CN Charlie, I think the 'Winterpeg' definition of "lucky" must be different from ours down 'South' here SOTB...Smile,Wink, & Grin Hope your spring thaw decides to make its way to your neck o'the woods soon (REAL soon!).

Krump, I'd say you need some more MRR'ing, after a year like that one. And please explain to this Dunce - what is "ringette"? That a NOTB thingee or organization? Good to hear some of how you've been, and that you are a survivor (and we ain't talking no fake 'reality' show here...Wink)

On the DPB deal, I have a couple of those, but I found them kind of hit-and-miss on the usefulness for me. Videos of great layouts are good and all, but I want the how-to's that I can use on my layout (just call me 'Practical Jim', if you like). Smile,Wink, & Grin Those coins? Just one more thing to store and/or to dust, IMHO.

Inch, on those picnic tables, I'd say, get yourself some wood or styrene and a good diagram of a picnic table. I'd likely try to go in with Jerry or someone near you, and cut the pieces for a few, then do it assembly line style. Probably way less expen$ive than the commercially made ones I've seen. I know GC Laser makes some (I think), but their stuff is (with any discount) probably only what I'd call 'medium-priced'.

I might just get some paper and draw up a template, drag it into the computer and post it here. Heck - I might actually use that engineering drawing class I had in my freshman year of college! ShockLaugh

Chris, that depot looks nice  - is that a newer one? Looks like newer brick construction to me, but I could be wrong. On that firefighter story, be sure you don't get yourself backed into a hotspot there...Oops Remember, she might 'hose you down.' Laugh

I'll grab the empty booth and see about doing some sketching out of picnic table ideas...

Prayers for healing for ankles and other stuff, and for comfort.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Good Afternoon, time for a burger and fries, I think.

Sawyer: hope the ankle is feeling better, and sounds like yer doing OK with the "ibu-propane." 800-1000mg/day isn't bad, it's within the doseing limits. Some days, when the sinus is exploding like a carpet bombing raid... I'll slam down 3-4,000 mg. Not smart, but since I don't have a paramedic drug box...don't have the "good drugs."Smile,Wink, & Grin

Oh, and I agree the military isn't for everyone. Heck, I'm not sure I would've done very well in it. I just think in my particular case...it might've done me some good. I've worked with and been friends with a lot of vets and Guard members. They are by far some of the most "squared away" individuals I've known. I was even engaged to one for awhile. She was with a Guard ground ambulance company, as a medic, then later was the training NCO. One of the "snags," I think, was I never fully understood her "military life." I was always the outsider looking in. There were other issues as well...

Jim: Thanks for the kind words on the Morrison pics. Hanging out behind the elevator is still one of my all-time favorite train watching spots. It was better before somebody tore down the depot.Sad

Being "prolific" makes me value-added...a good thing with all the daily papers around us cutting staff. Plus, when a "down" week hits, with few articles, she's got a bunch of stuff cached just waiting to go. It's kinda like an insurance policy for THAT editor, and me!Big Smile

Doing a photo feature tonight, "Family Fun Nite at Van Allan Elementary (North Liberty). I've also got a start on an article about the historic Sutliff Bridge, a very, very, very old truss bridge with a span missing thanks to the flood of 2008. The historic group that "owns" it wants Johnson County to take it back, so FEMA will pay to repair/replace the span. So far, the County does NOT want it back. THAT editor also wants me to do a story on the three female firefighters on the North Liberty department. Most (if not all) women firefighters I've known considered themselves "just one of the guys." I kinda thought we'd moved past that crap...to where a firefighter is a firefighter, regardless of what "apparatus" may or may not be contained within their bunker pants... BUT, I'll chat with their Chief about it, and be governed accordingly. If I recall correctly, I think one of 'em is on the rather cute side...Whistling

Maybe I can convince 'em I'm really doing a calendar shoot...Shock

I still have 2, maybe 3 articles I can harvest from the school board meeting, just have to put the Superintendent into a head-lock for some information. I've got Easter egg hunts coming up to shoot...definitely enough to keep me busy. No work = no pay, so busy = good!

JEFF: Hoping for much quieter weather for ya. They're talking about SNOW here tonight, not much...and three different radio stations have three different guesses for when, where, and how much. If I was any good at math, maybe I'd try that for a living... Miss a forecast big-time, blame it on..."the weather." Apologies to the USAF meterologist who frequents other parts of the forum...

To the rest of yous...have a good, SAFE afternoon, and a better weekend...

Sawyer  I do hope you are not in for a lifetime of problems due to that car accident. 4 200 mg advil liquigels is 800 mg...that's a heavy dose. Been there, done that. Have had a lifetime of various back problems, and now arthritis is settling in. Doesn't get much better I guess.  I too, was not a military person either at your age, and they wouldn't take me cuz of asthma when I did try some years later. Wanted to go in Air Force simply to learn to fly planes on their dime. But I do respect those in the military even if I don't agree about the war they may be fighting.

Garry- my ankle is pretty good today; jsut hurting in one particular strip today.

Jim- true. I am planning on going heavily scenicked though, but I may change the spurs later on.

G-I've had absolutly zero after-affects from that car wreck anyways. and I probably would have been fine taking 2, like i had been until I went to the doc. only took 4 once anyways; after that, went w/ three.

The only time I've wanted pain medicine was the Friday after I got my wisdom teeth out b/c the day before had been both thanksgiving and my birthday, so i had eaten a lot and my jaw was really sore.

Galaxy; There are so many people here I have a hard time keeping track but I'm sure most of us notice when someone hasn't been around.  Hope the back heals soon.  I pulled mine one time lifting a stretcher in the snow, not fun.  And to those with with twisted ankles and such, get better!

Sue; I appologize for not wishing you a Happy Birthday sooner soooo..

Happy Birthday!!!!

AAHHHH!!  Vacation in 30 minutes!

Hi guys

Ham sandwich on rye and hhhmmmm....potato salad...haven't had that in a while. Have to make some.

Boy, be away a day or two and you're out of the loop so to speak. I didn't really bother to read all I missed. I am sure I was not missed much.

Happy BDay to those who have 'em, and the prayer candle is lit for prayers and thoughts to those who need them.

My back is doing ok, I think. Tomorrow is last day for muscle relaxer and pain killers (which never did much pain killing anyway....tylenol actually worked better}

Got to take the van in for new exhaust system. Can't avoid it any more. The Service engine soon light is on now. Instructions say it's related to overburdoned catalytic converter. There goes the juicy tax refund my other half got.

Well, I wont take up much more time/space....

HAve a swell day y'all!

EDIT: Well golly gee, I got top honors so order what you will guys, but please go easy on my strained wallet!

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.

Good Morning Lunchtime, Zoe - I'll have a BLT, mojo fries, and a Dr. Pepper, please. Thanks!

Got called out last night couple/three times to the hospital, so my sleep patterns might be worse than Rob or Ray have had lately...Zzz Got one shift of an hour, then after the last ER trip, another four hours, and then up and to w**k this morning at 8 a.m. Thank the good Lord that it's Friday, and I can hit the sack early tonight, if I want to!Yeah!!

But my daytime w**k hours and load have improved. Smile Had a chat with my supervisor couple of days ago, and she said it appears they're talking about some additional help for our section. Glad of that!

I think I'll stick with the current spur arrangement on the scenicked side (more turnouts=more $ needed for track), but on the other side, I have no idea whether i'll stick with that track arrangement or not.

Sawyer - unless you heavily scenic over it or don't want to modify it later, you always could start with what you have, and when you have more $$, add other switches and additional sidings. Layouts are pretty much open for change later; just depends on how much the change is wanted and how much work is involved. Good luck with getting things up and running!

Chris - nice photos of Morrison! Thumbs Up I really like the one with the grain elevator behind there.Smile You might want to pace yourself on the articles - THAT editor may come to expect 'prolific' w**k every time from you...Banged Head

Don Z. - Congratulations to your son! I do understand that those FFA projects can be a ton of w**k to complete, so he shows good follow-through by finishing that up. Thumbs Up And no, none of us Diners have ever bragged on our kids, or grandkids, or pets, or...Wink You do have to watch out for Garry, though - he's a bit of a 'ham-it-up' kind of guy.Whistling

Ryan, thanks for the side views of those Geeps. As for that bail money, it'd better not be more than a couple of buck of pocket change..Oops

Jeff, it looks like your RR might need an economic stimulus for some newer cars! ShockLaugh (Good job on the weathering - I think Robby would be proud of you, too!)

Attaboy - did I read you right? - you're getting a new 'CFO'? Congratulations! Bow Of course, we want pictures, stories, etc. (so we can convince her that you're totally as wacko as the rest of us in the Diner...) And can she do ballasting and scenery? Smile,Wink, & Grin Best wishes on the garage-to-train-room conversion, too.

Well, I'll kick back and eat my lunch for now, catch up the rest of the way after lunch (and/or my siesta...). Speaking of which, Ed emailed that he's sending a special shipment of the OJ and oranges up from the grove to the Diner. I told him that the twins have decided to put a GPS marker on the Diner cars, so the shipment gets to us okay.

Lunchtime! Dinner

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Coffee in a Soggy Southern mug, please & thanks.

A belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Sue. Hope you had a good one with lots of mrr'ing presents.

***Jeffrey, we usually lose signal during heavy storms, especially the HD channels. Sometimes the HD channels chirp when there are no storms, but I had to run the line a long distance from the Directv dish.

Rain is about past for today. One hole (underground draining) opened up towards the edge of one pasture. It's an on-going issue that requires fixing following large amounts of rain. Not big enough for spelunking, but plenty big enough to potentially cause serious trouble for a heavy animal (horse or cow). Stuffed the opening with branches temporarily. Tractor would get stuck out there right now. Add it to the list.

Have a good day all.
