Now Garry and Rob, why would anyone say anything bad about Berkshire Locos? They are wonderful (just a few years too modern to used on my SLOW.....). Hope that's OK with Duke!
Ok,lets clear up this Berkshire thing and it happens to be the best look’n Steam Locomotive ever bilt. Right
Best to all on sick call and those recovering

Hi Zoe - I'll have a BLT, some cheesey fries and a RBF, please 'n' thanks!
ewl01Jim, What kind of paint did you use on you warehouse? Was it in a spray can?
Jim, What kind of paint did you use on you warehouse? Was it in a spray can?
Eric, it was a can of spray paint (Krylon Outdoor, I think) that I got at Hobby Lobby (with one of their website's discount coupons I'd printed out). But I'm sure that there would be other colors equally usable, at any place that carries Krylon or other spray paints (Wally World, etc.). I just eyeballed the color on the cap (and that was really close to how it is when dry).
Barry, I figure on a lot of this stuff, if it's been sitting there (except for MRR books and mags) without being used for a year or more, unless it's a tax receipt, I won't too likely need it... (My photos go into their own boxes, separate from just plain ol' paper stacks)
DerJohn, good to see you made it back through the snowdrifts! Does that train on your birdhouse actualy move? If it does, the birds might get skitterish about landing in the birdhouse.
Rob, the (MRR) projects aren't the big clutter thing (in my mind, at least...), but various paper, printouts of webpages (and the websites may even be closed up by now), etc. Now the MRR'ing stuff, I'll find spaces for that! On carving that volcano - keep your shop vac handy...
Todd, you'd better run! (What are Berkshires, indeed! Heresy!!) (oh, wait - I model the transition era, in the Southwestern US...)
Ray, that play sounds like it was a lot of fun (for the performers as well as for the audience). I've heard similar things being pulled in plays on the last night of performance.
Jeff, I feel sorry for that poor chef (and you, and the dog, and...) (Really, I do, I just can't help picturing all that chaos going on at once)
Garry - as the saying goes, you're cruisin' for a bruisin'... Since you finished up that track, what'll the passenger car be like - particular model or version (not that I would be smart enough to know it)?
PC, that's a funny bell sound...? (Now the steam sound, I get that!)
Yesterday I was gonna put together a bookcase (for places to put some MRR books and such), but couldn't find the directions (might've been tossed a while back with the box). I started trying to figure out what likely went where, but had too much trouble getting the threaded thingees to start threading with my cordless drill, so I quit for the night. I'll see about it again this week (maybe tomorrow after w**k).
Ah, my lunch is here, so I'll get to it.
Blessings and prayers,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
Boooooo, Ssssssssssss.............
Let's see if this will wake up Duke...... Did you hear about the Berkshire that would not sit down? It had a tender behind.

Jeff,
That story is just too funny!
Also, I see by the picture that the cops no longer try to run Ezra down for speeding.....they just bring the tickets directly to his house!
Todd, I skip around the layout often, depends on what supplies I have on hand or I get tired of doing one thing and move to something different for a while.Speaking of Model Railroader; I’m planning on buying a jar of that plastic model paint stripper and a bottle of bullfrog Snot this week.Lee
Time for an early lunch, so a double bacon cheeseburger, fries, large Coke, thankyamuch.
I agree with Jerry, Ray and Jeff had me laughing almost uncontrolably... I'm a very visual person, so I had the wide-screen Technicolor movie playing both scenes... to quote Jeff from yesterday: "that's hillarious!"
Jeff: glad you survived the inferno, hope the dog came back. I like Ezra's stairway, by the way...very creative and really looks like it belongs there. Ezra must be quite a charecter. I have to admit, I haven't followed the Life and Times of Ezra, so please 'scuse my ignorance.
'Eh, I'm guessing for the next BBQ you're going to have an Engine on standby???
Food's here, so I'll grab a booth in the back to wolf this down. I'm doing follow-up with the school for clarification on board meeting stuff, and trying to line up the week's work. So far, I know for sure I've got an Easter egg hunt Friday morning...between now and then, a whole lot of "maybe's" and "could be's."
Stay SAFE...
Chris
Oh, and I forget who was working on the LARGE buildings/coffee plant. NICE STUFF! If I ever get a workable plan, I'll be doing something similar for my Quaker Oats plant. I've toyed with the idea of building Quaker, then working out the rest of the layout from there.

Large coffee TO GO, please & thanks.
***Barry, there could well be a Berkshire somewhere being used as a birdhouse. It would still be a beautiful thing.
***Jeffrey, I'm with Robby....Dinner & a Show....excellent.
Gotta run. Have a good day y'all. Rob
Good Morning. Its sunny and 40 here We got a big frost last nite..I'll have toast and coffee please..Thank You..I am planning on working to get power to new fiddle yards today...and I plan to spend some time in recliner reading new Model Railroader...RMC hasn't come in yet maybe today..
Ray..I laughed till tears came to my eyes!! What a show that must have been!..Also good score on Styrofoam..paint on one side shouldn't hurt anything..
Jeff..Got my second big laugh with the report of your cook-out..I can just picture that cat landing on the pit bulls back!Did pit bull ever return from hills?
You all have a good one...Jerry
Looks like the top of the page..Flo hand me my apron..Order up and enjoy...
Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, I'll just have a nice hot bowl of oatmeal with brown sugar and a cup of dark roast in a FGLK mug this morning. Please and thank you!
A dark gray, chilly, damp, sunless day here in the Finger lakes so far today. High is only going up to 39°F with a low tonight around 29°F. We will have a bit of rain along with some snow and winds between 20 and 30 MPH. I think I will see if the model railroad is still intact down cellar..... Probably move some trains back to staging that were left in the yard a week ago at the openhouse and then decide what I can do next with what I have in stock.
Jeffrey now I know where they got the Ham for the show......... ROFLMAO
I have a dentist appointment this afternoon (cleaning) and we finish striking the set tonight. One of the parents was taking photos of the sound and light work last night. As soon as he sends me some copies I'll post one just to everyones appetite in check......
Have a great day!

der John; That's some birdhouse!!
Todd; I kinda tossed the rules out the window this time. The layout itself has no written trackplan. I know this isn't the way its normally done. This time I focused on one scene to start. I'm following the basic idea of the plant and track work. This way I can have large buildings rather than have to over compress scenes. The scenes I have in mind won't necessarily follow any geographic line, but be more of a series of displays that happen to be connected by rail. Hmm, I guess that's what most layouts are...... My big plan is for the other end of the attic where a passenger terminal will rise to display my passenger eqiupment. That's far in the future.
Jeff- I'm laughing so hard I don't know what to say!!!!!
Mornin Everbody. Couple of eggs scrambled with salsa please, two strips of bacon and coffee Thank you.
Not much going on today. Just the bookwork for church. Maybe probably a honey-do or two. Just remembered the wife's off til Thurs. Guess that explains why she's still here. Supposed to be real nice today. Temps around 60 deg F.
I've decided instead of skipping around the ol' layout, I'm going to try and work one area until I'm done. Maybe. Or at least kinda, sorta done. I really need to clean that room up sometime.
Have a great day.
Good morning. It's 47 and partly cloudy. The high will be around 75 and it will be partly cloudy. Things went well at the BBQ yesterday AFTER the grilling was well underway. It had been decided that a charcoal grill would be used. I prefer gas grills myself. Anyhow, the appointed chef (not me) loaded the grill with what I believed to be an inordinate amount of match-lite charcoal. He then lit said charcoal and closed the lid neglecting to open the draft on the lid. Five minutes later there was only a slight amount of heat from the grill. Without thinking about what kind of Pandora's box he might be opening the chef snatched the lid up and, you guessed it, WHHOOOM! Flames shot five feet straight up and about two feet to all sides. I lost half the hair on my right arm, the chef lost his eyes lashes, eye brows, the forward part of his hairline and his composure. One of my sisters cats which had been sitting nearby jumped three feet into the air and four feet back, landing on my niece's pit bull and proceeded to tear the dog a new one as this must somehow all be his fault. As the somewhat bewildered dog ran for the hills I slammed the grill lid down and opened the draft, losing most of the rest of the hair on my arm in the process. The poor chef was the object of much ribbing for the rest of the day. On the layout front I tore down the pedestrian bridge. I used part of it to make a stairway to Ezra's home over his gas station. As to what today holds in store, well, as they say, I'll know that when the time comes. Today's Weather for: Sundown, LA 71446-6114 3/30/2009 Wind Chill: 45°F Humidity: 91% Dew Point: 45°F So Far Today High: 48°F Low: 45°F Rain: 0.00" Rain Rate: 0.00"/h Gust: 6mph SSE Today High: 75 Partly cloudy. Highs in the mid 70s. Southeast winds 10 to 20 mph. Tonight Low: 62 Partly cloudy in the evening then becoming mostly cloudy after midnight then becoming partly cloudy late. A 20 percent chance of showers. Warmer. Lows in the lower 60s. South winds 10 to 15 mph.

SSHHHH!!!!!!!!---ahh nuts. Now you've given it away-----can't save my wallet now LOL!!
derJohn--That birdhouse is a neat thing! Love it!
Rob--but I thought berkshire's were more like doghouses! Do you mean that they are a steam loco?
I'm off to see some clients today--in the snow--just to the west of us, apparently, they got some more snow than we did--so Todd's undecidable amounts of snow might just be typical confusion--
After the client visits I'll see about some more foam--we need more for an escarpment thingy--
Chloe-I'll have a coffee and a muffin.Have a good'un----

***Paul & Sue, agreed, cows will get used to just about anything. My wife says, "it's hard to kill a cow". When we buy hay we always find out if it's Horse hay or Cow hay (weed free & clean VS nasty with mold). The latter can make a horse mighty sick or even kill it, but cows have superior digestive systems.
***Ray, congrats on the acquisition of all that foam. Excellent!
Berkshires are beautiful locomotives. Any steam collection without one simply exhibits a lack of good taste. HA!
Have a good night all. Rob

Evenin' folks!
We are done with the show for this year........ It was fun! The Sunday Matinee always has some surprises. This year they did "Kiss Me Kate". For those not familiar with the show, it is set in the 1940's and is a "Play within the Play" plots. It is about a road show of "The Taming of the Shrew" by Shakspeare. Act 2 scene 3 is set in the main room of Petruchio's house. Dinner is being served and Petruchio takes issue that the meat set before them is burned. While he is chewing out the servants, Kate (the shrew) takes a string of sausages and tucks them into her...... uh....... bosom (the best term I can muster....). Shortly thereafter, Petruchio grabs the string of sausage links and pulls them out...... and tosses them off stage much to the anger of Kate. This has brought some great laughter from the audience both nights. Today I noticed the young lady taking a bit more time to stuff the sausage into ....... When Petruchio removed the sausage out came a bra at the end. Took 5 minutes for the audience to recover and totally destroyed the management of sound and lights for a while (very hard to properly do the cues when you can't see because you are laughing so hard tears are coming down your face. I glanced over at the director and his wife sitting in the back of the auditorium, they were completely doubled up and trying to catch their breath. Gotta love it! The leading lady and the leading man in the show are an item as well and I can tell you enjoyed their roles!
Oh, much of the set for the show was made from 4' x 8' sheets of 1" styrofoam. I asked the director what plans he had for it after the show. Since they have no place large enough to store it, he said probably it would be put into the dumpster and that was sad because that blasted stuff was expensive. I will end up giving them a donation to the Drama Club and taking home about 10 sheets of the stuff tomorrow..... Should be more than enough to finish all the scenery on the SLOW (and maybe sell some to some other local modelers). I also happened to mention that to the Father of the leading lady, who is a local minister and a fine violinist who played in the show as well. He was fascinated that I am into model railroading and wants to get together with me to give him some pointers on construction scratch built structures. He is planning on building a diorama of biblical scenes for his church. The foam has been painted on one side but that shouldn't be any problem.
Mark nice ax! I bet you are going to enjoy it. I have to find time to get out my Cordoba Classic and practice!
Flo just a cup of decafe if you please.........
Prayers for all in need!
Thanks, Guys. One more party tomorrow, and I can forget about it for a year.
der, Great birdhouse, but will the birds sit on cars? Hope that you didn't get snowed in too bad.
No fascia today, but at least the masonite is in the house between rain showers.
Mark, Do you have any new locos?
Paul, I know how the critters can turn up their noses if the hay is not the same, but you are right, they will eat when they get hungry. I assume that spring is late in your neck of the woods, too.
Sue
Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.
Heartland Division CB&QWatch what you say. Duke says he sneaks in here without leting you know when he does it. Don't say anything bad about Berkshire steam locomotives
So now we have--? LOL!!
Hello everybody.
Der John ... that's quite a birdhouse. I'm wondering how many birds will use it. Maybe, you could call their beaks "waybills".
I have ballasted the track I replaced, and am back in action. It is so good to get rid of the derailment problem there. Also, I am building a CB&Q branchline baggage/mail car.
I'll have an RBF in the corner booth. Watch what you say. Duke says he sneaks in here without leting you know when he does it. Don't say anything bad about Berkshire steam locomotives.
Happy Model Railroading.
Evenin. I'll have a RBF as well please. Just got back from watching "The Passion of Christ" at church. Wow. That's all I can say. If you've seen it you know what I mean.
Eric- Nice buildings so far. I have no room for large buildings. I wish I had thought of that when I built the bench work. I pretty much just built benchwork for the room and added track. Sizes of buildings and industries you would like. Something to keep in mind, for those of you who haven't started yet.
Mark- I'm a Fender guy myself. ‘52 Telecaster, Vintage series to be exact. I like the tone and the feel. Personal preference, not knocking any other type or brand. That's what makes music great. We don't all want to sound like Vaughn or Page. Or do we?
Der John- Well I think the birdhouse looks great. I hear ya got a wee bit of the white stuff up there? All's well I hope.
Jeff- Um have we seen the police station yet? Cause I'm thinking it may not look like we expect. Especially since Ezra's son is the cop. Wouldn't he be the Chief. I noticed you said "operational" Do you have something in mind? I'm picturing a litter of old broke police cars out back. As one dies, get another car. Cheap. They must have got a good deal on that one cause it don't look to bad.
Would stay a bit longer but Barry's steak is takin up too much room and I know he‘ll be getting some pie too. Might go downstairs and plant some people before nighty night time. Prayers for all in need.
