 Evening all!

Had a great time today. My dad told me that he needed my help getting a printer and some other stuff for his house. So we go to Joes to buy some weights for his bench press and lifting bars, and then we head to the Best Buy for the printer. We get a printer/copy/scan/fax thing (I swear they don't make plain old printers anymore). We then proceed to walk around, and we notice that the local Best Buy has a music department. So we go check it out, look through the drums (Nothing much, a couple DW's, PDP's, and Yamaha kits, and Zildjian cymbals only...), and then my dad starts asking me questions about guitars and amps. Using my limited guitar knowledge, I answered them, and he decides to buy an Epiphone Les Paul. It's probably the cheapest Les Paul, at about $170. Here's a pic:

It's got a 5 star rating, and sounds good to me. We also got a nice amp that's decently sized, and has a decent amount of functions...

So after we get all of this back to his house and set up, I proceeded to show off my knowledge of remembering how to play an A chord, and an E chord. And that was it... So then, I search on youtube for a tutorial on how to play Wanted Dead or Alive by Bon Jovi. Found one, and I am proud to say that after 5 hours, I can play all of the notes correctly in sequence (Not in any exact time, I can't switch chords fast enough... Brief classes at school twice a week for two months doesn't teach you much)from the intro to the chorus. I'm proud, and have hurting fingers... Can't wait to play more when I go back to his house again!

Good evening, I mean morning all,

I worked on ballasting Fox Creek Junction this weekend (no pictures until I get it cleaned up) and starting applying the decals to my road units.

Here is Berkshire #759 ready to roll out of the paint shop and start pulling freight, this is the S-2 model built by Lima locomotive works here in Lima, OH.

http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/2188584740029441264JpBDpu?vhost=good-times

I also played with the two Berkshires sound decoders; the Soundtraxx DSD101LC HEAVY STEAM only advertised 3 whistles.  After playing around with the CV I found about 25 horns.

I can't say I agree with the nothing special about a woman feeling when it comes to firefighters. I mean, if I were to receive mouth to mouth I'd much rather come to looking into the eyes of a woman than Jeff's. Laugh(thinking out loud) Though if he's just eaten some taco's and didn't wipe his face very good....hmm,Whistling might have to rethink that.

Point well taken Todd... what I'm saying, is I thought the "novelty" of it, the "shock factor." Heck...I can't find the right words for it tonight... basically, women have been fighting fire for quite awhile now...so the concept of the article for THAT editor...seems kinda dated. Although, the local dailies resurrect the same story every so often. Cedar Rapids has had, and has currently women firefighters, a few have even achieved the rank of Captain (company officer). Marion Fire has a female Captain (shift commander). Twenty years ago, maybe even ten to fifteen years ago, it would've been more of a story. Now...it just feels kinda, cliche'd.

There are so many of 'em, the Iowa Firemen's Association is (again) contemplating a name change to the Iowa Firefighters' Association. I am perfectly happy with the current name. Those that want the change cite being "PC," which grates on my nerves to no end...and being "more inclusive." The measure has been shot down before...I hope it gets washed out again, for history and tradition's sake if nothing else. And, I think I may work that in to the story.

My dept. doesn't have any...some neighboring ones do. I've seen some that you really had to look to figure out WHAT they were. Others...yeah, I'd let 'em resuscitate me every day and twice on Sunday! I've known, or known of, a small handful with the Feminazi attitude. In general however, I'll back up, or be backed up by a lady firefighter anytime, as long as I feel confident she can pull my butt out...and vice-versa.

I don't know... waiting to see what their Chief has to say.

I guess I just kinda wonder if THAT editor has some kind of an agenda she wants me to advance.

Hello ...

Duke stopped by today! Chalk that up on the calendar!

The line of storms passed thru early evening. Not too bad here.

I'll have an RBF and sit quietly in the corner booth. Hello Barry, Rob, PC, Chris, Todd, Galaxy, Duke, and Sawyer. (Who else? Did I miss anyone?)

First, Chris,  I was gonna ask if you were sure you wanted to be married to her, but then I see you say she came around!~

Galaxy, not really, never had any trouble with Loving Wife. Now...the gals that came BEFORE her on the other hand... THAT's a whole 'nother story...or series of stories. Kit (Loving Wife) designed our wedding around what she called a "firefighter theme" as I was the Fire Training Officer for the Troy Mills VFD at the time. NO tuxedoes! NO suits! NO ties! In fact, the wedding party all wore T-shirts and blue jeans!!!!! Us guys wore navy blue, the ladies royal blue. Since she's a graphic designer, she whipped up a fire dept. maltese cross with a silhouette of a fireman and a lady in the middle. Had that printed on the shirts. We got an Alburnett firefighter, who's also a preacher, to do the ceremony. Instead of lighting a "unity candle," we joined fire hose. Naturally, I got the male end and joined to her female end...Whistling

I'd been wanting to take a ride on the B&SV...SHE suggested it for the honeymoon trip!

She has always, and without question supported my being a vol. firefighter, a model railroader, etc. In fact, when we were looking to buy this house, she asked what room I wanted for my office, and what room did I want for the eventual, future RR layout!

No Sir... never a doubt with this one!

Now, Crazy Annie, Evil Susan, D-Girl, Wacky... whoo-boy, I could tell ya some stories there...

Hope everybody made it through the storms OK today...we've got a mini-blizzard in progress. Last week it was sunny and darn near 70 with grass fires running rampant. This week, it's icy roads and rollovers a-plenty.

Stay safe everybody...

I thought it was over, not yet. On top of the on-going wind & flood watch stuff, we're now under a  "TORNADO WATCH". Nasty looking line coming right for us. Could be large hail, which would be mighty rough on our critters.Sure hope there isn't anything like that with this storm.

Evenin' Everbody, Ya know I think I'll just hav a bowl of mixed fruit on cottage cheese please. Small curd and heavy on the grapes.

Fish fry went great. Sold out again. I did bring in a few leftover homemade pies and cakes for ya'll. Help yourself there's all kinds. Sorry Jeff, no fish left over. Suppose to snow tonight. 1-2 inches then about 60 degrees on Monday.Confused

Jim-glad to hear they might be looking to hire some help. Plenty of work and not enough help can lead to a lot of stress for you. And lately you sometimes sound as if you've just about stressed out at times. That's not good. Get some rest and take care of yourself. Work will be there when you get back.Angel

Jeff-Sounds like you had a pretty good time with the scammer. I haven't received any scam phone calls unless you include the lower your debts by borrowing more money things or lower my phone bills by signing up for a more expensive service. Unfortunately there are some people who don't pick up on even the biggest of blunders these people make and get taken bad. It is curious how they got your number. I guess they could just randomly dial anumber knowing only the local of the rea code, but to attach your name to it??

Attaboy- Congratulations hope the corporate change works well.

OK, OK. For my honeymoon we didn't get to see any trains, but we did see a lot of.......can I say it, can I, huh huh????? Ready? OK we did see a lot of  SHPLAAATTT!!!! Ooh butterscotch meringue.

Oh, I don't know that she'd be so against ALL train tourist locations.  My parents rode the Orient Express through it's Asian portion for their 40th anniversary, and they had a ball!  And my mom isn't really a train fan either.  I think if the location were exotic enough, she might go for it.

Whatever the case........

Well, I'm gonna sound like I'm bragging here...but for our honeymoon, we went to...Boone, Iowa. We rode the Boone and Scenic Valley RR. For our 1st. anniversery, we went back to Boone, springing for tickets to ride in the ex-RI wide-vision caboose.

First, Chris,  I was gonna ask if you were sure you wanted to be married to her, but then I see you say she came around!~

We went to Strasburg RR for our 5th anniversary. We went all out. Sweet. We may go back again this year.

We are not to far from Steamtown and frequent there just to watch them "play" with the steam trains. We can't wait to get there soon as the weather gets better! Maybe for Easter Weekend.

Jeffrey, hope the weather is kind to you down there.

It was sunny and a balmy 74* here today WOO HOO!!!! Tomorrow rain and the clouds are starting to move in.Next weekend the insulating weatherizing Plastic comes off the windows!  WOO HOO!!! I think the a/c has to go in the BR as the O2 machine generates an inordinate amount of heat and I sweat all night when the weather is warmer. Nice to have the heat for the colder months, but need a/c to combat the heat from the O2 machine April to November. WOO HOO!!!

And, I thought your grime job looked like peeled paint/bare metal. And people get their underwear in a twist about "the right" color for something...when it's all subjective.

yeah man. Well, i just applied more powders to a boxcar I'm working on, and the derned can of semi-gloss ran out when I was about half-done spraying the bloody thing, so now I need more semi-gloss! GREAT!

So, didn't do the U23B trucks, but I did get both the ballasting finished and the basic front scenery of my diorama finished up, and the aforementioned boxcar.

I'm a ways out in the sticks. It's 3 miles to the nearest highway, 10+ miles to town.

Sometimes I wish I had that. One highway (rt.35) is 1 1/2 blocks west, another (rt.71) is 1 1/2 blocks east.  The town is 1 mile square surrounded by dozens of other 1-2 square mile towns.  All have their own government, grade schools, police, fire, library, dpw, etc.  Welcome to New Jersey!   Well it's not all that bad, the Atlantic is 7 blocks away.....

Worked on the plant and the freight car building a bit.  It's getting big so I'm taking my time.  I'll be adding supports when I get enough done to put them in. I'll try and get some pics up later.

You read right Jim, getting a new CFO on April 18th.  She's not into trains but she doesn't mind that I am.  She already knows how wacko I am, I tried talking her into getting married in July so we could go to Hartford for a honeymoon.  She nixed the idea as soon as she found out about the NMRA convention.  Duke met her when we met him and his friend at Steamtown last year.  She only put one restriction on the honeymoon, no tourist train locations>Sad

As to the paint scheme peeling, where on the loco does it seem like it is?

Well, to me, that's what it looks like to the left of the Santa Fe on the hood. Might be road grime/munge... I thought it looked like weathered/oxidized/grimy bare metal, and wondered "how'd he pull THAT off?"

Difference in interpretation vs. reality??

Afternoon Gang: I guess the right sideof the page is going to head off into the nether world. I tried the compatibility view but it didn't work. I guess I'll just see how far it will go.

Not much doing here. John and I hauled hay from his place about 35 miles west of here yesterday. We got 12 bales in two loads. He hauled 8 bales on the goose neck and I got 4 with the pick up and 16 ft trailer. I feed out two bales yesterday and the cows were not happy with it. They are spoiled but will come around when they get hungry.

The weather here went right to December yesterday. It's cold and very windy right now. Much better being inside.

Well I think that I'll get going and clean the garage some so I can get some of the stuff off the layout.

See you all later.
