Sawyer, looks pretty good. On the left side, are those outside tracks at two different levels, or do you have a crossover there? On some of your sidings (in both parts) it wouldn't be too hard if you wanted to, to add another siding off of one of those (plastics plant, or in the future part on the left side).

Keep at it, there. Thumbs Up

Jim in Cape Girardeau

I accidently brought them too close on the plan; they'll stay parallel. I think I'll stick with the current spur arrangement on the scenicked side (more turnouts=more $ needed for track), but on the other side, I have no idea whether i'll stick with that track arrangement or not.

Hey guys, here's what I'm dubbing my "Rail 'em and Run 'em" layout:

I'll build the side w/ the scrap yard and plastic footwear first, then the ethanol plant later on. I'll also be ordering an airbrush, so this will serve to showcase those models. I may change from the ethanol plant to a 1960s/1970s/1980s midwest plains town (like CNW, w/ a grain elevator and some other industries; I'd have to research).

Hello everybody...

Looks like I need to go back and do some work on an older section of the layout. I'm getting repeated derailments in the same location. Those nasty little gremlins drive me crazy. I have one curve in a hard to reach location that is a problem with certain cars but not all cars. if course, such problems commonly take palce in hard to reach locations.

Jim says he's busy. Is that job security, Jim?

Evening, Chloe! I'll have a cup of coffee and some of those strawberries and vanilla ice cream, please 'n' thanks!

Today at work was better - some of my appointments didn't show, and I was able to get lunch pretty much at the scheduled time. Hey, w**ks for me! Smile

Rob, for the crossing ringer (if nobody's already answered it for you) try this page if you're reasonably handy with electrical/electronic stuff:  Crossing Bell Ringer Circuit - Hope that helps you!

Goodness - must be a busy day elsewhere, as it looks like people haven't been in much this afternoon (and not in a lot this evening)! Chloe, is everyone out spending their economic stimulus checks and mine hasn't arrived yet? (Non-political comment there, really!) Looks like only every hour or two that a Diner's been by.

Well, since nobody else has been eating them, could I have a slice of the butterscotch PIE, with Dream Whip topping? That is graham cracker crust, right? Oh, great - my favorite pie crust! YUM!! Dinner

I'll be settling down with my two (count 'em, TWO) desserts for now, until somebody else comes in - or wakes up. Hey, Barry, Duke! (nudging them gently, but ready to jump if needed...)

Prayers and Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

notably adding railings to my GD30, a 6 axle short range version of a GP30.

No offense, but a friend of mine was RR shop worker and he called the GD30 a GD30 because a lot of the major electrical equipment was hard to access.

 Jim, thanks.

Well, I've looked at the costs of building my Favre switching layout, so I'm planning a 3x6 layout to build so I can run trains, do a touch of switching, and still have plenty of spending money etc. I'll build one side, then later on, build the other.

Coffee refill and a plate of sugar cookies, please & thanks.

***Thanks, Jim. Will look into those pens next time I'm near one of those stores. That seems like the quickest way to dull the rails.

Question: One of the wife's rr-crossings has the old bell ringing system, set off from pressure on the track. I hooked it up to ac terminal and all you hear is the loud motor with faint (and way to rapid) bell ringing. Anyone know of a cheap way to lessen the ac current to slow down the motor? Wondering if a small wall-warts/transformers might work? Will that little motor work on DC or only ac? Thanks for any help/suggestions.

Good Morning, Zoe - I'll have a cup of coffee for now, since it's not that long until lunch. Thanks!

Oh, Garry - nope, I wish I were out because of 'California' (anything). It's been quite hectic at w**k, and by the evenings, after I get dinner in and check some emails, I don't have enough time to post very much in the Diner. Trying to get caught up, little by little.

Prayers for those Diners who've had family illnesses and losses recently, and for healing for another bunch of Diners in need of healing. AngelAngel

Jeff - with Ezra's new digs up there, I hope none of the neighborhood kids decide to make off with his ladder!EvilShock Sorry to hear about your losing your 2-6-0; that fire was just plain weird, sounds like. On those handrails, I'd bet some of the prototype ones aren't completely straight after they've been around a while, either. I like your morning shot, also. Smile

Alright Robby, after seeing that shot out the front window, I hope you didn't get any pics of Duke inside the Diner snoozin'... Might embarass the poor fella - not to mention what Zoe and Chloe might do if you post any pics of the Diner walls after a 'catapult war' with certain PIES! Oops

Barry and Robby - maybe it's that many locos on that line because of union rules? Whistling

Now Barry, you keep that kit-building up, and you'll shame me and the others into actually doing some of that ourselves! Wow!! (Actually, I got my Walthers modular warehouse walls (most) painted real (red) brick color this past weekend...does that count?)

Ray, glad your FIL's at peace and back with his wife. Good indeed that you got some time with him before he went home.He looked like he enjoyed life. Love your coaches, by the way, and the 'up-to-date' shot of the depot.  Hey, on another note - (sorry, Garry...) are you sure that the Bach with that blonde wasn't PDQ Bach? Smile,Wink, & Grin

Chris, nothing like a little motivation to get the presenter to move things along, eh?Wink

KRUMP! Sign - Welcome back to the Diner! It's been a lonnnnggg while. Whatcha been doin'?

Sue - love those trees (and the station)! Bow How'd you do those (or what brand are they, so I can see about getting me some...)?

Rob, if you have a H-L anywhere near you, they've started carrying (Floquil? W-S?) what look like marker pen sets, and there's a rail 'weathering' set that I've bought. Haven't tried it out yet, though. You might look at them if you have a 'Lobby any place close by... Hey, nice HO scale clowns there...Whistling On your plan, I may not be much help, as I'd try to figure out how to do BOTH the natural bridge and the trestle.. Best wishes for you on that. You could put the two choices on a dart board and throw blindfolded at it - the one it's closer to, is the one you go with.Confused

Jerry, those coal hoppers look like they've been "rode hard and put away wet," as the saying goes. Nice catch on them! And you go for that breezeway expansion. Yeah!!

Eric, looks like you've been making progress on your coffee plant. Thumbs Up I'm guessing that's the float kit in the lower pic, right? Okay, I'll read ALL the way down next time...Oops Oh, I missed that show last night. (What politcally-charged statement?)

Sawyer, way to go on the Shakespeare memorizing - good score! Bow Now after this semester, you can forget it all like the rest of us did. Wink

JP, nice job on the Learning kit - now, me, I'd be trying to figure how to fit that into my layout some way. Hmm...

Ryan, I don't think they could miss that loco too easily - wonder what the side view of that paint scheme looks like. Have fun at your conference/training thing (but not too much... we don't want to have to send you bail money in San Anton!).

Mark, sounds like you had a good share of fun with your play (and maybe more to come in HS). Thumbs Up Stop by more often, now that the play's done!

Zoe, I'll have some tacos for lunch, and a Dr. Pepper for now. Dinner No, just the regular sized, not the Jeff-sized ones. I don't need that much lunch, thanks!

Blessings,

Large coffee, please.

***Chris, cool pic of the old diesel.

***Jeffrey, nice "night shot", as we've come to expect from you.

***Philip, you just have way too much fun at the office.Wink

***Garry, thanks! All it needs now is some railing so the Inlaws don't fall over the edge. Hmmm, maybe I could leave the rails off for one particular Inlaw...might be doing everyone a favor.EvilLaugh

Up to 1" rain today, 2" tonight, another 1" tomorrow...we're in a rain cycle which is great for the pastures. We're under a flood watch. Some thunderstorms start up tomorrow. YeeHaw!

My last track order will not ship until next month, as their policy is to wait 2 weeks on personal checks. I hate the wait, especially when today would have been ideal for working out the final track plan. Oh well.

Speaking of plans, I'm really leaning towards a Natural Bridge as the primary feature in the little canyon. Tough call, but would be fun to sculpt it and easier (for me) than trying to build a "to scale" trestle. Or, I could still use that HO scale trestle. What should I do? Some decisions seem hard to make.

Healing thoughts to those in need.

I know where you're coming from on the pain. Having to walk for more than a couple hundred yards leaves me in agony and having to walk around in Wal-Mart or any other store for that matter is a very memorable experience. I make frequent use of their Mart-Carts.

Mornin' folks!

I'm up early waiting for an electrician to show up to put in a dedicated circuit into the main train room.  When finished it will provide a breaker to shut off when I leave the room so that everything train related will be off.  No more rolling over in bed a 2AM wondering if I remembered to unplug the soldering iron......

Zoe just a bowl of hot Cream of Wheat and a cup of Dark Roast in a FGLK Mug this morning.  Don't forget the brown sugar, thank you!

Still a bit nippy in the mornings around here, currently 35°F here in the Finger Lakes but we expect a nice 51°F later this afternoon.  Rain Showers late this evening and heavy rain all day tomorrow. At least it isn't going to come down as "white" stuff.

Jeffrey good to hear that your test came back with some good news for you.  Plain old cellulitis is bad enough.....

Philip hope all the "emergencies get fixed today with no new ones to deal with.

Sound for the Spring Musical is starting to fall in place.  The kid helping me had the flu last Thursday and through the weekend.  He still isn't feeling great but was there last night and did a good job of following the vocals.  They are still having major problems with scenery so the director hasn't had time to "critique" the sound so far.......

Hope all of you have a great day!

Mornin' all!

Indianapolis, Indiana
Currently: 50°F Rain

Today: mostly cloudy with a 30 percent chance of rain showers until midday, then partly cloudy in the afternoon. Highs in the lower 60s. Southwest winds 10 to 15 mph with gusts to around 25 mph.

Well, today should be pretty brutal around this office.  We had a murderous day yesterday, and none of those problems got resolved.  Those people are going to be screaming even louder today, plus, you just kno there's going to be new issues to deal with.

I can't wait for 5:00pm already!

Guess I'll just have to hang in there...........

Good morning.  Its going to be a rainy day.  Looks like the rain is in WV, right now.

Yesterday, well I mainly ran some trains.  Didn't work on the layout to much.  I did go to the Dollar Tree, and bought some cars for my junk yard.  They are kinda out of scale, but a hammer helped put them into some what scale.  I also bought a 1/64 scale "hot rod', and weathered it.   Turned out pretty good.

I guess I might go now, and take a movie back before it starts to rain.

Well have a good day, everybody.

Good morning.

It's 54 and very wet here with more thunderstorms rolling in. High will be around the mid 70's with thunderstorms.

Between doctor appointments, visits to the parents and sifting through stacks of computer specs for my sister I actually got some MR work done yesterday, notably adding railings to my GD30, a 6 axle short range version of a GP30. It took a couple of hours, a lot of drilling and a chopped set of railings from a Bachmann GP50. I finally added the last couple of pieces to the rear steps last night. A set of railings made specifically for the model would have been nice but Athearn hasn't made a GP30 since what, around 1965? Now about the above mentioned stacks of computer specs, my sister has decided to get a computer for use at home and she doesn't want some Wal-Mart special from Dell or HP. The hours of going through dry specs came down to a decision between a HP notebook that had a lot going for it and a desktop from ZT Systems. Both are comparably priced. She doesn't need the portability and convenience of the notebook and she really likes what the ZT has to offer and I must say that I'm impressed with it as well. It looks as if she'll be ordering that system. Looks like it's gonna be pouring down rain today and tomorrow. Good thing I got the grass cut when I did. Right now I'm looking over the layout and determining what other mayhem I can get into. There are some city scene details (phone booths, bike racks, etc) coming but those are still days away.

Today's Weather for:
Sundown, LA  71446-6114      3/25/2009

Humidity97%
Dew Point51°F

So Far Today
High72°F
Low52°F
Rain0.50"
Rain Rate0.60"/h
Gust33mph NNW

Through 7 AM...numerous showers with a few thunderstorms will move northeast at 25 mph across portions of southeast Texas and central Louisiana. The majority of the activity will be northwest of a line from Marksville to Silsbee. A few lightning strikes and brief heavy rainfall with rates around 1/2 inch per hour can be expected with the storms.

Today  High: 75    Showers and thunderstorms. Highs in the mid 70s. North winds 5 to 10 mph in the morning becoming east in the afternoon. Chance of rain 80 percent.

Tonight  Low: 62    Showers and thunderstorms likely. Lows in the lower 60s. South winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 70 percent.

Long time, no see...

Wow, I don't even remember when my last post here was. I think it was on Elliott's Diner 8, lol.

The play is over. It was a great fun ordeal, and I miss it... I played my lead part for two of the four nights (cast A), and got showered with compliments... I'm definitely going to try acting later in high school. Good thing my future HS has the best theatrical department in all of Washington State!

I've heard news that 4449 will be stretching her drivers out to Michigan this summer... Maybe I could get driven south aways and say hi to the old girl before she gets there. Sounds like fun to me...

Deadliest Catch starts in three weeks... Can't wait for that, although I swear it started in January last year...

Catch you all later,

Mark

Chloe, a large mug of coffee and another slice of that apple pie if ya please, thankyamuch. I'll just hang out here with Barry while I take a coffee break.

Got one of the interviews from today turned into a "package" for THAT editor. She gets: the article as a Word document, a folder of raw .jpg pics, and edited/cropped/adjusted .eps pics ready for publication. Who woulda thought a simple little piece, about a real estate agent buying a house, and remodeling it into offices for him and the staff would be so tough to write? Had major writer's block, but got something (hopefully) coherent and interesting hammered out.

I really should write the second one tonight...or at least get it started. It "should" be easier, and is about a non-denominational Christian school moving at least a little closer to constructing a new school building. I got a brief history of the school and project, update on fundraising efforts, and bid info. I also got pics showing their lack of space and the vacant lot. Easy, peezy, Japanezey. Hammer it out, send it to the school's development dude for fact checking on the financial jazz, get some images out of him (archetectural renderings)...and viola! Another package for THAT editor.

But...enough about w**k.

JEFF: The GD-30 is really growing on me. I think the rails look just fine, like a unit that's seen a lot of work over the years. And, the lack of a vertical rail on the rear matches a CNW geep I saw in Marshalltown once upon a time.

Still not real sure where/if UP went off the rails yesterday. The Storm Prediction Center did NOT have it in their storm reports from yesterday, but did have some semi trucks blown off the road near Mo Valley. The UP's East Iowa...uh, I mean "Clinton Sub." has been running normally...usually if there's trouble out west, Dispatcher 12 ends up bugging the westbounds if they're OK (qualified on the territory) to run to Des Moines or not. I haven't heard any traffic like that today/tonight.

Well, I oughta get back at it. Guess I'm pulling the night shift tonight; an unintended consequence of working from home.

G'night all...

Chris
