Good Evening...well, for a few more minutes anyway...

FINALLY finished the energy efficiency inititives article. THAT editor should be happy...guess I'll find out in a few hours when we do the weekly "face time," or what normal people would call a "meeting."

And yes Gents and Ladies, the Diner IS a different place, with a distinct and palpable brotherhood. I'm not particularly religious, which is why I don't offer prayers...but I know there are some guys here that need 'em...and I know they're getting them. THAT is what sets this group apart from the others: egos are left at the door, genuine care and concern for thy fellow man (and woman, don't wanna exclude Sue!) is shown and real, ideas are exchanged freely, and dang it...a lot of fun goes on in here too.

I hope Bergie DOES look in the window every so often...to see just what this Diner is all about. I'm sure there are plenty of jerks (wanna use stronger words...but this'll work) elsewhere among the Kalmbach railyards who complain about this forum and those of us who frequent it. I just hope Bergie continues to keep 'em at bay.

Allright, that's enough for one night, I thought I caught a glimpse of a pie launcher turning my way, must be my cue to relenquish the floor... guess I'll settle my tab for the gallons of coffee the ladies poured into me tonight, and head for sleep........Zzz

A good and SAFE Friday to everybody, best wishes to all.

Chris

EDIT: Hey, post number 131. I'm NOT keeping track of how many times I flap my jaws on here...but 131 is one of my favorite numbers. You see, in my county, they page the fire departments out by number rather than name. Bennett is 121, we're 131, Durant is 141, Lowden is 151, Mechanicsville is 161, Stanwood is 171, and Tipton is 181. West Branch rounds out the departments as 191. Don't know why they do it that way here, every county around us goes by name. Strange. So...when they page the Clarence Fire Dept., they set off our pager tones and call for: "131, 131, you are needed..." I've heard that a LOT lately...

Anybody want to guess why I liked seeing the number 51 when it came up?

Good morning all,

The USRA Light 2-10-2’s arrived yesterday!  I almost had heart failure when I saw the tenders were oil burners.  After looking at the instructions I found those oil covers can be removed and poof they are coal burners.  Total cost for both locomotives and shipping was $171.20. These are the Bachman Spectrum with DCC and include a fireman and engineer in the cab.

Rob, you’re going to have problems with your brass crossing if you have steel track. I’m running 90 brass turnouts with nickel silver flex track with no problems to report.  They do sell conversion sections of EZ track so you don’t have to cut.

Chris, I’m fond of the “rule of thumb”.  If I hold my arm out with my thumb extended and I can block my view of the incident I’m typically in a good spot.  I never cleaned the discharge or release I supervised the clean up and then followed up with the “how clean is clean” evaluation.

We've got some clients to see today so I'm told--only 2 but it's better than el zippo all week!

Bill-Now, I got some real measurements to go on for my crossings ---Thanks for posting those!!Bow

Um, Chloe, I'll have the full breakfast platter with a barrel of coffee please---oh and a spatula--yes--the pie is on the wall again-----

Hey Gang! Good Morning to all!!!!

Sorry I have been out of the shop for the last few months. Between work, my personal life, and doing things around my house, the tie just flys right by. I'm sure most can relate to that. I'll make sure that I stop in more frequently now.

My thoughts and Angel prayers to those in need.

Anyways, I've been making very slow progress in completing the WS Learning Kit I got a few years back. All I ahve left to do is Glue the ballast down and place a few trees on it and it will be done. I'm thinking that by the end of the weekend, I should be done. I'll get it outside after that for photo shoots, that will showcase some of the new equipment that I have gotten - vehicles, engines and rolling stock.

Well ladies and gents, I'm off to get some errands done.

Take care, Have a great day, and I'll talk to everyone later on.

(yaaaaawn) Mornin' everbody. Happy first day of Spring. I'll have 2scrambled eggs, sausage, fried potatoes. Put it all in a pile and cover it with white gravy please. And a mug of coffee Thank You.

Chris-Wouldn't happen to be Squad 51 you are referring to would it? Or am I showing my age to say I watched "Emergency", let alone say it was one of my favs (and Adam-12) when it WAS NEW!! Luckily I can say I was but a young lad. Let's see Ken Gage and oh, what was his characters name? Kevin Tighe played him? He drove most I think. Hmmm.

Garry-Yes, Jim is a very nice guy.Big Smile

Not much going on today just gotta do a bit of spring PMCS on the generator. Got the tractor, (lawn, 1ea)and the push mower done. DUCK!!!! Oh (chuckle) sorry. It was just Barry dropping his knife. I'm a bit skittish since that catapult showed up. Anyway, I gotta take extra care of the tractor. It's a family heirloom!Laugh After 32 years of faithful service it's still running strong. I think I'm gonna have to pull the carb off later though and do a bit of cleansing. Never been off before. I hope she doesn't get scared. Should have done it then but it runs good. Just has a bit, a wee bit, of trouble getting started. But then again...so do I. Laugh It's taking longer to get the things done. Every time I'd get started someone comes over and says, "Say, ya busy?" Grumpy My wife says "it's nice people pull you away from getting your stuff done, to help them get their stuff done" Oh well, we'll see how today goes.

Have a Great Day!

Now, my question is... " Who did the decorating?????????? " Shock

Goooooooooooooooooooooood morning.  It is suppose to be about 43 today, and sunny.  You know what that means!!!!!!!!  Well I really don't but anyways........

Barry, I don' know why you are trying to sneak in.   I was told we won't get any pies till this afternoon Big Smile.

Well  I guess I will work on the layout some more.  Kinda working at the scrap/junk yard.

The wife has a CAT scan this morning.  Hopefully we can see whats going on.

Called about getting the car to the shop about a light coming on, and a sound coming from the left front tire.  Of course the guy at the dealership wasn't listening.  Told him about a light coming on and a sound from the tire.  "So you have a light making a sound?" Dunce............ I have yet to find a dealership with a half decent shop.  He said the car has a 5yr/60,000 mile warranty.  Well I found a paper that says 10yr/100,000 mile.  Now I see that will be a arguement.

Well I guess I will clean up a bit, and head into the basement.

OK can someone explain this.  I believe it was left behind.

(snaps fingers) That's right JOHN Gage. And Roy....(pause. then return from trip to IMDB.com)....DESOTO! I did not realize the show lasted that long. I really only remember watching a couple of seasons. Well come to think of it I remember when the truck got the new front grille style so that would have been what 76? I guess I watched it much more than I thought....Whistling

EDIT: No wait. Dodge made the big grille change in '77 so then I got my D.L.in '78...then work to support D.L. activities (car) then TV goes backcorner. All becoming clearer now.

Sorry man, didn't see yer post at first. You too nailed it. Oh, and just for useless trivia's sake (might come up on some TV game show, win you a bazillion bucks), it was John Gage and Roy DeSoto (Tighe), and yeah, Roy drove about 99% of the time.

Watched it religiously when it was"new," saw it in syndication, got 1990s VCR tapes of it, taped hour upon hour of it off of "TV Land," now I've got the DVD's.

Yeah...I'm a geek. "In Squad we trust."

Chris- You guys talking about the Haz-mat FR stuff reminds me of one class I attended and the question was posed in review,I believe, "what do you do when you first arrive at the scene of the incident?" He called on me. I stood up. waved my hands and arms franticly above my head as I shuffled to the back door and, using my best "Monty Python and the Holy Grail " voice, said "Run Away! Run Away!" Yes the instructor did laugh. And yes for a moment there I did wish I had engaged the ol' noodle before taking action. Laugh

Goodmorning, all.  I just stopped by for a coffee and cinnamon roll.  Gotta have those sweets.  I am excited about the MR meeting tonight. We are taking a diorama that Larry did which includes a laser-cut building that I made.

John,  Can't wait to see you project with the WS kit.

Later,

Mornin' everyone!

Sun is again shining here in the Finger lakes melting the snow that fell overnight.  Hey it's not officially Spring for another hour and a half!  Anyway all of 28°F right now and might get up to 38°F this afternoon with any luck.  Yep, Philip and a couple other guys right to the West of me sent yesterday's weather over to us.  They do that all the time you know.  On the other hand the forecast looks great for the Lakeshores Division Meet tomorrow.  Too cold for people to want to stay home and do yard work, and no rain or snow so the driving should be good........Smile,Wink, & Grin

Todd and Chris, you guys are just youngsters!  I was out teaching already when those shows were on the idiot box.  I remember them well.  Back then they actually had some good shows on TV.   Car 54 Where Are You? was my favorite of the bunch.  I have a passenger car that will grace the end of a milk train express on the SLOW and in honor of what will I figure is going to happen when I start doing operations here it is numbered............  You guessed it "Car 54".  I also love Monty Python and the Holy Grail and have used that line many times myself. Laugh  Love it!

Zoe dark roast coffee in a FGLK Mug and a pumpkin pie.  No, not a slice, a pumpkin pie. What's the problem?  I'm planning on eating it not like those other guys!

Got a call from the dealership about my old Dodge Dakota.  Brakes seized up a couple days ago.  This time they found the problem.  Rust in the brake lines.  So I'm getting the whole front system replaced to the tune of......$$$  But I plan on keep the old girl for when I need the truck to pull the trailer and hauling stuff so.... This is the first major repair since the truck was new.  Only a couple of small items have failed before and most were covered under the warranty (which is now gone since it is a 2002 model).  I put about 1000 miles a year on it now, but when I drive it the brakes have to work right.

OK I have a days worth of work to get done before lunch so I will catch you all later!

Ray Seneca Lake, Ontario, and Western R.R. (S.L.O.&W.) in HO

We'll get there sooner or later!

Lee- I was feeling bad for you about the piggy flipping until you reminded me of the CFR/HAZ-MAT/ Fed and state “refresher” training. Ooooooohh what a lovely time that was. Even the coffee was horrible! I sure don’t miss that or any of the other “trainings” we had to go to.

Todd-Are you sure that the 'coffee' being 'served' was not something else??

Uh, Lee, did you ask them about the MSDS for the coffee?...Oops Oh, and here's a link for those of you who wondered about the coffee they served at one of your Haz-Mat-related trainings: MSDS-maker

Todd, it's amazing how much better our memory and recall gets, after a couple of cups of coffee (or couple of bags, for those of us using the PC IV method) in us, isn't it? Smile,Wink, & Grin Oh, on your other comment? I think a number of us are in that category now...Whistling (Whistling that Starship tune - that I can't get out of my head. Guess I'll have to go hunt down an MP3 of that now. Banged Head

Bill T. - Thanks (also) for posting those diagrams! Thumbs Up

Whoooooosh!  Hey! was that JP dashing through? JP, ya gotta stay a little longer next time. (We'll put away the pie cannon - really!)

Robby, I think that thing you found was the small mock-up, before they built the full-scale version of the catapult...Whistling

So Todd - what did your instructor say after he and everybody stopped laughing? Wink

Well, this weekend I'm backup for Sat. and Sunday, and hope it will be very dull in that end of things. H-L has their 40 percent off an item coupon running, so I'll likely go by there (it'll also be payday by Saturday). Need to do major de-cluttering around the apartment (and haven't gotten to it previous weekends, so...). I'll stop by the Diner in the morning or afternoon (after I pick up my pie shield at the hardware store), I suspect. May even have some pics of a bit of progress on my DPM background warehouse, I hope.

I'll get started on my breakfast now before it gets to lunchtime. Prayers for a great Friday (and weekend) for you and yours.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

I didn't get much done on the layout yesterday with the exception of building a small berm around the bases of some buildings so they don't look like they're just sitting there on top of the ground. One of the lectures I remember from Wayne Wesolowski was to 'plant those buildings'. I went to check my snail mail yesterday and found a large box beside the mailbox. It contained a number of homemade trees and two bags, one of green turf and the other of clump foliage. That saves me from having to drive to Alexandria to get more turf and foliage for a while. I may be planting trees this weekend. The doc has me on some pretty stout antibiotics this time around and I feel like a wrung out dish rag. I feel so tired I could just go back to bed and stay there. However there are things that must be done.

Today  High: 75    Mostly sunny. Highs in the mid 70s. Northeast winds 5 to 10 mph.

Tonight  Low: 52    Mostly clear early in the evening then becoming partly cloudy. Lows in the lower 50s. Northeast winds 5 to 10 mph.

Large coffee, please.

Thanks for the tips, guys. Still would like to know which vintage brands of animated "road-crossings" are compatible with Bachmann EZ-track? (I've seen half a dozen brands including Tyco, Revell, Pemco, etc...??? If anyone can tell me, it would be much appreciated.

***Jerry, congrats on the Excellent deal. Wow!

Rob, If your looking at the older crossings they are all pretty much the same.  You would need some kind of transition track to attach to the old school track.  You probably already kknew that but I figured I bring it up anyway.

I've done this before with EZ-Track and some old Life-Like Power-Lok automatic rail crossings. I would trim the ends of the Power-Lok track and the EZ-Track so they were flat and there was enough rail protruding from the Power-Lok section to reach the rails of the EZ-Track section. I had to add another rail joiner to connect the two sections as the Life-Like track uses those funny looking clips that connect sideways.

Hi y'all!

The diner is slipping to the bottom of the page. Can't let that happen.

The muscle relaxer  prescription for my back is swell, even if it makes me a little loopy. BUT the pain killer script is not doing it's j-o-b. Darnit. FOrgive typos abd errors if I make them as I can;t get them straight before I post.

Thanks to all those who wish me well. Yes. Todd, we tend to put up prayer candle for those in need. WIth the number needing prayers here and in real lifde on demand, we pretty much burn one once a day. As I said before we really do do it, it's not just a saying. Should light one for me as well, I guesss.

WEll, I'm back off to bed-y-poo for a nap-py-poo. Talk at you all later.

Sawyer, I meant to congratulate you on your test scores and you choices for classes yesterday.  You will have a busy year taking some difficult classes, but you will be better off for challenging yourself!

Thanks! I'm hopefully going to go Aiken-High-Clemson-Architecture job, but hey, that could change, lol. But I'm definitely going the Aiken High leg; might end up changing either the end result or the college, but I'm definitely going to do my best to get into college.
