This is the first time I've been able to get on here in the past 24 hours. I'm using Google Chrome at the moment. IE says 'Page Not Found' and Firefox says 'Redirect Error'. Started work on a AHM/Rivarossi Amtrak 85' flat end observation car. Unfortunately both truck retainer pins snapped off while I was trying to remove the trucks. I'll have to drill out the holes and tap them for screws. The car will be stripped, the molded on diaphragm will be cut off and the car will be repainted for MoW service. I'm thinking about fitting a couple of sliding doors into the sides of it. In other layout related work I've started work on correcting some faults on the Freezee Ice Cream shop. Whoever put it together put the side entry doors in backward with the external detail facing the inside of the structure. It wasn't easy but I got the doors off with little breakage. I'll have to do some filing and sanding but I believe I can get the structure back into serviceable condition. I couldn't find any usable info online about this kit, things like who made it, when was it made, etc. I think these two items should be enough of a challenge for now. I'm still recovering from my hospital stay.

Evenin' all--Chloe-I'll have a BBQ Rib dinner and a RBF please.Dinner I'll be at the back readin' some of those mags back here--my, isn't the place much cleaner--and I see PC took the catapault away--nice--it'll keep the pie tosses down and hopefully we won't be attracting the local constabulary to our establishment.Whistling

Well, interesting drive home tonight --sun---snowsquall(can't see a dang thing)--sun---oh nuts another snowsquall--back to sun---- and 3 cars in the ditch in one place. Do the cellphone 911 thing--make sure ppl ok--they are good---get to LHS in time to pick up more styrene and find RS2 still there--pick that up as well. Then I find a Goodwill store nearby so I check it out and find a 2 volume set of John White's THE AMERICAN RAILROAD PASSENGER CAR in hardcover!? Pick that up PDQ. WhistlingSmile,Wink, & Grin

Now that I'm home I'm going to spend a bit of time playing with 'Spring' who is trying to step all over the keyboard now

Just gotta hold the shell upside down when I'm painting each part.

I think I'd paint the black and green first, then do the white last. IF the white bleeds anywhere, it'd be a lot easier to touch up rather than having green or black leaking onto the white.

My half-a-cent's worth of opinion. I've started shooting the green first on my CNW stuff. I finally figured this out after trying to clean GREEN off of yellow several  (too many) times.

OK, so I'm a slow learner...at least I'm a learner!

Chris

I'd spray everything white, because white won't cover green or black well, then the green, when the white dries, because I can leave the shell right side up (important to mask), then when the green is dry, mask and spray the black. This way, the colors cover evenly, and everything looks good.

Lee-the first unit will be painted when I get both the paints and an airbrush

Sam-I might make a tutorial on painting it. hey, that would be a good MRN article too. Thanks for the idea Smile

Morgan-thanks for the tip on masking

Todd-thanks for the compliment

Ryan-Thanks for the congrats

Barry-thanks for the compliment

ok, so I cleaned up the black, and also painted one version w/ black handrails etc.

AAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've been gone for only two days! THere's a new diner and it already has 10 pages. This will take forever to catch up..........

My boxcar came, I guess on Saturday while I was away (snowboarding). I ran it for a while after school today, and I LOVE it! Great detail, runs well, amazing. When I saw one of these cars recently, it was spotless, so I'll weather it lightly when I finally get an airbrush.

We get out at 12:05 tomorrow (parent conferences) and Wednesday (Ash Wednesday). Plenty of time to do homework (term paper for Theology is done, it was due today [hard copy and to TurnItIn {website that checks for plagarism, doesn't exactly work and is really annoying}]). And, of course, run some trains.

Have a great afternoon. Prayers for all in need.

Good afternoon gang!  I received my Digitrax DH163PS from Litchfield Station today, got it installed in my NJ Transit F40PH!

I also got the track plan center lines and switch outlines drawn on the foamboard!!!  Now I just have to figure out how to hold the cork roadbed down while the adhesive dries/cures (am I able to just use thin nails on angles or what? Suggestions are very welcome PLEASE!?!)  Hopefully I can get this part of the project done in the next day or so.

Phil, thanks for putting the catapult away!  I was worrying about having to avoid the authorities based on the fact that I was "blamed" for the initial food fight in the last diner!

[Qoute]Sam: How large is this VAN?  I would think the 1.5 mm led would be your only hope.  Quicker electronics has a rotating beacon LED but I think its 5 mm.

Lee: It is not very big, I am going to be ordering the Digitrax DZ125, it is smaller than a dime, yet offers several features that I plan on using with the Step Van!  I want to add head-/tail-lights and a working "Strobe".

In regards to the Step Van, I might even go so far as to add some styrene inside the van to represent the prototypical wall that is located right behind where the drivers seat would be, this way I'll be able to effectively hide the decoder, the LED, the fiber-optics that will be used for the head/tail-lights, and also the wiring for the strobe-light.  I'm also considering installing a driver w/ seat!  Not quite sure about it though! (NH&I actually has, or had, one.   I saw it in the satelite photos!)  I also plan on purchasing a Trackmobile, there is one on another satelite photo I have recently come across!  But the trackmobile will have to wait a while, as I am trying to get the GP-30 and the C30-7 that I have painted in the NH&I paint scheme.

Amana:  I hope you feel better quick!  I went through something like that and it is definitely NOT fun!

Sam

May He bless you, guide you, and keep you safe on your journey through life!

Ryan; Quite the collection you have going there!!Bow Now, where do you find these? I remember going to the CN station here and actually getting real food there instead of the stuff out of a vending machine---

I've found them at train shows over the years and have been collecting railroad dining menus and such since around 1992 or so. I have a few more but my collection is limited, wish I had more of them now.

Ray, did you know the Coast Guard honors those that advanced to the level of Eagle Scout by advancing them TWO pay grades when they graduate boot camp.  Normally you enter boot camp as E1/Recruit.  When you graduate you are advanced to E2/ Seaman Apprentice.

If you were an Eagle Scout you walk out of boot camp as an E3/ Seaman.

Lee

Yep, I believe that is true for all branches of the military.  I had one of my Eagles several years ago went from High School into the Air Force (became a helicopter mechanic) and he came out of boot camp 2 pay grades higher.  Almost all the High School kids that have worked for me over the years either were (or were soon to be) Eagles.  Every one was a hard worker and a self starter.  If there was something that needed to be done they just did it without my having to point it out.

I got my sister's sweet little kitty cat Whistling fed and watered for the day.  Did some shopping and got home just in time for a major flurry to set in.  I love wintertime, but I am getting ready to have spring appear (and I don't mean Barry's cat either........)

Had a package sitting on my deck from Caboose Hobbies when I got home..... YES!  Opened it up and only 5 of the 10 packs of railbars I ordered were in it.......  Guess I cleaned them out (again).  But that should be enough to get the yard and portion of the layout that will be judged for Merit Points finished.  There was also a Tomar lower quadrant signal that I have been looking for for a while in there as well.  So I can do some hobby work in the next few days!

Chloe I'll have a cup of Hot Chocolate to warm me up, if you please. I'll be in the front booth watching the afternoon switching going on.

The one place you never want to hear "OOPS" is in the operating room!

Went to Dr, yesterday. Not strep throat, thank the stars. But he said "tylenol, Chloraseptic Spray and let it run it's course". I could have stayed home and given myself that advice, though.

I do really hope we aren't going to get into pie-throwing here in this new diner. It is so annoying and messy. And it attracts flies!

I might have missed it, but how is Jeffrey doing today?

OOPS! I seem to be at the top of the page, so it's on me!

Good Morning!

Wasn't sure the Diner would still be here after all the "OOPS!" messages last night. I was wondering if maybe somebody had run through the switch, over the derail, ignoring the blue-flag protection; and slammed into it?!?!?!

I'm starting to wonder if there was some nation-wide internet thing going on, we had zero service this morning, and it's spotty at best right now. The local phone co. was supposed to "upgrade" us to a higher level on Friday...still hasn't gotten the job done. I guess flipping a switch, or unplugging and replugging a cable is a major undertaking. Loving Wife is home sick today with a nasty cold/flu combo. IF service isn't upgraded soon, I'll unleash her upon them... a sick wife is NOT a pleasant creature!!!!!!!!!!!

In other news from Clarence, it's about 20-something degrees out, clear blue skies, and no wind. We do have some nice little ice patches, as my little fuzzy buddy Rerun helped me discover earlier. After finishing his morning business, we started heading back towards the house. He sees his good friend Buck across the street and decides to go and say "hi." Keep in mind, Rerun is ALWAYS on a leash when outside. Normally, a little run across the street is fine. Today, I find a nice little ice patch and end up in some wild gyrations and hyper-extensions. I managed to stay upright, but pulled something really well on my right side, from the hip to the armpit. A handful of ibuproffen, and a LARGE glop of "Bio-Freeze" later... I'm feeling fine. Until I see or hear something funny... then I feel like my whole side is being ripped open!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Naturally, the antics of this bunch are causing me mortal pain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe it's a good thing I still have some school board stuff to write, the "distraction" of work may save me from dieing from laughter in here!!!!!!

Stay safe all, and to all a good day!

Morning folks!

I ballasted about 6 feet of track on Saturday, just a little, but at least I did something!

Packers#1

Hey guys, I have an article in the February MRN issue, in the TAMR column. Big Smile

Well, I'm currently writing another article for it, and will probably write a few more today (well, only one I can do w/o pics). Having fun though Smile

have a good saturday ya'll!

Sawyer, congratulations on the article being published! Thumbs UpThumbs Up

JimRCGMO

Garry, - Ryan might want us to 'make a note of that', but he might be afraid it "wood-wind" up getting him in trouble later....

Garry & Jim, sure...I'll make some notes for ya, how about...E,G,B,D,F and a high C too! Whistling

Oh and Garry, nice diner and marching band! I did that too for 6 years, marched in 6 Mardi Gras parades every year and all the football game halftime shows too!  BTW, Mardi Gras day is tomorrow! But actually, today is Lundi Gras!

Happy Mardi Gras!    Happy Mardi Gras!   Happy Mardi Gras!   Happy Mardi Gras!

TMarsh

Ryan, can you make that noise with your Clarinet like my sister made with her sax? You know that noise that makes your eyes bug out, cats run for the hills, dogs pass out and the devil just give up on your soul? She was reeeaaal good at it.Laugh

Todd, sure enuf! I can even get the cobra snakes to crawl out of a basket...Wink

pcarrell

... I'd probably opt to just pay someone a few bucks to do it (Like these guys maybe if you don't have anyone local) if you aren't comfortable tearing this bad boy down completely and then milling on the frame.  There are directions here, but it's a real challenge.  On the bright side, it's a very nice loco and a good puller, so it's a good candidate for the job.

PC, I can vouch for Train Buddy (Like these guys maybe), I've had them install 4 of my locos and they do great work too! Convenient for me too, only about a 10 minute drive from my house.

BamaCSX83

In other news, we're having a new addition to our family, wife just found out a day ago that she's got a bun in the oven!

Congratulations Bama! Big Smile

Well Todd, since I was born and raised down south.  I am one of the people that say pee-can Wink.

I went so look for some trains yesterday since the wifes (soaps) were on.  Well I have to take the long way to hunt now.  The bridge near the house, is rusting bad.  The paper said it will be months till its safe again.  Many people didn't like the bridge anyways.  It was a grate/iron bridge.  So......your car went all over the place while crossing it.

So I took the long way and came across this.  It was a Rio Grande, and repatched engine (blue one), four cars, and a Wheeling/Erie (painted in the Rio Grande paint).  The tracks go to Pittsburgh, and they aren't used that much.  The trains was creaping along the bridge.  I would be as well.

Well I guess I will try to hunt again today.  I like taking videos than pictures.  I gues its the sound, horn, bell, etc.  You can't get that with a picture.

Everybody have a good day!!!

Looks like it's shaping up to be a nice week...... , um....say, why are Ray and Jeff dressed up like Ninja's? Hm. As I was saying looks to be a pretty good week, so I may not get much inside time. I kinda hope so. 40's and 50's with a chance of rain Wed I think.

I vote with Robby on the no thrown Pecan pies (Pee-can for some of you).I would also like to amend that to include Chess or any other pie made sticky and oh so yummy gooey.

Have a nice day

Morni' everyone!

Zoe I'll have one of those big Corn Muffins you have behind the counter and my usual cup of dark roast in a R&GV Museum mug!

Currently 17°F here in the Finger Lakes with a high around 22°F later this afternoon.  Could also see an inch or so of partly cloudy as well.  I have to drive up to Canandaigua every day for the next 2 weeks to take care of my sister's cat, water plants, and generally look after her house while she is in the "Very Far".  I will schedule some other things I need to do in the city while I am already going there.  Have to get my Yaris serviced soon and the dealer is in Canandaigua and I have a Dr. app't on Wednesday so it won't be a wasted trip every day.  Probably will stop sometime at the Michaels Store and pick up some hobby stuff.

I should have some things arriving today from Caboose Hobbies so I will be back at finishing the yard soon.  I have an Eagle Scout coming over tonight with his Father to design the invitations for his Eagle Ceremony.  I always like to help out with that stuff for the local young men who reach Eagle! Wow!!

LSWrr
Ray, I had a chance to look over the pictures of your layout, very impressive!  I especially liked the rail joint detail in your yard.

Thanks you Lee!  Little by little it is getting there.  I still have a lot to do before it gets judged for Merit Points for the Scenery Certificate, but soon.............Smile,Wink, & Grin

Hope all of you hve a great day!

Looks like Rob is having a Hay Day in the new diner, I’m glad you are enjoying yourself!

I didn’t make to the train room this weekend.  I did install pictures in the windows of my downtown buildings.  I have a few shops with no decoration, but you can’t see in the windows anyhow.  Dale said he finished 2 buildings for me. He won an auction on the bay for an engine house and it came with an IHC ice cream parlor and boarding house. I hope tonight to plaster the scratch built fence with advertisements.

I ordered 4 high bass all metal speakers to install new decoders in the two Berkshires and a Tsunami sound decoder in the Mehano Mountain.  Once I perfect my decoder installation skills with these three locomotives I’ll press on to the Rivarossi Mallets.

As long as we don't throw any pecan pies, I don't care Dinner.

I think we might have to add a hose in the diner, for days like this.  Just a quick wash down.

Chamomile tea, please & thanks.

***Paul, that's cool that you get to do some trainspotting while plowing a field. Heck, I would do some of that for free for you if I got to watch trains go buy. The most I see are Harleys roaring by the front pasture, as we are on some Scenic Biker's list.

Never made it down to the train room. Lots of farm stuff to do. Planted a weeping willow and a river birch tree. Tomorrow I have at least 4 fruit trees to plant and it's also hay day. Will be a busy one.

Healing thoughts to those in need.

Have a good night all.

Hi ... I could not get in earlier also. oops.

Earlier I asked: "Who can tell what the brakeman or conductor is saying when he radios to the engineer saying: "That'll do.".?"

Morgan replied: "On the Fairtrain, he was refferring to train moveent. Same effect as stop. Say backing/pulling to couple the train, lining up on the platofrms so the most amount of car doors are lined with the platform, brake release, pulling slack out at night etc. I heard them say it. "

Morgan. You are correct. The brakeman has been instructing the engineer to move a car (or cars) to an exact location. The locomotive has been slowed at the brakeman's instructions to a very slow speed as the location is approached. When the movement is complete, the brakeman informs the engineer with "That'll do." The engineer immediately stops movement of the locomotive. The term "That'll do" is common on railroads throughout the USA.

Happy Model Railroading and no more "ooops".

Howdy! Whooops! (thump bump tumble fall. Stands up brushing self off) Sorry Philip didn't see you and RobbieP crawlin' around on the floor. What's in your hand? Well anyway I heard chocolate pie and boy did that sound good. Two slices please and a glass of milk thank you.

Glad we aren't using the "T" word anymore. I was starting to feel as if I was not American, commiting all those horrible atrocities against the English language. Wait! (stands up, removes hat and faces the Alamo) to be American is to have been kicked out of every country. To stand up for what you believe in .To fight for what is right. To readily and without shame, misspell at our leisure, any word over 5 letters. To go into a truck stop restaurant in your Sunday suit and order chocolate pie and a root beer for Sunday dinner! AND to slaughter the very language that we stole bits and pieces from just about every country in the world.... other than Canada. Yet. I think I'll say........THAT!!! (whew, what a rebel)Mischief

Sawyer nice looking paint scheme. I'm standing behind Lee waiting for those pictures. And Chris is correct it is always easier to cover a light color with a dark one. Unless of course it's one of mine.

By the way, I've decided not to engage in any conversation involving the word "rostrum"

Barry, Good!! I'm glad it wasn't what I was thinking, ‘cause an Armadillo in the closet before the first of March is bad luck.

Bama, CONGRATULATIONS on the bun!!!Yeah!!

Off topic, I spent the afternoon relocating some track. I don't know if I mentioned it before but I made a peninsula, OK I don't like that word either, by using a track plan from MR's "3 plans from a 4X8" or something like that. It was so crowded with track that you couldn't get hardly any structures on there at all. Sooooooo. I ripped the inner tracks out. Made it one outer loop and one siding split in two. Problem is no room for a run around. Oh well guess the plan will have to be altered for the track. Shant be too difficult to justify.

Smack, smack samaack! Great pie! I'd better go wash my face. DON'T eat my pie.

P.S. This was written 2 ½ hrs ago. Couldn't get in til now. And now It's bedtime. Prayers for those in need.

I was having OOOPPSS! battles tonight as well. A wonderful night though--got two elevators built and ready for painting and had no 'Spring' trying to get in my face about what I was doing so I'm a happy camper.

I'll have a cup of chamomille tea please--I'll be at the back going through those mags again---Whistling

Spent quite a bit of time working on the electric on the layout today.  Assembled a bunch of CDs and packed them for mailing and got all the cases of CD jewel cases and trays put away in the back room as well.  Tomorrow will be more of the same..................  This week I have to get my taxes done!

Hope all of you have a good evening.  Prayers for all in need!

Evening Gang: I'm getting alot of OOOPS tonight. Since they are on other topics besides the diner it can't be us.

I spent another day plowing. Back and forth, back and forth. Very entertaining. At least the field was next to the UP tracks so I got some train watching in. One went by with six units on the head end. I have no idea how many cars were in the train but it was long. Usually if it's a heavy train they will put a couple of units on the rear end as distributed power. One of the units was a lease unit the others were UP.

Right now I have a head ach and the OOOPSes arn't helping.

I'll say Good Night All and head for bed.

I got one on the diner, but it's in all the threadss. I got one just trying to open the forums.

Speaking of "that" ....... Who can tell what the brakeman or conductor is saying when he radios to the engineer saying: "That'll do.".?

On the Fairtrain, he was refferring to train moveent. Same effect as stop. Say backing/pulling to couple the train, lining up on the platofrms so the most amount of car doors are lined with the platform, brake release, pulling slack out at night etc. I heard them say it.

Sawyer, I like the scheme. Second the good lucks trying to get a good curve. I suggest cutting yourself a template by taping several pieces of masking tape on their sides and ends wide enough to drape over the hood. Draw your line on the tape with a curved surfac, then cut it with an X-Acto. When you lose the tackiness on the masking tape, just tape it down to the loco with tape on the edges.

Well, where the heck do I start???  I left this morning, very late last night actually, and I come back to find THREE new pages!!  What is up with THIS?  THIS will be the death of me, I almost have to claim THIS as an unpaid part time job!!!

Look at what I have to do to keep my mind straight with all the stuff I have to respond to!!!

Yes, that is a keyboard for my Palm Tungsten E2...  That is the only way I can stay sane and attempt to write anything longer than a simple sentence (DERN I USED *THE* WORD!!!)

I got the extruded foamboard glued down and trimmed today:

Luke:  I am familiar with soldering, though I have not done any fomridable projects since I was in junior highschool (I put together my own am/fm radio kit, where I had to solder in all the circuitry)!  If you look at it closely and read the directions, it really is not very comlicated, the hardest part of the project is learning how to read the dern diagrams and what the different symbols mean!  I still don't know exactly what I am looking at when viewing those schematics...

Eric:  I was wondering what your plans are for those GP-30's (If you are planning on painting/weathering and selling one, a certain person who shall remain nameless [stop pointing at me people] woud be willing to pay quite handsomely for one in New Hope and Ivyland livery with DCC installed???) if that might be feasible please PM me???  Thanks

Flashwave:  There is a local trucking company (I KID YOU NOT PEOPLE) called A. Duie Pyle, and I belive that in your model world they are looking into having their own private car!!!

Don't believe me?  Here is their web site: http://www.aduiepyle.com/

Robbie P.:  Now put those pies down!  We are enjoying this new diner, and read the sign on the wall:

"NO FOOD FIGHTS, ANYONE CAUGHT WITH PIE CATAPULT IN NEW DINER WILL BE STRAPPED TO THE FRONT OF THE NEXT HIGH SPEED LONG HAUL TO ABUDABBI"  I think Chloe means business too!  Look at the size of the shipping conatiners out back!?!

Packers:  AWESOME look for the paint scheme!!! I wish you luck and would love to see photos of the project throughout the process, please?

WHEEEWWWW!!!  I didn't think I would be able to get this thing done!!!

Sam

May He bless you, guide you, and keep you safe on your journey through life!
