ugh, I have to read a book for math (yeah, don't ask, I'm not sure how to explain it), so probably going to go do that in a few minutes or so.

AmanaMedicPackers#1 Hey guys, I have an article in the February MRN issue, in the TAMR column. Well, I'm currently writing another article for it, and will probably write a few more today (well, only one I can do w/o pics). Having fun though Hey, that's GREAT! Congrats to ya, as that is quite an accomplishment. Since you're now a PUBLISHED author, maybe I oughta send some of my school board meeting articles to you to finish up for me. Two things: 1) gotta be done by Friday morning, and 2) you can't use the word "that" unless it is in a direct quote. My editor forbids "that." She's weird that way... Congrats again, Chris

Jim, there's also that. Ugh, I just keep swinging back and forth between different things.
Afternoon, Flo - gee, a guy does a little laundry and stops by H-L on the way in to the Diner, and they move the place on me! (And manage to post four more pages while I'm gone!) About like Ray's barber - don't take too long gettin' in, Diners... I'd best just have a RBF for now (Psst! Flo - are they trying to tell me something? I took a shower and all, I promise!).
Guess we just have a bigger crowd coming by the Diner now, 'cause we already had weeded out most of the photos and stuff. Whatever... a leaner and trimmer Diner, eh? I can see it now - three or four years from now - Elliott's Trackside Diner XXXXIX... (And poor Bergie with grey hair from ridin' herd over this bunch...)
Ah, and a to Mary Ann from us, Paul! Did she enjoy her birthday celebrations last night?
Colby - sorry to hear about your uncle, and I hope they can make him as pain-free as possible while he's still here on this side of things. He (and you and the rest of the family) are in my It looks like you have been getting a lot done on your layout, from those pics!
Jeff - good to see you're back home again. Now, stick to the stuff you're better at (model railroading and putting up those fine pics)! I like your idea for handling those who want to give you advice on what you should do about the gravel. Love that little ice cream stand - can you tell who makes/made it? It's cute!
Sawyer, you could build something with four 2'X4' sections that you could take apart when you move out, and still use them as a start on your next layout in the new place. Lets you make your effort count more in the longer run.
Garry, I'm sure there are a lot of people out there who can use those finance lessons (whether more recently, or maybe needed them for a while). Good for you and your church to be offering that. PM'ed you also. I'll have to take a look for your heavyweight diner photos in WPF.
Ray, let's just say, I'm glad that I am not that vetinarian having to 'solve' (or diagnose) the cat's problem... Maybe you just need to find some metal gauntlets for putting her cat in the carrier? From the sounds of your UPS order (rim shot here...), I'd say you must sell a fair amount of those musical recordings. Nice haul from the train show.
pcarrellGuess we were crashing the forum again! I was getting the "Ooops" message earlier. Seems this new software has a good look to it on the surface, but it can't take much hard use.
Robby, don't let the new decorations and paint job fool ya - this is the old Diner, just got locked up and moved to another track. It does confuse some of our patrons who wake up with the Diner being dragged down the track... The twins have gotten so used to these moves that they had stronger magnetic latches put on all the cabinets so the dishes don't come tumbling out when the switcher bumps a little hard during the move. You know how to ballast? Hey, great! - I'll call you in when our MRR club gets going on ballasting our tracks. I figure we have a couple hundred feet of mainline and sidings we'll need some help with.
Speaking of my Hobby Lobby trip (remember way back at the start of my post here?), I picked up a package of deadfall and a second package of 'assorted skids'. This one, I'm going to just weather a bit so the skids look different from the one I bought before.
Mitch, good to hear from you again! How're you and Dawn doing? How's her business been doing? Okay, I hope. Best wishes on your progress on the layout. Drop by when you need to catch your breath from work.
So, Todd - are you saying that after we built our Plasticville motel and pool, it drives us to drink (or building a place to have something to drink)?? Oh, since you like C&H, here's a quotation for you:
“I love Saturday morning cartoons. What classic humor! This is what entertainment is all about... Idiots, explosives and falling anvils.” - Calvin
Rob, you could start out with one mainline (and maybe have the turnouts in place, but wired shut to the main that is there...) and add the second one later as funds permit. On your wife's idea, if you have a Small Business Admin. office or university extension nearby, they often have some kind of help for those wanting to start up small businesses.
Bill T. - back when your photo of the track gang was taken, was a black hat sort of like a 'union card'? I notice that they all seem to have one.
Lee, you'd be surprised on all the stuff that Vinnie helps the twins with for maintenance at night when there aren't many of us in here. [ditto] on how you feel about lack of documentation - in MRR stuff, or (my pet peeve) only providing a PDF electronic version of the docs....
Jeff - I hope that photo isn't of where you put all the gravel (ballasting track at 1:1 scale? Not a good idea...). No wonder you wound up in the hospital, in that case!
Galaxy, I see you're enjoying the 'benefits' of home ownership... Best wishes and for your appliance-shopping.
Chris, love your form of the "NWS" abbreviation - I'll be thinking of it when our NWS local prognosticators are giving their spiel on the evening weather (and chuckling to myself each time...).
You know, Diners, I was thinking - maybe Bergie and the crew could request a bailout for 'disaster relief' due to the forum software....?
Garry, - Ryan might want us to 'make a note of that', but he might be afraid it "wood-wind" up getting him in trouble later....
DerJohn sent me a story that cracked me up - I'll post it later tonight, if he hasn't by then.
Eric, nice shots from the show - I like that Roberts Printing Company kitbash on the one module!
Well, I need to grab a back table - got to figure how much money I have after I pay bills (it's payday today), and then see if I can get that digital camera today or not.
Prayers continue for those in need of them (which would be most all of us Diners).
Blessings,
Jim in Cape Girardeau

have a good saturday ya'll!
Gooooooooooooooood Afternoon coffee shoppers!
I got home a couple hours ago from the Greenberg Train Show in Henrietta, NY. Nice show, not terribly big, but a good range of scales and products. I finally got my Christmas Present from my youngest son there... last November he ordered me an embroidered shirt from the museum I belong to. It finally arrived 3 days ago and I picked it up at the show at the museum's table. I also found 3 Pfaudler American Milk tank cars (Walther's undecorated). They have been out of production now for a year or so and have become hard to find. One of the exhibitors had them marked down to $22.75 - list is 27.98, so I grabbed up all the undecorated ones. Hopefully I can find some decals for them (Dairymen's League, Bordon's, or Sheffield Farms) and the right color paint........???? Bought another book about the "Old and Weary" at the museum table as well, so I had a pretty good morning.
The guy I rode over to the show with brought along his 15 month old grandson. He absolutely loves trains and is a real cute little guy. He loved the layouts!
The sun, against all odds, has decided to keep shining today. Actually up to 31°F outside and only a light breeze.
Hope all of you are having a great weekend so far!

We'll get there sooner or later!
Flo! A burger and some onion rings please, oh a Dr. Pepper?
Just came back from the WGH show. I was a bit disappointed, not many vendors. The big names were there; Lionel, MTH, Athearn, Atlas, Bachmann, Woodland Scenics. Kalmbach had a table but no people, just a flyer. Maybe they slept in late. The poor Walthers guy, someone is waving pre- production pic of what I think he says is a D&RG caboose model and wanting to know when it's coming out. I have to admit, Walthers isn't much on product info, but come on!
The Woodland Scenics booth was nice. The Learn To KIts were $10 each. The rock mold alone retails for more tha that and the kit comes with the plaster! I picked up the water kit.
Athearn had the Turbines on display and for RTR they aren't all that bad looking. Now I'm not UP or Turbine specialist,I also don't know if hte model meets scale length etc. but the very thin separate handrails on the roof and the tender are pretty impressive. No, the cab door rails are not separate but the loop at the bottom is also very fine. Also, the vents are painted not see-through but then this is RTR. Not a bad model for the pricees I've seen.
The Lionel set up was impressive, lots of display items and several towers with small sets running complete with smoke.
The kiddy stuff was separated from the rest of the show, thank goodness. There were quite a few layouts of all scales including several Z scale modules, a few N scale and a couple of HO. A group from Corpus Christi (Great Western?) had a nice HO thing going.
I guess that's enough words for now. Later, Eric
Jerry ... Sorry to learn you can't get to Matton show this year.

Good afternoon all,
It's 20-something here in Clarence, we got maybe an inch of snow, but strong winds are blowing, drifting, and making it miserable outside. I was going to go to a storm spotter class put on by the National Weather Speculators, over in Marion, but decided I don't really feel like 40 miles of blowing, drifting snow on the roadways.
Think I'll have a double bacon cheeseburger, huge thing of fries, large Coke...then settle into a back corner table.
Stay SAFE, and best wishes to all.
Iiiinnteerrrrneeeett iiissss sloooooow toodaaaaayy.
Heading into town to run some errands so gotta run. But I think I'll snag a piece of that cherry pie. Unless G needs it for energy on the appliance shopping.
Jerry, we must be just above the snow line. Stay outta the snow. Sounds like it'll be gone and soggy next week.
Eric, It does kinda turn you off with the tones people give about their feelings toward the hobby. None like that show up in here though. I'm like you. Just happy to be "playin'" I do have great admiration for those prototypical types. Great stuff and very impressive. I'm just not that "In to it" I guess.

Jeffrey Isn't it always amazing how when one is in the hospital needing rest to heal that it is the last place one gets any actual rest???
Has been Back to winter here, though not much snow really. Just cold again.
But as Howmus said, The Sun IS shining!!!!!!! Hooray!
Going shopping today, I think. Look at new dryers and stoves. We bought a new washer for Christmas, but now the dang dryer and stove are crapping out on us. If it's not one thing, it's another.....
Theres still some cherry pie leftover from what I baked, so if anyone wants some, step right up, else we will eat it all.

Chloe, an omlet with ham please? and a decaf? Thanks.
Mitch, Don't know the situation but like I said to Colby, enjoy the time with your relative (your mom in this case). Let them know how much you really love them, no matter the past. Sometimes that realization comes too late. My dad was never able to express he love towards us until 2 days before his passing. The odd thing was it only took 6 words that we had longed to hear over 44-52 years....to know how he really felt...... "I really do love you kids"..... Two weeks later it still makes me cry.... Yes, REAL men cry.. those that say they don't are either liars, or are emotionally unstable.
Just came back from sneeking a look at the WGH room at the expo center. Not a huge setup but I could see the big name stuff and the rows disappeared into the back. To the right inside the entrance I saw what looks to be a very nice HO modular layout with an intermodel train waiting for action. From what I could see the layout has some nice scenery. To the left was a large scale layout. Couldn't see much except for a 3 track line curving towards the wall. Possible photos? I lost the cable for the Minolta DSLR but I have the Kodak with the SD card that fits the laptop. I'll try.
It turns out that my friend down here used to love running Lionel as a kid during Christmas and she still seems to enjoy the idea. She said their 'Christmas' layout ran from October through February. Lionel has a nice manufacturers display from what I could see so maybe she'll humor me during my drooling and gawking at all the neat HO stuff.
A little on topic, a little off. A nice balance I'd say. I was reading other threads before and some those writers......I'm happy if my trains look good, run well, and don't derail. I understand the desire for scale appearance, speed, and performance, and rightly so. We spend tons of money for these products and have certain expectations, but the tone isome of them were taking turned me off....

Mornin', Let's see it's Saturday so, how about a bowl of Sugar Coated Sugar Bombs(from Calvin and Hobbes, a name I use for any number of sugar coated breakfast cereals. Today I refer to Sugar Frosted Flakes Grrrrr), an English muffin with plum jam and a cup of coffee, no make it the whole dern pot. It's gusting a cold wind here and I just don't feel like getting out for a bit.
Mary Ann
Rob, I wish you GREAT luck with the business. That would be fantastic if work could be at home!
Garry, cool video.
Barry, If you haven't figured out what to do with your window dilema. There was this guy in the Jun '08 issue of MR that built a large repair shop for the AT&SF and he used felt tip perm marker. Looked good in pics, though I don't of course know how it would look in person. See, if you were in HO then you could use the ribbing from the metal roof sold by Evergreen prods. BUT, just might be a tad big for N scale.
Or N-gauge as a customer in my FLHS continually called it. He claimed to be an old HO modeler, but time got in the way, etc. and now he wants to get back into MRR and space dictates N-gauge. Everyone was quite helpful with him. But no one corrected him so I kept my mouth shut also. They knew what he meant. I recall I used to call it that on my first go around with MRR. It wasn't until I started to get back into it that I read the truth. Was told many old HO people used to call it N-gage out of habit more than ignorance because of the similarities in terms. I said, "yeah, that was me too"
Lee, sounds like a pretty good deal. Though you sound a bit like me in that I like to get all documents with the purchase and not have to go here and there to get it. Old fashioned I know, I guess I'll just have to get used to it .
Got to do a bit of stuff for the wife. BECAUSE I CHOOOOOOSE TOO! Not because of some HD list. It's merely an organizational list of items that I would have come up with anyway, so she's helping me out by helping me remember things. She's a keeper. Then off to Toddland (of which I'm king) Might end up in the FLHS today as my printer needs ink and that side of Springfield is where all the places that carry the stuff exist. Apparently the North end of the city doesn't do anything but eat and go to Wally-Mart. Probably haul a load out for Mom. Oh well. Have a good day all.
Mornin, an irish coffee n the farmers special please Janie. Had a little problem finding the new place. I'd wager the mail man sure has problems with all these changes of address lately.
Weather guessers had forecast 1" to 2" of snow and maybe some freezing rain, and windy for here, they've missed so far. It 36 n cloudy, no snow or rain, but it's kinda windy out.
COBY,, sorry to hear bout your uncle.. All of you are including in our thoughts.
MITCH your mom is also in our thoughts.
JEFF, good to have ya back again.
FERGIE,,,, good to hear your still alive any way. Don't be such a stranger.
RAY / BARRY,,,, when I was bout 11 or 12, we had a half growed, full blood bobcat kitten show up in the barn at milking time along with all the other cats. I was the only one that he'd let handle him with getting a bite. I never did figure out what happened to his mother, but he hung around there for bout year.
Well I best gets round, got plenty going on today. Mothers gotta choo choo cake to finish up for a birthday tomorrow, and me, I've got some chores ta get done [and there's also a truck race on TV this afternoon]. Also hoping to get up to the Mattoon swap meet.

Yeah, glad to be out of that place. As for the gravel moving operation, I'm not touching it with a 10 foot pole! My father is talking about working out something with my nieces boyfriend to get some of his friends together and get the rest of it done. Went to LHS to pick up 2-8-4 #759. The good, bad, & ugly of these new Bachman locomotives:
Good: At $126 each you get a quiet DCC locomotive with enough detail parts to make a statement on your layout. There is little difference in the locomotives performance when running light or with a 20 car drag behind it at 0% grade. The locomotive has directional amber LED headlights and quick disconnects plugs between the tender and cab of the locomotive. All the DCC equipment is in the tender, removal of 4 screws located on the bottom of the tender allow easy access to everything inside. The DCC chip is a 28 step speed control generic chip plugged into a NMRA 8-pin card.
Bad: The documentation that comes with the locomotive is short and sweet. There is an exploded diagram, and warranty information. There is a comment that the headlight is controlled by F10 and dim is controlled by F1 and the address is 03. If you want to know more you can visit the Bachmann web site and download the data sheets for their Spectrum series. If you want to upgrade this locomotive to a sound DCC decoder you are on your own. No upgrade information is on their web site or the documentation.
Ugly; there is a speaker mount on the bottom of the tender with pre drilled holes and a shallow well for the speaker; however the ballast weights block this on my version. The circuit board and the decoder are mounted to the top of these weights so I’ll need to adjust a few things to accommodate the speaker.
On a pleasant note upgrade to sound is simplified by their use of the NMRA-8 pin card and Bachmann is using the Tsunami sound decoders in their Spectrum series. I bought a Soundtraxx DCC w/sound decoder equipped with a NMRA plug for $65 from my LHS (678-820113). Speaker will cost about $8 for a good one.
On the Bachman web site I could not find a Berkshire with sound, but most of their locomotives with sound run $300 to $500 each. If all goes well I’ll have a sound Berkshire for a total of $200. This works well for me since I can do the upgrade when I have the funds.

Good Morning-It's Saturday and the household is all energetic--s'posta get about 6" of snow today but right now it is sunny but -12C outside. Oh well. We're going to get winds of up to 60kmh tonight and tomorrow as well which will make for interesting times driving.
I'm going to actually get some work done around the house AND layout this weekend. I thought I'd be taking a shift from a co worker who helped me that way but we're going to do this another time---her plans fell through--OOOPPS. Think I'll go and redo some plans for the atrium idea I have and see whether I can work around frame issues----It's looking more like a full scale arcade type of thing.

Mornin' everyone!
Sun is actually shining here in the Finger Lakes..... Don't worry the clouds will be moving in soon, it is only a temporary thing.
Coffee to go Zoe! I am on my way out the door in a few minutes to go to a train show in Henrieta (suburb of Rochester) for a couple hours this morning. Hopefully I won't spend more than I have.
Bill, love the photos!

howmusNo, no, not my cat...... My sister's cat. No way do I feel sorry for that obnoxious little ball of fur. She has one of the meanest personalities in the cat world...... (And the cat is even worse!) Actually I will be taking care of the cat while my sister is in Guacamole, Guantanimo,.......... Guatemala. That's the place, Guatemala. I am very, very glad my sister got to take the little feline hair ball to the vets. I don't have thick enough leather gloves to protect me when I would have to put her in the cat carrier
Ray;- when i was a little younger we had a cat--a 25lb pt Bobcat as we found out from our vet--called 'Baby'. Whenever we had to get shots for the fellow we had to stuff him in a birdcage. Reason? You could only imagine. When I got him to the fairgrounds to get the Rabies shot he was in full growl mode. He was not a happy camper--but the vets loved the idea--especially hearing the full scale concert he was gracing everyone with
