Whistling

Good afternoonFellas and Gals .

I know it is late, but I have been busy.  Chloe, how about a couple of coney dogs and a root beer float to float them.

I have been working on a couple of cattle cars ( Train Related ) and then the talk this morning about horses and cows made me think about this story. Hope you all get a kick out of it.

A DEA agent, together with an ATF and an FBI agent, as part of a task force,  arrive at a ranch in western Nebraska .

The agents tell the rancher,  "We need to inspect your ranch for illegally grown drugs."

The old rancher says, "Okay, but don't go in that field over there."

The DEA agent verbally explodes saying,

"Mister, we have the authority of  the Federal Government with us."

Reaching into his rear pocket and  removing his badge, the agent proudly displays it to the farmer.

"See this  badge? This badge means we are allowed to go wherever we wish on any  land. No questions asked nor answers given. Have I made myself clear? Do you  understand?"

The old rancher nods politely and goes about his chores.

Later, the old  rancher hears loud screams and spies the three agents running for their  lives and close behind is the rancher's bull. With every step the bull is  gaining ground on the agents. They are clearly terrified.

The old rancher immediately throws down his tools, runs to the fence and
yells at the top of his lungs.....

"Your badges! Show him your badges!" LaughSmile,Wink, & GrinSmileApproveCoolCowboy

and that's my story and I'm sticking to it................

Well back to the "Wobbly"   Will check back in later.

Johnboy out.

Ray, $3400 on the hobby is a good chunk of change.  I think I'm over $1200 this year already.  Too bad it's not tax deductable!

Jim, That's a bummer about the auction, where was it?

Mornin'......er, uh.....  Afternoon everyone!

Tried to get in here this morning but interruptions kept happening.

Jeffrey, glad you finally got that gravel moved.  And without injuring yourself again.  Take care of that foot!

Is it hunting season?  Almost everyone seems to be armed in here today......Whistling   I guess it's the modern version of the "Golden Rule".  Do unto others as you think others want to do unto you, only do it first! Wink

I did some adding up of receipts last night..... Last year I spent a little over $3400 on the hobby.  Guess I can consider myself lucky to have that much money to be able to spend that.  Oh and that does not include the money spent on the 1/1 sized stuff at the museum.

Got a call from my son this morning (one of the many interruptions) and he needs me to watch my granddaughter for a little while this afternoon.  She has a cold (I probably caught what I have from her....) and got coughing hard this morning and threw up.  So, she is not going to day care today.  On the other hand he still has to go to work.  My daughter-in-law has a doctors appointment at 3PM so I'll only have to be there for an hour or so.  Darn!  DIL is expecting in less than a week, so she could go into labor at any time.  The next week or so may get very busy.

With all that in mind, I best get busy on my taxes!

Catch you all later!

We'll get there sooner or later!

Greetings, all. Haven't stopped by in a while, lots to catch up on.

Had a very frustrating experience yesterday. Spent the morning at a local auctioneer - they were selling off a big American Flyer collection along with a fair assortment of HO, enough to stick around and try to pick a few plums. Well, the auction started a little late, and they started with all the S stuff, selling loco by loco, car by car, on and on. 2 1/2 hours later they'd cleared two of the six American Flyer tables - I had to get back to my day job and left without a single HO item coming up on the block. Was fun watching the S auctions, though. The prices being paid for what were really just cheapish plastic toys were staggering. Individual cars going for $50 to $100+ apiece, not to mention the locos. Thousands of dollars moved off of just those two tables!

Maybe I should hoard a bunch of old Life-Like & Bachmann toy trains - put them in a box in the basement and sell them 30 years from now for mega bucks!

Extra Large UNION PACIFIC mug filled with fresh brewed coffee, please & thanks.

***Jeffrey, CONGRATS on getting that gravel work done.

***Sam, excellent progress.

***Eric, hang in there! And I'm with you regarding those insane death taxes....crazy & inexcusable!

***Jerry, you are still way ahead of any attempted layout I've ever had. This is going to be my final attempt and I plan on finishing it...or at least most of it while still above ground.

***Todd [Your vehicle's your horse, your stuff that's worth something are your cows] That statement gave me a chuckle, because it's entirely right (most of the time). Horses are recreation that eats up lots of $$$. Whereas Cows can be sold for $$$. I know, there are exceptions to this but as a general rule...

What do you use to strip your paint?

Depends on what I'm stripping off. If it's graphis like logos and such I use non-acetone finger nail polish remover. For a general strip I use alcohol, usually 90%. I use 70% alcohol and a small brass bristle brush to get a peeling paint effect like the one pictured below.

Luke,  Dorothy bought me the Digitrax Super Chief 8 amp and a power supply from them for my Christmas Present and saved $200+ when comparied to my LHS or Walther's.  I just ordered four 8 OHM high bass speakers from them for only $32 total.  You can't beat their prices unless you order 50-100 units. I hope they show up tonight.

Jerry, your town looks good, hey where is the RR crossing signals???  Just kidding it does look good.

Todd, when I was in South TX a guy 2 town over woke up to find someone broke into his truck that was parked on the street, the thief was trying to start the truck.  He shot the thief through the windshield and killed him.  Police & EMS arrived and found out the guy in the truck was trying to repossess the vehicle.

The shooter went to court and was found not guilty; the local church took a collection Sunday to have his windshield replaced and the interior of his truck steam cleaned.

The three years I lived down there nobody tried to steal anything from me or my neighbors.

I placed a second order through Litchfield Station dot com this week and they emailed me asking who referred me to their site because they wish to thank that person.
One of you here referred me to them, but I forgot who.  So if you could shoot me an email with your name and email I’ll let them know.  I don’t know if you’re going to get a discount or what…

I don't think it was me.. But, I had a GREAT shopping experience! Took only 2 days to get to my house. I highly recomend them.

Chris, you forgot the

Banged Head MRR'ing Laws of Layout Planning and Design: Banged Head

  1. There is NEVER 'too much space' for your layout.
  2. The layout design will expand to 125 percent of your available space.
  3. What you think will fit into a specific amount of space, won't...
  4. When you try to build a given design, you will find that it over-fills the layout space.

Good Evening All,

JIM: I knew No. 1 going in, No. 2 worked out to be more like 300% (which is why if I was "smart," I'd switch to Z scale)..., No. 3 was dead-on, and I haven't gotten to No. 4 yet; thankfully.

Ooo! Oooo! I can vouch for No 4.!

Texas law. Horses and cows are property. Your vehicle's your horse, your stuff that's worth something are your cows. Nothings changed except the names. And you know what they did to thieves back then! Just, please don't give a warning shot. That bullets gotta come down somewhere and you could get in a bunch of trouble depending on where the bullet lands!! But if it happens to take out another thief somewhere then, Hey, You'd be a hero! I have a slightly different take on it. If someone breaks in my house. (in this town? Ya, riiiight) and they want to take my stuff. They must take and pay my bills too. Hey I have insurance, so it's new stuff and my bills are paid. Not a bad deal. However, I they won't take the bills, TEXAS LAW.

Rob, congrats on the name change. I guess all it took was a bit more RR room and you got her!

Phinrunt, (quote) "I've never understood why civilization demands that anyone threatened has to become a victim. Makes no sense, never did, never will." Exactly. Why should the average law abiding citizen have to walk around in fear of someone because if he, or she, defends himself then he, or she, could be in as much trouble as the criminal. 90% (just a figure) of homes are unprotected. Not counting the absolutely flawless security systems out there that burglars don't know that it takes time for the process to actually get a police officer there. How eager would you be to go into a home knowing that 90% had ,to borrow a line from Charlie Daniels, a 12 guage shotgun waitin on the other side.

Eric, our thoughts are with you today.

I usually use a couple ones, but if I want thejob to go fast I use a twenty! Oh, wait, your talking about trains... LOL

Eric:  Good luck on the govt' Cow Dung...  I hate taxes, like PA taxes you on your Federal Tax return, which is just overpaid taxes but the state views it as "income" of all things rotten!!!

Well I am off to RS to see what I can see!!!  I might just get the stuff at Wally world as some of you refer to it!!!  Good luck to everyone today!  Let the evening find you home and safe!

Hey all!  Mornin!

Looks like our temps are going to be good today.  Only thing is, you'd best like rain!

Indianapolis, Indiana
Currently: 45°F

Wind: South-Southeast at 7 MPH
Humidity: 93%
Dewpoint: 43°F
Barometer: 30.13 inches
Wind Chill: 41°F

Today: cloudy. Chance of rain showers until midday, then chance of rain showers and isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs around 60. Southeast winds 5 to 10 mph increasing to south 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation 50 percent, or so the weatherman says.   Looking at the radar reveals a different story.  http://radar.weather.gov/Conus/Loop/centgrtlakes_loop.gif

So, I didn't ride today.  I don't have any rain gear yet, and I could use some new tires on the bike.  Today I'm rolling in the van......my livingroom on wheels.

The wife is doing better this morning, though she was up a good portion of the night.  Long about 10pm she got this burst of energy and she just couldn't sit still.  I dropped off somewhere around midnight.  She was still going strong at 2am when I rolled over.  My bet is, she'll be sleeping til noon!

Sam, looking good!

So whats up with you?

At least I'll get to hit the LHS again...See if my 44 tonners are in.

Jeff; sent you a PM, when you get a chance. Thanks

Good morning. I'll have the bacon and egg breakfast with a large stack of pancakes and some oj.

It's a pleasant 61 here and most cloudy. The high will be around 77 and it will be partly cloudy. A lake wind advisory is in affect for this afternoon.

White caps were rolling on the lake yesterday and some nut was out there trying to get some fishing done. He finally gave up. The gravel work is done! My neighbor (niece's boyfriend) showed up yesterday afternoon accompanied by a big burly friend and they got the shovel work done quick considering the gravel had to be moved about an 1/8th of a mile. They then set the felt paper on top of the gravel like I wanted it done. I'll be buying him a couple of 12 packs of his favorite beer this weekend. That's the least I can do. I called the old boy with the track hoe and left a message that I was ready to have the ditches filled in. That's a major project completed. Got to go see the foot doc today so he can poke and prod my feet a bit. After that I'll be going to the post office to send a loco back to a friend who sent it to me to have some work done on it.  The requested work was done in less than an hour and I replaced a few broken items I found in it as well. No way was I sending him back a broken loco even though it arrived here that way. He was pleasantly surprised that it was done so quickly. Got the Amtrak 85' observation car stripped yesterday and repainted primer gray. Next thing to do on it will be to cut the holes for the sliding doors to fit into and mount the rails for the doors to mount on. The doors won't actually slide but they'll appear to be able to do so.

I believe this is what the person saw when he looked in your back door this morning!!!

Chainsaw LOL!!!   I'm very glad it turned out the way it did... Thank the Lord it wasn't worse!

GMTRacing
Sam - did you decide which of the switching layouts you'll use? How about the feeder and bus issue?

I decided to go with the lower layout in the picture:

But, I don't have enough switches/turnouts to complete the entire project, so I just got the "paper mill" trackage down, and will finish the rest of the trackwork when the budget loosens up a bit!

(WHAT THE HECK!!! I HAVE EDITED THIS THREAD FIVE TIMES NOW AND CAN'T GET THE PICTURE TO GET ANY SMALLER... I have made it so small that I can't even tell the difference between the lines.)

I finished the gluing the track down earlier today.  So after dinner I got most of the joints soldered!  I riggged up the Bachmann EZ Command Control system and actually ran trains!!!!

Toy Train

Here's a photo!!!

Passenger Service has Begun!!!  (it's not really in the plan for the layout to have passenger service, but, I wanted to see my Bachmann Spectrum Pennsy Diner run on the rails!!!

The house I am living in right now contained ONLY the white pushpins you see in the photo.  I had to use the sewing pins to hold the foamboard an the trackwork in place!!!  My fingertips are rather sore, let me tell you!

I am going to try to make it to radio shack tomorrow to pick up some 16AWG wire to run the bus and feeders, right now the controller is just hooked up by wrapping the supplied wires around one length of track...  I can run any one of my engines on almost all of the tracks... except for the middle spur on the left and the lower left corner of the mainline!  That is because I didn't do a fantastic job on the joint soldering...  That will all be fixed when I get back with the wire for the feeders!  All I have to do is replace the horn/hook couplers on my rolling with knuckle couplers and I'm golden!  Scenery will be added later,   as I want to have something to work on during the weekends!

Is it me or have I been long winded lately!?  I am sure it is because I have FINALLY built my own layout, and have gotten trains running!   YYYYYIIIIIIPPPPPPIIIIIIIIEEEEEEE!!!!!!BounceRoll

Oh, ahem, ok, sorry, got a little carried away there...  Chloe, can I have two slices of Apple Pie and a LARGE Hot Fudge Sundae along with a Giant RBF, please?  Thanks!

I'll be over in the corner enjoying my victory meal!!!

EDIT:   I GOT TOP OF PAGE!!!  Chloe, give everyone that comes in a Victory Meal, my treat!!!!

So I come back after a year or so away and the first thing I see is shoot 'em, gun 'em, chop 'em?!?!?!?

Good to see common sense- a mis-nomer if there ever was one- still resides here in the Diner.

I've never understood why civilization demands that anyone threatened has to become a victim. Makes no sense, never did, never will. When I worked the road (back in the day) I pulled my weapon maybe 8-10 times, never had to shoot anyone, but I always thought, and felt, that if it came down to it, I didn't search this person out to do him harm, he absolutely brought it upon himself via his actions, and, as with every sincle thing we do in life, consequences are attached to actions.

Boy, that soapbox is well worn these days.

As for RRing, going to the train show this Sat  in Muncie to buy up some Code 83 switches and Code 70 flex to lay next week!

Good to see all of the old hands still visiting the Diner,.

Tall glass of cool lemon water, thanks.

***Jeffrey, I have a box of Old Time Radio broadcasts which includes a smattering of The Shadow episodes. They're some of my favorites.

***Jim, as you say, be glad it wasn't a transmission. Many years ago while cruising along in my old Chevy van, the transmission literally blew apart. Horrible sound it was. Almost as horrible as the Transmission guy who had just replaced it then I called and told him where to go pick it up.MischiefLaugh

Starting to get a plan in my head for the layout, or at least the tables & shelves. I WILL cut the door/table part into two sections. This will allow more walking around room between wife's Hugely Oversized table and my Normal stuff. Shelves WILL be 24" wide (that was a good suggestion). Will work the trestle into a corner between shelves and perhaps hint at a canyon there. And although I never planned a staging area, there is an ideal location for one. It will include the little Atlas TT and be a nice place to display locos & rolling stock where I can see and enjoy them. That's the plan thus far which is enough to cut wood and glue foam.

My wife made it really offical and changed her last name today. We've been together about 15 years, married 2 or 3Whistling and had an anniversary a week ago (which we BOTH missed), and now shares my last name. How about that!Big Smile

Past time to hit the hay. Healing thoughts to those in need, (especially PC's other half).

Evenin' everyone!

Long day with no model railroading in it.  Did get a good start on the taxes...... Hopefully by the end of the weekend I will be finished and have sent them in.

Dermatologist said everything looks good and then gave me 2 more prescriptions for "milder" stuff to use on the face.

Flo, I'll just have a nice cup of hot chocolate to warm me up.  maybe that will help get rid of the sniffles I've had for the last couple of days.........

Hope all of you had a good day! Prayers for all in need!

The problem with an eye for an eye is that everyone goes blind. SO use your 1 good eye to aim for something else. Big Smile

I'm in no rush, the room is ready whenever I do get something I can live with figured out. Regardless of the track plan/era/location selected, it's going to be an around the walls arrangement. The variations would be maybe a peninsula, or width of the shelves themselves.

Thanks for tips...and the laugh!

Chris
