Last year at this time almost to the day, I wound up in the hospital for over two weeks with pneumonia. I hope not this year. I have a sense of deja vous going on here.

J.R., Ouch! We, and I'm sure you also, are so glad it only shifted 6" Now,.. wooden shoes. Might I suggest one that covers the entire foot. Toes and all. Because if you are only going to be able to supervise and not get in there and help.... Your dogs gonna need the extra protection!.
Rob, personally I'd go for a combo. On the wall side of mine, I bolted (screwed) to the wall on the room side I used legs to the floor on the outside. Works for me. It seems to give a better open space under the layout. And, a sense of strength when I give the unthinking pull on the edge to pull myself up!
Jeff, Glad to hear the ditch is done!(somehow that just doesn't sound right). Hopefully you're just tired from stress relief. You‘ve had quite the couple of weeks with the ditch work the foot troubles and such. Take'er easy for a bit.
But Barry, we've GOT to let these people have a chance. It's not right that a person makes a mistake and has to be punished for it. I mean if we have something and some lazy dope head.... Er....I mean, some poor person needs some money, it's only humane that we allow them to help themselves to our stuff. Well today is that first of three Lenten fish fries we do. Share every other week with Sherman church. It's an all day event for me and my buddy. Only two that are available to set up fryers. We, the MEN, (grunt), cook the fish in the Township garage . After of course the boys 2 of them clean it up. Something a bit redneckish about that now that I see it in print. The women cook and serve in the church halfway across town. (about 5 blocks as the pie flies). I'll bring some in the diner when I'm done.

Good Morning All,
41F and cloudy today with rain forecast for tomorrow. A regular coffee and a helping of crow please Zoe. I have a day off work today as at the end of the day yesterday we had a lathe slip off it's blocking as we were lowering it to the floor in the new shop and it landed on my foot. Broke all 5 toes and after trying to "walk it off" I ended up at the emergency room until 11 last night. The on duty physician called a local podiatrist for advice and suprisingly he dropped everything and showed up 15 minutes later. He was a saint in my book and worked through the mess getting it sorted out while explaining what exactly I'd done. I go in to see him again later today to get the dressing changed and get a better idea whats up. Worst are the big toe and pinky as they took the brunt of the hit (two tons). I've moved lots of machinery and was being careful with my feet well out of the way, but the darned thing slid over 6" sideways right at the end of the job. In thirty years I've never had something like this happen.Oh well, just call me lucky.Catch y'all later, J.R.

Well, after last night's sleep I woke up thinking about spending the day ---after seeing one lonely petunia client--checking out library for a book on atriums and gardens. This way I can sort of root around for ideas--especially for trees---yes, models of specific tree forms. such as that is I checked my Email and appear to have a couple of people already enquiring of my services---Heeheehee

Good morning. It's 70 and quite cloudy. The high will be about 80 and it will be mostly cloudy with a chance of rain. Went to see the foot doc yesterday early in the am and got a good report. The wounds are healing, slowly, but they're healing. In other news, the guy who dug the ditches for my sewage drain field showed up while I was at the doctor's office and filled the ditches in. He did a really good job. There are no little piles lying around here or there but rather it was all smoothed over and compacted. I'll be recommending him to others for sure. Didn't get any work done on the observation car yesterday. I was just too tired. I don't know why but I was extremely tired for most of the day but also extremely restless. I tried to get some rest but try as I might I couldn't get any sleep. It was almost as if I had an IV loaded with caffeine going on a slow drip while in a semi conscious state. I'll try and get back to the observation car today. It's laying here in front of me in many pieces. So is an engine house I got from another modeler. Don't know exactly what I'll be doing with it yet. Anyone have experience with (N) Micro-Ace locomotives? Any good? I bid on one I really would have liked to have, but kinda glad I didn't win it. Still need track more than another loco and I would have had to sell off one of my last remaining diesels to help cover the cost. Maybe down the road.
Worked on the shelf. I know it will be strong enough when I'm done, but I am wondering if free-standing shelf-sized sections with legs (bolted to wall) wouldn't be a better bet? I'm really just winging it as I go, making use of lots of scrap wood.

OK, who turned the diner crosswise on the tracks??? Sure hope the Midnight train doesn't sideswipe her or worse. Probably was from the breeze when everyone ran over to evil-bay to check out those buys.
I actually got everything done that I had planned for today. My taxes are finished. I'll give a quick check tomorrow morning to make sure I haven't missed or messed up anything. Then I'll e-file. Got to babysit my granddaughter for about an hour an a half this afternoon while mom was at a doctors appointment and dad had to get to work. Olivia is getting to be such a cute little girl. She will be 2 in June. My DIL was told by the doc today that tomorrow should be her last day of work for a while. He thinks she should deliver granddaughter #2 sometime next week. The timing is good because as soon as her 6 weeks of maternity leave are over there will be a 2 week vacation at the school where she teaches (A school for troubled high school age kids). That should give her a bit more time to recuperate. My son will be taking 2 weeks of vacation time from his job as well. My sister's rotten cat has almost been acting friendly during my visits to feed her. Maybe she just has been "full of you know what" all these years. Doesn't seem to having any problems at the moment. I cleaned the litter box today........

Been a reaaal looonnng time but I'm back. I have since moved back to Kansas and am now a police officer in Pleasanton. My family will join me when the oldest graduates from high school. I miss the train shop but when there is a calling on your life you have to answer. I have missed all of you and hope one and all are doing well. You have never been far from my thoughts and prayers.

JimRC-When I did volunteer work for this one agency several years ago we were given beepers if we were on weekend duty. I could imagine the--I WISH I COULD syndrome--it lead to all kinds of talk of accidental losses-----
Paul-I remember a fellow down the road from my uncles old farm north of here who used to sit on his side porch overlooking an old apple orchard. He had an old 12 gauge double barrel shotgun that he filled with rock salt of all things. Used to fire the thing in the general direction of kids who would always try to steal stuff from the area of the orchard. We'd see kids running up the road as fast as they could go to get away from the 'maniac' as they'd call him. When he passed away his daughter handed the thing to me and said the'ol' feller' wanted me to have it. We still have it and it still works-----

I was just out with Pippa a few minutes ago and it seemed a little nippy so I checked the weather. I guess it is with a temp of about -20F going down to -30F tonight with a -45 windchill and you can make that either F or C, makes little difference. At least I didn't have to shovel the snow we got a couple of days ago. In the middle of the night I heard the elves out there scraping the driveway with shovels. They are usually very quiet being elves and all but there was a bit of ice out there too so I didn't get too upset that they woke me up.
Barry, it sounds like you've had one of those weeks that you'd like to forget but can't. A large glass of wine for you or any other bevy of your choice and put it on my tab please Chloe.
Not much new on the RR front, I've been slowly working on a hill that I plan to cover as a forest. My layout is too small for a tunnel so I plan to have a "tunnel" effect with the train going through a cut and forest. Well at eye level at least the train will disappear for a few seconds. I did figure out what I had done wrong in an attempt to hard wire a decoder into a Mehano 2-10-2 a couple of months ago. Turns out there is power coming from the tender and that the connector isn't just to supply power to the light on the tender. Oh well, I guess I probably fried the decoder. I also think one of the solder points on the can motor could be shorting to the frame as it is less than the width of a piece of electrical tape from the frame. I may try drilling out a little more space on the frame.

Evening Gang: Well I haven't been in for a day or two. I did some catching up.
Berry I had some tresspassers about 10 years ago that were armed. They were out coon hunting with dogs. I went down to my hay barn where they seemed to be heading and confronted them. I had one in the headlights of my sons truck and tole him that I had a 45 and he was to put down his gun. He said no and I said that I was goning to count to three and then blow his head off. I got to two and he put down the gun then says that he's going to call sheriff and report me for threating him with a gun. I told him fine the sheriff was on the way. The deputy gets here and askes me what was up. I told him and he says to wait there. He goes down, talks to the guys for a bit and comes back. He tells me that he told the guys if I had shot them he would have dumped them into a couple of body bags and wouldn't even bothered to do a bunch of paper work. He calls the two guys to come up and they are all appoligetic and sorry to have caused me trouble. I tell them to leave and don't come back. City people move out to the country and figure that it's open range still. Anyway I keep plenty of fire power on hand and ready. This happens every once in a while and the word gets around that that so and so Beverung is a hard case and they need to leave me alone.

Barry, you would love one of our local judges - a guy got caught trying to break into a pharmacy south of Cape G. and they let him out on bond. WHILE he's out on bond, he gets caught in Cape G., trying to rob a pharmacy of controlled meds. Except in this case, there weren't much of any other people in the pharmacy (and the meds were in a locked area, so the pharmacist goes along with the guy and locks the front door, then says he has to lock the back door. He did, but after he was outside, and then the pharmacist proceeded to call the police, who arrive to find the guy trapped in the store! Our local Cape G. judge (other one was in the county to the south of us) won't let him have ANY bond. Serves the dumb crook right (IMHO)!
One of those days at w**k today for me. First the credit union left a message last night for me to call. I do and it turns out my debit card # was compromised, so they're sending me a new one. Meantime, I can ONLY use it with my PIN (they said if I tried to use it like a credit card (w/out PIN), it would show up as 'fraud alert', and likely get taken. Well, could be worse. Then I get asked to take on some new duties at w**k (which I didn't feel comfortable that it was within my capabilities, so I asked for overnight to think - and pray - about it). They wanted me to tell them right then (supervisor and another admin type), even though they'd only told me minimally about it and only this morning. I declined (hoping I wouldn't wind up getting let go for some excuse of a reason)... Then I check my p.o. box before heading home, and there's a schedule from church for March's greeters, and I'm on for this next Sunday, when I'm the backup on-call (I had earlier this week asked to be dropped from the greeter list because I was having trouble juggling all the other things going on lately in my life). Oh yeah, and the March on-call list has me listed as backup on-call (read those as "You can't plan anything that you can't quit on short notice" days/nights) for 3 of the 5 Sundays in March for w**k. Can I join you there, Barry? Hey, Chloe, just let me have the rest of that bottle and I'll share it with Barry if he wants.
Thank Heaven the weekend's coming (even if I am the backup on-call)... Chloe, you don't by chance give a good back rub, do you?

Well, the son made it back from Amsterdam, Dublin and Hungary. He and the GF had great fun. He said the best part was Ireland. We are Irish, after all.Now the plan is to move to California again. They were living on Maui.Sheesh, I think a long trip is to Minneapolis or West Allis.
I am invited to the local C&NW ROFs breakfast next Friday. The guys are interested in the layout and wanna here about it and possibly come over for an operating session. There's an incentive ,huh!?!

Good afternoon Guys... don't mind the mask, it's just the Wife has had the FLU all week, a nasty upper-respiratory variety. She's now about 60% recovered...and I'M getting it now. Sooooooooo, to avoid infecting you good people, I've got the surgical mask on. Here, I'll stick an N-95 HEPA filter on over that as well.
JIM: THANKS for the tips, and yep, I've taken all of that into consideration...and eventually, will put it into practice. Great thing about this forum in particular, a lot more HELP and a lot less attitude than some other areas in the Kalmbach complex.
I forgot who posted the story about the bull and the feds...good stuff! I'll have to pass it on to my Uncle in Kansas, he gave me sage advice like that many years ago when he had angus bovine on the property.
Another article (or two) to hammer out, a "cocktail" of cold/flu drugs to take...then hopefully sleep. I have a boys' district final high school basketball game to shoot Saturday night. I plan to be there, even if I have to BEG and/or coerce the town's EMT-Intermediate (between basic and paramedic) to start an IV on me (to go).

Howdy all. Went to Castle Trains today (FLHS) and picked up a couple of semi trailers for the brewery loading dock and some styreene, roof details and some brewery stuff (kegs,barrels crates etc) and a couple other odds and ends. When I got home yipee my Athearn PBR box car came in from "the bay". Hope no one minds it's got a roof walk high brake wheel and high sign boards on a modern era. Didn't think so. I didn't notice that when I bid but I wanted it anyway so..... Several other cars are the same also.The train doesn't seem to mind and neither does the dog.
Kinda dreary weather wise but at least it's warm for this time of year 50+ Supposed to SNOW tonight. grrrrrr. Oh well it won't last if we get any at all.

Ahh its afternoon. Nice and warm, well even thou its only 50. Thats good as of lately.
What I have spent on the hobby this year? How does $10,000+ sound. WOW!!!!!! Well I'm not even close to that. It does sound good thou, but I have spent about $250-$500. That's being laid off.
I thought the joke was very good. I have a story on something that is close to that joke, but its a looooong story.
I don't think I am getting the box of train stuff. Thats fine, he said he doesn't think he can get rid of it. I don't want him to get into trouble.
Made some videos for youtube. Videos of the layout, and my weathering bench. Other than that, I haven't done much at all.

Have no idea what I spent on mrr'ing stuff last year, but it was certainly more than I sold off on the-bay. Probably spent more on the wife's HO stuff than my own N, although it was probably close. There are still 2 (N) steam locos I would like to aquire, but I can certainly live without them. More important is creating a place for those I already have to roam free. For me, to keep stuff in boxes is pointless.
Still looking for the best buy on Atlas (N) flex track. That one store didn't accept Paypal or personal check, so they will not be getting my business.
The local NAPA fella had a sign on his shop, "Out To Doctors". Dang, tractor sits without that hyraulic line and I still need to bring hay into the barn and also over to the goats.
Wife took her mom to the Doc today. She just took her dad to see his Doc the other day. Not much else to report on. Back to work here. Rob
