 Mornin' everyone!

It is still cold ouside but has reached 11°F as of a few minutes ago.  I have the wood stove restarted (by morning it is still warm and usually has enough coals left to come right back to life). I see Flo is back in this morning so,  Flo I'll have a  Big mug of dark roast in a FGLK Mug and a bowl of oatmeal with brown sugar if you please.

Eric as you know a lot of us have or are experiencing the same problems with parents getting older.  In the last seven years my family has lost both my parents (Both passed away at the age of 88, the oldest ever in our family).  I hope and pray that both your parents will be around for a long time.  They are lucky to have someone to see to all the needs and stuff that has to be done.  Know that you and your parents are in my prayers!

Dick is how old????  We missed it?  OK even though it is late, all together now........ And sing loud, you know how it is with hearing when you get to that age!

Sounds like you had a good one!

I'll be by the stove eating my cereal and enjoying that Dark Roast Java!

What's that Philip?  Speak up!  My Mug?  Get your own this is my personal FGLK Mug!  Oh a photo of my face?  I can do that.  Here's one of me playing "Sound Man".

Mornin' all!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DICK!!!!!  So how old are you.....like 22? Smile,Wink, & Grin

Terry, glad you didn't get caught up in that nastiness.  My oldest computer, a Windows 2000 Professional unit, brushed off the attack without even breaking a sweat.  My Windows XP computer got nailed to the wall!  Guess the attackers weren't interested in older computers, just the more popular stuff.

Eric, one of the things that make this place a bit more like a community of friends instead of just another forum is the fact that we do talk about our lives and support each other through things when we need to.  Thats what friends are for, and thats what we are here.  You're right though, in that most of us will never meet in real life.  We remain connected through this silly screen that we plant our butts in front of from time to time.  In a way, it affords us some comfort in our anonymity, while at the same time, that anonymity allows us to be maybe a little more open and honest.  This type of friendship is truely a unique thing, and it should be valued as such.  What really matters at the end of the day is that when one of us opens the door to this coffee shop, friends can be found inside........friends who may not be able to do a lot other then care, but let me tell you what.....they do that one thing VERY well.  I'll be praying for you and your family.

Oh, and Eric (and everyone else), we do this from time to time, but it's been a while, so what say we all get to put a face with the name?  If you've got a pic of yourself, lets see what you look like!  Shoot, I'll even go first!

Here's me trying to look like the hat belongs.  What a hilljack!

Disturbing......isn't it? Big Smile

Eric- We are all subject to problems. Fact of life. And it seems to be easier to unburden ones self to others without seeing them. Just know WE all are pulling for you and your folks. We may not be in your shoes but we dang well are along side your footprints.

Dick- I am NOT a R O F.  An O F yes, but putting in over 40 hours a week at a JOB means I'm far from retired. Ah, the GOLDEN lead YEARS .

Prayers for all all best wishes

Good Morning---We are at -18C with the high going to -12C. There was a windchill of -26C earlier so we still are kinda cccold. Note--beginning of shellshock here--getting used to ccccold. Next some people start thinking any temperature above current is a heat wave---Whistling--Anyhooo, the weather for today is for a sun/cloud mix with a 30% chance of snowflurries---Tonight's low will be about -19C.

Eric; We're here for that reason too. We all will have those issues---boy do I remember running around because both parents became sick all at once----not fun.

Chloe, can I have a full breakfast platter and a coffee please? I'm going to sit with Eric by the windows and watch the day wake up---SleepySmile,Wink, & Grin

Morning Chloe.  I see Flo is here for the Sunday shift too!  First one in again today?   I think today is a French toast day, sausage and a decaf please.......  Sure is quiet, nice for a while.  I know some of the gang will be in soon, others after church.

Time to head home and wait.  Funny, people I don't even know and probably will never meet have helped me get through the last couple of weeks and espcially the last few days.  I keep telling myself; 'This is a MRR forum, not a counciling site."  People want to talkm about trains and other fun things, like cats, food, and PIE!!!!  Everyone here has they're own things going on. Jerry is recovering, others have loved ones that are ill, or are themselves dealing with health issues.  I was just so overwhelmed by the apparent sudden, although long in coming, illnesses of both parents at once.  This has become my outlet for my unhappiness, I thank you all for putting up with my daily log.

When I get home and after a walk on the cold, windswept beach of the Jersey Shore, I'll set up that n- scale stuff I bought and run some trains. That 19" radius just might fit on the dining room table.  It doesn't get used much. Right now it's full of HO engines waiting to be assembled and painted. I remembered that I have a NYC passenger set at the parents house, I'll pick that up on the way out.

Well, I'll be on my way, great breakfast Flo. Thanks.  I'll stop by later for a coffee and maybe a piece of cake(?!)

Eric

Looks like I may have TOP, enjoy everyone. Chloe, I'll be back to pay that tab later

Greetings from Springfield, Mass.,

A root beer float would hit the spot just now and did PC leave any of that stashed away pie?

Spent the day at the Amherst Train Show with the rest of the bunch from the museum and had a blast. Also went to the 1/87th scale vehicle meeting which was excellent also with a large assortment of very detailed car, truck, and heavy equipment models mostly scratch built or at least heavily kitbashed. Didn't seen Bob or Dick there but there is always tomorrow. No I didn't avoid temptation so I ended up with a few deals on KD rtr cars and a Stewart U-25B in New Haven colors plus I got my FL-9 and EP-5 out for paint. That should just about do it for now unless I find something I really need tomorrow (which isn't hard to do).

My prayers for Eric and his parents and Paul and Mary Ann and that sounds like good news for you Unc. I'll check in tomorrow when I get back home.   Catch y'all later, J.R.

Dick - Happy Birthday - sorry to read that you won't make the show this year. I save up just for the event so I had some "readies" budgeted and I go anyway for the museum. When will we see some progress pics from the train room? we nosey people are getting curious

Good evening , a cold 7F and dropping steadily here tonight. It will be back to the train room project tomorrow, as the 2009 winter project for the wife is finished!!! Stripped the wallpaper, some plastering, painted the ceiling and walls and closet. Now I can direct my attention to the Train room full time.

My daughter and grand daughter surprised me tonight with taking me out to dinner after Mass to celebrate BD #70. Six decades completed, now I join Flip and John in the ROF's club. As John said: 3 score and 10 years ago, a MRR was born.

Have a piece of cake, I think Sue made it from one of Ryan's recipes. I didn't have enough wind to blow out 70 candles before the cake melted, Duke helped me out and Jeff stood by with a fire hose.

Blessings to all and a peaceful Sunday,

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! The problem at Photobucket has been fixed. The virus was identified and removed.

I for one wouldn't mind knowing who put it there. Vinnie needs some exercise!

I see he's warming up his rubber hose.  Hurts like the dickens, but doesn't leave any marks!

PC; This is what I'd like to use on human specimens that love to make people work hard on doing a simple thingHammer----When did this piece of nastiness show up anyway?---Does Pb know they've been coopted?

Yeah, they figured it out after a couple of hours and got it under control, but not before I got nailed.  And it seems that it was learning and evolving as it went, because those that got hit towards the end, like me, had it automatically installing and downloading itself, whereas those that got hit early were able to just use a popup stopper to brush it aside.  As of now, Photobucket is safe as far as I know.

Flo, I'll take a piece of pie, thanks.

For everyone who was shocked about the throwing out of N scale stuff, It was absolutely worthless. Loco and car shells with no frame, locos with two axles, cork that crumbled to the touch, etc.

But, in this pile of crap, I actually found something useful. It's some saw/knife thingy. It cuts amazingly. I used it to get the back off my F40. Now I don't need to spend $12 on a razor saw and I can actually have enough money to get the styrene, paint, and decals I need for both the F40 rebuild and the station.

Just got back from our hockey dinner and game. At the dinner, I was the undefeated champion in pool and dominated in soda pong (teen version of *** pong). We then won an amazingly tense game 4-2, and we are now 5-2 in the season and 3rd in the league.

Night all.

Evening all from SoggyCal.

Temperature is DROPPING tonight.  Feels like it might hit the '30's around here.  We're expecting more wet weather until Tuesday, whatever's out there in the Pacific has decided to stall and stir around for a while and it's sucking in some colder air from Alaska.  Snow levels might get down to two or three thousand feet in the next few days.  These aren't really STORM storms, but they're steady enough that my lawn is starting to look like the color I originally planted about 40 years ago.  YAY!

Had a neat Mass tonight--we're in the Centennial of the building of our Parish, and tonight we celebrated an all-class reunion of St. Francis School (Grammar).  Naturally, I ran into a whole bunch of students that graduated from there and went on to the two Catholic High Schools I taught at (St. Francis and Jesuit), so it was kind of Old Home Week.  One of my favorite sopranos from choir at St. Francis High was there, she graduated from Monterey Bay University last year and is at Boston College working on her Master's in Foreign Affairs.  She grinned at me and said, "Doc, you never told me how COLD it gets in Massachussetts!"   Ah, travel!  If nothing else, it broadens the Wardrobe, LOL! Tongue

If you've read the General Discussion posts, C&O 2-6-6-6 just posted to find out if anyone makes Missabe M-3 Yellowstones.  Ahah, ANOTHER convert to write to the mfgrs.  Whoopee--we'll ALL get some YET!Tongue

Garry:  Thanks so much for the e-mail.  It was genuinely touching.

DerJohn:  Thanks for the Revelstoke photos.  Hopefully by Tuesday or Wednesday we'll be replicating them up on Donner Pass!   And that cat-----!   I don't DARE show that photo to Remington or Spooky (or my little boarder Wiezl).

In fact, DerJohn and Barry:  Not to denigrate dogs at all (because I like 'em), but have you ever noticed that Dogs have Owners and Cats have STAFF?   And how come when you call a Dog it comes right over to you, and you call a Cat and they e-mail you telling you they'll get BACK to you?

Speaking of, Wiezl just hopped up on the desk and gave me an "I think I love you for the next week or so, can I stay?  I mean you feed that real big fuzzy one REAL TUNA!" look.  Hoo Boy Whistling

Eric:  Continued prayers for your parents.  And continued prayers for all of you.

Evenin everbody. Just a Dr Pepper please. I ate at a buffet and, ugh, am I stuffed.

PC- also superantispyware.com is good and free also. Try them both. That one killed some wild adware browser hijacking filename changing thing I had. that several others wouldn’t touch. Though I didn’t try Yahoo’s. Sad thing was it would send me to boring sales websites like virus programs, insurance sales and such. Nothing exciting like I here so much about. I told my wife I was disappointed. She glared, failing to see the humor. Laugh Thanks for the warning.

John- Ditto on the paintings. Outstanding job. I have to admit I think the kitty on the keyboard is just adorable. Perfect description Ray.

Well best be getting wound down for bedtime. Prayers to those in need

That Taco looks good Jeff, just the thing before bed!

Ray: On the subject of cold feet, I have a small wool blanket under the desk. Right now my feet are on it, but often they are wrapped in it! When the wood stove is burning, the furnace doesn't come on. There's little warm air getting up from the stove in the living room upstairs to the train room, especially on the floor.

Learned this evening that it's been a case of Dick all day, and we didn't know!

Dry brush weathering on that flat car's trucks worked better than I had expected. Now I'm waiting for the glue to set up on the tie downs for the load, and we are pretty much done.

I'll leave it to the rest of you to party, I'm off to bed.

Goodnight all,and God Bless. Prayers for Eric's mom and dad, and Paul's Mary Ann; and all in need of healing, comfort and peace.Angel

On the topic of cats…and computers, Tom, how about this…

That is adorable!  Talk about kitten on the keys!

It is so cold out.  (How cold is it?)  It is a cheery -1°F out there.  And the night is young.  I have been making some more line poles for the layout and while the heater is cranking out plenty of warm air, it is about 75° where my head is sitting at the workbench and it is about 45° where my toes are.  I finally gave up for the night and came back up here.  The wood stove is earning its keep!  Oh well I have seen it much much colder around here this time of year.

Flo I'll have a Hot Chocolate with whipped cream to warm up.  I'll be in back by the stove.

Evening folks.  Chloe, how about some warm pecan pie with some ice cream, and a decaf.

This has been one very long day.... and not a very good one either.

The one bright spot was the visit to the LHS for some n scale shopping.  Bought several packs of 19"(or whatever it is) radius track, 1 pack of long straights an an Atlas Conrail dash 8.The owner is selling his n atlas locos at an extra 10% off of his 20%.  (less20, then less10) still a good deal. I have an MRC 2400 power pack at home (somewhere) along with some rolling stock (again, somewhere).

Then came the hospital visit.  Both parents are on the same floor.  Dad is extremely ill, stage IV pancreatic cancer.  In the last several months the cancer has spread while he suffered from other illnesses.  Spent a long time with 2 of the doctors reviewing the extent of the illness and expected outcome,  An outcome that is rather obvious.

Time to return home tomorrow, work and school await. After I find a space to lay some n-track!

Glad to see all y'all, I haven't been up to a whole lot the past few days, yesterday was spent pulling the engine out of a jeep so I can do whatever needs to take place to stuff a new engine in.  Along the MRR front, haven't done anything, but I think what I'm going to do is take CSX's current engine roster and buy a percentage of each engine type so I can model what trains come through Troy (counting even the "run when necessary" trains) there are about 30 that come through, so I know that there is going to be a LOT of motive power that rolls through the area, which means getting a lot of varied rolling stock.  Then of course comes all the new rolling stock that I'm going to have to purchase too....

Flo, I'll have a RBF and sit here by the window and watch the trains come through this Saturday evening/night.

Well I finally make it back, and hear theres no PIE!!!!!  How can that be?

The wife and I went to some stores today.  Found a old SEGA game system for $10, and thats with 4 controllers, and 6 games.  I had to get it.  That was my youth days (My wife thinks I still act young thou).

Went to a hobby store and found some stuff.  Got a Southern Pacific GP40-2 dummy engine, and I will sell that.  I don't really need it.   There Woodland's stuff was cheap.  Oh......and they have a decent layout with Lionel, and some Ho trains.  I was looking at the HO scale stuff, and heard a small crash. There was about 3 Lionel trains crashed into each other.  Boxcars, tankers, passanger cars, engines, was everywhere.  This mans wife said, "oh that happens in real life".  Well the guy doing the demo didn't like that response.

I guess if theres no PIE, I guess I will have a RBF.

Well guys and gals I will head out.  Everybody have a good night.

PC, don't worry about that nasty rumor about running out of pie. Flo, go bring PC a piece of pie from your secret hiding place. They were just foolin' with you, Philip.
