Well I'm back from having supper with my sister......  She was in one of her "I'm going to ask you a question and then interupt you with something totally irrelevant before you finish one sentence" moods.  We went out to restaurant that we both like and I ordered the small Prime Rib........  "Oh I'm sorry sir we just ran out of the Prime Rib".  GRRRRRRRR  So I had the fish fry instead.  I was all ready for the Prime Rib, but the fish fry is always good there.

So I want a big piece of apple PIE to make up for not getting my Prime Rib and putting up with my sister interupting me before I could finish even one sentence! I came home and worked on a line pole for a while and took a few photos for WPF.

Have a great night all and prayers for all in need!

If little ones are a concern just close the door between train and cat.

I'll have to fix the latch, they seem to have figured out how to open the door to the attic  It's an old house, the latches don't always catch.

Time for some rest.  Thank You, and Good Night.  Eric

Years ago my mother had a Siamese that would jump up and grab the knob and turn it and open the door.

LOL!!! We had a cat---'Baby', a 25lb part Bobcat that could open doors just like that! It also would knock 'Putsy', the chihuahua 'from hell' as we kids called it, into the opposite side of the room with a backstroke from its forepaw!

Evenin everbody. Ah supper! On to Ryan’s menu. I believe I’ll have……one of each! And yes the assorted pies also. Dinner Oh and a small diet coke please.Whistling

Eric- Sorry about your Father. Did I understand correctly your Mother is stronger? I hope so.

Jim- oh, no, no, no, You see I only had 2 locos that were not from the seventies, and they were both Bachmann. Not that I have anything against Bachmann, as some people do. One is a Spectrum and the other is a standard. They both are good running and strong pullers. I have had no trouble with either. Shoot I have AHM and Tyco that are what 30+ yrs old and the still run, NOISY but run good. OK let me have it on the brands. (Oops I forgot where I was). Anyway imagine my giddiness when I get an Atlas DCC equipped, yes I looked, good running as good as, if not, new locomotive for $30.00. With ditch lights that work etc. We haw. I’m used to a light that gets brighter the faster it goes and says “look in the cab! Nothing!” Yeah I suppose the ditch lights would not be as impressive to you, Laugh(unless……maybe…. I’m seeing Back To The Future here) .Considering the luck I have with MRR purchases over the bay, Yup, this is better than pre-sliced bread for me. It appears they did run the thing but on carpet. I pulled enough carpet fibers out of the axles to weave a floor mat.

Joe-THREW OUT TRAIN STUFF!!!???? Shock Holy Shamoley!! NO PIE FOR 2 DAYS!

Yes I have a big old lighted magnifying thing-a-ma-jig to see HO!

Tom- Congratulations!! I hope the rain continues as long as needed. And the line between enough water and flooding and mudslides is not crossed.Yeah!!

I’ll just set over here in the corner and if anyone wants a sample there will be plenty. They have big portions here.

Me too, Joe! Smile,Wink, & Grin Oh, on your N scale, before you throw it out, you maybe could ask if any other Diners (who model in N scale) might want it (like for postage or such). They might be able to use stuff that you or I have not a lot of use for (being in the grand and glorious Home-Oriented scale...Smile,Wink, & Grin)

None of it ever worked anyway. And the stuff I got rid of today was misc. stuff. Most notably, the cork that snapped with the slightest bend.

Eric:

My four-footed furries are very prone to HO, so I'd hate to see what they might accomplish with N.  But then in my case, I'm talking about a Maine Coon (18 lbs) and a Norwegian Forest cat (19 and gaining), both of whom are slightly  larger than your average miscievous feline.   Spooky, the Maine Coon is very prone to picking up Cabeese by their coupulas and carrying them off, and Remington, my "Wegie" keeps looking at my Yellowstones with a gleam in his big green eyes.  .

So beware your four-footed companions, especially if they seem to like 'collectables,' LOL.

And continued prayers for your parents.

Well, my 4x8 is now officially history! Just have to go ahead and take it apart. I think I can make some space for a new layout in my bedroom. I just need something smaller in a climate contolled room.

Sawyer, do remember, that if you do an around-the-walls layout (up high enough that you don't hit your head on it when you sit up in bed), that 4X8 wood could make (depending on how wide) from 12 to 32 linear feet of base for the layout (splitting into narrower strips than 4 feet wide/deep). Also, you might want to take a look at Iain Rice's books on layouts for room-size or smaller spaces - Mid-Sized and Manageable Track Plans, or Small, Smart & Practical Track Plans (both books are from Kalmbach). Be careful, because Kalmbach also has a book whose title is close to the Mid-Sized... one, which is newer (but not by Rice, but someone else). Rice has some track plans in those books which are designed for building in your bedroom - and still being able to use the room for sleeping, studying, etc. Hopefully, those books can give you some ideas to start with. Hope your team does well this weekend and Monday! Yeah!!

ns3010
I was only kidding!

Ray - I hear ya on telling time by the minutes it takes (having grown up in St. Louis County, myself). Of course, sometimes we have to adjust for the traffic pattern/flow, right? Laugh Enjoy your dinner, sounds yummy!

Eric, the wine is fine (if I may make a small pun...). The twins (and Vinnie...) make sure that no minors 'imbibe the bubbly' here in the Diner. This is a family-friendly Diner, after all - well, except for those occasional parties on the weekends...Whistling I will add your Dad's pneumonia (and Mom's ailments) to the prayer list. Garry, is the chapel car still on the next track?

Tom - yeah, now you like that rain, but when the mudslides start creeping down into your backyard, you'll be singing a different tune... Wink Hopefully, it won't come to that, though. And we'll be watching to see if you're posting every day over the weekend, to make sure those felines haven't tied you up (so they can pick the locks and play with all your Yellowstones). I hope your friend doesn't have model trains, or Wiezl may go back home having learned some 'new tricks'...Oops

Need to do some more reading on DCC this weekend, so I can figure how to separate the blocks on my existing two sections (and later, on the others I have yet to build, when I get more territory for the RR). I have at least 2 Kalmbach books on wiring, plus emails from a couple of Diners who've given me some sage suggestions. Also would like to talk with our MRR club electronics guru Kevin, but that'd be Monday night likely. I also will work some more on my Walthers modular warehouse, and my Roberts Printing kitbash. Maybe check my paint supplies and see what I may need to order to replentish it. Yep. Smile

Think for now, I'll just kick back in the window booth and sip my wine while I watch the evening switcher finished up its run. Ah, the weekend...Approve

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau (where the temp is 41 F and dropping)

That's the only thing with N.  It's hard to see the small stuff, well all the stuff.  It's mostly all RTR anyway.  This will cause trouble with the 4-footed furries.  They're intimidated by the HO but N are like mice...  WE'll see, I'm stopping at the LHS tomorrow, he has a HUGE selection of motive, rolling and track.  Like I said before I might go with snap track type, it will be quicker than laying flex track.

Thanks for the good wishes, i'm just getting tired.  Eric

If little ones are a concern just close the door between train and cat. 'Spring' isn't much of an issue because he is still a little skittish around moving trains----and the few times he went around with a car/loco/whatever in his mouth he tended to be going around protecting/hiding his 'little ones'. Oh well, one tends to play it by ear----Whistling

Afternoon all:

RAIN!!!!

Yes, for two days now.  Delicious, wet, soggy RAIN!!  And more predicted until Sunday or Monday.  And a snow level that is supposed to drop to 4,000 feet this evening.  So far we've got about two inches of the wet stuff here in the Valley (okay, it's a slow rain, but what the Heck), and it's pouring up in the foothills.  Storm warnings in the mountains.

Now I know that doesn't sound particularly inviting to you guys who have been putting up with those terrible Northwest and Northern storms, but believe me, out here in SunnyCal, it's a Godsend.  Right now I'm looking out the window and watching the stuff drip out of my flooded gutters and grinning.  And evidently SoCal is getting whacked with it also, so I hope their reservoirs--such as they are--are getting filled up.  Of course, I also hope they are spared mudslides.

Jeff:  If you've got six inches of clearance with that big tanker of yours, be happy.  I worked for the Forest Service during the summers in Truckee when I went to college, the second year I was there, they got this brand-spanking new International-Harvester tanker unit that was so tall we had to have the Engineering Crew come up and heighten the door on the tanker barn.  Man, climbing into the back of that baby gave me Acrophobia, LOL!   Funny thing, it gave us more trouble than the old Ford tanker we had originally.

Just had a cat walk across the keyboard.  No, not Remington or Spooky, but some strange little black and grey female that I am baby-sitting for a buddy of mine while he looks for another apartment.  He arrived this morning with a cat-carrier and before I could say "Let's find a room to keep her in," let her out.  About 7 furry little pounds of sheer CUTE!   Spooky just stared, Remington took out after her, she jumped around, they've been playing ever since.  Her name is Wiezl and she's a little cute furball.  Anyway, I'm "Daddy" for a while.  My buddy says she's a 'Lap Cat' and likes something called "Goopy Tuna."   Evidently it's something that is put out by the same brand that Remington and Spooky crave.

Anyhow, right now I have three cats charging around the house.  I really don't think that Spooky is amused, but Remington seems to be having a ball.  Picture to follow, if I can ever get them to slow down, LOL!

Best to all, prayers to those in need.

Tom Tongue

Hoo Boy, I see dinner's on me.  Flo, I'm in a Brats and Sauerkraut kinda mood tonight--you know, the kind that's been cooking in good German beer and sweet-hot mustard with lots of bacon and onions and potatoes most of the day.  Everyone else, order up whatever you want!

***Eric, sorry to hear about your Dad's pneumonia. Perhaps it's a good thing he was seen when he was and it can now be promptly treated. Sending healing thoughts their way.

***Sawyer, if your eyesight is "youthful", then N is cool. These days, I'm beginning to wish I had been collecting HO all my life instead of N. But who knew I would ever have a "train room" to run something as hugely oversized as HO?Laugh

While I'm here, I'll have a large slice of that Chocolate Cake, please & thanks.

Let's see, it's 7:30pm.  I just came back from the hospital where my mother is.... Except, now my father is there too!  He has had respiritory issues for a while, well the Dr. at the rehab checked him out after I left this morning and decided there is fluid in the lungs. After seeing mom, checking in, writing to you people and going back to the house, I walk in and my sister says "Guess what happened to Dad".

It seems he has pneumonia........

Chloe, I think I'll have a nice rare rib-eye with mushrooms and onions some mashed taters, and choc. cake. Hey, can I bring a bottle of wine in?

Oh yeah, trains.... Um, Was it Terry with the scratch built?  Now that's art!

Thinking of n-scale to get something running while I make big plans for the HO.  I have a few n grain cars from a diorama I built a while back with the Walthers mill.  All I need is engine and some snap track.......
