A large coffee To Go, please & thanks.
Wow, so many posts since I was last in.
After a quick scan, I see Jeffrey's new station is open for business.
Well, Inlaws are here for the night, so excuse me if I grab that coffee and head into my dungeon ("workshop") and find something to do. Perhaps I'll start gathering up some of the scrap lumber I'll be using for the shelf part of my layout. Will drop back in later.
Hope everyone is doing well.
Rob
ns3010Sawyer, why is is history? Didn't you just start it?
Sawyer, why is is history? Didn't you just start it?
Yes, I just started it, but I've had a layout on this for, well, as long as I've had an n scale layout, and i'm ready to try something new. Also, the attic has too extreme temperatures. And since, when i move into my room, I'll most likely be creating an around-the-walls style layout, I don't want to have a bunch of work invested into my 4x8. I think I'll have a very slim, but very long, shelf layout in my bedroom for now.

Well, my 4x8 is now officially history! Just have to go ahead and take it apart. I think I can make some space for a new layout in my bedroom. I just need something smaller in a climate contolled room.
JimRCGMORay, are you just a teensey-weensey bit excited? Have fun tonight with those!
Spent a couple hours actually getting some things accomplished in the train room last night. May get a bit of time later tonight. My sister and I are going to go out for dinner. She lives about 15 minutes from here (Can you tell I'm from upstate NY, we always measure distance by time.....).
With that in mind, Zoe I'll have the king sized Prime Rib, medium rare, baked potato, yep with sour cream, and a house garden salad with crumbly blue cheese and Italian dressing. And for desert the apple cobbler with a scoop of Vanila Ice Cream on top.
Jeffrey I hope you get that car figured out soon. Pretty soon you will have almost a new car there....... That must be frustrating not to be able to get it running right!
See you all later. I'll be in the back table chowing down on that side of beef.

ewl01Jeff, I shouldn't have thrown my 2 cents into the mix without asking info. Poor way to diagnose a problem, jumping in without any info. And , as as been said it's tough to diagnose over the phone as it were. Sorry if I only added to the confusion.
TMarshI'm just a wealth of useful info aren't I ! I'm sorry Jeffrey, I'm not laughing at your problem. It's frustrating to put it mildly I know. I'm just tickled at how I contradict myself by saying one thing and doing another. Like I said If I don't what it is I'm talking about, Then I don't know what I'm talking about. Sorry I couldn't help you. Sounds like you've got just about as good a handle on it as anyone. When you figure it out it will probably be something as simple as a weak fuel pump or pressure regulator or possibly air pressure in the left rear tire. (just kidding) Happens to me more than I care to admit.. Good luck my friend.
Keep trying. You may throw something out there that I haven't thought of yet.

Afternoon, Zoe - yep, busy morning today (from about 6 a.m., after my on-call night out till 1 a.m.). I'll have a RBF, please 'n' thankyouma"am!
Ray, are you just a teensey-weensey bit excited? Have fun tonight with those!
Sawyer, not a problem on the pie (even if you got Ns Joe stirred up a bit - if I recall correctly, I think Mark's not wild about it, either (or another of our younger Diners...). Besides, PC will figure that as just more available for him, right PC?
- and Terry, that Express building looks like it'd be fun to build. Have a ball with that. Is that pen one of those Floquil ones? I got the (track? don't recall now) a bit ago at Hobby Lobby. Looking good on your progress on the Express.
Rob, good to hear about your SD24. Nice that some things are going well for you, after the contractor games.
Jeff - hope you get things on the vehicle figured out okay (and less expensively). You got my mouth watering with your telling about the beef tips dinner with your folks.
Ryan, it's just as well that you got your HVAC up and running - I've seen it happen that some days when it's medium-warm outside, it feels cooler inside (because it's warm enough to not kick in the heat?). Go figure, indeed! Hmmm, I might just stick around for the Pot Roast, Veggies and Rice for dinner, actually.
Todd, none of my locos have ditch lights...should I be disappointed? Oh yeah, I guess that's because I model the 1950's era.
Our weather here in Cape G. today has been delightful! In the 50's (F) today - but watch out, tonight it drops about 20+ degrees and the high tomorrow will only be in the 30's (F).
Yesterday over lunch, I went by the LHS that's closing at the end of the month (30 percent off everything). I got 3 or 4 W-S cannisters (3 of ballast and 1 of Conifer stuff), a book on maintaining your trains (Kalmbach), some Evergreen plastic (sheet and some moulding shapes - I beam kind, hollow tubes for tanks or sanding tower parts, etc.). Wound up spending a bit more than I'd expected, but hey, at 30 percent off...
Barry, glad to see you saved me from the TOP honors this afternoon! Hope your weather gets a bit better/warmer for you soon. How many days have you been below zero (C)?
I'll w**k on my RBF while I wait for my helping of the Pot Roast and Veggies.
Blessings and prayers,
Jim in Cape Girardeau

ps The Drs. want to send Mom home for the time being. Not much else can be done in the Hospital. They said she would be better off at home for now. After all the hospital is full of sick people, wouldn't want her to catch anything! Her strength is better so we will see what is next.
Thanks for the well wishes

TMarshJeffrey- After going back again….WAY back, we are a yackity bunch, I found your original post. As I feared I headed, as you now know, more than likely in the wrong direction. Do you mean it idles rough or maybe not wants to at all? OK. Sounds like you know your way around the engine bay fairly well so I’ll spare the details. (I hope I didn’t insult your knowledge before). Check the EGR control solenoid if you haven’t already. Based on the computer code it sounds possibly like the computer is not getting a signal from the control solenoid, possibly. Warm up the car. Disconnect the hose at the EGR valve and put your finger over the hose to stop a vacuum leak if it is passing. See if it doesn’t idle better. If it does the solenoid is either bad or not connected. Again a lot of possibly’s thrown in there. But if that doesn’t fix or you’ve already tried it. I’d just be grasping for straws from here. Sorry. Oh and I too love the photos.
YEEE HAAAW!!!!! My Atlas Dash 8-40bw just came from the bay. $30.00. Runs good and smooth. They said it ran sluggish but it ran fine for me. I’ll probably take the shell off and check things out but I’m not looking for any problems. It probably just needs broken in? The handrails haven’t even been put on yet. First loco I’ve had with working ditch lights and lights that only work in the direction it‘s going! Yeah I know but for me it’s exciting.

Ryan- glad to have you back. So sorry about the furnace. They don’t seem to break at a convenient time do they. Sounds like you’ve had a very eventful last couple of days. Boy the menu sure looks good. I’ll definitely be back for supper. The problem is WHAT TO CHOOSE!!!
Gotta have fun with ya sometime.
Haha, very funny. You know what I meant :P

Hmmmnnn....interesting: the wife and I just decided that tonight's fare would be alfredo/pesto sauce cradling some tortellini, festooned with shrimp and whatever else we can find to toss in (which I see above on the menu.) Can't wait. Meantime, its a cloudy day in Palm Springs (in Marlon Brando voice: "the horror....the horror.")
It's been a crazy week.
Monday, off work for the holiday and spent most of the day in the train room. Started the lift out section that crosses the attic door and worked on the benchwork too. Will try to post some photos later..
Tuesday, snow day with 7+ inches of the white stuff, shut down most businesses, schools, etc. And heater breaks, temps went down to 6 F....burrrr....no heat for the downstairs, gas fireplace helps some.
Talked with my dad and he is doing well, tests results will return on Tuesday next week, then course of action will be decided. Thanks again for all your support.
Wednesday, go to work 2 hours late delay with black ice on the roads get home late to make up lost time from Tues. Pick up Monique from work and she locks herself out of the building, last one to leave, we call a co-worker to come back and let here in 30 minutes sitting out in the iced over parking lot. Good thing I was on my way to pick her up. Then we make it to our dance class just in time for 8:00 pm and pick up Ben from friends house after and finally get home for 9:30 pm.
HVAC repair men show up with Ben home in the morning for the 2nd snow day from school and find out the blower fan froze up, but wrong part on truck. Have to order part and gets in for delivery Thurs PM. So repair on Friday now. Day 2 with no heat....burrr....temps down to 21 F.
Thursday, back to work for a regular day in at 8:00 am, and car pool with Monqiue but has to work late again, got home around 8:30 pm, long day. Day 3 with no heat...temps down to 32 F.
Today, HVAC repair man here at the house, doing PM's on both units and replacing the blower moter. Working from home today with remote access to the EPA network with the VPN access.
Yeah, we should have some heat tonight....high today is upper 50's. Heater fixed just in time for the next heat wave.......laugh, cry, bang head all at the same time. Multi-tasking....doing the laundry too...LOL
galaxy I hate to say it Robby, but you could learn how to make that lasagna yourself. Or learn to cook a few things and then you could surprise the wife with a hot home cooked meal when she gets home from work !!!! Cooking is not that hard and really is not a mystery. You CAN do it!

Yeah, this stuff is not like rocket science, as Emeril says many times on his cooking show. I agree, cooking a meal for the wife earns brownie points big time!
Robby, I love the weathering you did on that backdrop structure. I have that one and need to attack it with some of that too! Oh and the ROCK covered car looks great.
ROBBY... When are you going to teach me how do rusting like you?
Der John, great videos you put together there, looks like Windows Movie Maker eh! And congrats on the Arts Society presentation.
Did some one mention pie?
Eric, great job with the laser kit house, when does it go up for sale and what is the asking $$? Prayers and thoughts going your way too for your mom!
Rob, what a cute pair of cats you have there on the padding! Looks like they get along too! And a Bengal too! Wow.
Blownout, must have been quite a scare to witness that crash, luck for him he survived.
TMarsh Ryan- Thanks are not necessary, but you are more than welcome. I for one can hardly wait for the dinner menu, but I can wait. Don't rush it.

Todd, your patience is now rewarded with a menu today....see below...
JimRCGMO Okay, Diners, we'll have to slow things down a bit, so Ryan can catch up. Otherwise, no more of his delectable menus, and we know how we love food around here, right?? Ryan, I understand that Reader's Digest is working on a condensed version of the Diner, real soon now...

ROTFL Jim, you are too funny my man! You just about had me falling out of the chair...thanks I needed that! Now..up to page 47 and only a few more to gooo...Galaxy, that word list should be required as a major part for the complete manual reading material... Jeff, always enjoy your daily layout photo!
Luke, thanks for putting up that menu while I been out!
Oh, and pie! Spiders and pie, my oh my!
This VPN remote access has kicked me out 3 times already this morning, at least my remote desktop is still up when I geat back in, but the latency right now is horrific....
Jerry et al, the New River Mining kit is great, one of Walther's best1
Well, $612.00 later and the two H/AC units PM's have been completed and the blower fan replaced and temps are about 50 outside now. HEAT again....yessssss
Unca Roggie, Palm Springs, I miss Palm Springs, visited there once and I hear it's warm there year round....

Here you can see i'm using a stain pen to stain the 2x4s before cutting and inserting them into the studded walls
i'm spacing them at 2 ft but back then i bet it would have been 16 inches on center
but 2 ft is close enough for these old eyes

Mornin' everyone!
I'm trying to type with a 19 lb. cat being held in my other arm. Blakie has been watching me type this.... There he decided that if I wasn't going to give him 100% of my attention, he would leave.
Since Jeffrey has the top of the page, I'll have what Jerry is having. Zoe, make the coffee dark roast in a FGLK mug please.
Today is another one of those days where I can't get anything done because I am waiting for a phone call with information that I need to do something else and can't do the other stuff I need to do because I have to sit near the phone.......
I be sitting in the front window booth watching the trains and waiting for a phone call.
Good morning, All. Chloe, I will have coffee and a cinnamon roll, please. I will sit in this back booth to see who shows up.
Sue
Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.
TMarshJeffrey- IAC is Idle Air Control. Located on the throttle body, it controls the idle of your engine compensating for loads at idle. Most of the time you will only notice it not functioning when the car is at idle. Idle low, idle floats etc. You could also notice a stumble upon accelerating from an idle especially when the car is cold. Can easily be confused with the throttle position sensor in diagnosis. I forget what your problem was or what type of car you’re dealing with (Can’t find the post)but because Eric suggested the IAC I’m assuming it fits as a possibility. You will more than likely need a special tool that allows you to make the IAC work on demand to definitively determine whether the IAC is functioning. I recall you said the computer set a code. It could set off a different code based on what other functions it is causing to get improper readings. Maybe, maybe not. There are a few things you can check yourself to see if it works, maybe. With the engine running, turn on your air conditioner and listen to see if the idle picks up to compensate for the load. If it does not, turn the engine off. And remove the IAC. Turn the ignition switch to on, don’t start. The plunger should move. If it does not, check for power to the IAC. If you have power chances are the IAC is bad. If you don’t have power you’ll have to trace it back. I know this is rather vague with a lot of maybes and could be‘s, but I usually hesitate to diagnose something “over the phone” as quite frankly there are so many reasons a car can do something. Without standing there, you either over simplify the cause or try to go for the opposite. Usually sending someone off on a wild goose chase, spending a lot of time and sometimes money for nothing. Then if it isn’t what’s wrong I feel bad because of it. This is just a suggestion you can try without spending any money and not a whole lot of time if the symptoms fit. Or if you just run out of things to try. Good luck.
Morning Gang: I was by yesterday but didn't stop in, just peaked in the window. I'm still working on the narrow gauge trucks a little at a time. Which brings up something. All you ROFs just what is this " Free Time " that folks talk about. I sure haven't had any.
The dogs are taking on about some thing so I'd better check.
See you all later.
Mornin all. Zoe, I'll take french toast and a glass of oj, please, thanku.
Jeffrey, wish I could help you with your car, but I have no clue what you guys are talkin about. I can't even till the end of my sophomore year (less than a year and 1/2)
Finished up the lake scenery last night, photos to come.
Today I might work on stuff by the smallest hill. Have to clean up under the table. I know there's... Well actually, I have no clue whats down there Probably some of that N scale stuff that I thought I got rid of. My uncle gave it to me about two years ago. I model HO, and 1/2 of it didn't work anyway.
I'll be in the corner booth, waiting for the intermodal to roll through.
Hey Everbody, I guess a bacon double cheeseburger with Onion rings and a Dr Pepper Puhleeze. And Thank You! It’s a bit early for that but hey, it sounds good.
Well, Place has been buzzing here. There’s so many pages of……….Uh what’s wrong ? There is a feeling here that I’m not used to. Kinda downbeat. Kinda like you found out someone doesn’t like PIE. Nah, that’s a silly notion. Anyway there’s so many pages of info here I can’t remember it all. Soooo….. I won’t even pretend to have a memory.
Spent yesterday helping my Mother move to her new apartment. She’ll be 80 this year and doesn’t get around to well so she’s leaving the family home and moving into Springfield. She’s worried that I won’t get in to see her if she moves “all the way to Springfield”. I assure her that it’s not horse and buggy days and it won’t take too long to get in there. And besides she is moving near my LHS, so I tease her and say it’s a good thing she moved near there because I can stop in as I pass by.
Beautiful day yesterday we had gorgeous weather. 50 degreesF.

ewl01Jeff, did you check the IAC and the TPS? I don't know what you have but on our Impala pd cars the IAC specs sometimesrun outside of parameters without setting a code. Also, this is probably a stupid question to ask.... spark plugs? How many miles and are they platinums? We have seen platinums with some miles on them not giving good spark on demand.
Good Morning All....Its clear and 36 here this morning temps even rose alittle last nite posta get close to 50 later...I'll have a Nice slice of Garry's KY Ham, couple of Eggs over easy, fried taters, biscuits and coffee please..Thank You...I hope to get some more work done on mine latter after visiting nurse leaves...My son is coming up this week-end to start moving things around so I can have a hospital bed..We are going to move layout into bed room and looks like more space to make the layout bigger!! You all have a good day....Jerry

Oh, by the way, Chloe? I'll have a cheese omlet and a coffee before I head up to the folks again. Hospital runs to make.
