Good morning, bright and sunny here in New England, not a cloud in sight, 70F, low humidity and a slight breeze from the NW. Got some painting to do today with these conditions being just perfect.

JOHNBOY: You may be correct in saying that maybe the EAST regions will have an early Fall/Winter. We will soon find out seeing today is September 1st.

CJ JIM: No, the perfect storm never hit us, it was more of an ocean storm off the coast, the result of a hurricane out to see, a strong LOW and a front moving down from the NW. All three combined to make a "perfect" meteorlogical condition for one big storm with waves over 100 feet in height. We live 50 miles INLAND from Boston, almost due west of Boston, about three miles north of the Mass Pike (I-90). The worst hurricane to hit NE was the hurricane of 1938. Hurricane Diane hit us in 1955 and caused massive flooding. The last hurricane to hit NE was hurricane Bob in 1990, but that was mostly a Cape Cod storm, no damage inland.

SAWYER: A cold this time of the year is due to NOT ENOUGH SLEEP young man!!! You need 8 hours sleep a night MINIMUM!!  Listen to grampa and get some sleep, never mind text messaging the girls at midnight or 1am!!

JEFF: Cover up your layout Jeff, winds are going to be your trouble with those pine trees overhead.

See you guys at lunch

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Morning all!

Not much going on here weather-wise.

Today: Sunny, hot & more humid - High: 90

Tonight: Mostly clear and warm - Low: 67

I'll have some vacation pics up later today for you all to enjoy.

Also, I took some scenery photo's that would work real well for eastern United States backdrops.  I got a bunch when the weather was a bit overcast, and then a few sunny ones too.  They're pretty good size and real genaric, so if anyone wants them you can PM me with your email address and I'll zip them over to you.

Jeff, it looks like you're in for a touch of weather.  Seems it's heading right for you.  I've added you and yours to my prayer list.  Be safe, OK?  I've been through a few of these things, some pretty bad ones too, and they can really pack a whollop.  If that eye passes over you, as I think it will, use that time to go out and assess your saftey and make quick repairs and adjustments.  Just don't take long.  You'll only have a few minutes.  Keep your eye on the sky as it will turn quick.  I know, they say not to do that, but if you aren't stupid about it then you'll be fine.......just don't be stupid about it!  The back side of the storm shouldn't be as bad for you as those clouds will have been over land for some time as they rotate back around to you.  That will take a lot of the sting out of them.

Well, I'll catch you later.  Bye!

Good morning.

It's 78, extremely cloudy and getting worse as Gustav approaches. The high will be in the mid to upper 80's with a high possibility of thunderstorms.

As I sit here on my hilltop looking down at the lower properties around me the weather is getting extremely ugly. I'll be out of here within the next two hours.

Evening Gang: I cleaned out the corral this morning. It took about an hour but it would have been longer if I hadn't had the grapple on the loader. That thing is the best money I ever spent.

Jeff take care.

Garry I hope that the youngan didn't get burned too bad.

Packer I'm really sorry to hear about your friend. My condolences to his family and you.

Mitch I'm happy to hear that your mom is doing better. I hope that she can get into her hospital soon and get better and home.

Well I guess I'll head for bed.

***Tjsingle, That caboose is in desperate need of a repaint.

***Garry, that's a bummer about the little ones burned hand. On the upside, she may well remember such a harsh lesson. Hope her burn doesn't hurt to bad and heals quickly.

Here are a couple pics of my deck project (infront of my "painting porch" I built previously. Need to get some more screws to finish the little "bridge" that connects deck to sidewalk. Then I can trim up the trek-deck edges. Rest of the deck will be wood.

Going to go rest now. I'm beat tonight and have much to do tomorrow. At least there are no hurricanes about to hit. Sure makes one appreciate what they have to be thankful for.

tjsingle ... thanks for the railfan pix. I feel sorry for the caboose though.

Jeff ...  Prayers to you and others in your state and the affected gulf area.

The grandkids were here and we all went into Land-Between-The-Lakes national park next to us. We treated them for a vist to the nature Station and they saw lots of live local animals: bobcat, coyotes, owls, an eagle, a vulture, an assorment of venomous and nonvenomous snakes, turtles, etc., etc., etc,........ . Later, they grandkids wanted pancakes for supper. It's grnadpa's job to make pancakes. While I was doing that the four-year-old reached up suddenly and put her hand. She got quite burn, and we heard it. I feel badly becuase I was in charge at the time.

Have a nice Labor Day. Cheers

Hey all!

I'm back!

And it looks like Jeff is about to have him some fun!  Whats the deal Jeff?  You jealous of all the fun Mr. Parks had last week so now you're trying to follow suit?  Take care, OK?  I'll be praying for you!

And Packers......Shayne's family is in my prayers.

Well, vacation was great.  I'll post some pics tomorrow, but right now I'm wiped out.  Long day on the lake and then driving back.

Later!

I'll try to post some progress pics soon. Ran out of screws this evening or I would have finished the entry portion of the new porch. Jeff, is your folks' place built out of concrete or something close? I guess they had rebar all throught the roof of concrete or such as that. Is that what your folks did? I would ditto the idea of having a tarp over your layout (and lash it down) to keep any possible rain and junk from piling up when Gustav moves through. Will be keeping both your and Terry's necks o' the woods in my prayers over the next several days.

There's nothing to tie a tarp down to. The layout is bordered a walls on three sides with no walkways. My parents home has two (2) concrete-rebar super reinforced tornado shelters in it the size of small bedrooms. They're usually used for storage. The entire house is reinforced with strapping plates and steel tornado straps. I feel quite safe there, probably because I helped to rebuild it like it is.

Terry, make sure your place is battened down and all the stuff done today that you had on that hurricane list. Gustav could still generate a lot of twisters after landfall. Oops [oops]

Dick, that hurricane you were talking about that you had up your way a few years ago - was that the one that they referred to in "The Perfect Storm" movie (loosely adapted for the movie, of course)? How far inland is your place, again?

Right now, southeast Missouri doesn't seem all that far to me from the Gulf Coast...Shock [:O]

Nah, Mark - you're just busy with other stuff and don't get in here as often as Packers#1 has since he started stopping by. You can catch up pretty easy if you try, though...Whistling [:-^]

Packers#1, will add Shayne's family to my Angel [angel]Angel [angel] list.

JohnBoy, you don't want to come down to the Gulf coast and live where it gets really 'Wild & Wooly'? (Nah, me either... close enough where I am!)

Mitch, sounds like in spite of her problems, your Mom's still working on getting herself to the other hospital (and then really starting to work on her progress!).Thumbs Up [tup] She's a fighter, for sure. Yeah!! [yeah]

Sounds like a lot of you Diners are having family over for the weekend - and Jeff's parents, too! Wink [;)] Tomorrow is our singles Labor Day luncheon party. We're having it in the middle of the day, so those who have to go to work Tuesday a.m. can get their 8 or 6 hours of sleep (per Dr. Dick's recommendations Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]). Don't know if we'll have the volleyball and the croquet  set up or not. Guess I'll see tomorrow when I get there. I'm picking up and bringing my buddy Mark, who hasn't been able to get to as many of the things (due to his transportation difficulties). Should do him some good to get out for something besides church and work.

I started setting up the walls for the church I'm scratchbuilding, but decided I'll have to take them out of the gluing rig since I'll need to cut the window openings first. Any of you Diners cut window openings in clapboard (styrene), and what tool did you use for that? I'm thinking of using a small drill bit with my Dremel (inside of the limits of the opening), and then use Xacto knife and sandpaper to enlarge it to the size I need. Fun part will be, most of the windows will not be rectangular - side windows will most all be gothic type (or tall rectangles with a triangular apex at the top). There'll be one and maybe both ends of the narrow side where I'll have a round window near the top of the wall. I'll sketch up some drawings and post some time tomorrow to make it clearer.

Well, that chowder started up my appetite. Now I'd better order a full dinner Dinner [dinner], and that might take a bit to eat, so I might be in the corner booth until it's time to head for home!

Prayers for safety for all those along the Gulf coast and all the public safety people who'll be working out in or after Gustav. Healing prayers for your Mom, Mitch, and for all the rest who are ailing.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Yeah, you could have something more serious, like two colds!Laugh [(-D]Eight Ball [8]

I'd rather have a cold than something like the flu, dry heaves (not fun, I can tell you), or a busted leg, lol.

Been thetre and done that! Not fun.

Could ya'll keep the family of Shayne Odermatt (one of my friends) in your prayers. He died this past weekend in I think a boating accident, though i'm not sure. I do know that he died. He was 13 or 14.
