Cedar...you glue shoes on these days? That's cool! Technology sure changes!
GMT...good luck at the Glen. Sorry you broke a tranny at Slime Rock. If you ever need a "guest" driver at Road Atl or Savannah, let me know. I've got a pretty good W/L record there. Did you get back into your house yet?
Jeff, and the rest of Gustav's victims, (C&O and Geared Steam, and others?) Glad you "weathered" the storm. ( I apologize profusely for the bad pun).
Sawyer...sorry about your buddy.
Tom...hope the knee heals quick!

Glad to help you out, Tom - gee, if Fergie got one of those guns, he'd really have to widen the MESS's track curves even more!
Let's see, Tom, if you can't taste anything, does that mean you could eat that tamale pie with some of DaBomb on it?
Night, everybody - got to go home for now.

Evening Gang:
Jeff it's good to hear from you. GS good to hear that you weathered the storm also.
We got a little shower here. Just enough to keep the dust down. I was hoping that we'd get a couple of inches.
I put the brush hog on the old International 574 and mowed the right of way down at the UP. I got the area southwest of the crossing done and started southeast of the crossing. I had to quit after I busted the fourth shear pin. Since it was the last one I had I had to make a run to Ellis Equipment for some more. I got a dozen and 10 linch pins. By the time I got back it was close to supper time. I'll do some up keep on the mower and adjust the lift links to the lower lift arms so I can lift the mower higher when traveling. The UP had a track machine working so I had some " track time " from him. Tomorrow I'll try and get some more done. The weeds were higher then my head and I really got a good dusting with pollen and dust.
Well I guess I'll head for bed.
Good Night All
Hey everybody, I'm back.
I've been very busy over the summer, being away from home 29 consecutive days without a laptop or other computer. Then school started on August 18th, and I haven't been able to come on and blog extensively on my adventures. Its 10 p.m. and I know I'll have to go to sleep soon so I won't start in yet, save to say I saw tons of trains. Here's a sample.
This picture was taken in Baldwin, FL. And I agree, it's a good prototype for track-carrying cars

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the good wishes. And so glad to hear that at least so far, everyone of our friends on the Gulf have weathered Gus well.
Best to all, prayers to those in need.

Yep, lol. of course, there's florida and georgia before SC, but still, Hanna will have part of the storm out over the ocean. We've got a good hall closet though. one things for sure, I'll have my magazines at my feet, and my atlas locos in their cases in my pockets. It ain't fun starting over from scratch. probably have my rolling stock at my feet to, lol.

Man, was it QUIET at school today! my buddy john luke is passing around a composition notebook for people to sign, and there's a banner for people to sign in shayne's honor in the 400 hall (I signed both).
The football jamboree is tommorow, so ya'll probably won't see me around here tommorow. might get on for a touch of time after the game though.

Tom, glad to hear they went in and took real care of the knee (and the staph!). On those tanks, you know that Walthers' site allows you to do an advanced search, by military, HO scale, and enter 'tank' in the description/keyword section. I got over 300 matches (after eliminating transporter - use '!' without the single quotes - for terms to eliminate). There're a lot of them. If you have a specific model (like M19), you could enter that and tank in the description field. That'll save you lifting a heavy Walthers catalog. Hope that helps, since you're able to get to the computer.
Well, time for me to head for home. See everyone later!
Blessings,
***Jeff, good to hear all is well. JB weld is good for lots of stuff. BTW, my Dad came very close to losing a foot to a Staff infection, also. Serious stuff.
***GS, hope your power is restored soon.
***Tom, your life doesn't seem to have enough challenges, does it now! Do take real good care of yourself. Staff infections can be nasty, as my wife can attest to from working at hospitals. Glad you have a friend to help out with Lowell. healing thoughts heading your way for you (& Lowell as well).
***Terry, other than the off tastebuds, how are you doing? Feeling any better yet?

Tom, hope you get well soon!

I'm at home today since I've been under the weather for the past few days but I'm starting to feel better. (no more sore throat or runny nose, just a minor headache) Hopefully I get better soon so I can go to the train club tonight.

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
Jeff and GS: Seems you weathered Gus pretty well--I'm really glad that both of you suffered little damage. I was watching the storm track on the Weather Channel and it looked pretty wet and ferocious. I'm glad it dropped a degree or two in ferocity when it hit the coast.
Well, haven't been on here very much the last week--spent it in the hospital. Seems when they cleaned out the knee they didn't quite get everything and I ended up with a Staph infection and surgery to completely rebuild the darned knee. I'm home now, trying to be comfortable in a leg-brace and I'm kind of incapacitated for the next 4 to 6 weeks. Which means that Back to School doesn't happen for me this semester, I'll have to wait for the Spring semester to go back to the guys. Funny thing in the hospital, while I'm lying there with all sorts of interesting tubes in me, who comes barging in but Father Wanser from the school. He stares at me, I stare at him, I swallow and ask, "Are you here for Last Rites?" He laughs and says, "Why, do you want them EARLY?" So he performed a Healing Mass for me. I think it's working--what little pain I've got can be taken care of with a couple of Aspirin. Great guy, Father Wanser, when he heard I was in the hospital, he turned his class over to a Proctor so he could dash out and spend a little time with me.
In the meantime, a friend of mine is taking Lowell over for HIS daily injections. Little guy's getting weaker, but still eats like a horse and seems pretty chipper. It's a 'wait and see' proposition.
So, any model railroading I get to do for a while is going to have to be done at the kitchen table then put in a "To Transfer" box for when I can start going back out into the garage. I found out that the tanks I was going to use on the military train are 1/72 scale--well, DUH! No WONDER those tracks hang over the sides of the flatcar. Looks as if I'll have to order some to-scale stuff from Walthers if I can ever get hold of a catalogue.
Well, that's about it from SunnyCal. Couple of new fires out here, but they were small and got put under control pretty easily.

Hey Zoe, since Jeff is back so quickly (and no obvious ill effects from Gustav), I'll treat for root beer floats for everybody! It's the post-Gustav-hurricane party! Ryan, whatcha got on the menu for lunch today?

Sunny and muggy here in Cape G. today, courtesy of Gustav. We might get some rain in the afternoon, but that'll be the usual summer afternoon popup shower if we get it, rather than part of Gustav.
