Evening everyone--

My STITCHES ITCH!!  Got my knee straight as an arrow still, and it's everything I can do to keep from reaching down there and ripping off the bandages and just start SCRATCHING!!  Hopefully it'll get back to normal soon--have to go over this weekend and have it checked out.  Dang, it's fun running around like a Pirate with a wooden leg, LOL!

Took Lowell for his daily injections, the Vet looked at me as I limped in with the cage and said, "I don't know who's worse off, you or Lowell."  "Oh, shut up," I muttered.  He's going to do a blood test on the little fellah at 9 tomorrow morning, see if his BUM is kinda-sorta normal, and if so, I might be able to just take Lowell in 3 times a week.  It would be nice.  He's still eating about 4 jars of Gerbers every day, and he can still jump up on things, so even though he's lost weight, his muscles are still working.  Still sleeps on my pillow.

Stray cat has moved into the back yard.  Yah, of course, I ran her off, LOL!  She's been here about 2 weeks.  Little bitty thing, kind of sand-colored, has a 'meow' that could break windows.  She must weight about 3 pounds or so.  Looks as if she's part Abyssinian.  I thought she was feral until about three days ago, now she'll come up to the picnic table and let me scratch her ears while she eats me out of house and home.  Hm.  Here I go again.  If she keeps hanging around, I suppose I'll have to take her over to the vet and get her checked out.  Spooky will have a fit.

Jeff:  Aw, man, I LIKED that 'S' curve.  I've got one on the Sub, but it's a 34" radius, so I don't have to slow the trains down to 0 mph to get through it.  But yours looked really graceful.  Did it give you fits?  They can, I know.  I have a 4" straight section between mine, so the cars have enought time to recuperate when they go through.  I like the replacement, though.

Fergie:  MYGAW, ANOTHER brass loco?  And what a sweet-looking 2-10-2.  Well, that's it, if there's a reason for tearing out and rebuilding, it's those long-wheelbased brass locos, let me tell you.  Your third, right?  Hey, buddy, only 47 more to go and you'll be kinda/sorta up with me, LOL!  Better get an articulated next time so you can blink when the second set of cylinders stays under the firebox as you go around curves and the boiler overhang looks as if it's going to cause a nosedive.  Brass is AUTHENTIC, you know, heh-heh.

Well, that's about it from Sunnycal (104 tomorrow).  School starts Thursday, seems my short-lived 'retirement' has filtered through the incoming choir members.  God only KNOWS what the first day is going to be like!

Best to all, prayers to those in need.

It was playing havok with some of my stiffer locos and it had a couple od dips in it that would cause some of the longer cars to uncouple. I finally got fed up with it and said today's the day.

Jeff:

Actually, good on you.  Nice as it looked, it doesn't help at all if you can't get trains around it without having to worry all the time.  Hope the new section works well for you.

I just rolled several cars through it and not a one even as much bumped on anything. And I don't even have the ends soldered yet.

I'll have the Salmon dinner with Garlic Mashed Potatoes and Veggie of the day. Thanks!

***Jeffrey, since you asked, I'm with Fergie and others who liked the S curve. I also understand the potential for derailments, but that's what your MOW crew is for, right? Wink [;)]

***Tom, good to hear of Lowell's improvement. As for strays, wife seems to have a new companion, a male golden-collie mix, (if we had to guess). She calls him "Rebel", I still call him "Go Home Stray Dog". She is going to have him "fixed" soon, which would make it official I guess. Our other dogs don't much like him, as he is a youngster and they are all old now and prefer to be left alone.

It rained so much yesterday and last night that water was actually flowing from the overflow pipe of our pond today. And the creek is flowing beautifully. Even washed the gate out, which I'll fix tomorrow before Twister (our water horse) sees the opening between pastures. Can't tell you all how happy this makes me. I was so dreading having to pump water and shift critters around with a dried up creek. Fay remnants gave us a major rain indeed. Cool [8D]Thumbs Up [tup]

I now have the rail ends soldered together and I just ran a test train made up of my pickiest loco and cars over the area and they worked flawlessly. I label this project a success.

Good evening to all....a nice stretch of weather here, so many outside things are getting done so that I can get back to layout.

Sealed the driveway today and tried out this new Airport Super grade stuff, what a nice job it does, and, you don't have to stir it either!! I used to get that tar all over my old sneakers and cloths when it splashed up, or when you poured it from the 5 gallon pail.

Tomorrow, we have 2 bushels of tomatoes to can in the morning, with food prices the way they are, I don't want anything cutting into the MRR budget.

JEFF: Better keep an eye on Gustav, it will be taking aim at the Gulf coast in three days, and quite possibly LA. It will be at least a CAT3 by then.....bad news!!!

FERGIE: Nay, nay, the Red Sox BEAT the Jays on Sunday, and today they beat the Yankees. HOWEVER, the Jays finally beat the Rays, so a hearty thank you!!!

RYAN: That is one funny looking Char fish on your grill ...LOL Your going to confuse the heck out of CN Charlie.

Time to hit the sack, see you guys tomorrow,

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Let it come. I'm far enough inland that most hurricanes don't have much force left by the time they get here. Rita was the first in many years.

Good evening....

Colby.... your olympic aspirations are inspiring.

Packers.... good to hear about your football. Yes, it's hard work, but I think you will be rewarded for your efforts. In school.........oh so many moons ago....I was defensive tackle, and I recall all the hard work.

Jeff ... you certainly have been productive between the SD9 and and the track re-allignment. I could see the S-curve could be a problem due to zig zagging. There needs to be a straight section between the reverse curves of at least two car lengths in my opinion. Let me guess, you are not an excessive TV watcher, and you have better stuff to do with your time than TV.

Rob ....It sounds like you are getting much needed rain.

Dick ..... that's a lot of tomatoes!

Happy Model railroading.

PS .... who woke up Duke?

Good work there Gav. Looks like we've both been doing layout work.

Good morning.

It's 75 and mostly clear here. The high should be in the mid 90's and it will be mostly cloudy.

Yesterday was a productive day. I put nickel silver wheels in my Athearn SD9 and I tore out an annoying 'S' curve on the layout and laid a new section of track that's decidely less problematic. The old section put a big strain on the couplers of some of my stiffer cars that don't have much coupler movement (Genesis cars mostly) and on some of my stiffer locomotives as well. I started the project at about 6:10 pm with the tear-out and had the new section in and operational before 9:30 pm. There's still much work to be done but the hardest part is behind me now.

Good morning,

Looks like we are getting a storm from Jeff's area it was moving north through the Ohio River Valley.

Jeff, that S curve looked cool, to bad it was an operational headache.  I like the overall picture of your layout, looks "busy" the same appearance I want with my layout.

I started working on waybill cards for the layout last night.  Then I stared at the track I started to lay last weekend.

Morning all Been busy working again . Just got looking at some of my messages in ebay and notice there up to some changes again and heres a big one I don't know if you have all noticed but ebay will not let you accept money orders or checks anymore come october.

I was looking at the latest message from ebay in my ebay messages and was shocked to see that come october you will not be ableto receive or pay via checks or money ordeer for items you buy/sell. They want you only to use credit cards or debit cards and pay thru paypal or other electronic paying companies. you can see more in the post I started on forum entrance

Morning, Diners! Zoe, how about some waffles, maple syrup, and a cup of coffee, please? Thanks, Jeff.Smile [:)]Thumbs Up [tup]

Jeff, I like S-curves too, but not if they're gonna give me operations headaches and tie up the MOW crew on a daily basis.Oops [oops] But you said the new line runs well, and that's the final test of things in my book.

Gav, looks like you've been getting a bit done on your layout while the 'wee ones' have been out. When do the lads return in large numbers (and noise)? Our local university here in town is packed to the gills with students, and had to 'take over' (probably rent/lease) a local private housing place next to campus for the overflow from the dorms. Good that you'll have the protective guard along the edge of your layout, as that track was a bit close (for me, anyway).

I see Ryan's firing up the grill for lunch already, eh?  That 'Char'-broiled chicken looks tasty - I'll have to save some appetite for lunch, then.

Rob, good to hear you're getting some of that much-needed rain your way. I'm sure your critters will enjoy that.

Lee, are you making your own waybills on the computer, or by hand? I've seen some on NMRA-related websites, and I think there are some car cards that the MR website has. I've also heard of people who use the card system that Micro Mark sells, and have been thinking about going with those. Fill us in on what you use and how you like them, okay?

We have a couple of Diners in process of being 'adopted' by stray critters, I notice (Tom, Rob... Whistling [:-^]).

Tom, the itching is when the healing has started, but it sure can be maddening to deal with, can't it? Good luck with school tomorrow!

Garry, maybe Duke woke up when I sat down in the back booth ( a bit hard?). Or maybe we were talking too loudly and laughing - that'll sometimes wake him up, depending on how much lunch he's had...Wink [;)]

Ah, my waffles are here - Terry, let me join you there, and we'll share the syrup bottle.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Good day gang!

Hope everyone is doing well today. Prayers to those that need them!

The ex is going to be here soon to get the rest of her crap out of here. Sooner the better I say. So, if she gets here while I'm on here, off I go till she leaves.

On a good note, Kim (the ladyfriend/neighbor below me) has been in very close contact with me. Aww... who am I gonna kid here.... lol. Actually, she's flirting even more so now than on Saturday, and has even hinted at her desire to date me. So, who knows. Maybe I won't be single for long. Ohh... look at that. There's a email from her now asking me if I'd accompany her to a bbq at her mom's place, if she has one on Monday. Of course I have to say 'yes' otherwise I loose out on a chance to spend time with her.

Well guys, I'm off to get some things done around the apartment before the ex shows up. Once she leaves, I'll have to clean it again as I'm sure it will be a mess.

Take care!

The new track section is in place. Now for the ticklish part. The areas where the rails were cut is fairly difficult to get at to cut under the rail ends. So I'm having a spot of bother getting rail joiners in there. What I'm going to do is simply this. I'll clamp the rail ends in place so they line up precisely with each other and solder a piece of iron wire across each rail joint on the outside edge of the rail. After the area is ballasted it'll hardly be noticeable. Have I done this before? Yes. How many times? Twice, and that was many years ago.

Morning Gang: Well I got up early ( for me that is ) and went in to the VA for my doctors appointment. She said that all my tests were A+ and my BP and blood sugar were about perfect. HOwever my weight was up a pound+. I really do need to loose some. I was 209 this morning and I can feel it.

The buzzards were standing around the south side of the pond. Of course they took off when we arrived. I looked all around the pond and the feld and there was nothing dead. I guess they just came to see what we did. Buzzard #1 "Hey what do you all want to do today?" Buzzard #2 " Oh I don't know." Buzzard #3 " How about we all go and hang around the Beverungs and give them a thrill?"

Well I need to get to work. I worked on the 1.5 inch flat car last night. The couplers come un-assembled and need some machine work. Getting them that way saves big bucks. A pair ready to go is about $55, unassembled it's about $25. I got one post set but the post hole digger hit a layer of very hard clay in the second hole. I guess I'll try soaking it in water and see if I can lossen it up. The hand digger just bounced off also.

Take care all.

Wow!! [wow] Jeff...that was quick! Great work there on the track redux! Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup].

When I put my mind to something, it gets done. I'd been planning for a while to do that, I just had to wait for my physical condition to be just right so I wouldn't run out of energy right in the middle of it.

Tom I think you missed these when you were out last week and I wish they had come out better.
