***PC & JR, how about another scene of a local police with gun drawn removing an engineer from a loco that has been idleing in an intersection too long?Laugh [(-D]

***Lee, perhaps vintage sounds better than "old piece of cra_".Wink [;)] Although it would look nice at night on the wife's layout, not sure it's really worth that much change??? Here's a pic...

 Any thoughts?

Construction is back in full swing this morning (bang bang bang), so I was up at 7:00am, like it or not. Wife is still snoring away.Mischief [:-,]

Discovered a front tire is completely flat on the tractor this morning. Dang, add it to my list.

Had to bring in Ms BeDowntown last night, as she went lame. Looks like some pretty nasty hoof cracks. She will likely be in the barn for some time. Will get some Farriers Formula later today.

Have a good day all. Cowboy [C):-)] Rob

Thanks Trainsrme1

Talked to both my mom and dad last night and there still is no word on what exactly the problem might be, but his blood enzyme indicators for the pancreatic cancer have gone down and are lower than before so that is good news. After running an MRI, a CAT scan, and an ultrasound in the GI area there shows no signs of any tumors or such, but the docs are still running more tests, took more blood and are running more screenings. He is scheduled for more tests and procedures for Friday too and should know more information by Monday of next week. So the saga continues, but the docs said that they may remove the gall bladder anyway, just have not decided when yet. At least he is not in any pain, but this has been drawn out for over a month now. So we are still in a holding pattern with finding out the cause of the pain from last month.

Thanks to everyone for your continued prayers and thoughts for my dad!

Paul glad that your feet are better now!

Jeff hope you mom feels better real soon, you are an angel for taking care of her!

Good day gang!

Hope all is well with everyone today. Angel [angel] and wellwishes to those in need.

Had another meeting with my real estate agent yesterday. My mom and I went and looked at 3 houses with her. As it turns out, the last one I look at, happens to be the one I make a offer on. Here's a link to the house. Check it out and let me know what ya'll think of it. http://www.cnyhomes.com/Listing/Search/info.cgi?mlnum=191705 Outside of the paint inside the living room and kitchen, it's a nice house both in and out. have to go to a meeting w/ the real estate agent now.

EDIT - as of 1400 (2pm EST) the link has been updated. Sorry. Sad [:(] I did not go as far on the website as I should have. Please forgive me? Thanks! Big Smile [:D]

Take care!

Hello everybody....

I've not had chance yet to go back and catch up on all the posts. I must sat that you guys are among the world's finest individuals anywhere. I have looked at messages addresed to me regarding the posts after my return from Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville, TN. I am truely thankful. In general, model railroaders are the best people in the world. I am thankful for the Lord's mercy.

Typically, it was a model railroader (Dan) who took Shelley to Nashville after the helecopter picked me up. It was a busy day for Dan because earlier, he was part of the attempted rescue of a drowning victim. When I was released, another model railroader (Gus) drove to Nashville to pick us up.

Regarding a couple of questions from you. When the battery in my device runs down, the surgeon will replace the entire device. It should last about five years, and by then technology will have advanced so that a newer unit is preferable. My exercise instructions are to walk.

So far, my layout is idle.

Prayers for Ryan's Dad and for Jeff's Mom. Alos for any I missed when I skimmed over the posts.

Blessings to everybody and thanks again for your kindness.

PC, the problem with railfaners is the bad apples in the group that get too close or fail to respect private property; unfortunately the few dishonor the many.

JP, that link took me to the main page, not the house.

Garry, that's a lot to go through to replace a battery I hope it all works out for you and if the Doc says walk then please do so.

Jerry, that is a fine gift you got so many years ago.  Is that a static model or can you power it?

Sure, Lee, all Jerry needs is to whittle him out a motor and some fine (wooden) wires, a NWDC (National Wooden Decoders Corp.) decoder, and...Whistling [:-^] (Just havin' a little fun with ya!)Wink [;)] Sometimes 'vintage' just means that the price doubles, too. Shock [:O]

Jerry, that is a really nice-looking passenger train set for that time period, with a surprising amount of detail. Of course, today's models are overall better than those when you or I were kids, too, but they cost more than back then did.

Jeff, I guess that's a good sign that your Mom's coming along if (even over-medicated) she's putting up a fuss, right? Good thing she has you around to help her with things. Now to get her all healed up. (Did you bring along any MRR mags or stuff to work on there?)

Paul, good to hear that you have other options for your feet than those boots. If the last pair from Wally World lasted and wore well, I'd expect the next pair to do likewise, too. Thumbs Up [tup]

Garry, you follow your doctor's recommendations and get that walking (and anything else) in, y'hear?Yeah!! [yeah] That thing with your defibrilator/pacemaker/thingee sounds about like computer printers - had someone tell me that with what you have to pay for printer cartridges today, it's cheaper to just get a new printer (and he wasn't far off, on a strictly financial basis...).Banged Head [banghead]

JR, did you have to come home to get some rest? Trips (work or vacation either one) can drain a person at times. Good to sleep in your own bed, too.

 pcarrell wrote:

Hear, hear, PC! Indeed, we don't want any of that 'thinking' goin' on around here! Whistling [:-^]

Rob, you have to get your wife to show you where that spare pair of earplugs is, or whatever else she's using to be able to sleep through the a.m. workers...Zzz [zzz] Hey, tell me what that TrekDeck thing you mentioned earlier is, okay?

I stopped by H-L earlier today to see what their new arrangement in the MRR aisle was like. Looks like they may have a few new WS figures, about a half dozen CMW vehicles (in N and in HO scale), are cutting back on their W-S modules (which in our store here, never appeared to sell that much), and have (yay!) put their built-up structures together by scale (HO together on couple/three shelves, couple of shelves of N scale, couple of shelves of O scale). I think they may have some 'new' (not carried before) W-S figures, too. FYI for those with a H-L store in your vicinity.

I also got by the NHS Hobbies website to take a look this a.m., and I like what I saw there! Thanks to whichever Diner it was that mentioned them. Thumbs Up [tup]

JP, the house looks good (and which room did you consider suitable for your train room?). I think it's also good that you have a wood-burning stove - if heating gas prices go up a bunch this winter, you could use the fireplace for heat, and move  to that room to conserve My 2 cents [2c] and energy. Hope you come to a suitable agreement on the price. Yeah!! [yeah]

I'll grab a spot in the window booth before they all get taken. Lemme scrunch in there, PC...

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Colby - so, how much of your summer's loot will you be using on the layout, and how much for other things (gas, oil, girlfriend, etc., you know...Whistling [:-^])?

well this summer I made $1k. $500 goes to the bank the rest I keep. umm I think that $350 goes to the layout. I've already spent $100 on a game for me and my little bro (it's the same game cause he would use mine. guitar hero for netendo ds) what remains will either go to the layout or be spent as things come up. no girlfriend........ yet and none waiting in the wings either.

as for the layout it's self total investment I would gess at around $900 thats including material to build the tabl, track, paint, rolling stock, locos, buildings, power packs all 5 of them. (power packs 2, 3, 4 were thanks to jeff (jeff one still works I have that as a back up))

and that $900 investment will grow with every train show I go to.

see you in the cab

Hey Jerry! Thanks for the thoughts and prayers! Just been working on my detail parts, machinery tools, and oil tanks, a few minutes here, an hour there, no big progress reports on the layout though.

Here is the latest progress however:

Nice looking house JP!

Keep in good recovery there Garry and thanks for your kindness as well!

Thanks PC! It sure has the doc's running around scratching their heads! We should know more beginning of next week, but we've heard that one before!

She's home and resting comfortably. I took some Enterprise DVD's over there so I'll have something to watch when I'm not on the computer. There's no place there that I can work on any of my projects, especially my latest one which requires some soldering.

Someone has a AHM MKT box car on the bay for $79.  I just asked them if it was brass or gold.

We really don't need anymore excitement, but we just called the Sheriff because we have been threatened. A man said he will burn our house down. Here's the story. We have been selling an RV trailer, and a young couple (full of tattoes) said they would buy it and made a non-refundable deposit. Later, they changed their mind and asked for the deposit. We sad it was non-refundable, but we generously offered to return some back after the trailer sells.  We said we would deduct cost of selling to the next buyer and and other costs that may occur since they broke the deal. That was about 4 to 6 weeks ago. Today he called to say that he and his girl friend had been in a motorcycle accident, and needed the deposit back to pay some of their medical costs. Shelley told him had not sold the trailed yet, but when we do, we will still refund part of the money even though we are not at all required to do so. He got mad and said he expected the full amount returned immediately. Shelley said "No", and he said he would burn our house down. Now, the Sheriff is handling the matter.

Meanwhile, I have long way to go with my recovery from the hospital stay and need rest.

My layout is still idle.

Happy Model Railroading.

I just looked through my snail mail from today and found that part I've been waiting for to complete my latest project has come in. That's to have two Proto 2000 locos driven by one decoder. The locos have already been rewired to pick up track power as a sixteen wheel unit and send it to the decoder which will be in the A unit (FA-1 chassis with a FT-A shell in this case) and the decoder will power the motors of the A and B units. The B unit is a FB-1 chassis with a F7-B shell. The stall tests say this should work.

Evening, Chloe - a slice of that apple pie with some vanilla ice cream on top, please, and a cup of coffee. Thanks, Packers#1, and a tip of the cup for your accomplishment! Thumbs Up [tup]Yeah!! [yeah] Today the Rams, tomorrow the Packers? Hey, I figure you wouldn't mind if that happened down the road, right?

Garry, I'd keep the Sheriff's number on speed-dial for your phone, with Angry Bubba making threats (even if he is in a cast and not able to act on them...). As you said, that's one more kind of excitement you don't want or need now. Might not hurt to tip off your neighbors so they can keep an eye out for Bubba, too. That, and a surrounding posse of Angel [angel]Angel [angel]...

We're getting rain at the moment (and had some lightning and thunder a few minutes ago), as this front works its way through. Jeff, I guess you were done with the main part of that storm and decided to share it with those of us up north, huh? Wink [;)] It's okay, as our farmers and gardeners around here can use some rain.

Ryan, both that tank and the lathe look good great. The tank almost looks like it belongs on my short line (with a bit more weathering, that is). The lathe needs a little messing up, perhaps - almost too clean so far... Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Hey, Lee, for all I know about 1940's model trains, maybe they did use wood frames to fit over a chassis. Couldn't prove it by me, Confused [%-)] as I'm not old enough to remember that far back...Whistling [:-^]

Well, Diners, tomorrow Sigh [sigh] I get to rejoin the world of w**k. Maybe that's why Dick hasn't been in - since I wasn't working for the last week, they shut off his internet! Shock [:O] Well, I hope it didn't cut back his check too much.

Didn't get done with nearly the stuff I'd wanted to do (clearing the dining room table, for one). Today I did get confirmation that the DVD burner drive I bought off the 'Bay shipped today, so in about a week or so, I'll get to put that into the old drive bay sled for my laptop. Gee, we all seem to find more projects to do, right? Jeff's getting his engines ready for decoders, Ryan's getting his yard shop area whipped together (inside and outside) with the lathe and the oil tank, JP's hunting down a new train room (and house to cover it) - what's everybody else been up to this week?

Back to my pie before PC hears there's pie and gets in...Tongue [:P]

Blessings on everyone's start of the weekend tomorrow morning,

Evening gang!

Chloe - How about a nice big hot fudge sandae w/ whipped cream, nuts and a cherry to boot? Thanks! Keep the change too!

Well gang, guess what! I got the house! My agent just called and we've come to a respectable offer and agreement for it. Currently, closing is set for the week of Oct 7th. So, between now and then, if I am not in much, it's cause I've got to pack up the crap here and get it ready to move to there.

Ok gang, time for me to go sit in the corner booth w/ JimCG and eat the sundae!

Take care!

Just a tall glass of cool water, thanks.

***Garry, send  them out my way...I know of a hole plenty deep enough for both of them to never be seen or heard from again. Could sell their bikes off after the burial and send you 50% of the proceeds, too.Evil [}:)]

***Ryan, cool lathe there. Wow!

***Sawyer, Congrats on making the team.

***JP, Congrats on the new house. I don't envy your having to pack up.

Discovered the builders had already done some of the siding and didn't use any tape around the windows. SoapBox [soapbox] I went out and taped the upper floor windows this evening before dark and will run to HomeDepot tomorrow morning to pick up some more to finish taping the front windows (which will receive the most wind/rain/etc). At least the windows they sided around are under the deck where rain can't reach them. But it seems like cutting corners to me. I believe it is all those extra little things that has made my studio so energy efficient and kept the power bill so low. Perhaps builders don't normally do these things unless asked?

Evening Gang: My feet ae better today: I went by Wally World and picked up a pair of arch support in soles. They seem to help.

Garry there is a tree on my sons place that was used to take care of people like that. Good thing that the sheriff is taking care of it for you. You do need to lie the neighbors know what is going on. The more eyes, the better.

I spent the day working on fences. The fence by the road that we cleared all the brush from is in sad shape. I patched it up so the cows won't get through it but it will have to be replaced. I'll wait for cooler weather to do that. The rain has stopped and the humidity is high. The temps are still below normal so that helps a bunch.

Packer congrats on making the team. What position would you like to play?

JP that is a nice looking house. I like the yard. Let's see a full basement means full of trains, right?

Well it's time for bed.

Good Night All

Good morning......2 minutes after midnight east coast, so I guess that makes it Friday already. Been real busy here now that the rains and TS's have stopped. A BIG Canadian High pressure system has finally settled over the area and we have had 4 days with no rain and at least 7 more to come so they say. The garden is really producing now after all the rains this summer, and finally full sunlight for days and days and late August daylight.

And I have been working on the front of the former single garage entrance on the front of the house. The old wall was taken down and a new 2x6 wall installed as well as a new Marvin window that will be far more efficient this winter, and a new full size door instead of the 75" height door. I couldn't find any hardboard siding anywhere, so I had to have a lumber yard mill down 1X10's to make 5  boards to complete the siding. The house needs painting, so with the new front down, that made a perfect time to do that.

I don't like being up so high on ladders anymore, not because of fear of height, but fear of my knees!! The list of projects is still high.

JIM: Yes, you guessed right, too many projects got delayed due to the rainy weather here this summer. I try to stop in the Diner, but as you can see it's midnight, and I am on the computer for the 1st time today, or is that yesterday.

FERGIE: Yup, the guys are having trouble with the Jay's, I just can't figure out WHY the darn Jay's can't beat Tampa!!!!!!!!!!! The long range forecast is out for the Winter. Much colder over most of the area, so how is your wood supply? Or do you burn dried seaweed? LOL

ROB: Yes, the contractors ARE cutting corners. The window that I just installed called for rubber tape around the whole window, and flashing at the top also. And I also installed DOW house wrap paper, I hope your contractors are doing that also before they install the siding.

DUKE: WOW, I love that mountain layout photo, is that impressive or what???!!!

JEFF: Glad to hear that mom is back home, I know that she will do fine with you to take care of her.

I am dead tired, so I am headed for the sack, temp is now 60F, so excellent sleeping weather once again tonight.

I brewed another pot of coffee for any late comers to the Diner...see you guys later,

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! ***Dick, they are using house wrap, although not (IMO) as good a product as TyVek, which is what we did my studio in. Nope, they did not tape any windows. The ones under the porch will not see any severe weather, so I can live with that, but the others certainly should be, I think. Upon doing some research, I found that it is custom to tape the sides and top only of windows. If memory serves me, I did all four sides on the studio windows. Anyway, guess I'll need to start watching the contractor who is watch the workers.

If I didn't mention it, I went ahead and bought that LL passenger circus car for the wife. That is the LAST purchase for awhile now.

Need to hit the hay. Have a lame horse in a stall to check on early. Night all. Cowboy [C):-)] Rob
