Afternoon Gang:

G: Welcome to the diner.Sign - Welcome [#welcome] No secret club here just a bunch of guys and a gal trying to survive. Can you give us a bit of a bio on yourself? We're noisy.

Lee if you'er going to be sending out boats I would sure like to have something like one of those Army ST 45 footers. They are neet looking little tugs and would be just about the biggest thing I'd put on Possom Kingdom lake, or Lake Texoma. I'd like to see the look on the faces of the lake paytrol guys when they saw it.

Not much going on here as usual. It's only about 92 this afternoon. No rain today, maybe Friday or Saturday. Lee you could send some down with my tug. Do you need a DD 1149 for that also?

I need to go and do my eye drops again. Four times a day untill they run out.

See you all later.

OOPsss, TOP. Well you all have supper on me. There goes my MRR money for this month.

Whistling [:-^]

Hi Gang,   Zoe, howabout a rootbeer float and some guacamolie chips.

Welcome to Galaxy, new members are always welcome, but be sure to tell us something about yourself, your interests, desires and layout, planned or existing.

WE were out at the lake all week-end and I managed to get a book read that I have been meaning to read for along time.  That being "Playing with Trains"  by Sam Posey.   -- Boy, what a great read.  Gave lots of insight in to the names in the game, that we run across all the time in MR. & MRC.   If any of you haven't got to it yet, please plan on doing so, it is very enjoyable.  He knew right away when his wife told him that she was pregnant that he was going to build a layout, and sixteen years later it was completed. In the meantime being very busy at the race car circuit and sportscasting.   I recommend it to you.

Just received  a RTR set of F7s in the WP freight scheme. Haven't had a chance to run them yet. But that tops off my F7 roster.  4As freight, 3As-2Bs for Zephyr service, 1A-1B - DRG&W.Then all my tunnel motors, that I don't want to count as my wife might find out how many there are.   Ha Ha . And can't forget my four steamers. (Tourist train power)

It's always great reading about all your adventures you guys get into. And there are some real "Dandies"  But all is quiet here, work is getting busier. It has been a slow start to the summer but tourist traffic has picked up this last ten days, so that helps the day go quicker. I guess they all waited to see if the fuel prices were going to come down and when they didn't much they thought they would travel anyway and not give up their summer vacation.

Keep smiling, it looks good on ya.

Afternoon all.  Haven't been in for a week or so, thought I'd check in and see what's going on.

Mini-heat wave out here in SunnyCal again (which means fog on the coast), supposed to get to about 103 here by the weekend.  Which means not much work on the MR in the garage--can't really raise the door to air things out when it might warp all the track on the Sierra Buttes, LOL!

Been taking Lowell the train-cat over to the vets every morning for his saline drip.  He has his up and down days, today was an up.  I asked the vet if he thought I should just let it go, and he said no, that Lowell was still perky and he still had one pretty good kidney.  I've got him on baby food and Nutrical to keep his caloric intake up, and he still has his appetite.  I'm kind of at an impasse--I don't want him to suffer, but I don't want to let him go until its absolutely necessary.  The vet assures me that right now I'm doing the best thing possible for the little fella.  He sleeps on my pillow every night, now.  Purrs up a storm.  So I guess that right now I'm doing the right thing.  We'll have to wait and see.

But DANG, it's hard to let go, even if it is 'Just a Pet'.

Been watching the Olympics, or as we refer to it out here, the "Michael Phelps Show."  Good God, that guy is incredible.  I think he's got gills.  But there's Canadian, Norwegian, Korean and Japanese swimmers who are giving Phelps a real run for his money.  That Korean, Park, doesn't swim, he SKIMS!  Some amazing swimming this year, it's absolutely THRILLING!

But what's with those NBC commentators?  Watched a qualifiying swimming relay today and all those two idiots could do was talk about the American swimmer (who was running a distant third at the time) and ignore the Canadian (who won) who was cutting through the water like a PT-boat on STEROIDS!  I mean, this guy was FANTASTIC, and they're puttering on about the American being his first Olympics--hey, FINE, and I'm glad he qualified--he ended up coming in a close second--but how could they completely ignore that incredible Canadian?  At least when ABC covered the last summer Olympics, they focused in on the athletes equally, no matter WHAT their nationality.  C'mon, NBC, grow UP!  I know we want the best for our own, but it's an INTERNATIONAL competition!

Okay, end of Olympic rant.  I've started just turning the sound down and going visual.  Still jumping up and down everytime Phelps slips that 6'4" frame of his into the water, though.

Been working on a troop train--trying to find enough flat cars for the military vehicle kits I bought.  Spooky's been helping me.  Ever tried to pry a Sherman tank out of a Maine Coon's mouth?  Lotsa fun!  One thing--she doesn't like the ones I've painted.  Don't blame her, Olive Drab just doesn't look very appetizing at all.  Anyway, that's my new project, since I can't get out into the garage and finish the Buttes right now.  6 troop cars, a Pullman for the officers and about five flat-cars worth of equipment.  Saw a photo in one of my Rio Grande books, and it looked pretty cool.  We'll see.  And all this was being hauled (downgrade) by a Rio Grande Mikado.  Now THERE'S a train for you.  Or at least me.

Well, back to the TV, Phelps is about to kill me again.  Dang, I wish my high school had a swimming team when I was young and slender.  I'd have Michael Phelpsed myself all over the place.  Kid just blows me away!

Best to all, prayers for those in need.

Tom

Hullo folks... Party this Saturday, one of the guys from KC & The Sunshine band is coming. Never knew my parents had an interesting life...

Here's a True Story from the Missouri Pacific... One of the best... Should make you laugh...

There's a town along the Missouri Pacific with 6 grade crossings. One day the crew of the way-freight was working there. The conductor was having drawbar problems while trying to couple. there is an FRA rule where a train cannot block a crossing for more than 5 minutes. After 10 minutes the Sheriff had gotten several complaints so he sent his new Deputy to straighten things out. The Deputy showed up beside the locomotive and demanded the engineer move the train. The engineer radioed the conductor and asked if they were ready. The conductor denied since he was still having trouble with the drawbars. The Deputy ordered the engineer to move the"Goddam' Train." "I have men back there," replied the engineer, at which point the Deputy, infuriated, climbed up onto the loco. The engineer locked the door, and watched amused while the Deputy tried to open it. The Deputy drew his gun, and the engineer, realizing the game was up, unlocked the door. The Deputy cuffed him, and put him in the police car. He locked the engineer up in the jail cell, and walked over to the Sherriff.

"Did you get the train situation figured out" inquired the Sheriff.

"Yup! I got him in the cell right over there!" said the proud Deputy...

"How many of your mother's children lived?" asked the Sheriff.

"Huh?"

"IF THE ENGINEER IS HERE HOW WILL THE TRAIN BE ABLE TO MOVE?!"

The Sheriff walked over to the jail cell.

"Can you move the train yet?"

"Yes I had just got the signal to pull ahead."

The Deputy was ordered to bring the engineer back to the train. Once there, the engineer "thanked" the Deputy, and climbed back into the locomotive. He got back in touch with the conductor, and the train pulled forward, coupled up to the rest of the train and left. Upon arriving back at the Sheriff's office, the Deputy was immediately fired.

Couldn't happen to a more deserving person. We still have eight-balls like that in law enforcement. I know. Sometimes I have to work with them.

Well, I got some welcomes here! Guess I'll pop in once in a while.

Anybody want a grape tomato or two? or three or four? 20 or 40? I built a raise brick planter out front a few years ago with a pond in it. I used potting soil, top soil, sand, and peat moss in it.Usually it gets flowers, but this year I decided to plant the tomato plants there.

The grape tomato is like Little Shop of Horrors! NO JOKE- it has grown as big as a car!!!!!!!!! ONE plant!

And forget "feed me Seymour"...it got one shot of miracle grow when I planted it! That's all!

On the side of the house with Miracle Grow every month, never got anywhere near what this thing has done!!!!

So...who wants some???

A tall glass of cool water with lemon, thanks!

***Duke, thanks for posting the pics. Best part I see in that idea is not having to fully assemble all the wife's circus kits.Laugh [(-D] Do love the elephants raising the tent idea.

***Tom, your questioning regarding Lowell is natural. We have some "pets" here on the ol' farm, and other "family members". Some four leggers just have a way of tugging on ones heart strings. Each one we've had to help out has told us when it was time. I dread each and every time, too.

How about some pics of that troop train?

***Galaxy, is the "Little Shop of Horrors" plant in full sun? Different soil?

Tis' raining lightly here. Some water coming into the build where they didn't finish the roof yet. Oh well.

Picked up the other half of tile and unloaded it into the workshop. Then made a hay run. (miss having the tractor already). Exhausted, going to go veg in front of the TV awhile. Night all. Cowboy [C):-)] Rob

Good Evening All,

So ok Galaxy - what scale would the demented grape tomato be?

Duke - nice pics, love those bridges even if they are a little fanciful. Isn't Northlandz the place in New Jersey?

Jeff - I think Tom would take some of that water off your hands. Glad you didn't need to use the ark.

Tom - as long as the vet thinks your friend is doing ok then I'd just enjoy the time you have left together. Been down this path with a couple of our dogs and it is never easy and you never forget them either.

Rob - the Lima cars should have conversions available from Kaydee. if not you'll have to add the whole pocket and coupler after cutting off the offending parts. Not all that hard, but a bolt on conversion is a whole lot easier.

Jerry - will we get to see pics of the new (N) digs?

Got out to the Roaring Camp Railroad and rode behind the Shay up the hill. Impressive! especially the bit with the 8%plus grade. Makes it all serious business. Sat  in the end of the car and watching the couplers go full angular extension side to side was wild also. The wooden buffers between the cars have marks from the cars touching each other on curves as well. All in all a fun outing. Back to Laguna Seca tomorrow for the start of the big weekend. Catch y'all later.     J.R.

Well, I promised some folks that I'd get my pics of the Indiana Fair Train up.  I shot them yesterday, but I was beat so I didn't get them up (that, and I lost my internet connection).  I got some great exterior shots of NKP Business car No. 1, including the underframe area!  Anyways, here they are!  Rather then posting a bunch of pics, I'll just give you all the link to the online album.

Thanks.

PC ... Here's one of those CB&Q baggage/lounge cars such as the one in your photos while still in service on the Burlington with skirts still attached. The train is the Twin City Zephyr. The E5's are my favorite diesel locomotives.

Good shots.

Soem excitement from today. Yesterday we pulled off a pair of coaches since we wouldn't need them NOone rides on a Monday...And we proceeded to darn near strap people to the locos. the Salon was almost full even. So today, they decided to re-attach the coaches, just in case. As we leave Fishers, 426 revs up, we lurch forward, and stop. I stick my head out the vestabule to overhear "You pulled the train apart Bob!" Somehow, when they coupled, they hadn;t fastned the knuckle right, needing to pull in a way they didn;t. The Air Hoses came outm and the brakes applied as designed. But today was a Monday.

Evening, Diners - just a quick stop by to mark my place so no one thinks I'm fertilizer for Galaxy's Tomato-that-ate-Chicago (okay, maybe it didn't, but have you noticed fewer stray cats around the neighborhood, Galaxy? Hard to believe that thing is still going on the shot of miracle grow....Whistling [:-^] And Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to the Diner, by the way! Thumbs Up [tup]

I see somebody woke up Duke (and lived to tell about it?) - I'll have to look at Duke's and everybody else's pics later (probably tomorrow night, my battery on the laptop is under 40 percent at the moment).

Alex, good one about that deputy - and our local MRR club member who's running for sheriff in an adjoining county might agree with that take on some of his fellow deputies...(and maybe the current sheriff).Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

BridgeTom, is there such a thing as "just a pet"??? I don't think so! Having a purr machine by your pillow sounds like it would be good for your sleeping.

Oh, Ed - if you're peeking in the window, I sent you an email back. Thumbs Up [tup]

Busy day (VERY) at work yesterday, so today was excellent by comparison. and Friday I start my week-long vacation. Yeah!! [yeah] Never can tell - I might even get some MRR'ing accomplished for a change! Laugh [(-D]

Well, I'd best get going - Chloe, how about a go cup of hot cocoa, please, since Paul's buying? Thanks!

Blessings and prayers for those in need of 'em (That'd be a lot of us, huh?),

Garry - Those redwoods are some impressive no matter where they are. After 40 years of not seeing them in person, the Sequoias last year on the run to Yosemite were just awesome. My daughter was for a moment, speechless - maybe the first time ever!  J.R.

Good morning.

The temp is 75 and it's mostly cloudy. The high today is expected to be around 90 and it will still be mostly cloudy.

Yesterday was great! We good quite a bit of rain. One inch in the morning follow by another half an inch in the evening. My parents grass is going to go absolutely nuts! Which is a good thing, because I get $20 every time I cut it. It's not much but when your total monthly income is under $700, you take what you can get.

I got windows in another wall on Rix kit building I am working on..Anybody put any Rix kits lately I had a time getting the window cut out...I build one of thier one track engine houses in HO and I don't remeber it being so hard to cut..but my fingers weren't so old and stiff back then...

COLBY: You must have had a slow Summer at Life guard, Maine has had so much rains up your way. My son just spent a week at Bar Harbor camping, it rained all week.

Later,

no. not really we have a few crazy kids that show up in the rain, even if we close early cause of the rain us life guards still get paid for the hours that we didn't work cause of the rain. So I'm not complaining. and today is the first sunny day we've had for a week and a half, we get paid every wensday, life as a life guard is good as long as mom and dad don't make me pay rent.

BTW: thanks for complaments on the new engine, it's the largest one I have and I had to build a siding just to store is on my layout. It does not fit on my T T which is a bummer but my steam loco roster now totals a whopping 3 engines.  I'll have the largest RB float I can get and the chicken finger basket.
