Good morning all.

Thunderstorms and more rain for us on the North Coast with 68F for a high.  I have 3 vessel exam appointments for this afternoon.

Garry, I have 9 more hoppers sitting on the table here waiting for new couplers.  The yard ballasting was my big project this week along with installing the ground throws for the yard.  I didn't want a "clean" yard so I added some bushes, grass, and some brown taconite ballast to the tracks.

I've been going to the train shows and garage sales picking up targeted items for the past 6 years or so and I don't keep track of what I bought.  1st year I was buying turnouts for $1-$2 each. 2nd year I bought building kits, 3rd year I bought those hoppers for $1-$2 each.

Morgan, thanks.  I know Dale has a ton of videos at his house, but none have any detail to them.

TrainsRme1, Nope no Hobby Lobby on the west coast, sorry.

Thanks Terry.  I see one of the ore cars I bought (used) has 2 different types of trucks under it.  Looks like it's going up hill.

I still have some touch ups to do in the yard and I have to figure in a cab track and a MOW track on the west end of the yard.  I also have to clean the house before company gets here on the 14th.

Good morning.

It's 78 and mostly cloudy here. The high should be in the low 90's and there's a chance of thunderstorms later.

I kept myself busy yesterday reorganizing my DVD collection. Maybe today I'll get around to cleaning off the parts of the layout that I haven't been working on and seeing if there's still scenery under there.

We've got 4 dogs already, I don't think my dad wants any more. Thankfully we've got a big backyard. Our dogs:

a corgie (or however you spell that)

a wire-haired terrier that may have beagle or coccer spaniel in her (my dog)

a lab, hound, and/either birdhound or dalmation (he's gonna be a big dog)

a tiny little min-pin, chiuwawa, and might have pug.

Our dogs' names are Diana (corgie), maria (my dog), Bullseye (the huge one), and penny (the min-pin). main reason we have Penny is that back in Januarary or Feburuary, my sister's Jack Russel-chiwawa died of an allergic reaction to a tick bite. You shoulda heard her screaming the morning after. Then when we got bullseye for my little bro and other little sister (I'm the oldest), they saw peny, and so when she was old enough, we took her home.

Quick drop by before a roast pork lunch with the 07 Blackberry wine (this year should be a good blackberry year too).  Rob, you asked about the Atlas TT.  There are two approaches tha tI know of.  First and more complicated, is to bury the thing, using the table as a motorized, indexed and polarity sortedout base for a pit sitting n top of the Atlas. The second, the route I took because of laziness, and lack of space below the site for burial, is to add details to the flat acre of snow-shed boards.  My model is N Scale.  In HO you've fewer tracks, and may have to add some dummy leads off.  I includeda bride, an operator's house, and some repair work to get the eye away from those dull boards..  Here's more detail o thte repairs.  I avoided the working figures, mainly because I didn't have any!

Hi Gang: Just a quick one and I need to get to working on the shed again. I looked at the temp out front yesterday and it was 108f in the shade. That's the last time I do that. Not mush else going on.

JimCG: I pulled the pump out the other day and will collect the hose and pipe today if the heat doesn't get real bad. I don't know how much good it all did but maybe it helped a bit.

Well I'd better get going and get something done.

***Der, mine is also N scale. (I have N, the wife has HO) I won't actually start that project until the train room is done and I have build some shelves and moved everything in. Sure have seen lots of great ideas here. I might fall into the "lazy camp" as well, we shall see when the time comes. I'm not known for having an excess of patience.

Afternoon, Flo - I'll have a burger,

cheesey fries

and a root beer float, please.

Thanks!

A beautiful day in Cape Girardeau today - only 85 F now, with humidity down in the low 40 percent or so. Nice breezes last night, too! Smile [:)]

Rob, I like your thinking there on my buying habits. I do have another pickup and some IH R-190 flatbed trucks to haul some of the equipment in - but as you say, if I get more workers...Whistling [:-^] Sounds like your li'l bull has some spunk to him, huh? Have he and the neighbor's bull gotten into it before, or was it that the fence used to be in better shape before the two of them got to fussing at each other?

Lee, I like your yard there! Thumbs Up [tup] Of course, I also like your sanding and fueling station, and your string of ore cars, and... Hope you get all of Murphy's leftovers cleaned out before your 'show' evening.

(Shhhh!!) Oops [oops], sorry Duke. Didn't mean to wake you again. Go back to Zzz [zzz] (Gee, he falls back to sleep quickly...) That turntable modification that Duke found and posted was another one than I recalled, so I'll have to check and see if I have the one I was thinking of, stored on my 'puter.

TransRMe1, I checked H-L's map, and you'd have to go to Montana, Utah, or Wyoming for a Hobby Lobby 'fairly close' to you (and we're playing fast and loose with the definition of 'fairly close' there). They have the eastern three-quarters of the US covered, but for whatever reason, none on the west coast. If you really want to go to a H-L, the Montana one is in Billings, and in Utah there're three, with one in Logan. Sorry!Sad [:(]Sigh [sigh]

PC, that's a great sign to keep parents on top of where their kids are at all times. Laugh [(-D]

Jeff, what've you got going this afternoon - did Lee inspire you to go back and clean up some areas on your layout, or do you have other projects on the list?

I'll join Terry in the back booth - hey, Terry! We better keep it down, or we'll wake up Grumpy...Angry [:(!]Wink [;)] Hope everyone's having a useful and productive weekend so far. Yeah!! [yeah]

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

A tall glass of cool water, please.

***Jim, the fence is in real bad shape along that one area. About a dozen or so new posts aught to do it. Thank goodness their bull is on the creek side and has a steep back to keep him from making a go at the fence. One more thing to add it to my list.

Pouring down rain here and 60F (burr-chill)!  Jeff if you run out of rain give me a call I'll send some down to you!

Jerry, that is a Walther's ice house and platform kit (even came with blocks of ice).  Minus paint drying time that is a model you can assemble in 1-2 hours.  I have a total of 45 hoppers, 31 ore cars, and 21 gondolas.  I'm not sure how many I can drag at a time, but several of the industries will need these at their spurs.  Coal and Iron Ore are the two prime commodities moved on my line.

Jim thanks.  Dale and Alex will be over in the morning and they are more into: teach me how to....... So if there is soldering or track adjustments needed we can get those out of the way before the second group shows up.

I examined 3 vessels today and it started pouring cats and dogs as soon as I opened my pen, go figure!

if you get the chance check out the paper flagman PG 106 in Model Railroader or visit www.railsonwheels.com/ors  It's like a flat Stanley for switching operations.

Our good deed was to give away an old car to a friend of the wife's from work. They needed one and the old Roadmaster was only providing shade to the weeds growing around it. Wife was glad to get the gas-guzzler out of the yard while helping out a friend. Belonged to her Dad originally, prior to his stroke.
