***Dick, that's alright about the circus train. At least picking up that Atlas S-4 and other items probably made you feel better, eh!Wink [;)] Having lost my mother to B-Cancer, that pink car is a wonderful idea. Hope lots of them are sold.

I've been a bad boy: Realized I dipped into the art/printer fund when I ordered that 0-8-0. ((OOPS)) It's OK though, my 3 items on the-bay are all going to sell and can replenish what I borrowed. While on the topic of selling: Would you rather have ONE of the newer (N) Intermountain F-type untis (FT,F3 or F9) OR Atlas F9, Atlas/Riv. C-Liner, two MP FA-2's and two BevBel F7's? I figure if I sold all those older models, I could surely replace them all with one of those fancy Intermountain models. My two BevBels actually run very nicely, but don't look as sharp as the Intermountains. What to do?

Another question: Anyone have any of those (N) Life-Like plastic 1950's model cars? Are they any good?

Good afternoon ....things started off with full anticipation of getting some great shots of the Circus Train arriving on the main line at Palmer, Ma. Then my wife said oh ohh as she read the morning paper, and I knew that was a bad thing. It seems that the reporter covering the story in yesterday's paper said the parade would be today at 3:30, which means the train would be coming in today. HOWEVER, the newspaper printed a tiny errata at the bottom of the parade pictures stating that the parade was YESTERDAY !! Grrrr %#$#$%#$!!!! Angry [:(!]Banged Head [banghead]

We went to the LHS anyways and I bought an Atlas S-4. It is a B&M carrying the number 1274 which has a bit of history attached. This loco was in Springfield, Ma in the engine house when a fire broke out. They got some of the locos out onto the turntable, but 1274 didn't make it and had to go back to ALCO for repairs. The kicker is, it was an RS2, but after repairs were made, it was also upgraded to an S-4 with a one of a kind paint scheme. I also bought an Athearn GP35, NYC, a NYC 100 ton Hopper, and a twin pack Walthers USRA Gondolas. Thank you George B!

My eyes caught one box car on the shelf immediately as I walked passed the Athearn cars. It was solid PINK. Upon closer look, I saw that it had the ribbon for *** cancer and other markings on it. Bob explained to me that the RR owner ( I forgot which one out in upper midwest ) lost his wife to *** cancer, and thought what better way to honor the loss of his wife but to support the *** cancer research fund by advertising it's cause this way all over the country. And, Athearn contributes a portion of all sales to the cancer fund. $15.95 guys. At first I thought FERGIE had designed a new box car.

Bob also demonstrated the C&O articulated loco that just came out, and all I can say is WOW!!! You should hear that baby, they have the sounds of everything down cold!!! Every throw of the pistons would cause a puff of smoke out the stack, right in time with the chuff. You guys just have to go see the demos of this even if you aren't buying one.

ROB: Sorry Rob, as you can read above, the doggone train arrived yesterday, reporter got it wrong, no wonder newspaper companies are closing, they can't even get dates right!!

PAUL: I thought I heard someone come in the back door last night....you caught me at TOTP !!!

JEFF: Your dad certainly got his monies worth from that pump !!!!! Usually the Chlorine does such a job on the pumps that they have to be rebuilt after 10 years of use. What size HP is the pump ?

Later,

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Coffee in a VIRGINIAN mug, please & thank you!

***Jim, I have yet to order anything from our LHS, or should I call it LIS (Local Internet Store). They never responded to a single e-mail and they are just far enough away that cost of gas becomes a consideration. I ordered the N Unitrack & HO truck from onlinetrains. The N 0-8-0 is coming from tophobbytrains and the Berk is coming from another e'bay vendor. I've had good communication from all and both locos are being tested prior to shipping. Hopefully they will arrive in excellent running shape. (fingers crossed)

Attached are pics of 3 layouts I've been looking at. Wouldn't mind combining aspects of all three, although not sure how that would be done. The last one belongs to someone here in the diner, correct?

Perhaps most important (to me) is to start with a single door layout, leaving room for expansion. The first door should stand as a complete layout all it's own, incase expansion never happens. Would like to have a couple trains running continuously while allowing for a little switching at the main industry. Confused [%-)] Any suggestions and help will be most appreciated.

Today is a historic day! My father and I were working on his ancient in-ground pool pump to try and find out why it wouldn't keep a prime. It didn't take us long to find out. The inner seal is rusted out (no surprise there, it's only forty-some-odd years old) and there's no way to repair it. So he has ordered a brand new pump assembly, complete with motor and external hardware. It should be here Friday or Monday.

Morning, Zoe - Oh, Dick still has the TOTP? Evil [}:)] Sure, I'll have scrambled eggs, 'near' bacon, toast, waffles, a cappacino, and couple of slices of ham. Oh yes, and a tall glass of Ed's OJ, glass of milk, and a cup of coffee (for washing it all down - the cappacino will be for dessert). Thanks!  Dinner [dinner]

Dick, that's some 'fish tale' about the shark - not sure how the guy could get the shark to leave (without getting her angry with him, and wouldn't want that as that shark gets bigger... - just ask Roy Scheider! Shock [:O]Wink [;)])

Garry, I sent you a note through the forum on that hobby shop with the billboards. Check your email.

Lee, that hobby shop guy you found, sounds like a good deal, all right! Thumbs Up [tup]

Paul - your son's switching to hernia gauge? His eyes aren't going bad that early, are they? That's the usual reason for moving to larger scales...Wink [;)]

Rob and PC, better make sure your CFO's are taking care of themselves (as Paul said). Whistling [:-^]

Another sunny day here, looks to be up in the mid to even upper 70's F this afternoon. As a co-worker said this morning "...and we have to be inside working today." I guessed wrong on how cool it would feel this morning, so I'll probably take the coat home when I go for lunch later. Cool [8D]

Rob, I bet your LHS guy you ordered the stuff through was wondering if you copied some info down wrong when he saw the truck scale vs. the track. Is that layout design you mentioned the Woodland Scenics one? I noticed that they have one or two of their layout-based scenery kits (not sure if that was the Scenic Ridge one or not) on sale in the Walthers sale flyer (this month's or May's one). I can check when I get home tonight.

Yesterday afternoon was hectic with a bunch of little things to attend to, and 3-4 somewhat silly calls in the last hour or less. I decided to treat myself to dinner out at Panera's as a result. Yeah!! [yeah]

Still waiting for my billboards order and my assorted LHS order to come in (probably some time the end of this week or in next week). How many billboards would be too many for a Southwestern-located RR, I wonder?

I'd best get to my breakfast for now. See you all later!

Blessings and a sunny day for you,

I'll have the baked Salmon, mashed potatoes & steamed veggies. So what if it's 5:40am!

***Dick, that sounds like a photo op for sure. My wife has plans to model a Circus themed layout and would certainly enjoy seeing the pics. Is this the same circus train will all the assorted flat cars with beautiful wagons and such that has had films made of it?

***7.5" & 15" gauge, somewhere between models and the real thing.Wink [;)] Curious, is 15" much more stable with fewer derailments perhaps?

Evening Gang: OH BOY Dick has the top. I'll have the top sirlion with baked patato, salad with blue cheese dressing. Make the steak medium and low salt. Also a bottle of Merlot. Thanks Dick.

Rob you make sure that you lady takes care of herself. I know how hard it is to get them to do that.

Not mush going on here. I bought 24 unmachined wheel castings from John. He wanted to get out of 7.5 inch gauge and is going to go to 15 inch gauge. Talk about hernia gauge. I took the tractor in for it's 100 hour check up. Sounds like I took it to the doctor. Heck it would probably be cheaper if I had. The contractor came out to fix up the pipe line where it settled. They did a good job and left me with a half load of good top soil that wasn't used. I'll move it to storage in case there is mor settling. I started to clean out the shop so I can get started on painting the new 7.5 in gauge cars. I also need to hange some new light fixtures. Tomorrow I need to go over to the track and clean up the steam locomotive. Since it should be hot to get the boiler cleaned out good I may steam it up.

Well it's late.

Good Night All

Only one page today??? What is going on? No Fergie, Luc or John for days (weeks?), CNCharlie and David are OOA, where is everyone these days, Spring fever?

I just found out that the circus train is coming to Worcester, Ma tomorrow, and the parade of the Elephants is at 3:30pm. And we were headed to Palmer to the Steaming Tender tomorrow at the Diamond....ahh ha...if I time it right, maybe I can get some photos of this train coming through. The weather is supposed to be good too. I am hoping the train comes by the station at about 11:30 to 1:30 on the CSX main line

***Philip, that is great news about your wife & son. Sending continued healing thoughts their way, (and saving some for my wife who needs them as well).

Today was our second day of an extreme diet change (at least for her it was). She goes back to the Docs in 2 months. 485 cholestrol...that's frightening. And with renewed crazy inlaw stresses, this is a timebomb and worries me.

Now the Train News: Ordered another (N) Berkshire, this time from a different vendor who test ran it and said it was smooth and quiet. We shall see. (fingers crossed) Also put in an order for a (N) Proto 0-8-0. Both of these purchases are upgrades are to replace those vintage locos of same designation I'm selling on the-bay. I thought it was nice that one vendor I ordered track from wanted to check with me before shipping, as I had all N scale track with 1 HO truck. That little pickup truck should put a smile on the wife's face and she could use one right now.

Layout: Thinking of a basic "Scenic Ridge 2" as a starting point, adding an extra outer loop and some inside switching area for the main factory. That is as far as I have got...still trying to make a plan that works with room for expansion (second door) later on.

Hope everyone is having a nice evening. Cowboy [C):-)] Rob

Afternoon all,, just stopped to leave with a thought for today.

Woman and a Fork
There was a young woman who had been diagnosed with a terminal illness and had been given three months to live. So as she was getting her things 'in order,' she contacted her Pastor to discuss certain aspects of her final wishes.
She told him which songs she wanted sung at the service, what scriptures she would like read, and what outfit she wanted to be buried in.
Everything was in order and the Pastor was preparing to leave when the young woman suddenly remembered something very important to her.
'There's one more thing,' she said excitedly.
'What's that?' came the Pastor's reply.
'I want to be buried with a fork in my right hand.'
The Pastor stood looking at the young woman, not knowing
quite what to say.
That surprises you, doesn't it?' the young woman asked.
I'm puzzled by the request,' said the Pastor.
The young woman explained. 'My grandmother once told me this story, and from that time on I have always tried to pass along its message to those I love and those who are in need of encouragement. In all my years of attending socials and dinners, I always remember that when the dishes of the main course were being cleared, someone would inevitably lean over and say, 'Keep your fork.' It was my favorite part because I knew that something better was coming...like velvety chocolate cake or deep-dish apple pie. Something wonderful, and with substance!'
So, I just want people to see me there in that casket with a fork in my hand and I want them to wonder 'What's with the fork?' Then I want you to tell them: 'Keep your fork the best is yet to come.'
The Pastor's eyes welled up with tears
of joy as he hugged the young woman good-bye. He knew this would be one of the last times he would see her before her death. But he also knew that the

young woman had a better grasp of heaven than he did. She had a better grasp of what heaven would be like than many people twice her age, with twice as much experience and knowledge. She KNEW that something better was coming.
At the funeral people were walking by the young woman's casket andsaw the fork in her right hand. Over and over, the Pastor heard the question, 'What's with the fork?' And over and over he smiled.
During his message, the Pastor told the people of the conversation he had with the young woman shortly before she died. He also told them about the fork and about what it symbolized to her. He told the people how he could not stop thinking about the fork and told them that they probably would not be able to stop thinking about it either.
He was right. So the next time you reach down for your fork let it remind you, ever so gently, that the best is yet to come.

Stopping in for a few... This cold/cough kept me out of school again. School is kinda terrible workwise at the moment... I finished my 5 Page History Essay, but have an English Essay due Friday, and a Math Essay, Poster, and architectural model (yay, scratchbuilding) due next Wednesday. Sigh [sigh] I don't expect much after that but this will be a busy week.

Good afternoon.......the rains have just about stopped here finally, we received 2.65" of rain so far. I was very happy to see that NO ONE was killed in the 3 Tornados that hit Virginia yesterday, first reports had one person killed and 200 injured.

LEE: That is one great deal, how does this guy do it for those prices? Does he buy repair jobs from the factory, repair them and then resell? I can't see how he make money selling them at so low a price. But if they work OK, who cares !!

Today, seeing we can't work outside, it is inside maintenance day. I have to clean both woodstoves and pipes seeing the heating season is over.

I sent some of you guys an email that I received this morning that is stunning!! A French magazine ran a story with photos of a "love affair between the fisherman and great white shark. It seems that the shark was caught in a fish net, and this fisherman freed the shark. Now, everytime he goes out fishing, the shark comes to his boat, allows him to rub her nose and belly. Of course he has one problem, no fish, the shark scares them all away. He doesn't know what to do. I can't beleive the photos of the guy and this shark.

If any of you guys want to see the photos, let me know.

Afternoon all,

Chilly here this week, I was enjoying the 70's weather and now we have been plunged back into spring with 30F - 40F temperatures.  My Mom went with me to that train show with good intentions to buy me a challenger or a mallet.  She couldn't believe how much they cost, matter of fact at the $1 rolling stock table she questioned why I was scraping up everything the guy had.

Economy HO stuff:  I did email the used locomotive vendor, he lives in FT. Wayne, IN.  I look forward to hearing back from him for some "offseason" sales.  You can't beat challengers and mallets at $86 and that 0-6-0 I bought for $30 sells in Walther's for $151.

I also made a deal with the bulk ballast dealer from Akron, OH to sell me ballast off season, you can't beat 5 pounds of ballast for $17.

I also found a source for LED lights and dwarf signals @ 50 cents each.  Need to add hoods and a base for the dwarfs, but for 50 cents I can do a little work. The owner of this company is into HO-Scale trains and has modified several of his projects with these low voltage high intensity LEDs.  I've downloaded several of his step-by-step project guides.

So once I make these contacts if anybody is interested I'll gladly shoot you the information "off diner".

PC defiantly good news about your son, pretty soon he will be running all over the place.

Garry, we will keep you in our thoughts and prayers while you are gone, do drop by and tell us how things went.
