Hmmm, I really haven't been paying attention.

My 1000nd post was 12 posts ago...

WOOT!

Anyways, Rob: I'll be getting a video because a friend of mine is always whining about not having enough freight cars and too many locomotives, but now I have 30, and 2 cabeese of good quality (Roundhouse/athearn or higher, except some weathered and weighted blue boxess) which he says was when he'd stop whining... Funny thing is, I have a higher freight car to locomotive ratio than him now, mine is 3.33333 freight cars for each loco (30 freight, 9 locos) and his is 3.181818 (70 freight and 22 locos).

That made him a bit mad.

Mark

Unless someone posts under me, this is the TOTP...

Yeap, it is the TOTP. Alright, order up!

Apparently two posts got deleted...

We got more rain last night and still this morning, the drought must be over by now but the weather guessers still say we are in a drought! Confused [%-)]

Yup! I see you done got cought with the bill yesterday Sue! I typically end up away from the computer on the weekends, what with working in the train room, walking for exercise around the neighborhood, and doing some spring planting in the yard. By the time I make it to sitting down I'm bushed!

Good Morning All,

Rainy and chilly this morning. I'll have a regular to go and a glazed donut please Zoe. Sounds like Lee and Mark had good times at the train shows. Nice acquisitions also. We launch the new truck to Atlanta this morning and are beavering away to finish the 5 additiional cars going to Lime Rock this Friday. W..ked all weekend so I haven't even caught up posts. Must be racing season.

I did manage to stabilize the kitbash Merchants III enough to move it to the bench and fitted a section of roof left over from a factory kit to keep it in one piece. Now to paint and detail the store fronts Add the rest of the panels and glazing, etc. All I need is some time to do it, but that's in short supply just now. Gotta run, I'll try to drop in later and y'all have a goodun. J.R.

Good morning all,

Sounds like Mark made a good haul as well.

No mask, but I do feel like I stole that 0-6-0 w/dcc from that guy, heck still in the box locomotive for $30, I feel so bad but he gave me his card and I'll just have to keep buying stuff from him, lol.  He had a nice mallet for $86.

Anyone from the Muncie or Ft Wayne IN areas? Next Ft Wayne train show is 29NOV018, 14MAR09 and Muncie is 28FEB09.  Need details just ask?

Looks like snow this week.  I think it's Terry's fault for commenting on snow fall last week. (just kidding)

Tall cool glass of water, thanks!

Wow, some of you have been acquiring some good stuff. Wondering if y'all had to dicker with the sellers much to come away with such deals? Pics please!

Kicking myself. After a good heavy rain producing thunderboomer came through tonight, I expected to find the storage tank outside the studio would be at least half full. Level hardly changed from this morning..."downspout is packed with leaves". Gurrrrr! Add that to my "mandatory List" for tomorrow.

I find it difficult to resist buying one of those Intermountain F7A Santa Fe Bluebonnet's. I could certainly sell some of my vintage F units to pay for it. But how can I justify doing so when there are still some way cool steam locos to be had? What to do, what to do???

Long and rather unproductive day...exhausted...Good Night!

The trainshow was good.

Two buildings, and few people, and some good deals.

We only were there for 2.5 hours, but hey, it was worth it.

I spent $104 and picked up 15 freight cars (one was a door prize!)and a caboose-A couple BB's, some intermountain and P2K and athearn (Everything was more than half off) and some atlas. I love that dealer, always good deals. Gave my friend a free passenger car when he bought a GP9 with DCC for $55 and two passenger cars for $20, so he got the 3rd free.

After viewing a bit and buying, we got to be guest operators at the 4DHO Modular SIG. They let us have the outside mainline, so Charlie got his new Geep and 3 coaches and I pulled out 15 freight cars and the big boy, and we drove around the setup for an hour. It was really fun, and NOTHING derailed. Nothing. Not one thing. No shorts. I could've run the beasty at full throttle all the time if I wanted to. But anyways, my mom got video of the big boy on the layout, and lots of people stopped to see it. Anyone who walked by and saw and heard that beast rolling down came and watched. I stopped her a couple times for people to take pictures, and I slowed her down so people could look at her and the cars I was pullin', mainly because my two gondolas had odd loads: One a rack with a bunch of wheelsets, the other copper piping.

Alot of people got enjoyment out of my engine, including a four or five year old who saw it and followed it around for 45 minutes out of the hour we ran.

See y'all later.

Evening Gang: We slept untill 10:15am this morning. I guess I was really tired. The only thing that I did all day was feed the cattle and go over to the track to pick up the seats from the gondolas. Other then that I vegged. I have to download the pictures that I took to the computer. I had started earlyer but some thing went wrong and it didn't work. I'll do it again when I get off the forums.

It sounds like Lee may have taken the pirate thing a bit far at the train show. Boy what a haul.

Well I'm going to cut out and get to downloading the pictures.

Hello everyone:

Dick asked: "GARRY: It's a good thing that car didn't let go along the ridge tracks above the Nenana river just north of Denali!!! You would have been in the river!!"

Yes, it really could have been somethng with a trainload of petroleum products. We'd still be hearing about it sort of like the Exxon tanker that spilled its cargo. The imploded car was aboiut 30 cars behind the locomotives in a train of maybe 75 cars. My trip was to Fairbanks in the loco of the passenger train and back to Anchorage in the loco of the tank train. It rained all the time. I could hardly see anything. Pictures were horrible. It was almost as bad as being in a bus from Kamloops to Vancouver instead of aboard the Rocky Mountaineer. Oh well.

Also, Dick ...... You asked about FP9's. I have the FP7's made by Atlas a number of years ago in NP colors. They run great, but don't look as good as today's models.

Sounds like Lee got some good deals!

Chessie!! Like the picture. I'm going to see about trimming the post later, if it works...

Well guys, I'm back from the show, had a good time. I won't bore you witrh the TF stuff unless you ask except that I found some more bots for putting up on the layout. Went by Golf Manor, got some cool stuff, some Roundhouse kits of a Promitory Memolrial boxcar, some Patriotic old time coaches, dad got some things too. And, an American Orient Express. 300, but they'll let us Mail-Order layaway it WHOO

Made it down to Johnny's toys, used to have some train stuff in their Green Hills store. Now gone. But the Covington KY store was awesome. Got a Hubert's Williamette Pacific DARE car. They have a floor-ceiling display of engines. There's a model a guy built of a Revell Big Boy with three sets of drivers under the boiler and a longer tender.

Hobby Store Endangered List

Ohio Valley Trains in Milford, went there too. Used to have a lot of HO. They still stock mucho G and O, but the HO is really suffering. Yu should go. Good prices, they need the buisness. And the prices are incredible. I made out with 2 Proto BL2s, DCC plug equipped, for 33 each. So I suggest making the trip.

I went to the Toledo train show and spent $94 but I brought home:

13 50ton hoppers, 12 gondolas, RS-2 AHM PRR, Mantua Classics 0-6-0 w/DCC, 1 turntable pit w/motor and power supply, 2 pneumatic crossing gates, Walther's Northern Light & Power (new)., and 1 resin cast junk yard.

The hoppers and gondolas: one of the vendors had a 50 cent to $1 "junk sale".  I bought a $25 grab bag and it was filled with the hoppers and gondolas.

I'm stationed shore side, and loving it.

Hope you all have had a decent week-end.  I have spent mine at work. which meant I missed the Car show today as well.

However it is starting to warm up a little and starting ot feel like spring. "Hopefully"

I have bought a squarish picnic cooler ( soft sided) which I have made into a mobile hobby kit.

I can get everything I need in there as well as some kits and my car holder so that on some of the evenings that I work, I can still do some modelling. Those evening I mainly have to unlock for a meeting etc. and then do a lock-up after it is over. The time in between  is free time other than keeping an eye on the door. So this works great and boy the time sure goes faster as well.

PAUL, That sure sounds like a neat railroad you have going down there. Lots of physical work though to keep the maintenance up. And now you have a lady "Hogger"--- Oh the injustices that we guys suffer.   YUk Yuk   Just kidding girls, Don't get you bloomers in a knot.

Can hardly wait to get off today as I will be going home to Bar-B-Que.  Not going to stay at the diner tonight.  Not even going to ask what the "special" is.------------- What is it??

RJ.   really glad to hear that everything is working out for you with the move and job. Boy it does teach one some patience though.

Cape Jim:  We have heard that Paul's Grandbaby is doing great and taking train rides already, so fill us in with your new Grandbaby too.  And how is the Grandmother hunting coming along ??

Fergie and Lee,  How long are you guys back on dry land for??

Fergie:  Sure impressed with those new CPR cabeese, but not enough to forsake the Wobbly.

Well I had better get things in order to here to do a lock-up so will sign off for now.

Keep smiling, it looks good on all of you.

Downloaded the free version of AnyRail. Has (N) Unitrack and is quite intuitive (I think). Too bad it only allows 50 sections in the free version. Seems a very good product and was fun while it lasted. But with limited funds, I'd rather put that $50 price tag towards acquiring more track.

Has been raining very lightly on and off today, barely enough to water the pastures. We'll take whatever we can get.

***Dick, we live up on a hill, so flooding is never a concern. The pastures have only flooded 3 times in the 10+ years I've lived here. Usually takes a major hurricane to hit the coast and continue up to north GA as a heavy rain producer and then stall out over us for a couple days.

What is your street address, I'll look you up on the Satellite view on Microsoft's 3d view. These views are fantastic, if you put in Michael Ave, Cherry Valley for instance, you can see my house so well, that you see the gardens out back, the blue tarp covering my woodpile, even the sky lights and solar panels on the roof!!! I am in the garden, but I don't think you can magnify enough to see me without blurring.

Probably not. You may want to go smaller, grain of wheat or grain of rice. These bulbs are the same size as those in most HO locos.

Hello everybody...

If you're interested, I posted a picture in the imploded tank car thread. I took the picture after I was riding in the locomotive of the tank car train from Fairbanks to Anchorage. As we arrived in Anchorage, the guy in the tower radioed to the engineer that we had an imploded car in the consist. The train was fully loaded with flamable commodities. So, things could have been exciting if the tank car derailed.

Rob, are you getting good thoughts for the layout?

Jeff has antother neat photos with effective lighting.

Lee .... Hope you do well at the show. If you make regular trips to Warren,  MI, you should meet up with Duke who lives north of there. Also, a visit to P&D Hobby Shop in Fraser, MI is a must.

Happy Model Railorading.........

A large coffee in a UNION PACIFIC mug, please & thank you.

***Lee, is the rest of your family into trains, too? Have fun and I look forward to your help when you have the time. pm or e-mail if you need any specifics from me. I do think planning for two tables (L shape) with a drop between them for the bridge is the way to go, even if I never finish it in this lifetime. Tempted to forget about the bridge all togther...just don't know. Thanks!

***Jeffrey, that is a cool night shot. What did you use for bulbs on that one?

***Dick, if you have any extra, send it down our way. It has been sprinkling here, but thus far the good cells are all missing our valley.

***Jerry, nice pic. I can't tell if Tootie is having fun or really concentrating or both?

I have attempted one last order with onlinetrains.com so hopefully their system will maintain my order and not have to refund my payment again. More N Unitrack for me and I added the HO version of an old pick-up truck to surprise my wife. She had been looking at one in N scale saying how it reminded her of one of our neighbors trucks and a must have for her layout. He's a crazy fella who talks to his dog (nothing unusual there, so do I) but his dog "talks back and tells him what to do". Wife thinks he's dangerous, I just see him as potential fertilizer.Wink [;)]

After that sick Berkshire, I'll looking to try again with another vendor. My pfreference is undecorated, but haven't found any in stock anywhere that don't cost an arm and a leg. Tempted to get the "Virginian"...Anyone know where I can find the history on it?

Mornin' all!

Dark Roast this morning ladies please and thanks.

Im still workin away on my background trackside building (scratchbuilt). Its a slow patience filled process, but im hoping to be satisfied with the building in the end. Im leaning towards a tropicana facility as i will be modeling CSX. Ill post some photos later of my progress, but for now, im gunna go read the newspaper and enjoy this nice coffee.

Happy Model Railroading,

Keith
