Evening Gang:
Jeff my deepest sympathys and prayers. It's hard to loose a friend so young.
PC your son is lucky to have such friends. My best to your wife also.
Rob actually the Milw Rd had a passenger train that ran to Ontanogon which is up in that country. It wasn't a Hiawatha thourh. Of course it's my world so I'll make it so.
Dick I guess we need to slow down abit. Any idea on how to do that? I guess the price of diesel may slow me down some but it could make things harder also.
No Mrring today again. I did get to the basement but not to Mrr. It seems that the mice have returned. I put out sticky traps baited with penut butter. I howp that they get caught soon so I can clean up the layout and maybe do some work on it.
Time for bed. Speaking of bed I've been thinking about getting one of those Temperpedic beds. If it works that well I guess it will slow me down. I just won't get out of bed.
Good Night All
Jeff sorry to hear take care my man its always hurts and is hard to believe.
Hi all been a while been busy things moving along (sometimes feels like backwards but thats the way it is . Getting home fianace isn't fun lol thats what I'm in the middle of now . We went back to original home seeing that the other already had a bid and remembered that county assment is usually 75 to 80% of accual value so the price is right in line accually. So were going for the house with 1300 sq feet and has 3 br and 1.5 bath with a den with a fireplace in it.

***Jim, I was being "funny", or at least that was my intent. Now, if your really do create a track plan with 45% grades & un-bumpered tracks off the ends of the table....(I'm kidding again)
***Terry, sleet is kinda neat, as long as your home is warm and you don't have to go out in it.
Question, does anyone have this book: "The Model Railroader's Guide to Industries Along the Tracks" (by Jeff Wilson) and if so, what do you think of it? Does it cover the actual trackwork, including switches, etc... for those industries?
Rob
Now it's(drumroll, please) SLEETING. Sticking to the pretty green grass, too.

sorry about your cousin my thoughts are with you and your family at this time
Good afternoon guys, cloudy, raw, misty day today, but I did manage to get the last 5 cart loads of hemlock mulch spread around the landscape. There is a heavy mist now and very foggy, so I got this done in time.
We had finally replaced our old box spring and mattress this week, and got one of those Tempurpedic Swedish foam jobs that the wife has been after for a year. Last night it got a test. Let me tell you guys, our old 25 year old mattress was just fine for me, but last night I went to sleep at 11:30 and never awoke until 8!!! That is NOT me!! These mattresses are all that they say they are, they mold to your body pressure points and you sleep without rolling over and over all night.
JIM: I don't mind the work outside, it is like Ryan said, it is nice to work outside and it "is" a great form of exercise. Diabetes II has been in my family ( father's side) for at least 3 generations back. I am the first male not to get it by age 50 and I am now 69 and not a trace of it. But, I am far lighter than all my ancestors at 185 lbs. they all went well over 200.
RYAN: I'm with you buddy, I love to work outside, great exercise and really enjoy the sense of accomplishment in the yard and veggie garden. It has worked for me.
ROB: We received only 0.14" of rain last night, but there is a real heavy mist here now, and the rains will be here until it clears on Tuesday. The big LOW that caused all the flooding has stalled out in the North Atlantic somewhere off Nova Scotia, and that has all the weather systems backed up across the country. Thanks for the offer to help Rob, I know that if we lived close, you are the kind of guy that would help in a heartbeat. I appreciate that!!
JEFF: I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your cousin in the accident, please know that our thoughts and prayers are for you and your family members buddy !!!
Later guys,

Like the covered hopper?
Godd afternoon all. I learned something last night. As a train chaser, I stink. Mom came home, said she saw a yellow switch engine midtrain and that the engines looked like they were shut down for the evening. Couldn't tell if it were on a flatcar or what in the 30 minutes it took for me to get down there, (Sure is nice having my own wheels) it was gone. As in, vanished. I hurried toward the yard, spotted a pair of hoppers heading west toward Terre Haute (I hope there was an engine, maybe more train...) he was booking. When I got to the yard, I found the fueling towers full and lined up. Looked like the fuel crisis reborn. Would have made a nice picture, until I noticed the car.
"Ah. A fellow Railfan."
Nope. He's a cop. As I get turned around, I notice he's a Plainfield officer, alittle out of Juristiction. But why chance it. So I slip away carefully (no ticket/warning. Phew!), and head across the bridge in hopes on spotting a telltale yellow roof. No sign of mom's train. Neat shot of the Hump engines working, but I was on a main road. the switcher may have been buried deeper in the yard. But I notice headlights coming into the yard. I try get turned around, and find a nice little inlet. right near the track. I hear him, but I figure he's still far enough down I can park car in the buisness lot adjacent. No sooner than I put it in reverse, but there's a KCS grey ghost and a Southern Belle on point of the Schnieder Express right in front of me and gone. He was in yard limits and hauling aft. And was gone by the time my Easyshare was on. At this point, I decide that the RR gods didn;t intend for me to share any pictures, So I came home.

Time for evening critter rounds here. Rob
Afternoon, Zoe - I'll have my afternoon RBF, please.
And where's Sue? Somebody better let her know the RBF line is open. She probably could stand a break from her yardw**k.

Well, Rob, most of the storm front has moved through, but (Yippee!) there are still clouds, which should keep us from getting any nasty stuff this afternoon. Hey,you want storms, maybe Jeff can send you some from his way... As I said, for the layout help, we'll wait and see what I come up with first, before you thank me.
Zoe, I think I'll have a coney dog with my root beer float, please. Thanks! I'll have it over here in the booth.
Cederstrand wrote:***Jeffrey, looking forward to seeing what you do with the boxcar & gondola.
in a SANTA FE mug, please & thanks.
***Paul, if you mean a Hiawatha passenger train, well, those working the iron ore have to get there somehow. So why not by train? More fun than by car or bus, right? (just trying to help out with your own justification)
***Dick, sounds like quite a day you had. You could always use some of that greese for your joints. Seriously htough, if you lived closer I would have enjoyed helping you with spreading. Did it end up raining much?
***Philip, that is an impressive recovery your son has had. Sounds like the Mrs is doing quite well also. Continued healing thoughts heading their way.
I'll be guzzling my coffee in a corner booth. Rob

PC, how're your wife and son coming along? Doing handsprings yet?
No, no handsprings yet. My wife did walk halfway around our lake the other day before I had to go and get her scooter to get her back home. We have a sidewalk around the lake, so it's pretty easy walking. My son was out with the boys from the neighborhood yesterday shooting hoops. They would throw him the ball and let him shoot it, then throw it back. Meanwhile they were shooting their own balls too. They even played a little two on one. The deal was (and they all came up with this), my son would be the second man on a team, and if his teamate passed it to him, he could be blocked with hands, but no pushing or rough play since his balance is not all that great in his leg braces. So, he got to play some B-ball! Made his day!
Yea Dick, that does sound like some back breaking work there! But hey, working in the yard is one of the things I actually look forward to doing and it's great exercise too!

Morning, Zoe - I'll have a glass of Ed's OJ, and a helping of Bill's breakfast buffet, plus a cup of that coffee, too, please.
Oh yes, and one of those cinnamon rolls, too.
Thanks!
Looks like a wild and windy day today in Cape G.-land. There's still a lot of wind this a.m., and the weatherguessers are talking about a squall line coming through this afternoon. If it's sunny during the day (hopefully not), that may give the storm front more oomph, and possibly stir up hail and/or tornadoes. So those of you east of me, may want to pray for a cloudy day. But after the front gets through, it should clear up by Sunday afternoon here, and be nice again.
Dick, sounds like it's time for you to rest today - since you might not be able to get out of bed anyway, after what your yesterday was like! You and Paul have been working totally too hard for ORF's, y'know...
Gav, hope you get to enjoy your holiday off. Any MRR'ing time in there?
Rob, got your emails and will be working on that some over the weekend. Cute greyhounds you have there!
Jeff, I'm sure you feel lighter after that haircut. Good looking cars there (even before you repaint the UP gon).
Colby, I'd second (third?) what the others said - might as well enjoy the days now. Makes the time pass easier, too. How's your layout been coming along - I seem to recall you were in process of considering some mods to the tracks last time you were in the Diner, correct?
I'd best get back to that W-thing here. I'll try to get back this afternoon for my usual RBF, Zoe.
Blessings,

TOTP Again????? I think I will need a part time job here at the Diner the way you chow hounds eat !!
Ohhh man I need to get some rest, quite a hard day outside today. Worked on the old 1980 Wheel Horse tractor for a good part of the day, scraping the mower bed, repainting it, had a tough time getting the three blades off, then sharpening them with many nicks in them. But the fun came when I tried to use the grease gun. It seems that one of my sons reloaded the hand gun last Fall and did not removed the end seal. He wondered why he could pump it forever and not get any grease out. Well today I found out where all the grease went. After I removed the top of the gun, I saw the end cap still in place, so I removed the cap and there was no grease. It had all been pumped back into the rear spring plunger. When I pulled back the ejector handle, I became the greasee. What a cotton pickin mess!!!! Eventually I got everything done and was ready to call it a day at 4pm when a truck arrived with 6 yards of mulch. With rain coming over night, I wanted to get as much spread as I could, so I managed to load the 10 cu ft yard dump cart 6 times before calling it quits. I can barely move. What doesn't hurt I can't feel. See Colby, this is what happens when your 69, so stay young.
JEFF: Nice haul today, and nice hair do too. I thought you were going to interview for the job on TV of the Caveman's partner??? Just think of all the royalty $$ you would have!! 16X32 pool has about 19,000 gallons of water, the 1 HP pump will handle that just fine. I had a 1/2 HP the first time, but it was undersized I felt, so when it died ( a snake went into the motor and got fried ) I replaced with a 1 HP also.
I am off to bed....see you guys at breakfast,
Evening Gang: Today was one of those nice days that I didn't get a lot done. Mary Ann and I went in for breakfast and then did some chasing for food, and feed. After we got back we had to go back to town to John and Dianes for lunch. She cooked up a great lunch of chicken and pasta. Really good eating. I did get out to the barn and finish up with the light fixtures. Now I have to just put up a couple more over the tablw saw and one of two over the center work table.
Jerry thanks for the words about your cataracs. It has me abit worried. I'm not comfortable having someone messing around with my eyes.
Rob It seems that you have the standard case of Modelrailroadingitis. If it runs on rails you gotta have it. Just look at me with an iron ore hauling railroad and buying all that Hiawatha stuff.
Jeff the Gieco caveman, huh. Well that could be a good deal. I hear that they pay pretty good.
Well I guess I'll head for bed.
