Thought I'd give you all the latest......my wife can "carefully" start to walk again, and my son is healing way ahead of schedule.  The doc said that instead of 4 more weeks in casts he's thinking about taking them off for good next week!  They're going to have his leg braces made this week (they're a custom fit) and have them ready for the casts to come off a week from today.  Pretty awesome, huh?

Evening Gang:

PC: That's great news for both of them.

The county agent came out today with a couple of guys from Dupont. They are going to do a test plot of a new treatment for grass burrs on my neighbors place. That field os really infested with them. After the tes is done some time late this year they will give us enough product to do the entire field.

I didn't get out to Clark Gardens to pick up the trains today. I had to hang around for the county agent. Mary Ann and I are going to go tomorrow morning. We'll stop for breakfast and then head out.

RT: I'm sorry to hear about your IRS troubles. Any chance of getting anything out of the guy that did your taxas? We have always used a certified CPA to do ours. He always gets us a good refund. Now with the gas well and ranch he is a neccesity.

Well it's past bed time so I'll say

Good Night All

***Philip, that's great news! Smile [:)]Thumbs Up [tup]

Not much going on tonight. Made piles of the few different sections of Unitrack I already have, along with sections of Atlas Flex track and some assorted switches. Once I figure out a layout I can live with, then I'll know how many of which Unitrack switches to get. Any switch off a mainline will be Unitrack's, with the others being used for branchlines and such. Ideally, I would prefer to just use all Unitrack, but that would get quite expensive. Coming up with a layout is tougher than I had imagined it would be. If I had a 4' x 8' table, no problem, but that door just gets smaller and smaller all the time. Disapprove [V]

Well, have a nice night all.

Good morning all.

My 100 HO-Scale people came in the mail yesterday.  Unpainted but for $2 you can't complain too much.  I might buy a few of their painted people to see what level of quality I get.

PC, you seem to be having a streak of good luck with your family over there!  That is great news about your wife and son.

Jeff, sorry about the locomotive mix up I looked at the right picture and typed the wrong name.

Rob, you are not the only one trying to cut corners, I'm using brass turnouts for everything except the mainline.

Not True Dick it takes a full bottle to do that . Half Bottle is good to get you to the Stratosphere. NASA did ponder the use of it but NIOSH put the kybosh to it as the fallout would be devastating.

Good Morning All,

Fairly bright out but chilly this morning. Had to scrape ice off the windshield and all. I'll have a coffee and a blueberry muffin please.

Worked some more on the paving last night - I mixed black acrylic and ink in with the plaster but it looks a little too grayish so I'm adding ink and water washes until i like the result.

Lots to do this morning so I'd better get on with it.

PC - keep those good reports coming, we love it.

RT - when it rains......

     I'll stop in later,   J.R.

I got a response back from a researcher who says it's an Alco RSD-4 which was a six axle version of the RS-3. Thirty-six were built from 1951 to 1952. He also says the model was made by either Kato or Atlas. Some Atlas models have Kato drives.

Good morning ........

Dick ... Thanks for explaining avatar.  Do you know the history of the U23B?

Jeff...... Your Alco unit looks like an RSC-2

Alco Road swichers -

RS-2, RS-3 ...... B-B wheel arrangement; two 2 axle trucks, all wheels powered.

RSC-2. RSC-3 ..... A1A-A1A wheel arrangement; two 3 axle trucks with center axles in each truck not powered. Outer axles in each truck are powered.

RSD-4, RSD-5 ...... C-C wheel arrangement: two 3 axle trucks with all wheels powered. Center axle is NOT centered in each truck. Center axle is offset to allow room for traction motors.

Good afternoon everyone.....clear skies today and the temp is now up to 54F after a low of 24F at dawn. Moderate fire danger today according to fire tower report on scanner. It looks like the entire week is going to be clear, that will bring the leaves out of bud in a hurry.

Our bowling team took all 8 points last night, so we landed in 3rd place for $$, LHS here we come!

Did you guys see where Intermountain has come out with FP9's ???? !!!!!! And the CN/CP numbering is the same for a couple of the Conway Scenic RR of NH that I am modeling, so I will snap one or two of those up in a hurry.

As soon as I draw a layout of the lower level of the house, I will post it here for some ideas from all of you. Some of the brightest and creative minds are in this Diner. Duke has posed an interesting suggestion....run a line from the new room to the existing train room. But the new room is in the SE corner of the lower level and the train room is in the far NW corner under the "L" addition. This would be one hellava engineering feat, so much so that it would make MRR magazine for sure if I could pull it off. Suspended ceiling has only 4" of height below the joists. Or, do I run a wall line about 4' off the wall going through walls ( tunnels ) and then somehow into the "L" ( through an existing door? ) Then, somehow getting across the utility room, and boring a hole through the 10" wall to get into the train room. OR, run the line OUTSIDE the house along the siding at the back of the house at sill level. This would eleiminate all the obstruction inside, but this would entail handling rather sharp curves to ( 90 degrees ) in three locations, and somehow getting approvals from wife. Maybe using the covered tracks for planters on top? What do you think Fergie ? Of course I could always go underground also, but now I would have to make it hermetically sealed, but curves would be eliminated and the run would be the shortest.

JEFF: Listen...I "know" you can paint one of your locos with that new paint scheme, we have all seen your work, go for it Jeff !!! Those locos are real sharp in those colors. You can do it !

FERGIE: How does that old song go now....."Mary Mary quite contrary, how does your garden grow. With silver bells and blue bells and millions of #$#%$ weeds" LOL  I hear that 30" radius is being planned for the MESS???

Later guys,

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! I finally got the mystery Alco ID'd. It's an RSC-3. The trucks and body details match to a T. As for who makes it, that's still a mystery. It looks like a Kato drive but I don't they Kato made any RSC-3's.

Good afternoon all,

Chloe, serve me up a plate of that surf and turf, I hardly got a chance to look at it Jeff inhailed it so fast.

JEFF,  You are truly getting to be a "wimp".    42f and you want to stay inside.  Up here that is fishing weather, if only the season was open, we'd be out there.

Haven't been in much lately, as I have been very busy at work. 14 days out of 18, boy I have to do something about that. It doesn't seem like retirement to me.

Going to lay off the computer a little as between outside work now and some modelling I won't have much time for this. other than to squeeze in an odd note from work.

Will check back in from time to time, always interested in what you guys and gals are up to.

Continued best wishes and prayers for all in need. It sure sounds like our ailing friends are healing up fine and that is wonderful.

Hi Gang: I just got in from unloading the equipment at the track. Even with the new transfere table it took 1 hour 45 minutes. Tomorrow I may get over there to help Terry out a bit. There is a switch out at West Fork that needs attention badly.

Jerry the hoppers looked real good. Nice job.

Well I am going to head out. I'll stop in later.

RT: Here is the info you need to pay your Fed taxes...I did some research for you, no charge of course, and I authored a letter that you can send them.

Dear Internal Revenue Service:

Enclosed you will find my 2008 tax return showing that I owe $3,407.00 in taxes.

Please note the attached article from the USA Today newspaper; dated 12 November, wherein you will see the Pentagon (Department of Defense) is paying $171.50 per hammer and NASA has paid $600.00 per toilet seat.

I am enclosing four (4) toilet seats (valued @ $2,400) and six (6) hammers valued @ $1,029), which I secured at Home Depot, bringing my total remittance to $3,429.00.

Please apply the overpayment of $22.00 to the "Presidential Election Fund," as noted on my return.

You can do this inexpensively by sending them one 1.5" Phillips Head screw (see aforementioned article from USA Today newspaper detailing how H.U.D. pays $22.00 each for 1.5" Phillips Head Screws).

One screw is enclosed for your convenience.

It has been a pleasure to pay my tax bill this year, and I look forward to paying it again next year.

Sincerely, RT

A Satisfied Taxpayer

How is this letter RT, does it solve your problem?

Rob, the room measures 15 feet wide by 19 feet long.  The fun begins. Duke asked me if I can run a line from this new room to the existing train room. It "is" possible, but it will be one hellava engineering feat.

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !!
