Evening Gang:
Jeff that's good news about your foot. I hope that it continues. What are you doing to take care of it?
Lee: Every time I see that ore boat I get green. That is a real nice model. I need to get back to work on mine.
I spent the afternoon moeing the front yard and the upper back yard. After that I went over to the track and started to rebuild a switch at West Fork. Terry had done a band aid job on it but it really needs rebuilding with new ties. Working on my knees is really hard now. I could have done this job in half the time 30 yrs ago.
We had a big storm come through a couple of hours ago. Rotation just north of us and about 1 inch of rain here. No hail to speak of and the wind didn't seem to be that bad. We did hear a crash like a tree splitting but I couldn't see anything in the vicinity of the house. I'll look around tomorrow.
RT: I'm sorry ot hear that you place hasn't sold. I really hope that dosen't blow the job for you.
Well I guess I'll head for bed. There isn't much on TV except weather reports.
Good Night All
Good Evening Fellow Dinners!
It's been some time since I've visited this fine establishment but I have peeked in from time to time. If you don't it would be a big job to keep up with all the posts!
Happy to report that it has hit 60F here this week and is supposed to go to 65F tomorrow. I know that probably seems rather cool to some of you but it's all relative to what temps you've had for the past few months. All our snow has melted and the garden clean up has begun. May and early June are hectic months as all the winter clean up has to be done plus buy plants and plant them, get the boat ready and launched, etc. The transition from winter to summer is quite sudden so a lot has to be crammed into a short time.
Ryan, please go back to a more summer-like avitar. Your new one is eerily too familiar. The fewer reminders of winter the better, mind you it sounds like you did have a great time.
Jeff, Great news about your foot. You mentioned that it was 65F there this morning with 100% humidity. We have 28% right now but that won't likely last long. You are so right about the effect of humidity on how warm a particular temp feels.
Jim, perhaps you can send some of your rain up here. It is very dusty with all the sand on the roads from winter and the trees could use a good wash too!
I've just spent some time adjusting the track in my service yard and was able to add another siding plus get rid of a switch back. That is one advantage of sectional track. If you don't like a siding changing it is a relatively simple task.
Well have to get to bed relatively early as I have to work all week-end. I have to attend a trade show, so must put on my smiley face-not easy for a credit guy.

Hello ... Ryan asked: "Garry, you like my new avatar! That's me in the snowmobile suit standing on the Divide from this past Saturday at Winter Park, Colorado. Took the 2 hour guided tour with Monique and Ben to the Continental Divide, thats one of the ski slopes in the background behind me!"
Ryan ... Actually, I've been in that part of Colorado several times. I have skied on the Winter Park slopes back when I could do stuff like that. The avatar is remarkable.
Lee ... nice layout pictures!

Hey Folks!
Thought I'd stop in for a couple of slices of pepperoni pizza and a large hot tea to go. Takin' a break from the workshop, been finishing up a couple of custom Alco RS-3ms for Phil Martin (a fellow member here) and a D&H RS-3m for me, (which I was somehow able to sandwhich an NCE D13SRJ into). The nose/windshield/numberboard/etc castings are my own. I had to do the castings twice as it turned out that the casting compounds I had used had gone off. I didn't realize this until I had the models nearly finished as they are now, except that the paint on the castings wouldn't dry because they were "weeping" an oily substance. I've had this happen before when the resin is too old and the weeping never stops. So it was do over time!
Well I geuss I better get back to it and get the handrails on these suckers and get'em finished. Happy Rails! Jay.

Jeff, I was just wondering because the local Fire Departments and Police Departments had to get certified in ICS to tap into the Government grant money. Courses are free if you're interested I can send you the course information. What make/model fire helmets are you guys wearing these days? I have a red Metro 550 that I haven't worn since I left the fire department in 1987.
Paul, Dale is the guy that gave me the boats. As soon as I get the storage room remodeled and the dock area of the layout started I'll refinish those 2 ships.
I found new glue! Wal-mart's paint department has "Duro All-Purpose spray adhesive" in a blue can, made by Loctite. It's less than $3 for an 11oz spray can. It's safe for plastic, wood, foam, etc... It worked very well on our tree project yesterday.
Garry, thanks. Yesterday was rather rewarding for me, Alex will be 8 in July and he was completely thrilled to spend 6 hours in the yard switching cars around I can only imagine what his reaction will be when there is power to those tracks.
Well I have a bunch of work to do down in the train room everyone be safe and have fun.

Mornin, an irish coffee please Zoe.
Partly cloudy skies will be around today ahead of approaching rain and thunderstorms. Scattered rain and thunderstorms will be around this afternoon and evening as well as through most of the day on Saturday. Temperatures will still warm up into the 70's today with gusty south winds but will cool off a bit for the weekend. Overnight lows will drop into the lower 50's tonight and only warm up into the upper 50's for Saturday. Sunday will see clouds and rain exiting with temperatures rebounding into the mid 60's.
I was in the train room this morning when the house started shaking and stuff start falling out of the trees hanging over the roof, then the news confirmed my thoughts that we'd had an 5.4 EARTH QUAKE on the Wabash valley fault centered in West Salem IL. I think it's about 70 mile south of me n Jerry. Some damage to foundations, walls n such, but no injures reported yet

PC, and Garry probably felt it too.
DICK, the tractors and equipment are ready to hit the fields and stir up some dirt. Now if we can just get Mother Nature to cooperate with enough dry weather to do some.
Joke for the day
A hack golfer spends a day at a plush country club, playing golf and enjoying the luxury of a complimentary caddy. Being a hack golfer, he plays poorly all day. Round about the 18th hole, he spots a lake off to the left of the fairway. He looks at the caddy and says, "I've played so poorly all day, I think I'm going to go drown myself in that lake."The caddy looks back at him and says, "I don't think you could keep your head down that long."
Sounds like most every one on sick call is healing up fine. We'll keep you in our thoughts that it continues. Hope ya'll has a gooden n stat safe.

Mornin' all!
Yeah Mike, I felt it! The house was rocking and rolling! I got woke up the morning just after 5:30 by that 5.4 earthquake. We have 3 birds in our bedroom, and they felt it before we could. They started freaking out, which woke me up, and then the house started moving. Freaked my daughter out! She'd not felt one like that, and she came running into our room all wigged out. My son? He slept right through it! It's been a while since I felt one that strong. I used to live in California, so I felt them there, but it's not all that common to have them here in Indiana, and certainly not that strong.
The wife and son are both healing well. Both send their thanks for all the prayers and well wishes.
Off to work! Later!
Good Morning from Tipton IN !

I'm 20 miles east of St. Louis so about 100 miles from the epicenter. We felt it good. My wife, a former EEG technologist, thought I was having a seizure in the bed! Aside from some figures falling over on the layout no damage here.
What would the earthquake measure in HO scale?

Good morning everyone.....did you guys get the wake up call this morning at 5:30??? Yes, I see you did. What makes me nervous about this is that the earth is like a big egg shell, one crack leads to another somewhere else within days. And the New Madrid fault is a Big and extremely dangerous faultline. It also is overdue for a release of pressure, so be alert guys.
Glad to hear that nothing too serious happened, better take out some home owners insurance on your layouts and equipment however.
MIKE: I think a nice warmup is headed your way this coming week, so get ready my friend.
66F already here this morning, each morning the temp has increased by about 5F, so today we should hit about 75F maybe even 80F. The grass as really sprung to life and the trees are all red budded heavily....Spring is here !! Great Maple syrup season this year too.
LEE: Thanks for the info on the Loctite Spray-On adhesive, I'll have to check that out HD or WM the next time I stop there.
JEFF: We had two permit fires that had been extinguished fan to life again and do some serious damage a few towns west of yesterday. It never ceases to amase me how people will spray some water on the ashes and walk away thinking the fire is out. They don't take the time to rake the ashes out and water the pile down properly. Over $10,000 damage to one guys garage and all his antiques...what a numb$$$#
Time to get going, see you guys at lunch, I wonder if Fergie and John felt the quake? Naaaah, Fergie probably thought he was still at sea, and John probably thought it was waves hitting the wharf. lol

No damage here, but it did shake the entire house. Woke us up. So, I went to the train room to work on my depot for "Valley Heights".
We're roughly 100 miles south of this quake. Also, we're roughly 100 miles east of New Madrid, MO, the center of the 1812 quate that set some records for North America. It was said that the Mississipp River flowed backwards as a result. I didn't see it, however.

You mean you weren't an eye witness?
Good morning All...Its partly cloudy and warm here this morning after the earthquake...I'll have coffee and a dougnut please...Thank You....Been watching TV all morning..looks like some folks had some broken dishes and picture knocked off the wall...But most of the folks here in our building including Sallie slept thrur it...Phone woke her when our Son called to see if we were OK Saw on TV a Church in Mt. carmel Illinois lost some bricks....
I been scatching some street lites used scrap spruce and topped with a small craft bead..
Here's what they look like next to building...
Well we just had another trimmer not as bad as one at 4:30 but it shook my chair and rattled things in the kitchen.....You all have a good one ....Jerry

Jerry ........... I like the street lights.
Ryan was in Fraser/Winter Park, Colorado recently. Below is my last time there (about 2 years ago) :
I scanned all three pictures in one scan. In the first two pictures, we were stopped for an hour on the eastbound trip in Fraser waiting for crews to complete work in Moffat Tunnel. The last picture was from the rear window of an westbound train while an eastbound train passed by.
Another irish coffee Zoe please,
As Jerry said had an after shock here bout 10:15. Not bad, but it rattled some things on the selves here too. Heard on the radio earlier that a couple train crews felt the main one also while they were moving. No derailments or damage reported on that either.
This was the 3'rd one I've felt in this area. First one was back in 68, that one was a 5.4, I think it was, on the New Mandarin fault in S ILL. Knock stuff off the selves in the lumberyard.
Next one was in 87 I believe, I was cultivating end rows in a bean field n listening to Jerry on the radio. When the tractor started wobbling and the cultivator was taking out beans. By the time I got the tractor stopped, Jerry said, " I think when just had a earth quake". That one was centered in Birds. Deb's got a lot of family down in there and they had some damage. All we had here was a cracked cellar wall.
Gas hit $3.50 here and their still saying $4 by Memorial Day.
Our little CD player was rattling last night...oh wait, that was from the washers spin cycle. Seriously, glad to hear everyone is OK. No model train damage? Bet the wee little folk thought it was the end of the world.
***Philip, last earthquake we had, just like you son...I slept through it, too. The wife woke me up and I heard a "WOP WOP WOP" sound and said, "Oh, that's just a big military helicopter". She said the bed had lifted up as if on an ocean wave. That same morning one of our mares delivered her foal several weeks early. Called that filly, "Seismicity".
***Jerry, what a neat idea for those lamp posts.
***Garry, nice pics there. Those locos look "futuristic" to me.
Well, while here, I'll have the usual in a AT&SF mug, please & thanks.
Rob
Quick question: Have any of you used "Model Train Place" (Jon's discount trains) or Lees Trains? Are they legit? Thanks for any info.
