Did you know that most fruitcake is the same molecular density as mohagony wood? Tough stuff.

Hello everyone.....

OK...........  Time for fruit  cake!  Egg Nog, too.  It's December. Chiristmas is on its way. I love fruit cake!

Ryan ...... I like the roundhouse. I found out a cheap source of LED's. Wait until after Christmas and then go to craft stores. I bought some strings of Christmas lights that required two AA batteries combining for 3 volts.  You can cut off the LED's as you need them. 75% Off retail in post Christmas clearance sales. I love deals. Big Smile [:D]

Jerry ...... Good to hear about the fixer-uppers from ebay. Many of my cars and locomotives are junkers that I rebuilt. Again I love deals. Big Smile [:D]

ED.  I'm gald your back because the diner's OJ inventory was getting low.

Happy Model Railroading.

philnrunt; did you see my pevious post about UPC?  I think it would help you out with your power outages.

Friend of mine I use to work with picked up a cold last month, doctors said it was some kind of  pnemonia and he had 30 days to live.  I thought he was kidding me.  Well he made it 32 days and passed away saturday.  Just a few days short of his 35th B-Day.

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,

Got back home from the trip last night.  Almost three weeks, so it was time to come home.  We enjoyed seeing friends, doing some shopping, and playing with the grandson.  Also made a short side trip by flying out to Phoenix for a couple of days to see an old friend who was in the states for a while.

No real railfanning, but I did get to snap off a few shots of trains that we passed driving north and south.  In fact, I finally got to see one of the KCS locomotives in their new paint scheme.  And while in Houston we took advantage of the fact that the San Jacinto Model Railroad Club sponsors their Fall Model Railroad Open House Tour during model railroad month.  I think we got to see about 10 different layouts.  Really some beautiful work out there.  I've already reported back that I did get over to Beaumont to see Steve (BaylorMax) and his layout and have dinner with Teffy and his wife.

Still haven't downloaded the photos to the computer and edited them.  But in a couple of days I hope to be able to post some.

Our schedule for tomorrow has us heading out to the orange grove.  So I'll be able to give you a first hand report of how the crop is doing.  And, of course, restock the Coffee Shop (and my fridge) with fresh squeezed orange juice.

In our small house?  None.  But that's what they make hotels for.  Even when our daughter and son-in-law came down to visit last year we had to put them up in a hotel in the town.

Of course it's possible that no Coffee Clubbers really want to come down here anyway.  The temperature only got up to 30º today.  That's ºC, by the way, so the palm trees didn't get any frostbite.  I'm trying to decide if I need to turn on the a/c tonight or whether I can struggle by with open windows and the fans........ Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Hasta mañana,

Ed

His comment: "First off, I'm the one who shot this video, second, I'm the NS railyard Supervisor. Thirs, the engineer was acting under my orders, and fourth, he wasn't excceeding portspeed of 10 mph. Now seeing as how my guys built the snowman, you tell me on what planet that 100 lbs of snow can derail a 78 ton GP38 road switcher. This comment of course goes out to the person with noo sense of humor. SlugsTasteLikePaint. Besides, with a name like that, you donn't barr out a lot of credibility. "

If you go back through the comments, the guy who shot the video gave an explanation.  He is the yard supervisor.  He ordered the engineer of the GP38 to run over the snowman!  The yard crew built it. I think his comment was like the first or second page.

I like your idea of lighting the inspection pits too, going to have to think that one through as to how to get that one done.

Did they use those grain of wheat or grain or rice bulbs back then?

With todays technology I would imagine that some small LED's might look nice in the inspection pits.

Thanks,

They were grain of wheats w/ resistors to dim them. Today you could use leds and possibly drill them in from the outside. Minitronics does have some real small incandecents.

in a SANTA FE mug, please & thank you!

***Kevin, one of the IGs we lost was Joey, a whopping 28lbs (fawn colored). Yes, he came from registered parents.Confused [%-)] Must have been a latent gene that showed up when he was born. We adopted three of ours from a Vet who worked with a rescue group. Our first "Izzy" (long gone now) we rescued from a tiny cage that a wicked cat woman (you know the type) had hidden under her deck. Oh, their home is a tall dog house I built for them and it is heated by two red heat lamps in the ceiling. Gave them some fresh new carpet a few weeks ago, which I do at least a couple times each year.

***Jim, our IGs have an all-they-can-eat, 24/7 dog feeder. Unlike their giant cousins the 50-80lbs Greyhounds, Italian Greyhounds are generally in the 7-15lbs range. They can flat out fly, but 95% of the time they like to lay around and do nothing. They excell at sleeping!

***Philip & Colby, Nice snow shots!

***Mitch, "basement"...You got the better end of that deal (I think).

Spent the day fixing fences. Our pygmy goats have been wondering out to the road, so are about to get locked in for the winter. All for now. Cowboy [C):-)] Rob

Ryan,

That roundhouse is looking great in all your pics. Do you have any lighting in those inspection pits? Years ago at our old club a member had scratchbuilt the stalls and pits. There were small bulbs strung along the pit walls- some unbelieveable work from those oldtimers.

Well the snow's not the problem here south of Boston. Living on the ocean that wind chill in the single digits are pretty bad. Didn't get much snow Sun night, only a couple of inches of slop that froze.

Ya, the engine install, or should I say "stall" is a better term didn't go as planned. Got that new motor in place and only bolted up as the snow started. All the parts and pieces of the truck(core support, radiator, bumper and such) Vans engines come out the front and everything must go right to the frame were set out on the driveway and sawhorses had to be placed in storage or they'd be covered and buried under the ice. The cold and wind chill have been so bad I can only last 10-15 minutes working in it. Freezing rain all day Mon and back to the freezing temps today. Spent the day chasing parts and cleaning and assembling manifold/ throttle body indoors. Don't know when I'll be able to brave those temps and get it back together. And all along, I just think of all those great summer days. Maybe we'll get a heat wave and the temps can reach 30+ degrees, something I can deal with.

Good thing I can juggle my time and am between kitchen jobs right now. The next one can start whenever I'm ready and can work through the holidays (house is vacant).

Some of that club scenery is starting to look real good right about now.

I think the steam engine might have to be brought out of retirement to be use were the flood waters have put the diesel out of commission.

The best investment for your computer or other sensitive equipment is a battery backup.  Mine cost $60.  It's on the order of a surge protector, but it protects from brown outs and loss of power.  If the power goes out there is a USB cable from the battery backup to the computer to tell the computer it needs to shut down. If you are running WIN-XP the software is already installed in the operating system. Also most manufactures of battery backup will insure any equipment connected to the battery backup (UPS or uninterruptable power supply) in the event of a lightning strike. I highly recommend having one!

Snowing here, but the winds are back to a reasonable speed.   Lovely 28F outside right now.

Mornin' all!

Looks like we're going to get some snow 'round here!  Should have an inch or two by tomorrow morning.

It's so funny to watch everyone around here every year when we get snow.  Everyone freaks out and loses it.  Maybe it's from living in New England, Wyoming, and the snow belt in Ohio all those years, but c'mon people.  It's only an inch or two!  I don't even take note until you start approaching a foot or so, and then it's only mildly interesting.  It doesn't become fun until you hit the 18" mark.  Oh well!  It's entertaining to watch everyone wig out, I will say that!

So thats the big news 'round here!

Good Morning, Diners! Zoe, I'll have the scrambled eggs, bacon and toast special, please, with a cup of the TH. Thank you, ma'am.

So with the weather some of you are having, you might be thinking/wishing of this?

Ed, how much spare guest room space do you have? Once our Northeastern Diners dig out from under their white blankets, they may be on the way to you... Evil [}:)]Wink [;)]

Guess we could remind ourselves of this:

Crisp upper 20's F here in Cape Girardeau at the moment (but none of that white flaky stuff yet). Sunny, at least! Smile [:)]

Got the Grandt Line windows and doors ordered for the church. Some of the ones I'd at first emailed to our LHS owner/MRR club member were out of stock, so I tried changing the style of windows in hopes that the other style might be in stock. We'll see, huh?

Italian greyhounds, huh? Is that a lot different from regular greyhounds (if there is a 'regular' breed of the hounds)? And fellas, I'd be careful about calling them wusses - Vinnie might walk in and misunderstand your remarks to mean him. Shock [:O]Black Eye [B)] I'll bet Kevin's (or Rob's) greyhounds make it to their food dishes pretty quickly, though...Smile [:)]

Pirate [oX)] Fergie, how long is the Hudson? Must be fairly big, if 295' aft is still onboard the ship. I see the Terry Fox appears to be still in port, according to the dot on your linked site pages. Looks like the storm messed up with your nice path around the Atlantic prior to that - it'd been a fairly regular path, and then there're all these scattered dots in the past day or two (which I guess is when the storm came along). Keep her up and running and back to port so you can go skiing on terra firma...

Need to get my breakfast done and back to the stacks...

Blessings and prayers for a warm dry place out of the storms,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Hoople, I just noticed what you said and sent a PM to you. Sorry to hear what you said was going on.

Well, I'm headed to the layout room.
