der, labs are such a joy to have. Nothing more fun that heading to the nearest creek to play fetch the stick with them until your own arm gets tired. Then that fragrant sent of dead fish they inevitably find to roll in. Ahhh, the joyful life of a happy lab. Sounds like your Rosie is the kind that would rather lay out in the cold than use a heat lamp. If the hay is plenty and dry, she may not need the lamp!?! At her age though, it would be nice if she would accept it during the coldest spells. Have no answer for you. BTW, cool access hatch you made there.Smile [:)]Thumbs Up [tup]

Banged Head [banghead] I'm not happy with wife's sister. What kind of sibling would make you drive home (because company was coming the next evening) when you need help even getting out to your car because you can barely see strait? She could have easily died in a car wreck on the way home in that condition. Turns out the cops had all sorts of calls about a "drunk driver" on the highway. Well, going to go lay beside the sicky incase she needs anything.

Good night all. Cowboy [C):-)] Rob

Thanks RT! Took her temp and it is 102.5. She said it was 104 a few hours ago. Looks like a visit to the Doc in the AM is a likelihood. The cop first told her she needed to find someone to come get her. She couldn't reach anyone on her cell phone, so then the cop told her to stop at McDonalds, take a 30 minute nap & have a cup of coffee. Glad she came stait home instead of taking that advice.

Quick story: Last time she was stopped by a cop (for no seatbelt...even though I lecture her all the time about it), the cop saw she was a nurse and after a short chat let her go. Then two weeks later guess who her patient was at the hospital? Wink [;)] Wife told this same cop, "I'm sorry I can't let you go like you did me, but I have two shots I need to give you and I'm affraid one of them is really going to hurt". Laugh [(-D]

I started taking echinacea tonight prophylactically. Worked twice before, so sure can't hurt. Cowboy [C):-)] Rob

Fergie:

Der John: I concur with 3 though I think a tad more lime shad maybe in order, especially at the high water mark then go darker as you go down to the low water mark.
...Thanks Fergie.  I was wondering about that sort of effect, and my very first trial (not shown in the Diner) included an attempt to get that, but I didn't know what I was doing really.  Anyhow, I think that going lighter will not give enough contrast with the above waterline dock.  I shall have a go at doing a darker band some feet down from the high water mark for the majority of the dock depth.  I'm not too hopeful of getting a shading to darker at the dilution I'm using, it's a bit weak.  I'm sort of stuck with the paint mix I've got as I'm out of a major component, and the local store is all out of it (and most else in hobby paints - must be Christmas!) too.

Johnboy: The tunnel I have that could be seen down easily has the track curve to the left just after the entrance, and I wanted to give the impression that it goes straight on.  That's about the opposite of your situation! Here's what I came up with, a scene based on this prototype.

My version ...it's done with a light box with a painted landscape in back.

it would cause a disaster and I will not be able to repair it without tearing out a section.
...Fergie asked me way back how I would get at anything stuck in the tunnel behind my main rock wall (it's where the tracks go once they've turned left (see above).   My solution is a long access hatch.  The joint lines will mostly be hidden by trees and such.

Here's the long hatch

And here it isn't.

Mark: Thinking about the situation at home you wrote about the other day. You y'all are in our prayers.Angel [angel]

CapeJim: Loved the cartoon, thanks! Congratulations on the GP-to-be thing!

BobK:  Your truck woes are sounding like the big brother of the trouble I'm having with our snow blower.  Done everything I can think of to get it to go, but it's a small engine, and instinctively senses my mother's genes.  She was, how can we say, not a mechanic.

Ryan:  That RH is awesome.  The pit lights could be done with those surface mount mini LEDs.  I've lost the URL to the manufacturer, but a Google of  LED surface mount miniature, will likely turn it up.

Rob:

Oh, their home is a tall dog house I built for them and it is heated by two red heat lamps in the ceiling.
...Could you tell me how you got your dogs to go in / stay in the house with the lamps on?  I've rigged just such a lamp for Rosie-the-dog, but as soon as I switch it on, she goes to the other end of her run and stays there.  Now granted, we are not talking "brightest bulb in the string" here. This 11+ lab cross has yet to learn that bighting porcupines is painful! (three goes so far).  But if you have any tips on getting her to like the lamp, I'd be grateful. It's going to be a cold winter by the sound of it, and she isn't young anymore.

She has fresh hay, which enhances how she smells!

Hope your wife recovers quickly. As RT says, it may be an ear thing, with the loss of equilibrium and all.Angel [angel]

Ed: Welcome home.

But that's what they make hotels for.  Even when our daughter and son-in-law came down to visit last year we had to put them up in a hotel in the town.
...much our situation too.  We put the grandkids and our daughter on air mattresses and so on, but anyone else would have to be boarded out.

Sue:

Can we sing Christmas carols with the egg nog?
...absolutely.  Check out this clip sent me from Dick today. http://www.citizenlink.org/Stoplight/A000005834.cfm   click the red stoplight to activate.  Hope your MIL gets a good settlement from the insurance, and that nothing irreplaceable was lost. Have a great trip.

Paul: glad the cold is yielding a bit.  Great thing about retirement is you don't have to go anywhere!

JP:  Welcome back!  Glad you found your way here.  Sorry, but our budget was all spent on mrr supplies, and we couldn't afford to send out ground search and rescue! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]  Disappearing sales catalogues sounds like a good sign.  Hope you are right!

That's about it for tonight.  all, and God Bless. Prayers for all in need of healing, comfort and peace.Angel [angel]

YIKES, wife is home now, but was pulled over by the cops for weaving. Obviously she wasn't drunk (she never drinks period) and was quite sick, so they let her continue home. Then she falls in the ditch by our farm gate when she lost her equilibrium. If I had known she was in such bad shape I would have met her out there in the first place. Poor thing barely made it in the house with my help and is now in bed. Might have to run her to Doc In The Box tomorrow morning. Making her chicken soup right now. Sigh [sigh]

Evening, Diners - Chloe, how about a cup of hot cocoa, please? Thank you.

JP, you didn't find the trail of breadcrumbs that we left you? Wink [;)] Yep, if the sale catalogs are missing that's a good sign - you had circled or marked all your favorite stuff before they went missing, I hope. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] Otherwise, who knows? - You might end up getting one of those Thomas the Tank train sets... Shock [:O]Laugh [(-D]

Paul, take care of yourself with the creepin' crud or whatever you have. And Rob, better get your wife to consider tending to her own healthcare needs, too. Yeah!! [yeah] Now that my ear is finally clearing up where I can hear, we don't want the rest of the troops coming down with stuff.

Found out tonight that my daughter and son-in-law are expecting a baby... (drum roll now.....) BOY! Which should give me an even better shot at getting him hooked on trains early on. Anyone know where I can get an mp3 of train sounds? Maybe I can slip that onto my daughter's iPod and get her to put the earphones on her tummy. Let's see, Thomas is blue, so that's the right color for a boy.... Wink [;)]

Had a nice steak dinner out tonight, courtesy of a former classmate when I was going through my M.A. program (I think I mentioned she's the local contact person for one of the hospitals we refer teens to for treatment). Good to catch up on what each other is up to - her husky dog just had a litter of pups (6), and she's located homes for all but one of them already. Cute fuzzy little things (she had cell phone pics of them).

Well, I have to finish going through my latest Walthers sale catalog that I got this week, so I'll be checking it out while I finish my hot cocoa at the corner booth.  Prayers for healing and a quick recovery for those of us ailing currently.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Evening Gang: After taking Mary Ann to her doctors appointment we stopped at Borders Book Store to pick up a Christmas present for one of the grand daughters. I of course sensening an opertunaty grabed Black Adder #4. I've got #1 so only 2, 3, and 5 to go. I'm feeling a bit better, now.

JP: That does sound interesting. My guess is she may be doing just that.

Greetings all -

What to my surprise when I came across this on page 1. I knew we were not as close as we were w/ the page count as compared to the CS, but hey... all good things must move on. And so here we are and I have just 1 question... Was anyone every going to email me and tell me there was a new place to go to? Or were you all just going to leave me hanging?

Anyway, I got a few new books the day after Thanksgiving - North American Railyards and one on Early Geeps.

Speaking of MRR / Train stuff.... I think the g/f (Bretagne (Brittany)) is getting me some train stuff for Christmas. Only way I can figure that out, is I am missing a few of the most recent sale catalogs that I have gotten since the week before Thanksgiving.

Well, time for some dinner.

Take care!

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010

I love you and miss you Mom. Say hi to everyone up there for me. Rest in peace and comfort. Love, John. 29 March 2017

***Paul, sure hope you are past the worst of that bug. Wife went to work in Atlanta only to end up sick. Sounds like what you have. She is going to try driving home late tonight when there is little traffic, as her sister will need the guest room tomorrow for company. She sure has had a rough time lately with all the illness.

Afternoon all,

4" of snow on the ground so far.

Anybody interested in re-motoring a locomotive?

I bought 12 can motors (replacement motors for HO scale locomotives) I only needed 2 so I have 10 brand new motors.

Morning Gang: I'm a littel bit better but now it's gone down to my chest. Last night I did sleep better. I ordered a CN&W Erie built from Walthers. They were on sale. I wanted an AB set of them in Milw Rd but they were discontinued. I should have gotten 2 of the CN&W units. Goofed again. I just ran out of steam so I'll say so long for now. My bed looks very good. Walked down to the big creek yesterday (Salacoa) and it is flowing now. Our own little creek continues to deliver a small steady flow as well. Guess all we needed to do is buy those huge watertanks to get make this happen.Big Smile [:D] Like our tornado shelter, now that we have one, we will never have any more close calls as long as we live here. Whistling [:-^]

Good Morning guys and gals,   Chloe, when you get a minute you can rustle me up a western omelette and cranberry juice.have to protect that OJ until the truck arrives.

Well here is an abreviated forecast for the next week for the center of the "GAP"   The truckers call Saskatchewan the "GAP' as we don't have any cities the size of Winnipeg or Calgary or Edmonton in the Province, so when they are passing through from Manitoba to Alberta or Vise versa they say they are crossing the Gap.

I don't know why it widened out. You will have to scroll sideways to see it all.  Tried to fix, but no cooperation.

Glad to see Fergie is back close to land and will be able to dry off a little.

Really love that Roundhouse, great work, Ryan.

Sue, hope all is well with the in-laws. Great idea to live on higher ground in areas like that.

CnCharlie, looks like I'll be easier on you the next while. Not a great amount of snow forecast.

I liked the info on the Italian Greyhounds, I am a dog nut but wasn't very familiar with that breed.

The tunnel liner looks like they will work, I have the cardstock glued in place, however I think I will design some sort of support for it just in case the cardboard decides to fatigue and lean over a little, it would cause a disaster and I will not be able to repair it without tearing out a section. So will secure that so it can be forgotten.

Well I'm at work so I had better get back to it.

You all have a great week, Blessing & prayers to all in need .

Morning all.

Chloe, just a milk before school.

Not much goin' on here lately thats MR related. I still haven't started on my backdrop.

Jim: I live up on a hill, so I was okay. The major road below us was closed up further north due to Bothell being in a state of ermegency, it was under about 5' of water on monday morning. I heard Soundtransit should be running trains again today.

Sue: So it seems you were on the lower end of the floods. Keep some and send it to Jeff, Rob, or whoever needs it.

Later All.

Morning folks-just a quick coffee before I hit the train workbench a bit before w**k.

We woke up to about the same amount of the white stuff as Phillip-& I noticed our birds we're making the best of it at the feeder-I caught a few quick & crappy shots through the window.

Wish my vacation started today instead of Friday-I have to deliver large print books today to a few sites. Just hope the roads are cleared a little more by the time I hit it.

*finishes coffee* gotta run folks-have a great day all!

Ryan,  You can have all the water that you want.  Just send me the containers.Laugh [(-D]  It looks like the water went down about 4 feet over night.  As for the wreath parties, they were a hit.  It is alot easier on me when they make their own wreaths.  It is fun  to gift something to others  during the holidays.

Jim,  We are high and dry, well, not wet from flood waters because we live on the top of a hill.  I learned that lesson growing up on a flood plain.  MIL said that they were able to assess the damage, but have to wait for the water to be turned back on to do much.  Mud and silt are everywhere.

Thanks for the concern,  Sue

We've 4 fresh inches of snow on the ground!  And just as predicted, everyone forgot how to drive in the stuff.  My 1/2 hour commute took about an hour.  CSX wisely decided not to run trains in this mess as the traffic would probably have prevented them from getting through crossings anyways.  This should be about it for the snow accumulation though.  They're calling for flurries till afternoon and then dropping temps.  The weather guesser says a balmy 12 degrees is good for tonight.  Yeah buddy, it's getting nippy out there!

Weather doesn't stop the phone company though.  I'm right here in my office, same as always.

Did you guys hear about the "Bonnie & Clyde" bank robbers?  A couple robbed banks in 4 states that they know of so far.  They caught up with them last night just a few miles from here.  Pretty wild!

Oh, and Chloe.......pie and coffee please!  Thats right, RT's got the tab.  No, no, just one piece of pie.  Don't wanna rake him over the coals too badly!

So whats going on in your neck of the woods?

Good Morning, Zoe - I'll have some scrambled eggs, couple of strips of bacon, some of Ed's OJ (now that we know the Valencia tankers are on their way to the Diner)Wink [;)], and a cup of coffee, please. Thanks, RT!

Somewhat cold yesterday, but not as cold last night (upper 30's F), and weather's sounding more steady the next couple of days. S'pposed to be mid 40's during the days and just above freezing at night. Currently 38 F with a windchill of 33, so could be much worse than that.

Ed, I'm sure you're glad to get back home. Sounds like a nice trip - even just in terms of friends and layouts visited. We'll look forward to those railfanning pics once you get them uploaded.

Paul, hope you're taking whatever the doctor prescribed for you. You have had the doctor check it out, yes? If not, get your b**t to the doctor's, please.Evil [}:)]  No sense just suffering with whatever it is that you have.

Sue and Mark, the pictures on the news from up your way don't look good at all. Hope your houses are above the water line (and Sue, that your M-I-L's home drains pretty soon). Where are you and Larry heading on your trip?

RT, hope your eBay sales go well. Any more word on that prospective plumbing job you mentioned a bit ago? Angel [angel] Angel [angel] Angel [angel]

Ryan, is that roundhouse made of metal? I am even more impressed if that's true. I never have tried doing one of the metal kits (like the older Suydam ones). Bow [bow]

Oh, at w**k, my supervisor said in January I can start seeing outpatient clients four days a week(!). That means only covering crisis and walk-ins one day a week (and therefore, a more predictable schedule and lunch hour)! Big Smile [:D]

Got to get things moved around in the living room and get my tree and decorations up tonight. I'm supposed to meet with a former classmate that I went through the couns. program with a few years back. She went ahead and got her Ph.D. and now w**ks as liason for one of the hospitals we refer to, so she gets to treat for dinner every few months and write it off as a 'business expense'. She also has her own counseling practice connected with her church in Illinois. It's always fun to catch up on what each of us has been up to since last time.

Better get busy on my breakfast before it cools down, and then off to w**k. Prayers for dry land, and for healing and comfort for those in need of that as well.

Blessings,

Morning folks!

How about some hot coffee Chloe! Thanks!

Bob K. - Grain of wheat's with resistors to dim, ah ha! I knew I was on the right track. Yes, I agree LED's would be a fine choice for today's implementation of the same.

Rob - Funny video of the snow man getting hit by that NS train! Big Smile [:D]

Sign - Welcome [#welcome]  back Ed! Three weeks on the trip, and it must be nice to be back home again too! We need an OJ report and update soon, the stock in the back is getting low...... [whispering]....pssst....Chloe said not to tell anyone but they been serving frozen OJ for over a week now!

Paul - hope you get to feeling better soon! Dinner [dinner] Chicken soup might help!

Garry - Yea Christmas is on its way alright, only 21 more days...... And thanks for the info on the LED's source, might have to make a trip to Michael's for their after season sales. Glad you like the roundhouse progress! Speaking of the RH here is another image of the work in progress on the tar shingle roof for the office:

Sue - Can you ship some of that water over here? We are still under a severe drought conditions and water use restrictions. Hey, how did the wreath making parties go last weekend?

See you all later,

Evening all- Well, the first snow of the year is here, as I pulled up to work the Crown Vic was headed south with lights and siren a wailin'. Just what you want to see. Turned out to be a domestic in another town, we were just providing back-up.

Still, the first snow is usually a nightmare, like pcarrell (IIRC) said, the idiots out there forget how to drive. And even if you are being careful, some clown in a bigger vehicle will slam into you just for the fun of standing out in the snow and doing an accident report.

LSW- I read your post on the UPC's, but this PD is cheap, if nothing else! They rely on the shift on duty to unplug stuff before the lightning strikes, and sometimes it can be close. This summer I was trying to gather info from the Weather Channel, the NOAA website, and our radio during a Tornado Warning, and all 3 got fried by a near strike. Ahhhh, good times.  As soon as you set off the warning siren, you spend the next 30 minutes explaining to people why the siren is going off at 0330. " No sir, we don't test the siren at 3 in the morning, it's a TORNADO WARNING!!!!!"  In the future, when they ask what they should do- I always lived under the misconception that if you live in the midwest, you should have a clue as to what to do under these circumstances- I plan on telling them to go outside, climb on their roof's and point their antenna's towards the next lightning strike, I figure it will be my contribution to thinning out the herd. Jeez, hope they still HAVE antennas! But I'm not bitter, that's the important thing!

Ahh, the tx is rringing- later!

Can we sing Christmas carols with the egg nog?

Seriously, I am sick of the flooding out here.  There is a 20 mile stretch of   I-5 that is closed with 10 feet of water over the roadway.  Larry's mom and her husband had 18 inches of water in their home.  They are hoping that the flood waters will recede enough that they can start the cleanup.

I did some ground goop this weekend.  Maybe I will get some photos next week.

Our Christmas trip is this weekend.  We are hoping that AmTrack will be running.  After the water recedes, they will have to check that track before it runs again.  What a winter.
