Can one of you please start a new version... Elliotts Trackside Diner III

Over 150 pages... time for the forum to stop dragging this thing around. Way too big. This one is officially locked. (Don't panic... it's only because it's too big.)

Thanks,
Bergie

Hello all,

8F here tonight, today we had beautiful sunny skies interrupted by total snow white outs.

GMT did your signs arrive yet?

Cox, you let all those MOW and B&B workers leave after the photo?  (Just kidding) looks like a happy group there!

Jeff, looks like that building took a little wind damage to the roof.

Ok, back to work on the layout, catch you all later.....

Good Morning Mid-day, Zoe! I'll have the Beef n Barley soup, please, and a grilled cheese sandwich and a glass of milk, too. Thanks!

Jerry, PawPaw has some really cute granddaughters - Did they get their looks from you, or Sallie? Wink [;)] You sure look happy there.

Ed and DerJohn, for me to work in iNvisible scale, I'd need a new set of eyeballs! Some days it's hard enough telling details in HO...Sigh [sigh] Of course, if I got a bigger space, I would have longer possible runs between towns/cities, too, so that would take care of it. (Memo to self - find good woman with large unused basement space...)Whistling [:-^]

JP, if your girlfriend likes trains already, all you have to do is take her to a few Red Sox games and you'll probably win her over on that. Just her suggesting going to a game is a good start! Thumbs Up [tup]

Ryan, nice menu today (heck, they all are good - I just like today's even better). Your turtle soup the other day reminded me of a restaurant in St. Louis that my grandparents would take us to, where they had turtle soup regularly. The place was called Pelican's (wonder if they came from Louisiana, with a name like that for the place? There sure weren't any around St. Louis that I saw!). Oh, and I'll be back for one of those steaks tonight!

Best be getting to my soup and sandwich for now, though.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

***Paul, Sue: Agreed about good horses. All our horses have their own strengths and unique personality, but some are born with a special something. Our Twister is one of those horses that could learn to do anything well. She will probably be one of the 2 or 3 we keep. Her mom is Sandy, the old mare who will be leaving us sometime soon. Tough keeping weight on the old girl and she is almost entirely blind and I think has a touch of dementia. Gotta be real careful around her (let her know you are there constantly and be prepared to move).

Found some hay so need to make a hay run before the rain returns tomorrow. Have a great day all. Cowboy [C):-)] Rob

Morning folks!

Another below freezing temps last night, but sunny skies today.

Anyone going to watch the lunar eclipse tonight, the full eclipse occurs around 10:26 PM EST and is supposed to be spectacular. We are going to set up the telescope and line up the moon around 9:30 PM EST or so, just wish I had the camera lens hookup thingy to take some photos.

Watched American Idol last night, looks like the guys are going to give the girls a run this year.

PC good luck with the Pinewood derby, it is always a fun event and a great opportunity to bond with your son. Win or lose it is a good thing! PC said "Can I still get a good ole burger and fries"? And yes, burgers are on the regular virtual menu each day, so help yourself to one of those too.

Jeff I know what you mean about "to all things there must be an ending", trying to make this getting old as graceful as possible and the challenges get stronger each year.

Garry said "Where's the beef?" I remember that old Wendy's ad from bygone days. So, it's beef ya wanting eh! Since I am observing Lent for my Catholic heritage I have abstained from the red meat for awhile, but I will gladly add some of the bovine species selections back to the specials menu, at your request we aim to please! Service is our business!

Rob nice to hear that the big creek churning away, and is it possible for you to hook up a mini hydro generator to it and reduce your dependence on the electric grid?  We have a small creek behind our house, but my understanding is that you need a minimum of about a 5-8 foot drop for the water to produce enough force to move a mini turbine to crank a generator. Mother Earth News online has a great PDF download on building such a device.

Lee making progress on the layout is good to hear! Thumbs Up [tup]

NittanyLion (aka Nick) I remember that old FS version too, my dad used to fly and he would play on the PC with that version. He also had a version by Chuck Yeager and when you crashed he would say something like "...looks like you bought the farm." LOL Laugh [(-D]

Jerry that is a great photo of the grandkids with their Grandpa! Big Smile [:D] Looks like you all had a great time visiting too! Glad you liked the Frog Legs...

Well, technically speaking it only needs to work for 24 hours, or as long as it takes to pass the inspection.  Wink [;)]  Is turtle soup still acceptable?  Or do they just use turtle varieties that aren't endangered?

Ed you are right about the rear view mirror working just long enough, that's why I'm going to wait until just before I go back for the inspection to put it on the window. Yes, turtle soup is still available from farm raised and non-endangered species. And thanks for getting the answers to the NS track geometry train testing equip with the pic Phil provided, now that would be fun to model too! BTW, you're up early this morning!! Confused [%-)]

Congratulations JR on making it on the TrainBoard "Modeling Images of the Week" Thumbs Up [tup]

Phinnrunt I have to agree with you 100% on the Diner being a refreshing change from the General Discussion area and the way some folks act and carry on with modeling topics like their life depended on it! This is supposed to be fun right! Some people just get too wrapped up and serious about it and takes the fun out of it sometimes. Oh well, takes all kinds I guess! They BIL clubhouse sounds like a fun project to build! I see photo opps in your future...

Ozark that 1X3 HO layout sounds interesting! Cool [8D]

Good morning,

I'll have the usual.

I've been working on designing yet another layout! it will be 1x3 feet, HO with a added staging yard/transfer table. it will be a industrial park with my well weathered GE-70 tonner taking center stage. Once i get around to getting a photobucket account, I'll post some pics...

Good Morning All,

Chilly this morning but the suns come out and that's never bad in New England. I'll have a regular and a stack of hotcakes from Bills' buffet. Thanks Bill. Got the truck off last night despite a bit of drama over a non working air suspension on the trailer (left over of a mod from our previous truck driver) so tomorrow it's off to Florida.

Ed - thanks for the heads up - I don't think my photo deserved to be there with the other fantastic work, but it's an honor enough to be viewed on Trainboard.

Went to the museum last night and worked on the new O gauge layout using Ross track and turnouts. We kept things simple as the O gets a lot of use from the younger set but went around the perimeter of the U shaped table and added an "oval 8" to the middle of the front area. Didn't bring my camera, but hopefully next week. No other work at home except a bit of plotting for the area to the side of the industrial area. There are two turnouts aimed that way, but no track or buildings down yet. Before I get too far I'd like to get an idea of what to put in the space, then return to detailing on the factories.

Well, even though the truck is gone there's lots to do and I'd better get to it. Catch y'all later, J.R.

   Heydy hi.

We have a brand new puter at work, it's black and fast, the other one brew up last Thur or Tue or some time ago. This one makes reading the last 8 pages a breeze.

Silverspike- Thanks for posting those shots, I wish I knew what the NS thingie was, maybe it will come back someday and I can ask around.

Ed- Thanks for the info, I might try to post some pics here soon, tonight I just wanted to catch up on my e-mail-can't read it at home- and check in here. I have a bunch of pics to post to p-bucket, might do that next.

JimRC- You mentioned something about stirring it up on the other forums, but it was so long between then and now it took me awhile to remember what I said about the IceRail System. I haven't checed back to see what response that might have gotten.

People sure aren't afraid to say things on the net they would never say face to face, and I know, as all of you folks do, that we have a very good group here, and more MRR knowledge than should be legal to gather in one spot. Sure is a shame when someone takes something the wrong way (I think this happens more than not) or when a disagreement gets out of hand. I put up with that in my j*b, only it usually involves booze and fists. Here, it's about playing with trains, and I'd never believe anyone could get so upset over something so benign and happy. Oh well, I know I can always come through the Diner Doors and as they close behind me they close out a whole lot of the world with them. I can mosey over to the Old Hands table and, after the obligatory pestering and bugging and joking, settle down with some good folk and chill.

Ajo and I spent Fri in Portland, picked up pics at W-mart, had dinner at a great little Mexi-raunt, El Camino Real- with friends and then had desert at the Koffee Kup Kafe, then I headed home and Ajo to w**k, after she got off Sat at 0700, we spruced up and headed to Brownsburg for a B-Day party, didn't get home until 2100, Ajo was pretty well wrecked. But we had a good time.

My BIL is building a clubhouse for his girls in the shape of a caboose, I will try to post some pics of it, it's really kinda neat. When he's done- he hopes before the girls graduate college (they are 11 and 8)- it will have heat, air, a breakfast area, and a loft in the cupola. We told him it was going to be nicer than the trailer we have!

Well, gonna try to post some shots on P-bucket, oh yeah, just like everywhere else, the weather just really sucks here. Just wanted to add that.

You all take care, and if this one doesn't break, we'll be back tomorrow night!

JEESH! Here I praised how fast this puter is, and when I tried to post my reply, it took forever, ended up posting it twice, then tried to delete one, we'll see how that goes. If you guys never see this post, let me know!

Evening all.

I enjoyed my weekend. Now it's back to school.

I have recieved word that the big boys are due to be finished in 2-3 weeks, and then 4 weeks it should take to ship from china. 42-49 days and counting!

I saw the thread on the MTH GS4... Since PCM's is going nowhere fast, I think I have another locomotive to save for, along with athearn's new daylight passenger cars. '

Rob: I've been working at the ES44 head on collision, so far I can't get the mean AI train to drive faster than 20 MPH. Maybe the patch will allow me to get both engines up to speed by myself.

I'll be going now.

That may be true, Paul.  Or woman.  I lost my great buckskin gelding about 8 years ago.  I don't think that I could every replace that personality.  I had him from 3 months of age until he died at 21 years. It is sad just thinking about it.

JP - tickets to see the Red Sox in Fenway Aril 24th?!?  I'm extremely jealous.  I've never seen the Red Sox play in Fenway.  I've never even been in Fenway in my entire life.

Just wanted to point out that one of JR's photos made it into the group chosen as "Modeling Images of the Week" over at TrainBoard.  Here's a link to the thread:

Evening Gang: I spent the afternoon hauling dirt again. It looks like I can finish up the hauling and get to the spreading and leveling tomorrow. The battery on the dump trailer held out just about long enough for me to poop out.

ED: The layout raising party hopefully is in the near furture. It depends on how the boys get along with the paying jobs.

Jeff: I'll add my kudos for the track side shack. It looks so very typical of small buildings in rail yards.

The old Texas & Pacific depot in Weatherford is for sale. It's a fairly large deopot made of brick and has a bell tower. I'm not going to buy it but I am going to do a model for the Clark Gardens layout. I'm going to call the realestate broker and get permission to measure and photograph it. I can get the photographs from the street but I need some key measurments that I have to get by actually getting to the building. Of course I'll ask the price. Who knows maybe they'll take couple of pizzas and a six pack of beer. In my dreams. Unfortunately it is in need of major restoration.

Rob I think that having you nearby would be great. I'd like to get a look at your paint horses. My best cow pony was a paint. He's the one that the neighbors dogs ran into a fence and killed. I don't htink that I'll ever get another horse. A man only gets one speicial horse in his life time.

Ryan how about some steaks for us Texas ranchers. Shell fish make me sick.

Dooh: TOP. Well pizza, drinks, and munchies on me.

Well I guess I'll hit the sack.

Not quite 100%, but almost Ed. Actually, it was her idea for us to get tix for the game @ Fenway on April 24th as we have to be in Boston that weekend for a wedding on the 26th. We decided that we'd take her nephew as well for his birthday present, so I got 3 tix in the mail 2 weeks ago for the game.

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010

I love you and miss you Mom. Say hi to everyone up there for me. Rest in peace and comfort. Love, John. 29 March 2017

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,

Another beautiful day down here in Paradise, Cool [8D]  even if the forecast was wrong about it raining.  At least it stayed overcast, so the low 80's temperature wasn't too uncomfortable.  The coffee (from the mountains of Veracruz, of course) is good, and strong, and hot this evening.  Goes well with the orange-honey muffins that Fran made.

I managed to keep a bit of momentum going and continued with the track painting today.  I'm now about finished with the ties, just a small stretch to dry-brush with a light grey.  And I finally started on painting the rails.  I'm happy with my choice of Delta Ceramcoat's "Brown Iron Oxide" as my rust color.  Has just enough red in it to make it look (to my eyes and under my layout's lighting) like rust.

JP:  Girlfriend .... said that this spring, we need to go to Scranton to Steamtown.
Definitely a good sign, JP.  Is she a Red Sox fan too?

Paul - did you get the layout raised up using that "cheap" help?  Or is that sometime in the future?

CG Jim:  What point in the spring do things usually start to thaw out enough for streams and rivers to run again?
Can't speak to the rivers where Charlie is, but up in Ft McMurray, Alberta, the spring breakup of the Athabasca & Clearwater Rivers was usually around April 15th.

I wish there were longer runs between towns, but with that space, that's about all I could do.
Just think what you could do in that space in Normal scale!!  Laugh [(-D]

Ryan:  I need to get that rear-view mirror put back up on the windshield. Just wish it would stop falling off, that adhesive only seems to work for about 4-5 months.
Well, technically speaking it only needs to work for 24 hours, or as long as it takes to pass the inspection.  Wink [;)]  Is turtle soup still acceptable?  Or do they just use turtle varieties that aren't endangered?

Jerry - nice gaggle of grandkids.  Looks like you were enjoying yourself.

That's about from down here.

Hasta mañana

Ed
