Good morning all,

Terry, No problem, but I bet it's the reason I didn't get them.

Not much going on here, I start duty this morning I hope things stay quiet this week.  Picked up 4 milk delivery trucks from LHS only $3.25 this month.  I also bought a new digital camera. Nikon L5 7.2 megapixels, 5x optical zoom, 2gb SD chip, 30 frames/second, and has vibration reduction.  I should be able to sneak up on those locomotives better with this thing.

I got to w**k tonight and the place where the puter used to be is empty, guess we had a massive virus and the only one not infected is this laptop that the officer I work with uses. So if you see words spelled even weirder than normal, it's because I'm not used to this Presario. But I like the keyboard better than Ajo's Dell. HA! Me talking about puter's, thats polliticians talking about honesty!

   To all of you who liked the pictures-THANKS! You don't know how good it makes me feel to know that at last I am contributing a little something.

   Getting busy, lots to say, I'll try to check back in in a bit.

    LSWrr- We will let you know when we have it in written in stone, the trip is still in the planning stages now. Thanks for the info. I'm looking forward to seeing your area again.

      Cederstrand- I read just the other day that UP placed a 1000 unit order with EMD for the SD70ACe, glad to know that was one. You are right, they sure look like an 80 or 90. I have pictures of one of the original demonstraton 90's, took it at the 75th Anniversary of EMD up in La Grange, it sure was a powerful looking monster. In that same article about UP's order, it said the 90 was no longer in the  EMD catalog. Too bad, they are impressive. Thanks for the info.

    Silverspike- Excellent! I'm happy you posted those too! Anytime you or anyone else wants to slap one of those pics up here, feel free. I'm just glad ya liked 'em. And as for Portland, believe it or not, there is one in east central Indiana. The closest body of water is Lake Michigan, or Erie, about 100 miles at best guess. Why it was named that I have no idea, but EVERYONE asks Maine or Oregon when you order something by phone. Also, I have a picture of a NS test unit, looks like nothing I've ever seen before, if we get our puter back anytime soon, I'll forward a copy to you. Don't even want to try it on this one.

   Ozarkbelt and JeffreyW- Glad you enjoyed the pics, I had planned to put more up tonight (mostly of ships, though)until the previously mentioned puter problem reared it's ugly head. I just took 5 rolls in the other day, hopefully they will have some trains I can post, I think some NS and ex-DRG&W units are on these.

  Ed- I will try to read your picture advice as soon as we get the old puter back, I am actually looking forward to working on it for a change. And those KCS de Mexico units should be closer to you than to me, by now. It sure is amazing to compare the engine crews working area now to even a few years ago. Pretty nice place to spend 20 years, huh?

    Sounds like I missed another brouhaha earlier, I never get to see any of these wars of words, they are always over and locked by the time I get around to logging on. Oh well, seems like there are always more folk out there ready to go at it. Thats why I like the Diner, nice and quiet.

   Almost forgot to welcome Little Lara on board, real glad to hear she's out of hospital. Say hello to her for us, eh Paul? And when I get the pics of the USCG units posted, I'll let you know. Ah yes, Trains, Planes and Automobiles- not bad things to enjoy, huh? Oh, and Ships too.

Good evening Diners: Welcome home baby Laura! Also, that's great news about Jerry being mobile again with a fixed axel.  Good anniversary present that, I'd say.

Ran some trains today, but am still being plagued with track glitches, especially at turnouts.  One by one I'll get these sorted out, but it's going to take time.

Ryan: Tim Hortons are doing a Chicken Fajita wrap that is surprisingly good, and doesn't make blood sugar leap skyward., but they haven't discovered your soup yet. I'd post a pic of the wrap, but they don't show it on their web site.  You were wondering why I would spend so much time on cleaning the track by hand, rather than use a track cleaning car.  The answeris in the long term result.  This GLEAM method is said by its proponents (ask Jeff) to cut out the need for cleaning, other than a wipe down with a cloth or paper every so often, for years! What I can say is that locos with clean wheels start right off, on minimum voltage anywhere on the cleaned portion of the layout. They never did that reliably before.  And last night, with a minimal moon shining in the window, the track on the door module, which was parked over by the window, reflected the moonlight in a fantastic way. I noticed it as I walked by the room!

As you know, Flashwave has been helping me with the raiLink decals.  I've been able to do a rough print off of what he sent this morning.  The loco in these shots isn't going to end up with the decals, but is a handy undecorated background.  The "decals" are just plain paper print outs, propped up against the carbody.

JR:  that block of buildings is looking really good.  The roof variety is very convincing.  Convincing too are Jeff's night shots, thanks for those Jeff.

I forget who was asking about preferred methods of ballasting.  When I've time, I'll post some pics of the way I've found works for me.

Jeff, that ark might come in handy - I know that our weatherguessers were saying tonight we might get some more rain/freezing/snow on Friday. Wonder if that's a combination of Johnboy's Alberta Clippers and Jeff's moisture out of the Gulf... But they're not predicting much accumulation. This one is predicted to be coming out of the southwest (Oklahoma/Arkansas area), though.

Rob, I like Ruby Tuesday's also (we have one not far from my place), and I've been there several times. The local one has probably the biggest salad bar in town, so I'd bet your RT chef probably notched it up even better for you. No wonder you're stuffed!

Paul, it's good that Mary Ann just needs the ointment (and some TLC) and that you can be the one to help. So Lara's gonna be a night shift baby (like a lot at her age...)? Oh, the lucky parents!

Philnrunt, congrats on getting your "photo-legs" and being able to post pics now.

Last night I started putting together one of my Bowser ATSF 70 ton covered hoppers. I think it will be...um... 'a learning experience', yeah, that's it! One of the end's bracket arms that support the walkway is missing (broken off), and I'm trying to figure how to make another bracket. This one's a bit more complicated in assembly, it appears, so I'll have to take my time on this one. I like it, though!

Better get going - want to get back to the covered hopper, and maybe also play with a couple of ideas for a spare room-sized layout.

Good to see Luc back in - hope Glo is doing ok and I wonder how many career changes Luc has been through since his last visit.

Speaking of our Canadian friends, has anyone heard from Fergie since the ski trip or is he still imbedded in a pile on the mountain?

Lots of fun changing the wireless router that went out tonight. Got it all back up except for my youngest sons which shows connectivity but won't bring up the internet.

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,

Another beautiful day down here in Paradise.    Just a bit of drizzle in the morning but that burned off fast.  Into the mid 70's by afternoon.

We took advantage of the nice temperature to go out to the orange grove and cut another carload of fruit.  Still a lot on the trees.  The Mandarins are definitely past their prime, but still edible.  We're into Reinas now.

Phil - glad I could post one of your shots.  I've sent you an email with some posting guidelines.  Now that you have the photos on Photobucket it's easy to post them in here.

Jerry - glad to see that they repaired your chair.  How long until you get the new one?

Ryan - yup.  Used the sardines.  Not as strong a flavor, so I used more.  Like I say, with all the stuff I throw in the sauce it's kind of hard to say whether it worked.  But the sauce was pretty good.

Chicken fajita soup??    That would be different.  White beans and rice??  Are you still on those heavy meds?

Evening Gang: Well Baby Lara is home and has taken to it well. She didn't even want to wake up for supper. Dianne and John will get the business tonight. I bet they are both pooped tomorrow.

No MRRing here. Mary Ann had a doctors appointment this afternoon. It went well just a couple of new spots that I'll have to treat. She gets these skin cancers pop up now and then. They are not the bad kind but need tobe taken care of. Useing the ointment is easer then having them cut out. She's been down that road a few times.

Tomorrow I'm going out to Clark Gardens to dig some Pampas grass that they are going to get rid of.I'll bring a bunch to Mary Ann for the yard and Terry will get some for his railroad.

I think that I'll head out now.

A well deserved Restaurant plug: We ran up to Blue Ridge today (got a CV boot for the Polaris Ranger). We were starving so decided to splurge and eat out. Went to Ruby Tuesdays and ordered. A short time later the Chef came out and said, "I have some good news and some not so good news". Long story short, he burned our food but offered us free salad bar while he cooked it up proper. Then, after the meal (which didn't take long at all and was quite good) the Chef came out with a HUGE dessert plate with a large yummy flakey cake thing covered in vanilla icecream and strawberries with whipped topping (also complimentary). Wife and I were so stuffed by the time we left and the food and service was so good, just wanted to share this with you. (I'm a big fan of Longhorns, but this Chef won us over)

***Ryan, really enjoyed the pic inside the cab. Looks a lot simpler than an airline cockpit. Looking at the cup holder and snacks, almost wish I had been a train engineer.

Got my chair fixed today itwas a broken left axele...They told me I would have to pay for it cash but after a couple of phone calls they decided the axele was less[much less] than a year old and they had to replace it..First they tried to tell me they had replaced 6 axeles this year...more phone calls...talking to medicare is like trying to talk to a fence post!...but I got it fixed and they covered it..

Worked a little putting couplers and trucks on the NYC box car...

Afternoon folks!

Been busy at work and playing catch em ups and such.

Awoke at 1:00 am this morning with a coughing attack,  made some hot tea and watched the Weather Channel while the rain storms passed through, and finally went back to sleep around 3:00 am in front the TV, now I'm tired too!  Go figure!

Rob I think that rain last night might have filled up more than a couple a water tanks...just wish I had a few like yours.

Mitch I still need to program my scanner to the NS and CSX freqs around here too!  I heard three traffic accidents on the way home from work yesterday, all with injury too. When are these people going to learn to drive in the rain?

Duke CB huh, used to have those CB units on the tree service rigs when I worked years ago as a crew chief, and it made for easy communications between the trucks and the office. You know, like calling in to make sure that the coffee pot was not empty upon our return, important stuff like that. 

Lee saved those railroad radio links as a favorite, thanks! That's some bad luck with the parts delivery trucks, maybe they need new brakes too!

Ed got the stove fired up again I see, no problem, just let us know beforehand when you need some burner space, always willing to accommodate a fellow chef!  So you subbed the sardines for the anchovies??? Oh, and BTW, that lift up section on your layout is really nice, and does make for an easy wiring among other under the benchwork activities.

I had some errands to do,stopped at wally's mart. OK, I can't be the first one that ever noticed this but the styrene "for sale" etc. signs are the perfect thickness for road crossings and such.I picked up two 15"x19" signs for $1.97 each.It was enough to pave around and between the tracks at the Spooner station!If I had to guess, I'd say the thickness is .020 and the smaller 10"x14" is probably .010.Those were $.97 each.The bigger ones were about  the same thickness as what ya get for roofs in DPM kits.Cut it with scissors.

LEE: just noticed the wife went a little nuts or the keyboard got stuck as she sent that map about 5 times last week! Sorry!She said she sent the whole(not very long) Omaha website to you.I gave her a stern talking to.

Weather's actually pretty good here today, partly sunny and 26f.That's supposed to change tommorrow.
