(1/2 decaf, 1/2 reg) please & thank you.
***Ryan, my vote goes to the middle one with all the paynes. (a close second choice is the first one) The ones on the old RR building in Auburn WA (long gone now) had similar ones if memory serves me. If I can dig out the photos I'll scan them to share.
Long day today...exhausted. Tomorrow the temp rockets up to 70 or so. Sounds like a perfect day to finish up some outside projects. Need to rest now. Take care all. Rob
Evening Gang: I'll vote for the 64 pane window.
I got the hay out for the cows. It dosen't take long to put out 4 bales with the new tractor. The hardest part is climibing in and out of the cab. It's 3 steps up. Anyway we also got the grass mowed along our road and went to pick up our truck at the Ford dealer. It needed looking at as it was trying to give the engine power while I was trying to stop. That dosen't work too well. We also had the 60,000 mile check up done since we will be driving it to Albaququie this Christmas. One thing that I really don't need is a paire of tennis shoes. I have moccisins that I made maybe they will do?
Well Daisy the dog is in bed and Mary Ann just walked in so I'll say Good Night All.
Ryan,
64 paynes look the best. I have downloaded several roundhouse pictures from various historical sites and your 64 is the most historicly correct from this region.

Hey all -
Hope everyone is doing good this day! I'm only in for a quick second as I need to go get some stuff to decorate the apartment with this weekend. G/F and I are going out tomorrow to but the tree and then decorate that on Sunday.
JimCG - Yes, I did check off the items I'd like from both catalogs. One of them happened to be the current Walther's Sale catalog. Nice things in there I can use.
In about another month or so, I can officially start 'house-hunting' as the lawyer should be calling me any day now to sign off on the divorce papers.
Well all, time to get going.
Take care!

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010
I love you and miss you Mom. Say hi to everyone up there for me. Rest in peace and comfort. Love, John. 29 March 2017
Hey there Chloe, Potatoe soup and a ham on rye today, thanks. OJ on the side.
WOW, WOW, WOW. That is a dream machine. (913) J.R. you are one lucky dog.
I am hoping that will be our next vacation. Really have a great desire to do up Sacramento museum and Portola as well.
Cold as HE double hockey sticks here this morning. When I woke the wind chill was -32C and there was not much wind thank goodness.
I can't take credit for that Flat Load I sent in. I found it on the web on another site. But thought that the "trucks" not the load were the interesting part. I think it was only CapeJim and Jeff that caught that. Come on guys and gals sharpen up. ha ha ha.. But thanks for all the interest in it anyway. Passenger car trucks on a flat. Who would have thunk it??
Finishing up some Christmas decorating, lunch then down to the "ROOM" I don't know why that always has to come last. Have any of you figured that out yet??
Hope all your needs are being met, health and weather on the upswing.
Enjoy the skiing Fergie, you sure deserve a break --- from work ---not a leg.

Afternoon Gang: Just a quick note here.
Philnrunt: Was that an AR type weapon? I've got what they now call an AP-4 with a red dot sight. I'll vote for the Lake Michigan scene myself. Maybe add a storm off on one side moving in.
I guess it's time for me to head out and get the chores done.
See you all later.
Afternoon folks-making a rare midday stop for lunch-just a bowl of chicken noodle soup & Pepsi please.
Again we got a couple inches of snow overnight. I'm just glad I didn't have to do deliveries in this mess for a change. Got our porches & sidewalks cleared & salted, & Dawn's car swept off. Let the dawgs out to play in it for a bit too.
Jim-I hope the car goes quicker also-but if you saw the proto you'd understand You're right-that article is painfully true. I just hope Jeff isn't going through the same. (I had forgotten the language is a bit "rough" in places-apologies) Yeah, that should be the layout-the one with the really detailed & lit city scenes-after all these years I still consider it the best for what it was-I have the issue also but needs dug out from deep within my parents' attic-something I'll hopefully get at in the next few weeks.
K folks-the soup was great, & I noticed the birds are having lunch out at the feeder too-gonna hit the train workbench-have a great rest of the day everyone!
please & thank you!
***Mitch, You are 100% correct! Being extremely dehydrated the Doc lectured her about that very thing. So far she has drunk more water in the past 12 hours than I usually see her have in 2 weeks. I think the thought of having another IV is even more effective than the Doc's scolding. For someone who starts lots of IVs each shift, my wife sure is a wimp when it comes to getting stuck with needles herself. Oh, and I hope You are feeling more like your usual self soon, Mitch.
***Philip, that is good news about your wife. Sorry she will have to have the other surgery, but sounds like it is worth having. Sending healing thoughts her way!
Finished critter rounds. Need to head out shortly to pick up wife's perscription for antibiotics. Catch y'all later. Rob
Good Morning, Diners - and you also, Zoe! I'll have some flapjacks, cup of coffee and some of Ed's OJ, please.
Thanks!
No ice to slip 'n' slide on this morning, thank Heaven... Warming up a little today (into the 40's F range), then rain tonight and maybe much of the weekend. On Saturday, I'm supposed (along with some other guys) help move a church friend's empty boxes out of her duplex to her storage unit, and then move some of her furniture from there to the duplex. It'd be so much better if the rain would hold off for the daylight hours...We'll see.
PC and RT, I'd bet that RT's deuce and a half had a better center of gravity compared to a van. You may want to be careful about doing donuts with the van, PC.
Garry, sounds like your club had some good operations last night. Did you have a pretty good turnout in spite of the weather?
JR, I think I'm jealous - you got to Yosemite, huh? I'll be awaiting any and all pics of that. Nice shot of the Cab Forward in the train museum.
Between JR's CFO, Rob's wife and all the others with that crud, we have a bunch of the ladies down sick. Better get 'em to the docs and help them get feeling better. This is not a favorite time of year to be down sick, not at all!
Mitch, good luck on your boxcar remake - and hope it doesn't take until next December. Is that coffee table layout you mentioned the circular one? If so, I think I have that MR issue. Your link to the 'Motherboard' article was funny, if painfully true to form...
Went ahead and ordered the 2008 MR Planning issue. I've found the MRP issues more useful for me than the Great Railroads issues. The latter seem way bigger than I even expect to have room for (or would want). The MRP layouts at least include some smaller (for me, read that as more manageable) layout plans and sizes.
Payday today:
...so some shopping is in order. About out of groceries, razors, and several other things. Need to go by the business supply section and get some magazine binders so I can have all of my MR's and RMC's orgnized where I can find them easily. I also need to finish up my Christmas shopping, and get a few Christmas cards for relatives. Might sneak in a trip to the LHS sometime Saturday, too. And there's this tree that I still don't have up yet...
Better get going - have finished up my only session of the day and I want to get some more paperwork done before our Christmas party/dinner starts at 2 p.m. Oh yeah, need to run by the store and pick up a side dish for that, too.
Blessings on your Friday,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
I think that I will have some toast and coffee. Looks like Our Amtrack trip is on. It could be a little late though.
Kevin and Mark, Don't worry about my crazy directions. They opened one lane each direction to truck traffic last night, and plan to have it open for everyone later today. It could be a little slow due to the backups. I am sure that the Looky Lou's and the gravel patches will hold the speed down.
I will check in on Sunday.

Hello everyone.
JR ... glad you got to CA RR Museum. I've got a bunch of photos I took out there also including a similar one of the SP Cab Forward. I have nice photos of the ATSF F7 A/B set preserved there, and it's outside in the sun. The SP E9 was inside as were many others. I saw the WP F7 which I believe they passed on to another museum. Some impressions I recall include of course the big SP AC12. Also I was amazed at the full-sized diarama of with an old steam locomotive postitioned as it emerges from a tunnel. That's one of the really great displays. Another neat memory was the tour inside a 1920's Pullman car. They had hydraulics to simulate the car being in motion. Again, amazing. That's only a few memories. CA RR Museum is a "must-see" for all rail fans.
John-boy and others regarding military loads. When the Army is deploying they ship equipment by the train load from Army posts. I saw a train with equipment headed out of Fort Campbell just prior to Iraq war. It may have had 60 or 70 loaded flat cars. It was hauled from the fort to Hopkinsville for interchange with CSX by two red, low-nosed GP9's looking much like Walthers GP9-M's. Two CSX SD40's were next to the train ready to haul it to the port. I believe Jacksonvllie was the port.
One of the guys at our MRR group last night was general manager of Cadiz RR before it was abandoned. He told some stories of when Cadiz RR hauled trainloads of DOD cars between Hopkinsville and Princeton (IC interchange). It required all three of Cadiz RR's locomotives (Alco S-1's) to pull the train. It took three engineers too becuase the S-1's had no MU connections. BTW, Stan wrote an article on the Cadiz RR that has been accepted by Trains magazine, and you can read about the Cadiz RR in Trains in 2008. I have two HO Cadiz RR box cars.
Cheers everybody.

Morning all!
Well, we got our couple of inches of snow last night. Some folks still haven't remembered how to drive in the stuff, but it was better then the other day. Those first snows are a killer. Either people are going so slow that you could crawl to work faster, or they forget that they can't stop nearly as fast as they can go. Whatever the case, today was pretty eneventful as for as accidents on the roads go. Thats good news! Tonight they're calling for sleet and freezing rain, so all bets are off for tomorrow morning! At least its a Saturday, so most folks won't have to venture out til later. I'll be out in it though. Gotta take someone to the airport bright and early. They have a 6am flight and the airport is an hour away, so I'll be up long before the sun tomorrow.
Got a great pic of my son playing bastetball with his team last night. He looks like a real pro! The team coach has asked if I'd take some pics of all of the team for a website they're designing. I told him I'd be happy to.
Oh, hey! The wifes final bandages came off yesterday! Looks like the scar isn't going to be too bad. There's still a little swelling, but she's looking more like her old self all the time! The crutches and wheelchair will still be around for a while though. Once this leg heals she's right back on the operating table to get the other one done.
So thats a peek into my little world. Whats going on in yours?
Hey Rob, hows Barbara doing? Did ya go to the doc in the box? She didn't sound so hot the other day. Been praying for her.

Good Morning All,
I'll have a regular and an English muffin please Zoe. Vacation was nice, but it's good to be back home. Returned a bit early so the CFO could go back to the docs' as she can't shake the flu-like crud she's had for the last two weeks. Curtailed the hiking a bit but we still had a good time visiting Sequoia, King Canyon and Yosemite plus the Ca. rail museum and a drive down highway 1 from Santa Cruz to L.A. (no Jeff - the other L.A. not lower Alabama). all the tourist railroads were closed for the season, so no reports on the Sugar Pine, etc. We did find the remnants of the Yosemite Valley at El Portal but the historic site is in pretty dire straits and needs lots of work. Shame all the track was ripped out in the 40's.
Sounds like the rest of you have had a fairly wild ride in my absence between weather and illness. Luckily we cancelled plans to ride Amtrak from Sacramento to Seattle while we were there as that line has been shut due to the flooding. All we got was a dusting of snow our last evening in Yosemite and the temps stayed above freezing 98% of the time. Had we taken the train ride as planned we would have been stuck in the middle of it in Oregon and Washington.
I'll try to check in later when the rest of you are about and catch up on posts over the weekend. CUL, J.R.

Evening folks-just my usual coffee in my "Eeyore-Popular Pessimist" mug please, & yes Chloe-I need to eat something here soon-only problem is Dawn makes dinner at home when I get off work, so by the time I get here I'm pretty much stuffed.
Felt off-kilter all day today-not sick, just blah. One fella back in the stacks where I was working was coughing & snorting, & just to be safe, I took 1 of those "Airborne" preventive tablets. Who knows if they work or not, but I figured they couldn't hurt. I "almost" had to work tomorrow, since they needed someone to run to our branches, but fortunately got our maintenance guy to fill in, so I'm free until after Christmas. (yay) Got home to find my Athearn Corinth & Counce boxcar I got off ebay arrived. I know I'm weird, but plan on repainting, redecalling anyways (with HK decals) into a rusty AGR ex C&C paint out car I discovered on a siding here summer before last. I mainly wanted it because it was a PS 5344, which the proto is. Oh well, even if I started tomorrow, probably be this time next year before it's done-a lot of work needs to go into this one.
Johnboy-good catch-I haven't had the chance to catch a DODX flat yet, let alone one with a cool load like that. Best I caught (at Sterling Ohio where I railfan) was a GE 50 tonner (?) on a flat eastbound about this time last year.
Ryan-I have liked your roundhouse photos. Were those old Suydam metal kits difficult to assemble? I remember as a kid seeing those in the Walthers catalogs & the line "soldering skills required" which scared me away-I hadn't touched a soldering gun up to that point (I was about 12) & still probably not the best now.
Fergie-hope you make it home without any further weather problems. That was a cool link you sent earlier as to current ship positions. Since I'm a classic country music nut, where you're at puts me in mind of the Hank Snow song "Squid Jiggin' Ground."
Lee-I'm "almost" a year older than you (42 on Jan 1st YIKES) I've got 25 1/2 years in where I'm at, & it appears I could possibly retire in 7-8 years. I still have a lot of time yet, & things to look over before I have to make that decision. But the thought of not having to go to work, puttering around the house, working on TRAINS, keeps me going!
Charlie-I let you have space in our driveway-Dawn's looking for a place to run her sweet running N scale Atlas Soo Line RS-1 again but weather here isn't too much better than where you're at. Oh well, guess she'll have to wait until I hopefully get working someday on the coffee table layout (based on an awesome one in the March '78 issue of MR)
Jeff-I let Dawn glance at your comp problem post, since she's a comp guru, but she seemed to feel that it was one of those "you have to be there to figure out" things. (also she was tired & ready for bed I think) Don't feel bad-she's run into similar problems in the past herself. We're hoping you're right in your diagnosis BTW. Now after all is corrected, what you've went through you might find a bit of humor in this link-we have the book at work & read this story & find you can relate a bit. haven't figured out how to direct link here yet, so you'll have to copy & paste this:
http://www.mentallyincontinent.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=299
Rob-make sure you take care of your better half-& MAKE SURE SHE GETS HER FLUIDS! I know with my Mom's illnesses in the past year or so dehydration was one of the main problems.
Sue-glad things are quieting down out there a bit-Dawn's beadmaking buddy lives in Allyn, & she's told us through IMs & emails of the problems going on out there. (fortunately she's been OK so far) & hope you stay the same.
Okay-gettin' late-better hit the sack folks-I'm way too chatty tonite (must be that coffee) oh well-nite all!
Hello Diners.
MRR group met and we operated just two layouts - mine and Gus's. Only four guys as some stayed home due to rain. My new yard helped to serve the steel mill. As I continue building the layout, this yard will be on a lower level and will not have scenery. No major derailments this evening, but it was sad to see Gus's wrecked E9. He already has parts on order.
Good to read all your posts.
Cheers!
Evening, Chloe - bit of a chill out there tonight! A cup of hot cocoa and a grilled cheese sandwich sounds good to me, please.
Thanks! Oh, and look who's covering for this page! Chloe, keep me a running total and I'll settle up in the morning - paycheck will be in by then.
I can only guess how cold it feels up Johnboy's way there in Saskatchewan (or by CNCharlie's place)... Down here in our area, they've eased up a bit on the forecast, but still some black ice possibly tonight. The weather maps look like Inch and Jerry and our Indiana and Ohio crews may get hit with more of the worse weather out of this go-round.
Paul, hope your doctor gets you feeling better (after you get the treadmill out of the way, anyway). At least you get to get a pair of sneakers out of the deal. But do what the doctor recommends so you get better quickly, okay?
Flashwave, that's one lllllonnnnnng train! You might have to make your layout area bigger just to have enough mainline to run that circus by!
Johnboy, that looks almost like some trucks off of a heavyweight passenger car that they put under that flatcar. That's probably one heavy load on them, too!
Ryan, I never did build a Suydam metal kit my earlier time working on MRR'ing, but I do have a yard tower now, that's a later edition (California Models) of the old Suydam. I'm trying to figure out where I can justify putting it when I get more layout space. Not enough with my tiny-sized current layout, though.
Fergie, I wouldn't mind if the weather moves past us and sits over Indiana and Ohio for a bit... ( Did I say that out loud? ) Hope the wind holds off long enough for you to get back to port and go skiing.
Jeff, your description of the phone call with your techs sounds all too familiar to me... I think some phone techs are as bad as a total computer newbie on any problems that aren't in their scripts...
Wonder how Garry's club layout/show went tonight, after that start with the E-units. Definitely want to get that safety interlock installed, Garry. Our old club layout had one, but it was all built before I joined, so I'd have to ask some of the members to find out how they did it.
Speaking of our MRR club, Sunday afternoon we're having our club's Christmas dinner/party at the LHS owner/member's home, and they said to bring along a loco if we want to run one. I don't have a throttle (DCC) yet, but may take one of my locos along to test run.
Lee, sounds like you put on a good feed at your work today. Sorry I missed it!
Started setting up a MRR inventory database tonight (in AppleWorks), so I can get an inventory list printed out to take with me when I go to LHS'es and other stores and avoid getting duplicates. Used some information fields from a commercial inventory system I'd seen a while back, with some modifications for my needs.
Everyone watch yourselves out there if there's ice, snow or a mix in your area. PC, I can relate to your description of local drivers and how they (don't!) handle snow - I used to live in the Bootheel of Missouri, where the terrain is about as flat as can be. One winter there, they got snow (surprisingly), and the people didn't have a clue on how to drive on the white stuff! I thought it was funny, having grown up in the St. Louis area where there are more hills - and definitely more snow! When it'd snow up there, we'd go find an empty shopping center parking lot and practice driving our 'donuts' in the lot for fun.
Well, better be finishing up my cocoa and grilled cheese, and get headed out for tonight. Everyone take care of yourselves and stay healthy! Prayers for Barbara, Paul and any others ailing out there.
Blessings and a good night to all,
Evening all
Chloe could I have a piece of apple pie and glass of milk Please.
Rob And they say men are stubborn. Hope you can get your wife to rest a little. Sounds like all the stress she has been under caught up to her. Hope she is feeling better.
Fergie glad to hear your headed home Sunday river has some snow just waiting for you. You wouldn't be planning on stopping right there at the start of the access road for refreshment would you? Wife and I have eaten there a couple of times neat looking at the brewing process. ANd there beer sample is really tasty. Another thought for your ski retreat is Saddleback in Rangely they say that is getting better and better under new ownership and they have invested wisely. And the rates are very reasonable. Just a suggestion for next year.
Ryan alot of good work in the roundhouse.
Lee glad to hear your feed was a success.
Jeff those who really now th eproblem usually have a hard time convincing those who think they now every thing Now what I mean LOL
Sue Could you run those directions again I got loss at the second right LOL Glad to hear your parties were a success hope you get your outing on Amtrak
Der impressive layout hatch is really quite impressive.
After christmas I get to build my daughter a new bedroom and then I can begin on my new layout tore the old one down. I have the start of a few ideas but need to refine them.
Take care
Kevin
Ahh, this is more like it- back at the old keyboard with space between the keys so my monster fat fingers don't hit three keys at once. I much prefer desk tops to lap tops.
Jeffrey- Read and re-read your problem, and I can say "Huh? What?" with all honesty! The one time my puter messed up real bad I hit it so hard it broke the mirror behind it. Had to send it to my rocket scientist buddy in Seattle to get it fixed. He told me that was not a good way to fix computers, but it sure felt good when I punched it! A few days later I took my old computer out and shot it full of .223 holes. That feels even better!
Mudded more of the room addition today, probably will be shopping for paint and flooring this weekend. Amyjo told me I could paint it in any colors I wanted. I mentioned Coral, Turquoise, Azure Blue and Sea Green, and the look on her face was priceless. Then she said- whatever colors you want. So we'll see just how much we can make it look like The Seychelles! Or a Lake Michigan sunset.
Well, just wanted to check in, probably won't be back till Sun night, gotta remember what page this is.
Have a great weekend, all!
Mark, They have managed to get one lane north and one lane of the freeway open to semis only. They said some of it will be gravel and rough.
You can either take the backroads that front the freeway, or take Hwy 7 and go through Morton and HWY 12 to I-5. Either way it will be slow. At Exit 88, you can take the old highway 99 to Centralia. Then follow the road into town. Take Pearl Street to Chehalis. Stay in the right lane in Chehalis and it will send you south. That road becomes the Jackson Hwy which will intersect with Hwy 12. Go west to I-5. It will be slow going.
If you try it. I would mapquest it so you know what you are getting into. Go to www.WSDOT.WA.GOV if you want to get discouraged.
Amtrack is running again, so I am taking the train to Seattle this weekend with my office.
