Good Morning, Diners! Zoe, a cup of coffee and glass of Ed's OJ, plus I'll have some of Bill T.'s breakfast buffet, too, please. Thanks!

Got some sleet and snow last night here in Cape G., but the roads are okay this morning. I'll see what the car's windshield is like when I go out to check if I have to scrape it or not.

Once again, THANKS folks for your thoughts & prayers-it means a lot!!!! Smile [:)]Thumbs Up [tup]

And Mitch, there're more where those came from, too! Smile [:)]

Lee, good to hear FoulRift will be back. Hate to see any Diner stay away too long.

Good morning!

Some snow is still on the ground this morning and after 3 days that is quite impressive for this area of the Piedmont in NC.

Got a lot of train progress done this past weekend, here are a few updated images for your review.

Got some help from my little buddy Ben with making trees, he caught on real quick after I showed him how to make one of these.

This is some of the newly completed scenery and planted trees. The 72' Chevy pickup is going to wait for that loco to cross first, Bubba knows not to try to beat it past that crossing.

Here's the birds-eye view for some general orientation on how it is all coming together.

Glad you all liked the CZ menu specials and the salmon seemed like a hit, and today the menu is another mixed bag from various fallen flags railroads.

Mitch, sounds like a lot of good advice coming from those who have been there or have known those who have. Thoughts and prayers for your mother continue.

Gerry, thanks for the COPD reminder, my granddad died from a build up of fluid around his lungs when he was only 71 years old. He smoked for 90% of his life and I am sure his early death was a result of his years of cigarettes and pipe smoking. Hey, is "Blackhawk" inspired by the namesake city found in the Colorado Rockies?

Hey Dick, I am glad that my modeling techniques with the swing gate inspired you to create your own design!

Rob, sorry about the nanny goat that is really sad to hear and with kids too. And thoughts and prayers for you mom continue for a quick recovery.

Ed, thanks for the update on the Kingston Trio, I still have one of their albums from the 1960's.

Hey Jim....good morning...slide on over while I write up today's specials...

Here's a couple of shots from the roof of my foundry. As you can see there's still some roof damage left over from Rita.

Morning, Ryan - some nice pics there, and it's always good to have a helper for your MRR'ing projects, right? Thumbs Up [tup] Those trees look nice - what are you using for them?

Dean, didn't mention earlier - you're learning one of the 'rules' of MRR'ing: You can always use a little more room for the layout... Wink [;)]

Ed, were your magazines MR, Trains, and the like? Always want to have good reading material if you're gonna have to wait.Smile [:)] Hadn't realized that only John Stewart was left of the Trio. I think the Kingston Trio's were some of the first folk music albums I got when I was (much) younger. I still have those albums around somewhere (both some with Dave and later with John). Need to get a newer turntable and convert all my albums over to digital before they get too old or get damaged.

Rob, your critters have been having a tough time lately, haven't they? Goats wouldn't take too well to being cooped up in a barn, I'm guessing.

Last night I ordered some Arizona Rock & Mineral scenery stuff (and a Merchants Row III kit) from Caboose Hobbies. Got started after seeing a couple of pics of how someone was doing the M-R-3 in a forum topic or WPF, and wound up looking at some other pics I have of someone else's approach on that kit. So now I wait for the scenery and the kit to arrive...Zzz [zzz] Oh, I also went by R-Shack last night and got an analog multimeter (manual ranging) for about $18. I had a small digital one, but it died on me several months ago, and I 'needed' one to replace it. Maybe that will motivate me to get the wiring moving this week or over the weekend? Hope so.

Well, about time for me to get to w**k. See everyone later!

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Good morning, coffee please.

Ryan,  I like the overhead shot of the RH.  Looks like you are progressing well.

Jeff,  Your city is blending well with your backdrop.  Nice composite.

Well, I am off for a walk about with that ladies group.  It is  19 degrees here.  I am hoping for a slight increase by 9:30.

Later,  Sue

Whistling [:-^]

Good Morning Crew,

Chloe, when it slows down a bit, I'll have a green pepper and onion and mushroom omlette with a side of rye toast and some of Ed's OJ. It will be good to have it in a glass rather than a popcisile.  I'll be by the door so I can hear the local come through.

It is -17c this morning and snowing to beat the band. I am planning in staying in all day today.I'll do a few household chores to keep my lady happy then down to the mole hole and more tunnel lining.

RYAN: Chef [C=:-)] I'll order ahead on time today for supper, and I'll go with that NP Ham and orange glaze (I think it was)  Sounds pretty yummy.

Sorry to hear about the momma goat. I have a friend who raised goats for many years, but I think he sold them all as he has ended up with 24 grandchildren that take up alot of his time.

Sure hope the weather is moderating for all of you in the mid-west and northeastern States and Eastern Canada. I have spent lots of time aroung the Great lakes and St. Lawerence river and know how cold that can be with the dampness.  Out here it is a dry cold, "Dontcha Know"

Just on the weather news right now, there is another blizzard coming in from southern Alberta and covering the bottom part of our Province below the Trans-Canada highway. Sad [:(]   SOOOOO.

Keep your "bunny hugs" on (Saskatchewan term for hoody) and your sock dry.  I'll be back in later.   That is a promise not a threat.

Johnboy out.....................

Lets see what the "Wobbly" is up to this morning.

Thanks Crandell.

It's my first time here, looks like a good place to grab a coffee, get a bite to eat and shoot the breeze with the regulars.  I'll have a cup of decaf please, if you have a fresh pot on.

That blizzard appears to have arrived early here.  It's been snowing all morning but it's lightening up a bit now.  Probably more snow to come though.  Had some "gale force" winds yesterday and last night but the flag is hanging straight down today.

Pretty good cup a joe there Chloe, can I get one to go please.  I'll stop in again for lunch one day. Have a good one all! Thumbs Up [tup]

No sNoah here (yet), though they are saying it's gonna get cold again later in the week. Oops [oops] Just hopefully not real soon...

Good morning for the paperw**k today - I'm almost caught up! Only three more to go (Yippee!).

So what've the rest of you been doing this morning? Wink [;)] I'll be at the corner booth, working on my soup and glazed ham. Dinner [dinner]

Snow...Yup I've got pleanty to go around!

This is a recent pic of the 45" office trailer that I had moved onto my property that will be designed as a caboose, I'm building the copular (?) over the winter, the whole building will be painted up like a red caboose and will house my lay out when it is finished.

Now, what were you saying about snow???

Since this is your first visit in the Trackside Diner let me be the first to offer you both a warm welcome. Come and sit by the booth and tell us more about your selves, we love to hear about new folks. Last week everyone ran up their resumes to get re-aquainted. Dinner is on me tonight, but be sure to have your virtual credit cards ready if you get TOP honors. (whispering... that means if you get the top of the page on the next page you have to buy the Diner a round of drinks and the next meal too). Oh, and Ed has a virtual supply of fresh OJ shipped in special from SOB (South of the Border, Mexico border that is).

Hey all, hav'ent been in for a while.

Been a traitor. Went to a differant diner here in sunny Stewart/Jensen Beach. The place is called Frankenstiens. Cold beer and warm buns. Right on the edge of the tracks (F.E.C)

Heard a train rollin, and was suprised to see a yellow SD ??Only saw the dark blue SD40s????

Not only that, it was a SD60/SD70/SD80?sd90

last not possible, but realistic idea.

Yellow/Blue paint.

THEN i saw a BoBo GP???(38,40) F.e.C in UP colors. The paint around the logo and number was fresh yellow.

Odd?

Good evening!

Welcome to the newcomers! Let us know about your trains and layouts.

Ryan asked: "Hey, is "Blackhawk" inspired by the namesake city found in the Colorado Rockies?"... No, Ryan. I've been to Blackhawk, CO a few times, but that's not it. CB&Q had a business car (heavyweight observation) with that name. The Blackhawks were a native American tribe in northern Illinois area served by the "Q". A hockey team has the name also. My "Blackhawk" is my junction to the steel mill branch as well as the home for some of my industries.

Another fictional town is "Prairie View" which is the name of an Empire Builder Great Dome car that traveled on the Burlington from Chicago to its Great Northern connection in St Paul.

My next fictional town will not be named after a passenger car. It will be a suburb of my planned city of "Heartland". My layout expansion is just about there now. The suburb is be be named "Valley Heights", an incongruous name intended to be a bit on the whimsical side.

BTW, Ryan.....  I like your thread about trees. It's helpful. now, anybody desiring to have trees will not be "stumped".

Happy Model Railroading.

Evening everyone-Could I get a large coffee and a BLT on white toast to go please?I'm still at work but it's rather quiet with the students in class so I figured I'd stop in for a few minutes to see how everyone was doing.

I was talking to Lee and he is sending me some passenger cars and I am sending a bulkhead flatcar that I built. It has a load on it. I am planning on turning at least one passenger car into a diner. He suggested that if it came out good I should make more and offer them in the diner.Of course I'm going to name it after this diner.

Well, got to go now. I only have about an hour left before I go home so I'll catch up with you later.FoulRift

I though BoBo was electric???

Thanks on the Shay Roatary. Actually, I have a Spec Shay that'll get the Soundtraxx treatment.

I'll get a pic later. But today was lemming day for the swim team. Also called Senior Night. at the end of our humiliating defeat, EVERYONE gets thrown/pushed/jump in the pool. We started by singing Happy Birthday to the Dive Coach's daughter and pushing her in. Then we pushed in the semi pregnent Girl's coach (double points!!), then yours truly and the Girl's manager. Then everyone was in. Avon got in the act, and shoved 2 girls in. Then I swam about and helped with the lane lines. My head hurts...

I'll take a warm pasta ladies, keep the change.

 EDIT: on point, a yellow/orange engine http://www.fecrwy.com/

Welcome back FoulRift, I look forward to seeing the completed diner.  Foul Rift saved a few passenger cars from my RIP track (Stuff for swap that doesn't fit the steam era).

Welcome to the diner BlueHillsCPR (AKA Kevin)!  Order whatever you want from the diner, I think FoulRift is paying the tab, LOL

Jim, that ham and root beer float looks really good!

So Red horse, are you saying you have snow up to your caboose?

I was looking at the advertisements on a 1970's AHM box; EMD BL2 $9.95 and a Indiana Harbor belt 0-8-0 switcher $19.95.

Ryan, those trees look pretty good.

Buddy of mine (the one that gave me the HO-Scale ships) is trying to talk me into scratch building a working Mc Myler coal loader on my layout.

I did some measurements Train room #1 is 10' 4" x 25' 8 ¼".  Train room #2 is 10' ½" x 11' 8 ½".  Train room 2 will be the roundhouse and class yards.

Evening Gang:

Mitch: I'm happy to hear that your mom is doing a bit better and in a place that she likes. That's important to help her get better.

Ah, NJBob is back so things are getting back to normal. I'm glad that you are back, Welcome.

Welcome Red Horse. Sign - Welcome [#welcome] That is a neat idea to make the trailer into a caboose. Will it stil be movable? What type of a layout will it be and in what scale?

Not much here. I did get a copy of Model Railroad Planning 2008. I haven't really looked at it yet but it looks good at first glance. We went to the hospital today. Lara is in a crib and was all tucked in with a blanket. She looked so cute, like a little peanut. by the time we got back from the hospital and a stop at Wally World the day was pretty much shot. I went over to the creek and did some more dirt hauling. I think a couple of more hours and it will all be over on the north side of the creek. It is cold here today. I haven't checked the temp. Ignorance is bliss.

Lee the Mc Mylar would be interesting. A friend of mine built a loader from an article in MR and it was really nice. One person was kept busy running it.

Welcome Kevin. Have a cup of your choice of beverage on me.

Well I guess I'll head for bed.

Good Night All

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,

Another truly beautiful day down here in Paradise.  Cool [8D]  Climbed up to just around 80º, blue sky, light breeze.  I'm trying to enjoy this weather while we have it.  By March or April this will be just a faded memory, and being outside won't be nearly as comfortable.

Talked to my brother and sister up in Newfoundland this morning.  They just got another 10" (25cm) of snow.  It was -19ºC there this morning with a wind chill of -31ºC.  Yeah, they were happy for me when I told them how the weather was here.  Wink [;)]  I wonder if Fergie is still in St Johns, or whether he's already on his way back to N.S.?

It's amazing how little I can do and still fill up a day.  Although we were tired after yesterday, we got up early and did our morning constitutional, then did the big weekly grocery shopping.  In the afternoon I went to play some pool  Eight Ball [8]  with my F-I-L.  Oh yeah, and managed to fit a nap Zzz [zzz]  in there between all that stuff.

Tomorrow we plan to head back out to the orange grove to do some routine maintenance and cut some more fruit.

Mitch - hope things work out for your Mom.  Working at the library until she was 78?  That's some accomplishment.

Ryan - layout continues to come along nicely.

CG Jim:  Were your magazines MR, Trains, and the like?
Definitely.  The recent special edition of Classic Trains Magazine, and the December issue of Railroad Model Craftsman.

Kevin / Blue Hills CPR - Welcome to the Diner.  Sign - Welcome [#welcome]

NJ Bob - nice to see you back in here.

Red Horse - Wow, a dedicated trainroom trailer, to be decorated as a caboose no less!  That should be nice when you have it done.  And I'll say welcome because I don't remember seeing you in here before.  Sign - Welcome [#welcome]

That's about it for this evening.  Catch up with you tomorrow.

Hasta mañana,

Ed

This was after trying to log in to my second favorite RR forum, and the site not recognizing the fact that I logged in. So I left, tail tucked between my legs, thinking Stoooopid computer.

When I woke up, it dawned on me that if I had put the RIGHT password in, maybe I could have been in here last night. The other problem has been taken care of also. Tonight all is well with the puter world.

And it is much warmer in the PD, so I can explain that the quote the other night should have been " I'm just going outside, and may be sometime". It was Capt. L.E.G. Oates, of the Scott Antartic Expedition, who knew that, due to his frostbite injuries, he was slowing his team members down, and cutting their chances for survival. Even with his sacrifice, all perished. Still, I've always admired him. And Scott, Shackleton, Amundsen, Peary, etc, etc. Tougher men than I. So there you go, JIMRC and Ed. Sorry I didn't get it right the first time, but my mind was numbed by the cold that night!

Silverspike and CN Charlie- Thanks for the good wishes for Runtzpunkin, she has become such a huge part of my life that just the thought of her not being around can choke me up. For someone who never really liked pets, I sure have changed. Never liked kids either, and now both of 'em are incredibly important to me. How the once mighty have fallen.

Rob- Sure do hate to hear about the nanny goat. Nature sure can be unforgiving at times.

BlueHillsCPR and Redhorse- Welcome, hope to see you in here alot.

Looks like the temps are gonna tank again, it was 10F when I came in to w**k, and I think the high tomorrow will be in the teens. Great. I was really worried that it might not get stoopid stinkin' cold again. Glad to know I was concerned for no reason!

Take care all, now that I remember my password, maybe we will see y'all tomorrow.

Good evening gents, just stopped in for a cold root beer, been steam cleaning the carpets for the CFO, one of the HD jar projects that I have been putting off for three years.....what a job, the actual cleaning was easy, moving all the furniture...well...at age 69 ( Friday ), Sigh [sigh]  that is another matter all together, the mind is 20 + but the body says the truth.

RED HORSE: Welcome to the Diner Sign - Welcome [#welcome] , I have been through your town several times, we go to Attitash Mountain every Feb and Oct, and been all through that area, route 12, 16, 302, 153, Chocorua, etc.. Maybe you can go to CSRR and get a set of trucks and some old rail to place under the trailer. I live about 2.5 hour drive SW of you, just outside the city of Worcester, Ma.

CN CHARLIE, KEVIN, JOHNBOY:  Blizzard conditions up there, -22F, is that what we can expect in new England in a couple of days? This has been some winter, I am now on my third row of fire wood, ( 3 of 3 ) and hope it holds out until the snow melts so that I can get up back and bring in more wood from the covered pile in the west 40.

ED: Be careful crossing the river in your truck to get to the OJ grove !!!!!

RYAN: Great method on making trees, very cost effective. BTW, how come that cell phone can't run our trains on DCC?

Ok, time to hit the sack, see you guys for breakfast...JEFF, your up for morning coffee duties Cloe told me to tell you, and BTW, better fix that roof damaged by Rita before next season hits, only 4 months away mon ami,

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !!
