Hey all, hav'ent been in for a while.

Been a traitor. Went to a differant diner here in sunny Stewart/Jensen Beach. The place is called Frankenstiens. Cold beer and warm buns. Right on the edge of the tracks (F.E.C)

Heard a train rollin, and was suprised to see a yellow SD ??Only saw the dark blue SD40s????

Not only that, it was a SD60/SD70/SD80?sd90

last not possible, but realistic idea.

Yellow/Blue paint.

THEN i saw a BoBo GP???(38,40) F.e.C in UP colors. The paint around the logo and number was fresh yellow.

Odd?

( OH NO!! Bad Timing!!) Load em up boys, it;s on me (a firsrt)

I though BoBo was electric???

Thanks on the Shay Roatary. Actually, I have a Spec Shay that'll get the Soundtraxx treatment.

I'll get a pic later. But today was lemming day for the swim team. Also called Senior Night. at the end of our humiliating defeat, EVERYONE gets thrown/pushed/jump in the pool. We started by singing Happy Birthday to the Dive Coach's daughter and pushing her in. Then we pushed in the semi pregnent Girl's coach (double points!!), then yours truly and the Girl's manager. Then everyone was in. Avon got in the act, and shoved 2 girls in. Then I swam about and helped with the lane lines. My head hurts...

I'll take a warm pasta ladies, keep the change.

 EDIT: on point, a yellow/orange engine http://www.fecrwy.com/

Sorry, I meant 4 axels... BoBo means 2, 2

 andthe o,o ??

Morning folks!

The low was 39° F this morning, a regular warm front, but the Artic Express is coming again tomorrow....sigh...Sigh [sigh]

Glad that the mini tree clinic was of use for some folks, and thanks for those who made positive comments on the layout progress! Cool [8D]

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] Welcome back Avenger and NJBob! Though, NJ, I never really thought that you left us!

Ryan asked: "Hey, is "Blackhawk" inspired by the namesake city found in the Colorado Rockies?"... No, Ryan. I've been to Blackhawk, CO a few times, but that's not it. CB&Q had a business car (heavyweight observation) with that name. The Blackhawks were a native American tribe in northern Illinois area served by the "Q". A hockey team has the name also. My "Blackhawk" is my junction to the steel mill branch as well as the home for some of my industries.

Another fictional town is "Prairie View" which is the name of an Empire Builder Great Dome car that traveled on the Burlington from Chicago to its Great Northern connection in St Paul.

My next fictional town will not be named after a passenger car. It will be a suburb of my planned city of "Heartland". My layout expansion is just about there now. The suburb is be be named "Valley Heights", an incongruous name intended to be a bit on the whimsical side.

BTW, Ryan.....  I like your thread about trees. It's helpful. now, anybody desiring to have trees will not be "stumped".

Garry, I like your naming convention for the layout; I still need to hammer out the names of areas on my layout. I like your humor too! Laugh [(-D]

Good Morning All,

I'll have a regular and a glazed donut to go please Zoe. Lots to do and a late start besides so I gotta run. I'll try to check in later.

Welcome back NJBob and welcome to our two new folks. The idea for using a trailer for a layout  room is great. We used to have a character about here who had his layout around the upper part of his motor home which was his permanent residence. Catch y'all later, J.R.

I cleaned up work area a little and then ran train for a while last nite...hadn't run any thing on the mine tracks since before Christmas..Got track cleaned and running...

Lee... Saw your post about the 70's AHM prices...I remeber that in the 60's and early 70's they ran one of the AHM engines for 19.95 every Christmas including cab Forward and the big boy...My first HO steamer was a Nickle Plate berk Sallie got me for my birthday for 19.95...You could buy them at Woolworth and the old Woolco's....The FM's. E 8's and BL's could be found for 7.95...Now you know why some of us old timers choke on the price of these engines today...Funny story on the Berk..I was new to Model Railroading I bought a tube of oil to oil the berk with not seeing that it was not for plastic about 6 months later I put it on the track cranked trottle open nothing just a high pitched whine...The oil had soften the gear tower....I cryed big tears...

RT....Hope things go OK with Insurance...

Ryan...Thanks for the Tree clinic...

Red Horse....Great idea Trains in a trailer that looks like a Caboose..What scale will layout be?..Can't wait to see more photos...

Afternoon everyone and thanks for the welcome back.Top of the page-Guess I'm buying today.

Mitch-I hope everything goes well for your mother. My doctor told me back in June that I had COPD.It kills me just to do the simple things. He gave me a RX for pills to help to quit smoking and they worked .I quit for 3 months until ins. co wouldn't pay for them anymore.Because of that and other stresses at the time I went back to smoking. Not a smart thing to do.Anyway goo luck.

Ryan-I'll have a bowl of soup and the Blue Plate Special. Thanks

I can't wait to get the passenger cars from Lee so I can make a diner (Elliotts Trackside naturally). Should make for an interesting project. NJ Bob

Whistling [:-^]Whistling [:-^]

Good afternoon Fellas & Gals,

Chloe, I'm not going to wait for supper, bring on that "Blue Plate Special"  sounds great and a large 7-up or Dr. P. for a swish.

RYAN: Chef [C=:-)]Great work on those menus. Don't think I'll be going any where else to eat anymore. Wonderful staff you have here as well.. Who is cooking these days ?? and that Chloe and her sister Zoe are just knockouts.

DICK:    If you get a chance, I would go and get yourself some more firewood, I don't think it is over for awhile yet.  TOday all over western Canada it is close to the -20c.   Edmonton & Grand Prairie are -19c,  Calgary is -17c. Here in Regina it is -19c Even in Spokane Washington it is -13c.  So it looks like it will take the better part of the week to shake this off. Second pair of socks weather for sure.

Ed:  Cool [8D]"Youre da Man".  We all should be so blessed to have a life like yours. Wow!! [wow] Even afternoon siestas. Warm weather, beautiful senioritas, endless OJ. Copper Canyon train rides, It just doesn't get any better does it ?????

Paul:  Very gald to hear that "Little Lara" is growing strong and doing well. Bet you are a proud "Papa"

NJBob:  I have been trying my darndest to copy and paste a picture that I wanted to share here about the light at the end of the tunnel. But I haven't got it figured out yet. Maybe I have to put it in a Word Doc. first and then move it.  I'll keep trying. Glad you changed your mind.

Phil:   So sorry to hear about Runt, Those are always sad times. Over the years we have lost (due to old age) to many wonderful companions. So tough you always think I won't do that again, but, they have lived their life span and I think have had a good life especially if they were fortunate enough to be part of a family who really loved and appreciated them, and there is always a little guy or gal needing a good place to live out their lives as well. so we just move on and fill that void with a new bundle of fur, and enjoy their own personality.

Red Horse.  I have always thought it would be great to have a caboose. What a great get-away it would be. But you have put a whole new twist on the matter.  Great idea and I'll be waiting for spring to watch your progress on it.  Lots of luck.

CNCharlie, I think you know this but anyway, That "Odorless Garlic" is just what it says. It is odorless and no after taste.  I take it regularily, it helps to keep the imune system strong. Now to change the subject, could you please tell me when CN stopped running to Churchill and if this new "Yankee" outfit runs right out of Winnipeg or do they interline with CN up there somewhere like Thompson ???

Well the Postman just arrived with my order from Micro-Mark, so I guess you know what I'll be doing for awhile.   Fairly large package and it took two weeks to get here.  I guess that is not too bad coming through customs and all.  I bought a NWSL. Chopper, and magnetic building jig, those rubber mixing bowls, truck tuner and a right clamp and a couple of other small items. They all look pretty good. kind of anxious to get to use them now.

Have a great Day and evening all,  prayers and blessings to all in need.

Johnboy out.................

Red Horse: Welcome to the diner. I like your idea having a dedicated trailer as your layout room. I have my layout in the front room of my trailer. That gives me a space 7' 8" wide, 10' long on the right side and 6' 5" on the left side. I had to leave space for the kitchen and entry door. I live in the back room and the bathroom and closet are in between.

Good morning.

Went to see the foot doctor yesterday afternoon. He says my foot is looking good and to keep up what I'm doing. This morning I had an appointment with my primary care provider who said basically the same thing about my overall health. He did increase my insulin dosage a little bit though. It was 90 units. Now it's 100 units (1 cc).

JohnBoy- As an example -when I did my avatar I did it in MS Publisher. I then copied it to the clipboard and pasted it into my editing program-IrfanView.I then converted it to a jpeg and uploaded it to Photobucket and then to my profile. It works the same for posting photos. If you can't make it work, send it to me and I'll see what I can do-NJ Bob

Hello ...

I'll have the GM&O Steak and rings please. The NP apple pie ala mode for dessert. Thanks.

Ryan ... I bet you are a ware that the specialty of the house in the NP diners were their jumbo baked Idaho potatoes.

Jeff ... good news abou the foot. Glad to hear about that. Sorry, however, to learn that you need more insulin. Best wishes.

Paul .. Gald to hear about little Lara's progress. Sounds vwery good!

Colby ... I bet you will study hard for those mid terms and get some A's.

Rob ... If you continue specifying union Pacifc mugs for your coffee, it will be "U.P." for sure ...er...uh..oh, never mind...  never mind.

NJ Bob ... Please stay away from smoking if you have COPD.  I can tell you for sure, you don't want that condition to get worse. Tell us you have quit in your next post, please. Good luck with the passenger cars.

Happy Model Railroading

Garry-I can't tell you that I quit. When you have been smoking for as long as I have it's not easy.As I have heard many times nicotine is one of the most addictive drugs there is and one of the hardest to kick. For some people it's not that hard, for others like me it's an uphill battle and I've got the scars on my butt from all the times I have slide downhill.NJ Bob

Yes Ed I made it home! Came home a day early as I figured the weather was going to be bad. I guess there were all kinds of delays this morning due to blowing snow.

Man!  I've been out of the loop for a few days.  Between people at work getting silly and making up goofy new rules (like I can't cruise the internet while I'm doing other things that are work related because appearently some folks can't multitask and so if they can't do it, no one can......but I'm not upset! Angry [:(!] ) and my daughter turning her car into a pretzel I've got so catch up reading to do!

Yeah, you read right....My little girl had her first accident.  She's fine and so is the other guy, but the car is history.  She slid on some ice ended up running her front end down the side of some guys pickup truck.  I'm quite sure she wasn't speeding as where she lost control and where the car ended up weren't that far apart and it's a 45mph area.  It was just one of those deals where it was an icy spot where the road comes up over a knoll and curves at the same time, and she just misjudged it.  It's a pretty easy mistake to make right there for anyone, but she's still a rookie.  She's been driving for just over a year. I'm just glad everyone was OK.  She's got a couple of bruises and some sore muscles, but I think her ego took the biggest beating.

Yeah, the world will forever be deprived of this masterpiece on wheels!

Oh well, I'm going to go back a few pages and catch up on whatever it is I've been missing!

Sorry to hear the bad news Phil.  We just lost one of our 4 legged friends the day after Christmas, so I really can sympathize!

Foulrift, I quit after twenty years, cold turkey.  It was tough, but I wouldn't go back for anything!  More power to ya!

Fergie-How did you do it? Cold turkey?I have been smoking for the better part of 40 years and have tried many times to quit.Either I haven't found a method that works or I don't want to quit.It seems like when I do try to quit I find an excuse to start again.Sounds lame doesn't it?I know it's not doing me any good and I can be saving a lot of money.

So how about a challenge? You've been off smokes for 13 years-how about helping me kick the habit?I know I can use the help.My wife smokes so she's no help.NJ Bob

Evening Gang: I saw my friend Tony today. He really looked good and was talking much better. I'm not thinking that he has licked the cancer but I'm glad that he's living better. The VA folks are really taking good care of him. That civi hospital almost killed him. I took the train to Dallas. Except for missing the 12:15 and having to wait for the 1:33 the trip was good. I got off the train in Dallas and only had to wait 5 minutes for the light rail to the VA. ( For us old coddgers that's a street car. ) On the way back I got off the light rail and right on to the train. Talk about good connections.

NJBob: We are all here to help if you want. Please try again and get your wife to try also. We really care about you.

Colby: Good luck on the exams but don't depend on luck depend on study. I know that you will hit the books.

Garry: Have you been watching too many Loony Toons. You're beginning to sound like Elmer Fudd. ( evwery?? ).

Fergie welcome back to dry land. How was the trip?

Johnboy: I'm a grand pappy. At 65 I wouldn't mind being a pappy again but I don't think that Mary Ann would go for it.

Well I think that I'll head for bed.

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,

Another beautiful day down here in Paradise.  Cool [8D]  Low 80's, partly sunny.  Borderline needing to run the a/c.

Went out to the orange grove today and did some routine maintenance, plus cut some fruit, and my in-laws squeezed 5 gallons of fresh Mandarin orange juice there in the field.

No nap.  Shock [:O]  Almost ruined my day.  Tomorrow could be another tough nap day.  We're planning on dusting the golf clubs off (after a 10 month absence from the game) and heading over to the club to play nine holes.  This is the best time of year to play, because it's still not too hot.  We walk the course when we play, so playing in the middle of summer is pretty much a death march.

Northern Phil:  It was Capt. L.E.G. Oates, of the Scott Antartic Expedition, who knew that, due to his frostbite injuries, he was slowing his team members down, and cutting their chances for survival.
They don't make people like that anymore.

NJ Bob:  To tell you all the truth I probably should never have left.I tend to over react.
That's alright.  We have a short memory here in the Diner.

Dick:  Be careful crossing the river in your truck to get to the OJ grove !!!!!
It's not like we're fording the river, we cross on that old cable operated car ferry.  Now granted, it probably wouldn't pass muster for acceptable public transport anywhere north of the Rio Bravo.  But if one is going to live down here and not be in a constant state of tension, one has to let go of a lot of the expectations regarding how things should be done that are ingrained in most people up north.

Johnboy:  "You're da Man".  We all should be so blessed to have a life like yours.  Even afternoon siestas. Warm weather, beautiful señoritas, endless OJ. Copper Canyon train rides, It just doesn't get any better does it ?
Hey, I take my retirement seriously.  Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]  I studied the manual while I was a ORFIT, and siestas were a key part of the plan.  Yeah, the warm weather is fine now, and some of you wish you were here.  But it will be different come July, with 100º temps and 95% humidity.

Fergie - thanks for the photos from St Johns.  That diesel and the mail car weren't there when we were there two years ago, and I didn't notice them if they were there this year.  Must have been moved there from Pippy Park.  Looks like all three have been recently repainted.  btw, my sister said they had another 15cm of snow last night.

PC - ouch.  Glad your daughter wasn't seriously hurt.  She'll learn from that one, hopefully.

Well, this could be it for now.  I'm pretty tuckered after that orange grove run.

Hasta mañana,

Ed

Hello .......

Paul asks: "Garry: Have you been watching too many Loony Toons. You're beginning to sound like Elmer Fudd. ( evwery?? )." Actually, I donnt tipe vwery gud.

Fergie ...... I enjoyed the photos.....

NJ Bob .. I hope I didn't sound like I was being judgemental or anything..... Sounds like you've had your struggles trying to kick the habit. As was stated, we're here to be your friends. Where I'm coming from as I've mentioned is I just saw (Sept. '07) my sister-in-law die of COPD, and it an awful way to go. I'd hate to see anyone else go thru that. Furthermore, it's really tough on surviving famly members. My wife, Shelley, is still deeply grieving loss of her sister.  If you wish to quit and want a cheerin section, we're ready. Ditto for Mrs. NJ Bob, too.

While talking of lungs, are all you people protecting yours while you are working on your models? Spray paint can damge those lungs, too.

I've been reading that Warren Buffet's Berkshire Hathaway has taken advantage of low stock prices to increase its ownership of Burlington Northern Santa Fe to 18%. On a much smaller scale (microscopic in comparison), I just bought some shares of Canadian National yesterday. I was buying BNSF before Warren Buffet and got some a few years back for less than $30/share. It's been in the nineties larely but now is less than $80.00. I think RR's will continue to do well indefinately because of fuel prices.

Today, I took a break from layout construction to take care of other stuff.  This evening, I operated the layout some.

I can ahrdly wait until morning so I may have Ed's Mandarin OJ with breakfast. Mmmmmmmmmm.

Happy Model Railroading.

  Hidy hi.

Just to be clear, Runtzpunkin is still here, just on meds at this time. She's just off to my right as I type this, and still very spry and bright eyed. If I gave the impression she was less than alive, well, I don't do impressions, and now you know why! And thank you pcarrell, silverspike and last mountain for your good wishes. They do become such a huge part of our lives.

FoulRift-I absolutey followed your advice to Johnboy right up to the word "example". Then you lost me! I gotta say that people who take the time to learn how to use these things are waaaay more dedicated than I am. I am humbled by your abilities.

Went to an auction this afternoon, a house was being sold. We got there at 1555, the auction was at 1600, and by 1605 we were walking back home. Never been to a house auction, it sold for 17G, plus 4500$ in costs. 2 story, not in that bad of shape, lots of room for a layout, if the new owners were so disposed, but I didn't get that impression from them. On the street we live on, there are 4 or 5 houses for sale, and the street is only 3 blocks long. Lots of folk moving away. Around here, it's a real "have-have not" type of lifestyle. When the economy booms, we get few benefits, but when it tanks, the houses go on the sale block fast.

Gonna get alot colder than it needs to again. When our NOB members talk about -40C and other insane hellish comments, I still wonder why our ancestors stayed after the first winter. We should all be crowded onto Key West or down there with Ed this time of the year. And Ed- you say that it's not so great when it hits summer there, but it's pretty close to the same here, and we don't get the advantage of decent winters! My railroad is freight only, but I know some of you have passenger operations, we need an Orange Juice Special to head down his way! Any of you CEO's want to set it up? Get with your operations and see what thay can do for us.

Ya know, that might be a fun thing to do, start with the Canadians in the diner, and plan out an imaginary route down to Ed's place. Might just get our minds off of the cold. If any one is coming south from Ontario or Quebec, my RR can give you trackage rights around Muncie, Indiana! A little varnish on our rails might be a good PR move.

OK, gonna go do something. It'll be wrong, but I'll still get paid for it.

Evening Folks-just a quick coffee in my "Eeyore" mug & then I'm off for bed.

Update on Mom-she's still ok, but tired. I stopped today as I had large print book deliveries in the unit above her, & when I arrived, my Dad & Uncle were visiting. Her spirits are good though, & she had some checks for me to mail for her. She said they had her sitting in a chair for awhile, but after over a 1/2 hr or so, she needed to get back to bed. No complete diagnosis yet-but I'm glad she's where she's at-the main objective of the Skilled Nursing unit is to get her strength back, & it'll be awhile. She's fairly comfortable there as she knows members of the staff when she was there last year, & if they didn't know her before, they will if they remember the old TV show as her name is Dona Reed (Mom's is spelled with 1 "N") Anyways, I'll let everyone know more as when I can!

Worked a bit on my freight cars before work, but somehow broke part of the extending hopper bays on my Athearn ACF 2970 car. I dropped it once, but found it-then as I picked it up the 2nd time for regluing, it went "PINNGGGG"!!!" off to never never land! Banged Head [banghead] Athearn doesn't list them in their parts list, so I emailed them-still waiting Whistling [:-^]

Oh I almost forgot-Lee-yeah send me the train show lists-I meant to get back to you sooner. (apologies) I want to "try" to hit the ones up your way this year as the ones down here are too "toy" oriented.

Off to bed-& once again folks, THANKS for thoughts & prayers with Mom-they mean a lot!!!!!!!!!

Good morning all,

FoulRift, I'm heading to the post office this morning I'll take a SWAG that they should arrive NLT Wednesday.

Phillip, glad to hear everyone is ok.

Jeff, things are looking good on your layout.

Terry, can you email me a copy of your chart under your name?  It looks cool, but I'm going blind trying to get a better look.

I missed a few pages here because I was working on the layout yesterday.   I have the parts cut for:  four 48" x 48" corners, two 36" x 48" modular sections, and 2 backing boards for backdrops.

Get well wishes for those on the sick call list, may they have a speedy recovery.

Morning, Zoe - I'll have Ed's OJ, cup of coffee and some of Bill T.'s buffet, please. Thank you, ma'am!

Jeff, good to hear that your foot's progressing. Keep up on your insulin, though.

Sounds like Lara continues to be a fighter, Paul. Great!

NJ Bob, as the others said, we'll be pulling for you to help quit the smoking. Maybe you and your wife could quit together, and help each other stick with it, also. I was the only one in our family of four growing up who didn't get started smoking ('nuther story there for later) - my Mom died from other causes before the cigarettes got to her, my Dad was in a nasty accident with another car (and quit because he was in intensive care and couldn't smoke), but later died of respiratory problems a few years later, and I had one aunt who died of cancer from smoking. My brother quit, but not sure how - he was living out of our area by then. I had a bit of bronchitis back in fall of 1990 (while going through my separation & divorce), and I never took up 'the nasty habit'. So the sooner you could quit, the more likely it is that you could be extending how long you'll live. (Mom died at age 55, while Dad - after he quit - lived into his 70's)

PC, good to see you back in the Diner. Sorry to hear about your daughter's accident, but I bet she'll be a more cautious driver now.

Fergie - nice pics of the loco and passenger cars Thumbs Up [tup] (but almost felt cold just from looking at them, even before you told me how cold it was up your way)!

Dick, hope you got some more wood in, to keep your home fires burning. Yeah!! [yeah]

Oh, a short note to our students (Colby, Hoople, Shockwave and any others I missed) -  STUDY UP! We do expect our Diner students to get a good education (which will prove helpful later when you are done with school 'n' college). Keep at 'em, guys!

On the Orange Juice Special idea, the Colorado Arizona & Western (CAW) will grant through rights between Farmington, NM and the ATSF in Holcomb, AZ. Should be a really nice view for those in the observation dome cars as you pass through the CAW's area!

Cold and crisp today in Cape G. - it's 18 F (-8 C) with a wind chill of 3 F (-17 C). But that's okay, we're going to warm up Confused [%-)] into the TWENTIES this afternoon Big Smile [:D] uh, before we drop back to about 10 F (-12 C) tonight (minus whatever wind chill...). Oops [oops] Ah, well, just won't go out any more than necessary.

Won some auctions yesterday/last night - a P2K GP7 (undec., phase II, dyn. brakes), Walthers 4-in-1 modular building set, and an Athearn Frisco PS 2893 covered hopper. Think I need to lay off the auctions for a while now. Have to make sure I have enough left for new insurance on the car. Not wild about the rates some of the insurance companies are quoting me. I also despise their using credit history to determine rates, since that has about nothing to do with a person's driving record.Angry [:(!] Okay, time for me to step down from the SoapBox [soapbox] now.

Better get going on my breakfast and then time to go w**k so all you ORF's can get your Soc.Secur. checks! Wink [;)] Everyone take care out there with that cold weather most of us seem to be having a spell of.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Morning folks!

Question [?] QUESTION: I've been wondering about what a day in the life of a typical locomotive maintenance shop worker was like with repairing and maintaining locomotives. Do any of you know anyone who has worked on loco maintenance and repair for any Class 1 railroads? I'd like to pick their brain for a few hours!

Not much happening on the layout, but I did get to post my tree making on a budget mini clinic on a few MR forums and seems to have gotten some good response. And I learned about another technique with using ¾" medical surgical tape for roll roofing material, I like those hot, fast, and cheap scratch building techniques!

Dinner [dinner] Chloe, I'll have the Sante Fe Omelet for breakfast this morning and some of Ed's fresh squeezed...thanks!

Hey RT, did you get that insurance settlement taken car of?

NJBob, well since the Diner is a no smoking zone, that might help you get a start. I'm pulling for you to quit! I was never a heavy smoker, a few cigs and cigars here or there, but never smoked that much. Have not had one in over 8 years though, and never had the urge since. Having been in the restaurant industry there is a lot of exposure to tobacco; I used to purchase 20 different cigars brands/shapes/flavors and had tried them out often.  Just another reason I'm glad to have made a career change.

Jerry, I like the new avatar, is that you in the photo guarding all those locos?  Thumbs Up [tup] And those Nickel Plate Berks sure a beauty eh! Duke knows all about those baby's! And I haven't seen a Woolco in 30 years; they still have any of them around anymore?

.. Who is cooking these days ?? and that Chloe and her sister Zoe are just knockouts.

JohnBoy, when I'm out and about  Chef [C=:-)] Cookie here takes care of all the kitchen duties! Here he is in action dishing out some grub to the crew.

Welcome back to the land of the land lubbers Fergie! How are your sea legs? Nice pics too! There is just something magical about a train in the snow!

PC, glad to hear that your daughter was okay after the accident and that did sound like a hairy curve too! The angels were with her! Angel [angel]

Paul, glad to hear Tony is getting better!

Ed, when you ship more virtual orange juice, please add with that some warm air too! BTW, how did your sauce come out? Chef [C=:-)]

PhilnRunt, are all those houses up for auction due to foreclosures? I heard that many families have been run out of their houses in the past 6 - 12 months due to mortgage closures and bank repossessions with the sub-prime lending rates forcing them out after the rates go up! I've heard of some middle class families having to live in shelters here in the Raleigh area. Oh, and our NS Piedmont Division and SOU trackage rights can pick up the Orange Juice Special from New Orleans and run it up to Indiana, and I think KCS-MX can run to Mexico from New Orleans.

Mitch, thanks for the update on you mom, and wishes for her continued recovery continue!

Jim, congrats on the auction wins! Yeah!! [yeah]

Well, let me slide on over in the back booth and write up the menu specials for today.....

And now.....a railroad dining tasty morsel in history....
This was found on the back cover of the Denver Zehpyr Chuck Wagon menu, circa 1970:

The Chuck Wagon

Charles Goodnight constructed what was probably the first chuck wagon. He bought the gear of a Government wagon and had it rebuilt with the toughest wood he knew - Osage Orange. The wooden axles were replaced with iron and for lubrication a can of tallow replaced the usual Army tar bucket.

The chuck wagon was a commissary on wheels, equipped with a box at the rear for storing tin dishes, a Dutch oven, a frying pan, kettle and coffee pot. The standard staples also had their exact places; green-berry coffee, salt pork, corn meal, flour and beans. A folding leg was usually attached to the chuck box lid, so that it formed a table when lowered. The main body of the wagon was packed with bedrolls, slickers, and extra clothing. Fastened at the front was a water barrel.

The first day of the roundup, the men would be up before dawn to eat their breakfasts early at the chuck wagon. After supper, while the cook was washing the pots and pans, the cowboys liked to assemble around the fire for some singing. If they were lucky, a fiddler would be among them. They sang rollicking songs, sad songs, etc., but usually ended with a sacred hymn. Soon afterward, all except the night-herders would be in their bedrolls.

Morning. 4th day straight it's below 30* in the morning, but with no clouds...

Well today I get to go to the LHS after school. (meh) Maybe I'll find a nice deal. Maybe for some random odd reason the Proto 2000 F7s are 30% off.... lol.

Oh yeah, I had a Jazz band concert last thursday... Went pretty well. We got to play three songs, and there were three drummers, so I got to play only one. Luckily, mine was more of a rock tune. So of course I go nuts with fills here and there... But at the ending in a phermoda I didn't do what I wanted to do... My teacher yelled at me for going all "Led Zeppelin-John-Bonham-Ish" with the fill at the end... so I didn't get to do that.

I was told that I was the best drummer by far... I'll admit, the other two weren't that great. Weren't that bad either. Just not great.

Well that's all for now.
