Good afternoon to all, we had a great time at the "Steaming Tender" ( former Palmer,Ma trainstation ) last night. Robert Buck, the owner of my favorite hobby shop in Warren, Ma, was at the head of the table which was set up in an "L" shape around a Christmas tree. There were 18 couples there last night from all over the area. I thought it might be just a local event, but MRR's came from Springfield to the west and Ashland to the east. Bob (Robert) brought a bag full of new items that just arrived at his store for people to check over, as well as some excellent photos of trains and locomotives dating way back...I particularly liked the photos that he had of Berkshires ( a1c ) sportsmodels crossing the diamond in Palmer, Ma ( Duke you would love those!!! )
One of the guys brought the new New Haven RR Steamer just out from BLI, what a beauty that is !!!!! I got a chance to check it over...J.R. , you will want this !!!!!
We finally got all dug out from all the storms, another one is due to hit tonight and tomorrow, but our area is only supposed to get nicked with 1-3", but Colby's area in Maine might get 12". We have 24+" on the ground here, so it will definetly be a white Christmas here this year.
JOHNBOY: Must be that gingerbread that you ate so much of in the Diner last night.....take some Alkaseltzer and get some rest.
TRAINMAN: What is it with all the fish down south??? First Jeffrey now another MRR'r from the deep south, pour some of Fergie's Scotch on the fish first !! LOL
CHUCK: You can't get a break this Fall season in the Northwest, one big wind and rainstorm after another!!! At least your not where the mudslides are, we saw those on local TV here, very bad situation with the flooding also. I'll take the snow anyday, you can keep the floods and mudslides. I see you like those Branchline kits too. I have several to build this Winter. BTW, the Branchline plant is only 50 min ride from my house in CT straight down I-84.
JIM: The meal was great, the trip out there was not as good, tons of traffic at 5pm, I should have departed at 4 to miss the major commute and shopping crowd. The wife really enjoyed herself, she met an old school pal there after 28 years, small world isn't it?
PAUL: AARP has some nice plans, glad you were able to find one that suited your needs. Hopefull it will now leave you with some extra $$ for trains.
RYAN: The least I could do is send you the snowman, it sure doesn't look like north central NC is going to get a white Christmas this year, but, you never know!!!
DER JOHN: What's with the switch motor on top? There wasn't any way to mount underneith? I'm sure you checked it out though.
DUKE: Any Berkshires in the stocking this year? How about a northern? A book on trains, A section of track ??? Noooo? Ok,.......... a piece of COAL ???? Have YOU been a good boy this year????
MIKE: Ok Mike, we all haven't gained enough weight in the Diner, now you have to prove to us that you are the Martha Steward of the Diner ..LOL
WOLFGANG: WOW...that is one nice looking Gingerbread house, my grandchildren would LOVE to get their hands on that one !!!
JEFF: Have you been drinking your red cap ( full strength ) milk young man? You need your Calcium for strong bones, and enough sunlight and Vitamin "D" to strengthen those bones. Did you hear him Cloe??? Make him drink his milk, no more soda for Jeff.
ED: Ahhh, I see you've been sweating in the OJ grove again, nice and cool up here Ed, 35F right now, I'm in my "T" shirt widening the driveway a bit before the next big one. Keep those tanker cars with OJ rollin' north big guy !!!
PC: Glad to see that the wife is back home, I know that you are taking great care of her, and we will do our part with prayers for her, as well as all those in need.
FERGIE: What have you been up to, your so quiet sitting back there in the corner table assembling your Blue Box kit.
J.R. : Yes, that would be real nice if they come to Palmer.....it is only a quick 15 min ride up route 67 to Warren and Tucker's LHS.
Time to throw another log on the fire,
Wolfgang ... thanks for visiting the diner from Germany. I recall visting Germany several years back in December. I enjoyed all the Christmas celebrations there. Your WT RR is wonderful. Merry Christmas.

Good morning.
PC ... good to learn Mrs's PC's surgery went OK.
K4kid posted some really creative writing in the toast thread. beware if you are a "serious" model railroader. K4 was having fun.
We have a busy schedule lined up for the Cristmas holidays. I'll hold off on major model raildoad projects until the new year. It's be 2008. Wow! How di it get to be 2008 so soon????
Happy Model Railroading........... Have Fun, everybody!!!!______________________________________________________________________________

Good Morning Crew,
Chloe, the tummy feels better this morning, but my chest doesn't. So maybe a large OJ, from ED. and a western Omelette. Thanks much.
JR. What is with these people in Danbury assaulting Santa. I really have to object to that. That is not fair play. Even though SHE knew what SHE wanted for Christmas, SHE should have asked rather than just grabbing.
Hope all are feeling the healing power and are on the upswing with their health situation.
Finally had some time to have a good look at these two new bulkhead flats that arrived the other day. I am very pleased with them. Athern has done a great job on them and the pipe loads. It is really great that they have started to realize the necessity of different road numbers. Boy that has been a long time coming.
Well I'm back at work, so I had better make it look like I am doing something here.
Y'all have a great day now, ya hear ??
I'll try to catch ya on the back side.

Good Morning, Diners! Just a cup of coffee and a blueberry bagel to go, please, Zoe.
Thanks!
Mitch, after you pasted the link info in the post editor, highlight the entire link and (at the top where the "Message" is and all the tools) find the 'link' icon - looks like a piece of chain - it's in the fifth group if you look for the vertical dividers. Click on the 'link' icon and that should turn the link into a clickable one. Hope that helps!
Colby - the Turtle Creek layout series first ran in 2002, but in the January 2005 MR issue (where they ran how to do the extension to it) there was included an insert that covered about all of the original layout and building it. One caution - there's a difference between the overhead drawing of the layout in the insert and the insert's directions on how much track and switches you need. The part in the insert that has the track list is a few switches short and doesn't have some of the sidings in it which are shown in the overhead drawing. I think the overhead drawing would make for better operating, IMHO. You might check your local library - they may have the 2002 MR's and the 2005 one.
Better get myself going for now.
Blessings on everyone's 'hump day',

Hey guys.
Well yesterday I found out that my table was not wide enough. but I found out that I have put the hinges in the wrong place making it a 2.5ft by 7ft. now it's a true 3.5ft by 5ft.
And I'm in House Orientated scale, I thinking of doing a freelance layout from 1900 to 1950. (yes I know It might go against the natural laws of model railraoding for you prototypical layout people) You will see on my layout an 0-6-0 tripple heading with a BL2 and a GP7? (I know my NYC engine is a GP something or other. It looks very much like a GP7 so I'll go with that.) and a 0-4-0 tripple heading with 2 F7 A-units. with a whole range of rolling stock. I got old time boxcars, 40ft, and one 50ft boxcar, 2 gondolas, a open top hopper a 50ft flat car, one tank car, and many more. I also have a PA-? It's in the 1st trackside diner.
for my track plan I thinking of having a one track mainline going around the end of the table with a 1/2 inch bufferzone. a spur will turn to the inside of the mainline and trun into the engine/car repair facility with employment of a Truntable, a nother spurn will become part of a passing track that will double as the local depo, and possibly a industrial spur will come off one end of the passing track to serve either a coal mine or a nother depo in town for the local shops and busness's. now I might have a coal mine on a spur that ends near the edge of the table and with some modofying of the mainline I can fit the mine in there. and I might use this layout as my trial one for using DCC. with help from the club, you guys, and a friend of mine who is a retired engineer and used to work for ex. Guilford now Pan Amm.
Good Morning All,
22F and partly cloudy this morning though it sure looks completely overcast just now. I'll have a regular and a donut to go please Zoe.
Museum last night where I cleaned up the track on the Npossible gauge layout and worked on some Lionel stuff trying to get it to run better. Most of what the museum has is just about used up with worn bushings and excessive end play in the armatures so we're going to have to come up with a rebuild program if we're to have any running locomotives in Lionel by the end of next year. Guess we'll have to invest in a rebuild guide and some parts.
Lots to do again today as we thrash to get long term things underway and parts ordered. I'll pop by later if possible. CUL, J.R.
Mornin, coffee please Zoe
Happy burthen day LIL ROB
PHILRUNT,, we shop very little at Wally world. Figured out we can buy a lot of stuff cheaper and better quality else where, along with better service.
MITCH,, if you copy the address on the top of the page, and paste it, then hit the enter key. It should activate it.
I forgot something last night. One of the guys Deb works with gave her a catalog for historic Rail. Looks like they have some ok prices on trains n other railroad stuff. Here's their web page

Good Morning from Tipton IN !
Bill Tidler Jr.
Near a cornfield in Indiana...
Evening folks-just coffee thanks!
Haven't been in here for a few days. I see that health issues are plaguing a number of the regulars. My best wishes for everyone who is under the weather in any way-we've been fortunate here as the only health issue is with one of our dogs Logan having an upset stomach off & on, but he's doing ok & lets us know he's happy by "grinning" (baring his upper teeth while wagging his tail.) Dawn took him to Pet Supplies yesterday to pick out his Christmas present (bag of pig ears-chew chew) & a couple more squeaky balls for Magick the border collie.
Went to a college grad party for one of my railfanning buds Sunday-a good number of the folk I encounter where we go (Sterling) were there, & it was good to see them since I haven't been up there since the last of Sept. Also nice to talk trains 1 on 1 with someone again. One of the younger guys from a Cleveland suburb was there & we got to talking-he's an N scaler, NKP & steam person. We were talking about Berkshires in N, & I mentioned that there was a fella on the forums here that was doing a great job kitbashing a PRR Mountain in N scale by the name of Dave Vollmer. Once he heard the name, he laughed, "MIDDLE DIVISION!" I laughed too, & said, "I take it you know of him." "OH yeah!" he laughed. He was a fan!
(Looks at clock) I better hit the sack folks. But I did want to share this-found it on youtube a few nights ago. These guys are as well known in this area as anyone known nationally-they hosted old late night movies for over 40 years here & did some silly (clean) skits in between. The one in this I thought would be appropriate here is about a minute into the video-I haven't figured out yet how to make a link active here yet, so apologies since you have to cut & paste.

Gnite folks!
Howdy all!
Went to the local lumber yard today, to pick up what I desperately hope will be the last drywall mud we see for many years to come. BUT, and there is always a but, isn't there? - Amyjo mentioned to her brother today that she was thinking of drywalling the bedroom we are moving out of. It's good enough to sleep in, but not to run trains or scrapbook?!?!? The look on my face as she told him must have conveyed my overwhelming joy at hearing this, as the subject was quickly switched to another subject!!
We have a Super Wal Mart in the same town, and I'm sure they have mud there, but it's probably made in China of melted lead, or some such stuff. I try to avoid shopping there as much as possible, but since they moved in, there aren't many competitors left. Oh well, we all lie in the beds we make, huh? Give away the future to save 15 cents on a 2 dollar item.
But on the other hand, they did have my pictures developed, and I can't fault them there! The pics of the KCS units came out just fine, and if all goes right-HARHARHAR, it just kills me when I say that, 'cause we all know how silly that is- I'm gonna try to figure out how to upload them to photobucket, then hyperlink them from here to interface with a priority modem overide request.....Dave, what are you doing? Don't do that, Dave. Sorry, slipped into HAL mode there for a bit. Anyway, we'll see if I can do it, if not, we'll get help. One way or the other, maybe we can show what the RR engineers of today have to put up with as far as working conditions. I don't know how they do it. The Barca-Lounger driver's seat didn't even have heat OR vibrate! Silverspike mentioned he was looking forward to seeing the pics, and so am I!
On the way back home from W-Mart, saw the Trackmobile at our new ethanol plant tugging 5 covered hoppers to the NS main. Of course, I had thought about taking my camera, but got distracted and forgot it. Maybe next time.
Cox47- John Kelly, eh? I'll ask my in laws if they remember him. We have a state trooper based out of the Redkey Post named John Kelly, but he's a younger fellow. And one of the few ISP troops worth anything.
Paul B- Let us know how those metal cars are, I, too, always wondered how good they were. Probably hard to superdetail, but the ones I saw looked pretty good, and they have the weight to track well. You gonna try to repair the engine or just replace the motor with a new one? Keep us posted.
concretelackey- I saw where you sent me an off forum mail, but when I tried to open it, it wasn't there. I'm hoping it was saying that you had plenty of cherry cheesecake and you were going to ship a boxcar load my way!
OK, oh, BTW, I checked back in on the post I was whining about the other day,and JimRC was right, hurricane33 is getting some decent help from people who have actually had experience with that type of track. Now THAT'S the forum I'm proud to be a part of. We have a good group of people here, and I feel very lucky to be a member.
Gotta go, w**k rears it's ugly head.
Evenin', Chloe - just a cup of hot cocoa for me. Thanks, Garry!
back, LilRob - I was checking the Kalmbach book I have on detailing diesel locos, but I think it's the other one that has the GP-38 in it (that's the one at the in-town LHS). I'll check it this weekend and post/email you if it does have it in there. Good to hear that you have your Dremel - the MRR'er's key tool! Belated , too! Best wishes on the PC repair program - a good career field to go into, I would think.
Paul, careful what you wish for! Did I miss one of your posts, or did you get injured (so that you have the happy pills)? Hope you get rested up tonight.
PC, keep taking care of the Mrs. and let her know (as was said) we're keeping the coming for her healing and recovery.
Lee, looks like you had a frosty morning... We had some this morning, too, but I think it warmed up to the low 40's by this afternoon. Supposed to go down to freezing tonight, then tomorrow night it's only supposed to get down to 33, so maybe we're having a warming trend. No sign of Paul's heat wave of the 70's yet, though.
Time to shuffle off to bed for me. Oh yeah, got the older TV given away today. Still a while to go until I manage to get a digital TV for me.
Blessings and a good night's rest for all,
Hello and wow! I clicked in for some scrumtious goodies from Inch..... Thanks, Inch.
Jerry .... Sorry to learn of the loss of your neighbor.
PC ... I'm glad Mrs. PC is home. The heeling process from surgery sems to always take too long. We'll keep the prayers active.
We had dinner at the state resort park lodge with some friends. Christmas decor was beautiful (even if the policital correct folks make them leave out the word Christmas)
Colby asked about a track plan. I recall MR's "Turtle Creek Central" project that might work. I think that was a couple of years ago. The final plan should have some road switching work for the BL2. Perhaps, some of those red white and blue Maine Potato box cars from the 1950's would be good.
Those goodies from Inch are great. Yum!
happy Model Railroading
Hello all. Yup, I'm still around. With work and all, I find plenty of time to come here, but, don't really have much to say.
I haven't gotten any rr'ing done. I've been pondering a superdetailing job though. I have an undecorated Athearn bb GP38-2 and would like to superdetail it. I will need your guys help. I want to get all the parts before I begin. My favorite RR is the 'Santa Fe'. So, I'm gonna base it on one of theirs. Any suggestions for detail parts for these would be appreciated.
So, how have everyone been? I've been good, even gotten 1 year older ("33", Dec. 2nd). My job is going well. No major mistakes, and most there like me, including the managers, which is good. I've also started a new associate degree program. I'm now studying "PC Maintenance Technology", which I will use to become a PC repair technician. So, I've got alot going on.
I bought me a Dremel cordless (4.8V). And, a 150 piece accessory kit. I'll use it on the project mentioned above. Any comments on using one of these will be welcome.
Ok, guys. Guess I'll say bye for now. Will return soon...LOL....I've said that before.
Evening, I'll have a barley pop Cleo
Thought I'd drop off some, sugar, oatmeal with butterscotch chips and some chocolate cake cookies with candy morsels, along with some chocolate n peanut butter fudge. Mother's had lots of help between Leroy and 3 granddaughters on the cookies.
And some more candy, bottom left are chocolate hay stacks, next is chocolate with Andes crème de methe chips, divinity, chocolate covered cherries
We're still not done with it all yet.
Oh and no need to worry bouts my waist line, my weight runs between 150 and 160, and 32 waist pants. 30 years ago I weight bout 125 to 130 and wore 28 pants. Besides we give most all of it away.
On almost local news, Mattoon has been selected for a low emissions coal power plant. That should bring a lot of coal drag on the IN/CN tracks through there.
http://www.wthitv.com/Global/story.asp?S=7514439
PC,, good to hear your wife is doing ok and resting now. We'll keep ya'll in our thoughts still.
Hope all you others on sick call are feelin better too.
Evening Gang: Not much to say tonight. It's been a stresfull day. We finnally got the paperwork from AARP for the insurance. We faxed it to them so we should be allright. I'm on happy pills right now and ready for bed. Our sister in law came up and brought presents for us and the family in New Mexico. She also brought a Model Power all metal train set that has something wrong with it. I guess that they don't want to fix it so gave it to me. I'll see what I can do. I've been woundering what those Model Power trains were like.
Good Night All

I don;t recal if they would. The gears were an issue on all the Protos of that era. But the issue is 10 years or so old. And they may not have the proper gears now. I think there was a reason I went with the Athearn parts. besides the fact that it was faster, and cost as much as postage. your LHS should know the right part.
