Well, nap time is long over and dinner is soon.  Meds are doing their job and she's comfortable.  She thanks you all for the prayers and well wishes.

Hey Rob, that coffee looks good.  Any left in the bottom of the pot?  BTW, drinking coffee this late might be why you're up half the night?

 please & thank you!

***Philip, sending healing thoughts to the Mrs. Be sure to get some rest yourself along the way, too. Very glad to hear the surgery went well.

***Colby, I forgot to compliment you on that sharp looking BL2. Probably the nicest scheme I have seen on one, IMHO.

Had bad insomnia last night so come morning, I turned on the TV just in time to catch a show on Penn. - Long Island RR covering late steam (including a real cool 2-10-4 with a massive tender) to early deisel. One of the best series of old film clips I've seen.

Saw the sun rise over white pastures (deep frost), then about 40 vultures circling the farm midday, and a beautiful sunset this evening to cap things off. Cowboy [C):-)] Rob

Colby,

If in fact you have the cracked gear, Walthers (who own LL now) should ship replacements and probably under warranty. If you have the time, try that way though the Athearn gears work also.  J.R.

Happy birthday, modeltrainlover!

Down right cold here in SC, I thought it would be warm.  Woke up to 27F, what the heck??  I thought it would be flip-flop and shorts, LOL.  Oh well.  Hope everyone is doing well.  Looks like I have a bunch of reading to do when I get home thursday night.

and the BL2 is all wheel drive. here is what the box says.

" Powerful motor with 5 pole skew wound armature, dual fly wheels and bronze oil-less bearings and all wheel electrical pick-up and all wheel gear drive. Heavy diecast chassis for maximum traction and pulling power, universal coupler pockets"

BTW: check the gears on yours. Some of the Lifelike BL2's had a bad set of the gears going form motor to wheel. they can be replaced with Athearn gears for ~5 bucks. But if you notice your engine jerking like it;s going over a nonexistant rock and making a funny click, that;s why. Mine did.

yes I wounder why it was doing that. I thought it needed some lubing cause this is the first time it's been used scence I don't know. though I'm really worried that I might mess up directional headlight. that sits ontop of the motor.

Nope. Jsut turn the engine upside down in a foam cradle, or the packaging it came in. There's a couple of screws holding on a metal plate. Undo that. The gears will come out with little issue. Wheels and all. And there won't be any damage to the engine. Note that YOU may be caked in grease. And a decent lubing could be useful.

Hi Jeff,

Sorry to hear about your foot injuries. I broke a bone in my left foot back in June(while at work), and it is just now healing totally. I have been out of my walking cast since about a week ago, and doing home therapy on my foot.I still feel a bit of pain from where it broke, but the Doc says that will subside.I've been out of work since June.My former employer let me go over my injury, and I am suing him, since in the state of Indiana it is illegal to terminate an employee on a workmens comp injury.Plus he refused to file first report of injury with the state.I have had to hire legal help to handle the whole matter, and have lived off my savings since June, and have received no compensation since, and payed all of my own medical bills, so train purchases have been cut way back.

I know how you feel. I've been out of work since September of 2004 when my medical problems forced me into retirement. My parents paid my bills until I got my SSI and food stamps going. It's only a third of what I used to live on but it's way better than nothing. A fixed income is better than no income. I get some temporary employment at the Sheltered Workshop once in a while but it's just contract piece-work at minimum wage and usually doesn't last more than a few weeks. Sometimes nothing comes through for months.

Colby, have you checked in the Layout Planning and Design Forums (in the Model Railroader Forum, but not in the General Discussion forums/fora)?? There might be some possibilities in there for you (remember to check HO scale ones for 7' X 10' or so). Are you modeling in iNvisible or Horribly Oversized scale (I was thinking you were in iNvisible, right)?

Good afternoon. I was in Alexandria this morning. A friend and I took a load of two tons of paper to the recycling center there on a sixteen foot auto trailer. Pretty heavy load I know but it's had more than that on it. Try a Bobcat loader with two 55 gallon drums of diesel. Now that's a big load.

I took Mrs. C to the hospital this morning for surgery.  4am came early!  We just got back.  She is HUUUUUUURRRRRRRRTING!  Got her in bed on pain meds.  Looks like all went real well.  Think I'm going to nap in a chair or something for a while.

Later!

Just a quick stop by for now. Zoe, could I have a cup of the hot cocoa, and put those little marshmallows in it, too, please? Thank you!

Jerry, sorry to hear about your neighbor, but as you said, his struggle and/or pain is over now and he's feeling much better. Still not one of any of our favorite things, even when it's maybe time for that person.

Ryan, got your note - thanks! Looks like your weather is finally catching up with the Midwest's. Not sure if that'd be something to celebrate or not...Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Johnboy, hope you rid yourself of the queaziness thing that you've had, and get feeling better. Sounds like the Cantata was excellent and enjoyable for all. Smile [:)]

Time for me to get back to the paperw**k - the stack is actually getting where the end is visible!Yeah!! [yeah] Hope to have none left by Friday, when I go on 'Christmas vacation'.

Blessings and prayers for those in surgery, those ailing, and for a warm place out of the cold,

Confused [%-)]Confused [%-)]Confused [%-)]

Hello All,

Chloe , please bring me a Bromo.................

I don't know what is going on around here. Maybe we are catching something off this forum.       I was up most of the night, very upset stomach, lots of belching and beating a path to the latrine.   What is up here anyway.

I did come to work this morning but the belly still isn't right. Just dragging myself around.

Prayers and blessing to all in need. We sure seem to be doing lots of this lately.  Hopefully we will find that 2008 will be kinder to all.

Don't know how much I will get back on in the next week or so, but will try.  In the meantime I want to take this opportunity to wish each one of you and your loved ones a very Merry, Wonderous  Christmas (Politically correct in my book)  and a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.

Wouldn't it be great to all get together and have our own "Party" at the Diner. What a blast that would be.    (Toast and all)   hahaha..

Well I got all the snow moved and it looks like it should stay that way for a while  (I hope)

Our Christmas Cantata went really well and was well attended.  We had a young lady there from a reserve east of our city who was accompanied by her Father on the guitar and she sang the "Huron Carol"  first in Cree, then in French and finally in English. It was marvelous, everybody claimed they had goose bumps and there were many tears flowing.  What a beautiful voice and  haunting melody.  The two choirs did great and even the kids primary choir were right on. And no mistakes on my readings either.     Good Job----Well done.

Not much railroading getting done right now.  I always plan but seem to forget how much time is taken up at this time of the year.  But the "Wobbly" will wobble when it can.

Morning folks!

Cinnamon bun and some hot coffee please! Thanks Chloe! Dinner [dinner]

15° F this morning in the back yard temp gauge! Chilly, but temps should rise into the mid 40° F today.

Hope your foot heals soon Jeff.

Sounds like a great dinner you are going to Dick, and it reminds me of the La Posada Hotel in Winslow, AZ. The dining room windows face the BNSF Winslow yard lead tracks and at lunch a few years ago I counted about 20+ trains that passed by while we ate.

Sorry to hear about that fish Mark and hope that you are feeling better now.

Yea Sue, most of the earth is lumpy too, so a lumpy ground goop is only a smaller version of the prototype.

Phil, looking forward to seeing some of those pictures you are talking about.

John Der, nice update on the progress report! Okay, so I guess a transfer truck load will have to do for now!

I'll join in with the prayer offerings that Garry started and Jim added to as well. May the healing powers of the Holy Spirit be with you always!

Cheers,

Good Morning, Zoe - how about a glass of Ed's OJ, cup of coffee and a nice egg croissant, please?

Thanks!

Prayers (as Garry said last night) for PC's wife and the doctors, nurses, etc. on her surgery team today, as well as for all those ailing/recuperating/getting treatments/physically/emotionally healing. Angel [angel]Angel [angel]Angel [angel] And for comfort and chances to celebrate this season with your family and loved ones.

DerJohn, best wishes on the airbrushing going where it's supposed to, and not going anywhere else. You sure you're not also doing proxy MRR'ing work for Ed, too? Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] Good that your kids/grandkids are all grown enough to not need 'shields' around the layout.

Dick, it's always good to have a meal with friends (and if you get a side trip to the LHS, that's even better, right?). Wink [;)] Nice snowman, by the way. Thumbs Up [tup]

Got in my order at MRR club meeting last night, including some of the Frenchman River awnings. Have to keep that afternoon sun out of our store's customers and staff, right? Wink [;)]

Better get myself going this morning. I have an older (no remote - never had one) TV that I need to haul to work, so one of our case workers can take it by a client who can use it. Hopefully, the client's grown son will be there to help bring it in at her house.

Everyone take care of yourselves and watch the food, and finish up your special shopping (if you - like myself - haven't yet done that. Shock [:O] ). PC, when you get time after the surgery, let us know how your wife's doing.

Blessings and prayers,

Good Morning All,

I'll have a regular coffee and one of Bills' donuts please Zoe. A brisk 7F this morning with the predicted high in the mid thirties http://weather.aol.com/main.adp?location=USCT0046 . At least it is supposed to be mostly sunny today.

Lots to do today again with our Christmas shut down looming large so this will be another run through the diner morning.

Grayfox - good to see you back. Are you planning another trip to Tuckers as well this evening? Rumor has it we're to get a new road racing circuit in Palmer in the next few years so perhaps I'll soon have a good excuse to stop in there.

Der - I hadn't realized the Peco adaptors worked above the layout as well though it makes sense of the extra do-dads cast into the piece. Did you make your own linkage or is it available as well? That could solve my whole problem as the actual turnout is far enough in the corner that hiding a switch machine would be easy. Clever these Brits.

Well gotta run - lots to get done today but I'll try to pop back in at lunch time.  CUL, J.R.

Tracklayer, Sorry to hear about your fish encounter.
Hope your feeling better soon. As an ex-over-the -road truckdriver, I've had a few encounters with bad food!Waking up in a rest area or truckstop late at night, sick as all get out simply isn't a picnic!

Been there done that, have the t-shirt!

As for everyone else, I wish all a Merry Christmas and say a prayer for those wonderful men and women in uniform, a long way from home this Christmas protecting and defending our freedom.
Being a vet myself, I was once far from home at Christmas.

MERRY CHRISTMAS to ALL!

I do believe we could use a chapel car here. Many are in need of prayer.

We'll have Mrs. PC in our prayers because of surgery in the morning and continued M.D. issues.

And, of course, we're concerned and praying for Jeff, our favorite KCS fan, with his foot problems and continued health issues.

Jerry's Sallie makes her regular trips for dialasis.

Now, Tracklayer (glad you stopped by), has had a bout with toxins from fish. Sorry to learn about that.

We've not heard from Luc lately, but we pray his Gloria is OK.

Kevin just gave us an update on the adoption they have in progress, and he told us of a sad story of a young abused child.

I suspect it will be a tough Christmas for those who have lost their loved ones. Bobk's wife. Michaels son.

Actually, my wife is still dealing with grief, too, for losing her sister in September.

We've heard about marital problems that always hurt.

I'm sure I've left out some other needs.

There's a lot going on.

Blessings to all of you.

CapeJim:

I'm guessing you will be putting clear plexiglas barrier along the edges (especially in that loading dock area), yes? I could easily see little hands wanting to 'play with the trucks'...
...nope, I'll risk it, seeing as how I know pretty much who will be "playing" with the layout, and the grandkids are just about all teens now. Big Smile [:D]

Jerry:

DerJohn.....Wow that Food Distribution facilty is large....That should make a lot of loads for your railroad....
...I need the height to hide the middle level of the layout at that point (see photo later).  I figure that it's the head office, and the upper levels will be office, while the lower one is warehouse / distribution centre.  Or, since the silos are right next door, it could be a decent sized integrated milling and bakery operation.  I worked in England for a chain of bakeries owned by a milling company.  (They didn't have integrated plants, but it would make sense of several floors of office space.  All those buildings are just card mock-ups for now...(and Flash, sharp eyes on the towel rolls for the silos.)  maybe next year will see some morphing into styrene.  I'll probably close off the loading doors.  Too much dust gets laid down inside the open ones, besides, there's less need of interior detail that way! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Johnboy: Loved the Leroy song! Thanks.

Chip:  Can't help with the router thing, but maybe Ryan will see your post and give his My 2 cents [2c]

Ryan:

When can we expect some food shipments to the diner?
...as soon as the roads are cleared.  Since it's a modern era layout, there's a whole bunch of stuff that goes by road. Thumbs Down [tdn]  Thanks for the kind words, I'm feeling much better about he whole thing than I was at the end of the summer.

Jeff:  That's surprising news about your foot; and just when the infection thing is healing up so well too.

JR:  Nearly all my Pecos with machines are under the layout, clipped directly to the turnout.  The little adaptor plates you describe I use only for surface mounts, in situations like your beam-in-the-way, and where I can hide the machine in scenery of some kind (buildings in my case now.  This one's inside a hut behind the aforementioned silos.

I'm about ready to airbrush the track on the upper level yard. It hasn't looked this bare in years!

...in the background, Jerry, is the middle and upper level split that the tall buildings are designed to hide.  The rest of the city visually reduces those two loops on the upper level, (The inner one is the yard lead) to just that lead, while the mainline runs inside a row of apartment buildings and some office towers.

Got to get to bed.  No time to gussy this up with gifs. God Bless all, and prayers for healing comfort and peace for everyone needing them.Angel [angel]

Good Evening All,

Just passing through for some coffee and then back out the door. W..king on switch machines and a couple of the museums Lionel 4-4-2's that had shed wheels or otherwise wouldn't run. One had a badly cracked case and ovaled gear bores so it's history and had the mechanism swapped out for one that should be ok. The other got loctite to hold the errant wheel inplace and we'll test tomorrow night.

Sue - We start at Moroso in Fla. in late Feb then off to Sebring and then Savannah. I still need to get another trailer and it looks like I'm short a driver and truck as well. Never ends. CUL, J.R.

   Hi guys, no soapbox tonight.

GMT, Heartland and Silverspike- You guys are right, tolerance is in short supply these days, and 'Model Railroading Is Fun' should be printed in large glow in the dark letters where each of us can see it every time we work on a project!

Cox47- We don't hear too often of ANYONE knowing about Redkey. Good to know folks in the Illini State have heard of us!

concretelackey- Lets get a booth and we can split a whole cherry covered cheesecake, we might even have some left over if anyone else wants to join in! That is-might.

Tomorrow, I'm going to pick up some pictures I dropped off at WallyWorld last week, hopefully there will be a disc included (I checked the box!) and I will be able to upload them to photobucket and join all the rest of you who share pics with us. There should be shots of the new KCS engines, and maybe a few other RR related items. I've been meaning to get these developed for about 8 months, so I really don't have a clue as to what is on them! We will see how this works out.

JeffreyW-Sounds like you need to armour up those feet, they sure are taking a beating! You take it easy for awhile! (Easy advice to give, but I know it's extremely hard to take.)

Hope all are warm and dry,

Good evening diners! Whether or not I'm at the top of the page, the coffee is on me or whatever beverage tickles your fancy. Be sure to have some apple pie to go with it.

I have to say that as someone relatively new in the hobby I agree with Philnrunt's comments. I put in a post on the topic as I do have experience with a couple of brands of sectional track with roadbed and in my opinion Kato Unitrack is great. Like almost everything there are compromises but you just have to decide what ones are acceptable to you.

I am happy to report that the weather here has improved to a virtual heat wave of, are you ready for it..... -7C!!! That blizzard I mentioned last week turned out to claim the life of my good friend's brother who was killed just 60 miles west of the city in a single vehicle roll-over so I'm glad not to be talking of snow for a while.

Sorry to hear about your foot Jeff, hope it heals up soon. Rather than kicking things that don't work, I can highly recommend a hammer or similar tool as it is a lot easier on body parts especially yours.  A fellow I know well used a large wrench to assist in starting his outboard motor. I saw him do it many times and it never failed. Remember if it doesn't work get a larger hammer. The foregoing advice is limited strictly to mechanical or electrical problems( don't want to get sued for inciting bodily injuries).

I ate fish tonight so I hope I don't get the same reaction that Tracklayer did. The fish came from Scotland so I imagine that Scotch would be the recommended antidote. Think I'll take some preventative medicine. Can't hurt and I'll sleep well.

Well hope everyone's Christmas preparations are going well,

Good night from me, CNCharlie

I should have stopped in this morning for coffee and one of Jim's chocolate donuts.

JR,  One of our logging books has some photos of steep inclines the the Pacific Northwest.  Very impressive what they accomplished.  Do you start racing again in January?

Ryan,  Glad you liked the recipe.  It is somewhat lumpy, but it gives some interest to the lay of the land.

I should go wrap some packages.

Hey gang. Hope everyone's doing well.

We'll call today's entry - Don't eat the fish!...

Last Tuesday night while at work, I ate some baked fish for dinner. Later while on the way home I noticed I was a little dizzy but didn't think anything of it and just figured I was tired, so I went home, ate a snack and went to bed. I was awakened half way into the night sicker than I've ever been before with the flu, bad reactions to medications or anything else... I was on fire from my waste up, was having muscle spasms in my back and sides and pains in my internal organs. All I could do was pace the floor and wipe my face with a wet wash cloth. It was terrible. I went to my regular doctor but he couldn't figure out what it was and tried treating me for a stomach disorder, so I finally ended up going to the emergency room and they prescribed 25mg of Benadryl every eight hours until it passed. They said that fish sometimes eat toxic plants and the toxins are absorbed into their flesh. Then we humans come along and eat the fish and get what I got or worse... Oh well. Live and learn. So far a $5.00 fish dinner has cost me three days of work and over $1,500.00 of next years train budget.

Everyone take care. See you down the line.

Thanks to all for the happy birthday wishes.

and the BL2 is all wheel drive. here is what the box says.

Mine did.
