Good evening,
Thank you egmurphy for the formal invitation. It is appreciated. It is never my intention to offend anybody and would like to apologize to anybody that has taken offense to my screen name or anything that has been posted.
The current layout is under construction. It is to be a model of the Canadian Pacific from 1995 to 2000. The layout is a shelf type layout that is around the wall above the door jam height. Space is at a premium and there seems to be a lot of it available at that height.
It is a pleasure being on this forum and being able to learn so much from such great experts in such diverse topics.
I wish everybody a good night.
Frank

Evening Gang: Baby Lara is still doing fine. I saw Tony today. He's better then last night when they brought him into the hospital. The prognoisious is still not good. He has a great deal of trouble talking and is hard to understand. I whish that things could be better but that's life.
I guess I'm really not in such a good mood tonight. I don't want to see my friend go and now NJBob and Frank. Cheeze guys.
Good Night All
Good Evening Diners:
Terry:
Frank / da_Kraut ...reminds me of a restaurant in Edmonton "The Happy Honky" The city fathers made the Ukrainian owner change the name, since it wasn't politically correct. This despite the fact that he, the Ukrainian, had named it as a joke aimed at himself! Go figure.
FoulRift:
Der-Can I have my reaper back please?
Not much mrr today as it was all taken up in fixing our daughter's bathroom fan. Glad that's over. Fault was in the unit. No spacers installed at the factory , so fan was too low and pressing on casing. Fixed with a couple of washers. (I didn't come up with that, as all this was discovered and done during the week by the couple who rent the basement. ) However, I still had to finish the wiring properly, bringing it somewhere near code! Glad it's done now.
While in civilization, I got some Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish for the GLEAM final stage. I figure that those sanding stick sandpaper strips turned inside out will do fine as applicators. They are cloth backed, and should do pretty well as the cork roadbed does. (I haven't any of that, as this layout is AMI)
Resumé time: (and Ed's appreciation of those who have posted so far.)
Born in England at the very end of the first year of WWII. Raised in the south of England, where I met and married Kris (1965, but took 4 years to get around to that!) Trained as a Food Technologist, and worked in the north and northeast. Emigrated to Canada in 1967, Toronto. Ontario. Daughter born 1968. Stuck the big city for 3 years, and left it and the food industry for rural life and a Landscaping business. Complete change of plans followed, training for ordination and pastoral ministry. Pastored in Ontario, B.C., Alberta until health / stress caused earlier-than-planned retirement in 1997. Came to Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia in 1998, love it.
That's bio, now the trains:
1st. set was a present to my elder brother when I was six. Hornby OO clockwork. (steam of course, and we used the track more as point to point than a loop, as I recall)
At High School (there's not really a North American equivalent, but let's call it that.) a teacher was into scratch building steam OO locos, and hand-laying brass track in a large Hobby Hut (old wartime Nissan Hut) on the campus. Got heavily infected with the MRR virus there.
All that lay dormant until our daughter asked for a train set one Christmas. Her wish was granted (Surprise!), but I unfortunately stole it in setting up the 4x8 HO layout by making it too complicated with switches both track and electrical.. Fine for me, not so fine for her.
First major layout in B.C. based on the BCR in HO, about 14' x10'. ( A mountain theme) Next was the Athabasca and Western (a Prairie and Foothills theme), a freelance HO in two rooms of a basement designed for it in a house we built mainly because Kris got a terrific job.
Latest is in N scale. Change due to limited space here in our Nova Scotia home, where one guest bedroom is Kris' office (She writes, does crafts, etc.) and the other is my train room and office. The Maritime Trunk ("Service is an MT promise".) is a fictional modern road that leases its equipment and over which CN has trackage rights. It's meant to catch the flavour of East Coast Canada railroads.
That's it for now, I'm off to try that polish.
all, and God Bless. Prayers for all in need of healing, comfort and peace.

Lee-sorry but have to put deal on back burner.
To all in the diner-thanks for the good times and good remarks on my pics but if Frank/da_kraut is staying then I'm leaving. Not only the diner but the forum as a whole. I don't need his attitude or CRAP!!
Not one person objected to my reaper as a logo or signature except him but that's tough. It's mine not his. It's my own brand of humor and if he doen't like it-"STICK IT"
Sorry it has to be this way,but that's me.Thanks again NJ Bob
Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,
Another beautiful day down here in Paradise. Cold front blew in this morning and it's sweater time. Okay, so it's a cool front, not cold. I'm still happy.
Terry: Yup. it's my b-day. Even received my official greeting from AARP. Maybe I'll use the card to spread PL300 for roadbed!
Lee - 25 pounds of ballast? Wow, that's some ballasting job you have ahead of you. I think it will take around a half pound to ballast my layout, if I apply it liberally.
Frank / da_Kraut - Welcome to the Coffee Shop / Diner. Sorry that your first post here had to be under such unfortunate circumstances. We normally try to maintain things pretty civil here. But now that you've broken the ice and dropped in, why not tell us something about your layout and drop back in on a regular basis.
While we're waiting for Dick to get his railfan photos uploaded to a hosting site, here's just one sample of what's in store. This is one of his shots that I uploaded to my album in Rail Images. This one was selected as one of the "Railfan images of the week" on TrainBoard. Great photo by Dick.
Think that's about from down here this evening.
I'll catch up with all of you tomorrow.
Ed
Good evening, All. If Ryan is buying and preparing, I will be the first to get my order in.
Today has been rainy, so after a trip to town for groceries, I did the ground goup in the river bottom. When that dries, I will do touch up on the river bank. My next project will be to paint the cowboys at the stock pen. Details. Details.
Happy Birthday, Terry.

Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.
Evening, I'll just have coffee for now Cleo, Mother fixed me some fried catfish n tater tots for supper n I'm still full
JOHNBOY, I see JIM beat to the answer and he's right.
NJ BOB,, I remember those winter camps many years ago and really enjoyed them. Today I like staying in where it's warm.
LEE, you made a pretty good haul for $41.. The show prices here have been kinda high the last couple years.
JERRY,, found out the show in Mattoon is Feb 16-17. I'm hoping to have some money put back so we can go.
JIM CG, just kidding [wondered if anyone would notice] I just wish that was the real forecast. We had light snow over night and when I got up at 4, it was +5, at 6 it was +2 with a NNW wind under clear skies. It did get up to 12 this afternoon and the wind had laid some. Low for tomorrow morning is suppose to be -4, and a wind chill -20. We'll have the faucets dripping tonight.

The snow didn't last long...all gone except on the forest hill behind our house.
Came across the right size screws I needed to reinforce my little train table. Will glue and screw the bracing later tonight.
Rob ps: a superb Military tribute (speakers on): http://www.iwo.com/heroes.htm
to our birthday boy! that was a fine cake they made for you! So this is your 20th anniversary of your 30th birthday right?
Terry, No I said the sales men, bible readers and JW's would throw milk bones to her so they could ring the door bell, not eat them, LOL.
FoulRift, I'm HO scale and a swap would be cool. If you look through my www button on the bottom of my post and look at my RIP track, that's the stuff up for swap. The Amtrak passenger cars I have are the commuter version, with interior lights (track powered) I have three 10" passenger cars and one baggage car. Why don't I run them? Well I have 2 full sets of B&O capitol limited heavy weight sets, 1 set of NYC heavy weights, and another heavy weight set that I'll be lettering for the L.S.&W. Send me a normal email address and I'll send you the pictures, my email is just below my name.

Afternoon, Zoe - you traded shifts with Janie, huh? Oh, yeah - since Ryan's buying , I'll have the Oysters in Cream Stew, and the Pullman Double Chops Hot Plate, plus a cup of coffee. Heck, get me another hot plate for warming my hand, please... That wind's got some bite to it today - the good thing is, the sun's out. Bad news is, it's going down now. Hate to see how cold it'll be after the dinner party that I'm going to tonight (at my buddy Mark's place). Brrrr!!
Uh, Dick, you should try to stop by the Diner more often. Looks like the newer Diners think you're a newbie here.
NJ Bob, actually, I'm pretty sure Dick was in the Coffee Shop (back before versions 1 & 2 of ETD) before I started coming by. Easy mistake to make, though.
Johnboy, ANG is an abbreviation down SOTB (the Northern one, that is) for Air National Guard (sort of similar to Air Force Reserve). They have an ANG unit at the St. Louis airport north of me (couple/three hours drive by car). When I was in Air Explorers (which is like Boy Scouts with specialties, for guys a little older than maximum Boy Scout age), we met in their building there one evening a week - even met in the pilots' briefing room, and once got to go up the stairs to the control tower for the airport. As you can guess, this was many, many moons ago... At that time, they were flying F-100 Super Sabre jets, though I think now they have F-15 Eagles.
Went by the LHS today and picked up an SP AAR triple hopper (Accurail kit), and at Hobby Lobby I picked up the WS Landscaping Details kit (coupon for 25 percent off), and a 1950-something black Cadillac convertible. (And no, I'm not going to paint it pink!)
Got to get going on my hot plate - and leave room for the dinner at Mark's. He's having baked catfish, and each of us is bringing a side dish. I'm taking a French cheescake with fruit topping (looks like either cherries or strawberries and icing or whipped cream on top).
Blessings and a warm place for your night (and your dogs'),
Jim in Cape Girardeau
HI,
While reading the responses in the Diner I ran across this:
"Before I went to work today I just happened to poke my nose in the other room and there are two wack jobs there with the screen names of Rommel and da_kraut.Personally I find those names offensive and happen to mention it to one of our pt moderators and the response I got was a sudo history lesson and not much else."
I really do not appreciate being called a WACK JOB just because of my screen name. My backgound is german and sometimes I have been called ***. It is a nickname used here in this part of the country at times. It is not offensive for me in any sense nor should it be for anybody else. Lets not forget that your own signature has "Follow the reaper" with a picture of the reaper itself. So is this a case of the kettle calling the pot black??
PS I also do not plan on going away any time soon.

Welcome to the diner Dick. It's nice to see a new face.
Well, got to run.Almost time to leave work and go home.See you all later.NJ Bob
We have been busy shoveling out from one snowstorm after another, I got so tired of pulling the starter rope on the snowblower, that installed the electric start. Now if I can get the robo unit to work, all I will need to do is remote start it from the house, remote open the door, and guide the snowblower around from the comfort of the house using the RF controller and my new heavy duty decoder installed on the snowblower....WHAT ..WHAT...???? You guys haven't heard of DCC for snowblowers yet????
FERGIE: A belated Happy Birthday to you lad , 46 is it? and the photos of your layout with orange cabooses look great Fergie, nice job. Four more years and you make the 1st level OF's club.
To all the newcomers to the Diner, have a hot cider on me.
SOUTHERNERS: 2" of snow in Atlanta? Snow in Louisianna?? Alabama?? Do you guys need any shovels? I hear that DUKE is offering courses on "driving in snow", is that correct Duke ?
I have some photos of the railfan trip to NH two weeks ago, in fact some of you guys have them already in reg email. I have loaded on PC, just need to upload to Webshots and get them into the Diner. Really great time in the deep snow on the mountains with the 0-6-0 Canadian National switcher.
Time to run, see you guys later,
Foulrift, if it's not pre 1959 it's gotta go. I'm hanging onto some of the cars from when I was a kid for display, but the LS&W layout is steam and limited first generation diesel; that means the AMTRAK needs to go. I'll get you a picture of the passenger cars.
Just got home from the Valley Forge high School Train Show:
Dorothy gave me $40 if I let her stay at home (she does go to the large train shows with me, but passes on the little shows); I wound up spending $41 on: 5 ore cars (UP, Chicago & Northwestern, (3) LS&I), 20 pounds of light gray ballast, 5 pounds black ballast, and a field stone church with stained glass windows.
That puts me at 25 ore cars. The ballast is the recycled rubber ground to #1 limestone size for about $1.25/pound.
Afternoon everyone. How is everyone?
Ryan-the menu looks really good today but I can't make up my mind between the lamb chop orr the fish so I think I'll just have them both and a diet coke.
I was reading an old issue of MR (April 1992) and in the letters section it was mentioned by the person writing to MR that they saw Rod Stewart in a hobby shop in Fla.buying,wood,paintbrushes,plastic,etc.The person went on to say that when asked,Rod Stewart confessed to being into trains.Even back then people didn't know.
The chops and fish were great.I'll see you all later-NJ Bob
afternoon all,

Good Morning Crew,
Zoe, I am hungry, How about that railroaders special, and to heck with the colesteral. Scrambled eggs on rye with a double order of bacon, an order of pan fries with chili sauce and a large OJ from Ed. That should do until noon, I think... Well, maybe a hot chocolate as well.
We are 24 degrees warmer than we were yesterday at this time. Today it is only -17c. So just so you southern boys know, there is help on the way. My son who lives in Grande Prairie Alberta, about 760 miles northwest of here said it was only -08 last evening and it usually takes about 36 hours for his weather to reach us.
NJBob, I remember some of that winter camping stuff. Can't say that I ever enjoyed it much.Just something that had to be done for a badge or award but not sure it was worth it.In regard to those others that you spoke of, just don't give them any traction by replying. They will then either change their ways or disappear Just listen to the others here.
I hope you fellows with the animals are giving them extra rations in this weather, It sure can be tough on them too. Hope the heated water bowls are all working.
PC. Hope your wife is doing well. That running for dialisis is so necessary but would get to be such a drag I would bet.
Terry. Many congratulations young fella, I wish I could go back to being 50 again or how about 30 knowing what I know now. Might give me the time I need to get this layout finished.
JR. I envy you, You seem to have more fun than what should be legally allowed.
Paul, Sorry to hear of your friends trial. That darn cancer, surely after all these years they could have come up with a better faster more positive cure. Hope you are able to lift his spirits and leave him with a more positive outlook on what he is facing. (Tough Job).
Cape Jim. Hope that new car has antifreeze in it and equipped with a block heater.
Inch. Pardon my ignorance but What is ANG.
Cox. Love your diner. That is pretty novel idea. It reminds me of a bunch of Dentists in Spokane Wa. that have transformed an E-8 (I believe) into their dentist clinic. They even have it up on tracks.. It always amazes me how big those puppys are. Until you are up against them you kind of forget how immence they really are.. I think theirs is a "Spokane Portland and Seattle unit or maybe Spokane International. One or the other.
And to the Thomas the Tank Kitbasher, (sorry I can't remember your handle) Anyway, I just want you to know that I am impressed with your energy and determination. I think you as well have "railroaditis". So learn to live with it and enjoy the journey. Any skills you improve upon now will serve you well as you progress in the hobby. With what we see now, we will expect great things out of you in the future.. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.
Well I'm back to work until Tuesday. But it is really slow here right now. But thats OK. Lets me get on here with you guys and gals.
Hey Girls, is there any dessert left or has Paul and Rob eaten it all. I know it wouldn't be Jeff....... Well come to think about it , he might be selling it on the side and using the money for his run at the Vice-Pesidentcy or to buy more paint spray cans.
Prayers and Blessings for those in need.

Tis' snowing away here. Just starting to stick a bit. Temps will drop into the teens tonight. Off to do critter rounds. Have a good day all. Rob
Morning everyone. It's rather cold here also.Only supposed to be in the 30's.But the good news-no snow or rain.Have the whole house to myself this weekend. The wife is at her mothers and my son is camping with the boy scouts.
I can't believe I'm at work doing this-but the thruth is this will help keep me awake.
Terry-sorry no grain hoppers.I never asked-are you modelling HO?
Inch-thanks for the compliment-I used XTrakCad to design it and after the plan was done I ran a train on it and I think it will be fun especially now that I was able to increase the length by a foot. That will help.
Lee-with all that passenger equipment, why don't you just run it on your layout? What scale do you run? What do you wnat for one passenger car?
Well I've got to go and do something that resembles work so I'll catch up with you all later-NJ Bob
PAUL,, sorry to hear of your friend. We'll keep him and his in our thoughts.
JERRY,, the diner looks great.
NJ BOB, neat switching plan, looks like fun.
A HAPPY BURTHEN DAY for TERRY, hope ya has a good one.
Enjoyed reading everybody's history and guess it's my turn. Grew up old fashion 9 mile NE of where we live now, on a farm right outside a little backwards town that [20 people maybe] still had hand crank phones, outhouses, a general store and a blacksmith shop, that set above Mill creek. It was still wild country out there back then with few people and lots of game n such, till they put in a big lake. Spent 3 yr in the AF, also did 3 yr in the ANG. Other than some of New England I've seen all the states and 3 countries over the years. I've been in or around farming most my life, other than some time doing carpentry, bodywork and a short time doing security work. Now I'm drawing disability because of arthritis and other stupidities of youth.
Mother [Deb] grew up east of Marshall; her dad was a carpenter and a part time farmer.
Deb's done of bout everything from waiting tables, working for a chemical company and a manager for a convenience store, till she got on with a company [she's with still after 16 yr] [Charles industries] that builds circuit boards for telephone and telephone companies, starting in production and going up to shipping manager. When things started looking bad [cutbacks] there she transferred to a division of the same company, that makes marine battery chargers and has worked her way up to service manager and asst. personal manager and does some of the accounting [finally using her accounting degree] and sales. They've tried to talk her into transferring to the main office by Chicago, but us n city life don't get along well.
Me n Deb met in 1970 on a double date with our future ex's. We've been together 28 yr now and between us we have 6 kids [3 hers, 3 mine] and 23 grandkids. Some of them live close, so we get to see them a lot, almost too much at times.
Wasn't any trains close to me as a kid, but we use to listen to the Pennsy whistle crossing Mill creek on summer nights 3 mile or so south, and spent a lot of time with cousins that lived along the NYC's Cairo line. Got my first HO train bout 8 [ I still have n use some of it], but never had a layout till bout 25 year ago, then it was off n on. We moved here almost 10 year ago and I've had one ever since.
I'm modeling an HO 7'x 8' layout of a fictional [1955-60] short line, the YSL [yard sale lines]. It's a connecting and interchange line between PRR, NYC, Milwaukee and what ever I decide to run that day. I'll be able to run 2 mains and a small fiddle yard at the same time with 2 operators, plus it'll have off track staging in the future.
Morning, everybody! Zoe, just a coffee to go for now, please. Thanks!
Well, here in balmy Southeast Missouri-land it's a whopping 15 F this morning (-9 C for our Canadian brothers, including Johnboy, who so kindly lent us his Alberta clippers....), but the wind chill is down at -2 F (-19 C - sheesh!!). Johnboy, mercy! Send that weather to Japan or somewhere west, please!
I think we should all load up in some (insulated) freight cars and head to Ed's place SOTB for a while - at least until this cold snap finishes up. Janie, can you post a signup sheet for those who want to go? Thanks.
Inch, good to hear that you've been getting some MRR'ing in, but sorry to hear about your kids' news. Will include them in my prayers.
Really interesting hearing all the bio's from each of you. We are an assorted bunch, huh? Lots of variety in here.
And it looks like Janie and the chef have been busy this morning for the 'Birthday Boy':
Happy Birthday, Terry!
Gotta bundle up (a bunch) and go do laundry, so I'll see ya later today.
Blessings and a warm place for you,
