Morning all-I'll have a bowl of soup, the blue plate special and a coke. Thanks. I'll be over at the corner table.
Now that the newness of my coming to the diner and sharing my pics with all of you has worn off I would now like to be treated like a regular diner if you know what I mean. This is a great place and you are a great bunch of guys and aside fron the pics and tips I shared with all of you I feel a little lost in here. I still feel new and really don't know you that well yet so I find it hard to join it. Would someone pointme in the right direction?Hopefully not the front door.
Have a nice day and I hope to see you all later.NJ Bob
Well, we got about an inch of snow last night. Looks like we might get a touch more throughout the day. Then there's snow in the forecast almost every day for the next 5 days.
Morning everyone!
Got a big day today! Gotta see if my pretty little wife can put big bad Uncle Sam in his place. Seems like a no brainer, but then we're dealing with the government here, so who knows.
I thought it was interesting that today was selected for all of this (not by us at all, but by the court system). Let me let you in on some inside information as to why I think it's an interesting date. You see, January 17th was the day I was saved. It's the day I accepted "the awesome guy who died on a Roman cross that we aren't supposed to talk about" into my life. Now I don't have any idea if it means anything or not that this day thats special to me was selected as court day, but it's interesting.
Anyways, thank you to everyone who's been praying for us. We appeciate it greatly. I hope and pray all goes our ay today. I've cleared my calender for the day so we can really devote our time to this.
I've got to run for now, but I'll try and stop by later with news.
Bye!

Got called out around 1 this morning (primary on-call was busy at a jail with a commitment, so he called me to cover one at the ER), but got back to bed around 2:20 a.m. I'm the backup on-call this week through Friday night (which so far until this a.m. hadn't involved being called out). So when I get by this afternoon to the Diner, I may be snoozing in one of the booths, just let me sleep if I am...
Paul, good that you got your tractor wheels on a more stable base now for chores. Sorry to hear about Dianne.
Had some mixed precip. last night/this morning. No accumulation around here, though. Temp now is 34 F (1 C) and a wind chill of 27 F (-3 C).Only supposed to warm up to 41 F (25 C) today, and another cold front after this. Uh, Johnboy, you can stop sending us your weather - really, we're okay without all that icey air!
Zoe, if I doze off with my nose in my coffee, please wake me up. Thanks!
What? I hit the TOP? Oh, well, keep me a running tab, Zoe, and when I wake up I'll cover it. But no train purchases - watch Philnrunt extra close, too. Okay, Diners - breakfast is on me!

Morning folks!
Wintry mix here in the Piedmont this morning, most schools are closed or have a 2 hour delay starting up this morning. The predicted ice and snow has turned into a nice rain fall with temps around 35° F. Traffic was light today so that was a nice thing.
Hey Terry, nice pics and thanks for picking up the tab, I'll try to keep the specials menu reasonable today...
CNCharlie, the diner menus that I am sharing in the Diner are inspired from actual recipes that come from the actual railroads mentioned, and were real menu items served in their respective dining cars from the bygone era of fancy culinary service. The main resources come from the two railroad cookbooks "Dining by Rail" and "Dinner in the Diner", both provide good historical accounts of the dining car tradition and recipes too! Speaking of the diner menu.....

The (stupid )dogs were up most the night. I found out why at 3:30am: there's a BIG fat porcupine nestled up against the patio door on my porch! How he got up the stairs is a mystery !I've named him"Pete".Oh,the joys of Nature up in the northwoods!!
ED: that's my 115# lab,Tahoe. He can sweep a table clean with his tail and his head's the size of a basketball. The other dog is a Border collie(both rescue dogs)She's always trying to herd the lab.
FLASHWAVE: there is a grade, but the bulge you see to the left, the farmers elevator ,is actually the end of the first of three penninsulas. the "bays" look like this:Your back is to the yard at Spooner.
PHIL: let me know what I owe, I'll have the CFO take it out of petty cash(HA!!RIGHT!!)
Hope things go well for all today!

Good Morning All,
A chilly 16F this morning and feels it. High predicted in the mid thirties but no precip for the next couple of days. I'll have the regular to go but I'll sneak one of Bills' donuts on the way.
Got our frames in for the museum sheds yesterday out of Ala. military surplus. They are pin together aluminum frames 20 x 48 and 16 high at the peak. Of course the crates came apart in the truck on the way here so we have a mess (sorry Fergie) on the museum loading dock to pick up now as well. Just hope it's all still there.
Interesting program last night at the museum with Peter Mc Lughlin showing slides of his working days on the Maybrook line of the New Haven. Long freights with 4 RS3 Alco lashups, FA's FM16-44's and some of foreign leased power circa 59. How about B & M E series in both the maroon and yellow and blue and white scemes, Erie E's and PRR Baldwin A/B sharks all on the New Haven hauling freight. Might be an excuse to expand the fleet?
Hope PC's hearing goes ok today and the blood clot is dealt with successfully and the rest of you have a sparkling day. See Ya, J.R.
Good Morning from Tipton IN !

Hello to all. An extra large bowl of chili and a bottle of Tobasco, please. That makes it easy on the top-of-the-pager, which is good because.......
saronnaterry- OK, I don't know how to say this, but....you see, your sorta new here, and what no one told you is that when the Diner hit's the Century mark, well, the person at the top of THAT page has to pick up not only lunch, but all model railroading purchases made by everyone in the Diner that day!
BTW, thats a great looking town, the buildings look mighty fine painted like they are. Good job! And the yard looks plenty busy! (With all that business, you probably won't even miss the cash!)
jeffreyw- Thanks for explaining your air mail decals, I was going to ask you about that once before, but forgot to. They look great!
pcarrell- Keep us posted on how the hearing goes, I also heard what the other's said about how long it takes. I just read yesterday about a volunteer fireman who died in the collapse of the World Trade Centers and who the good ol' Federal Government denied the $250,000 Emergency Workers Death Benefit to his family because he hadn't worked at the firehouse since '99. The fact that he was providing medical help to the victims made no difference, and, even though the article (Yahoo News) didn't say it, I'm sure the Feds spent a whole lot more than 250G fighting it in court. They gave up yesterday, and paid his survivors, but why people have to go through so much to get what THEY contributed still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. This country spends (IIRC) a billion bucks every 8 hours, but try to get a $300 monthly benefit from them, huh? Best of luck.
Now that I'm down from the soapbox, got some pictures of an NS SD60 pulling a local today, hw was running long hood forward, but the twin beam lights weren't working. Good thing his ditchlights were. Sure do like the increased traffic through town. I expect my FIL and I are the only ones that do!
Our department is old, and not well insulated, and when it gets as cold as it is now-12- this place is downright frosty. Sure am glad I'm not out in it anymore, even on a warm night after the adrenaline rush of a call, you would get chills. Tonight, it would kill me!
You guys take care, and stay warm.
A large mug of Hot Cocoa, please & thanks.
***Paul, have fun with the new wider tire set. Sorry to hear about Dianne's possible leg clot.
***RT, perhaps that's our snow & sleet making it's way up to you? After only an inch of snow, it turned to sleet and has been doing so ever since. I was hoping for enough snow to make a "Snow-Loco" out of by morning, but it does not look likely. Oh well, have enough chores to do anyway.
Rob
evening all its been snowing and sleeting here off and on for about an hour glad I don't work tomorrow .
not to much happening hey chole I'll have one of eds OJs thanks.
Talk to you all later

Good evening everyone,
OK, I think it's time Ryan stopped teasing us with those menus and therefore I vote that he become the permanent chef in the diner. I don't want to eat anywhere else especially with those prices and the interesting railroad theme with every dish.
It's turning very cold here with -30C in the forecast for tonight so with the windchill I expect it will be close to -40. Now that I have a cold, I don't really care as I plan on staying indoors.
I am placing an order for one of those CN cabooses like Fergie has and I told my wife it is all his fault for posting those pictures. Great looking loco too! Don't think I'll push my luck for one of those though.
Hope it goes well in court for you PC.
Well I have no energy even for running trains, so I'm going to just veg out in front of the telie and watch the Barrett Jackson auctions. Now that's mindless entertainment.

Paul, rumor control central suspects large block of ice wedged between the pier and the hull as the freighter was backing in is the cause. I understand that ship backs into that pier all the time, so it's not like the master was unfamiliar with the pier or the procedures. There has been several elisions' [sp] (when you hit another vessel it's a collision, when you hit a dock or pier or moored vessel it's an elision) this year causing the older vessels to have free communication with the sea (darn big hole). Saving grace for the engine room will be the lack of salt in the water, if this had happened in salt water the cost might include new engines, boilers, and aux equipment.
Terry, looks like you have made great progress on the layout, thanks for sharing.
Phillip, Good luck, you defiantly have our prayers to back you up. I'm still waiting for Child support to pay me my $245.00 they owed me since 01OCT07! Here's a good one for you; The ex was getting SSI for my children (both born deaf) it really helped out with the medical bills and therapy they needed, then one year I got a pay raise and we didn't qualify for the benefits the kids were receiving for the previous 3 years, but SSI took us to court wanting the last 3 years payments back because now we didn't qualify. Even though we did qualify while we were getting the SSI. Go figure!

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,
Another beautiful, if overcast and cool (thank God), day down here in Paradise. Weather guessers are all over the map in predictions for the next few days. Whatever happens will be fine with me.
It may have been cloudy outside, but it was definitely lazy inside. Managed to get a nap in this afternoon, which had been missing in the past couple of days. I'm just glad that no one from the AARP (American Association of old Retired Pfarts) came by checking. I'd hate to lose my card.
derJohn - Geez, I've never seen a desk look that clean. Except for the first day that they delivered mine, that is. Since then I haven't seen the horizontal surface of the wood.
When you say "dust that is generated from the logs", are you talking about the fallout at the bottom of the woodpile? We have a ton of that, maybe I need to take a closer look.
Terry - nice overall shot of the layout. Fran did a double take when I showed her the photo, but she was looking at your dog. Hard to tell from the photo but he looks a lot like our (fairly) new puppy.
Not much more to add this evening. I'll check back later.
Hasta luego,
Ed
in a SNOWY SOUTHERN mug, please & thank you!
***Philip, crossing fingers & toes for your wifes court appearance tomorrow. It's rediculous she even has to go through that.
***Terry, nice city scene there. I'll 2nd the comment on good colors of the buildings.
Not many hours ago there was a chance of a wintery mix here tonight. Now there is a chance of 4"-5" of snow. My wife is a weather nut, so we took a drive to watch it roll in. Ever since the Storm Of The Century here (1993), she has zero faith in forcasters so observes our critters to gauge what is coming (just as accurate).
Afternoon, Zoe - I'll have the Santa Fe Chicken Cacciatore since SaronaTerry's covering. Yep, and a root beer float with it, please.
Thanks, Terry!

I'll be in the corner booth where Terry is, having my late lunch if anyone else comes in, Zoe.
Blessings,
Hey Terry.....I see the bar, but where's the Diner? I want some of that food you're buying!

Nice technique Jeff- Seems you got that one down real good.To look at them one would think they were actual decals. Sure beats putting on letters one at a time but in my case I still liked the way my loco came out.
