Morning everyone. 34 here this morning.Still calling for a winter mix.
Just coffee please and I'll go hide in the corner so Paul won't see me. LOL
Morning crew,
Can't stay long, pretty busy here today.
Zoe, on your return trip I'll have a cinnamon bagel and some of Ed"s OJ.
Jeff, if we are giving you a Title, then please spell it correctly. The name Rembrandt is spelled with a "D". You failed to put the "D" in its place. LOL Ha Ha Ha .
But we are really glad you like the title enough to use it. "The Spray Can Rembrandt" really does suit you.
Hope you all have a great day, I will try and get in later to see how things have gone.

Morning all!
I've been fighting fires this morning! No, not literally. AT&T in Indianapolis dropped all data service for the whole city. Talk about busy at my desk! Got most of it fixed now, but what a way to start a day! I got out of the shower to find 10,000 people hitting my cell phone. Gotta love a day that starts like that!
Have to go to court tomorrow. Hope all goes well there. We're trying to get Social Security to give my wife her disability benefits. She's clinically disabled, all her docs agree, but for some reason SS won't give her back the money that they took out of her paycheck for just this purpose all those years she worked. She just wants whats hers, nothing else. We're going to court to see about getting it. I don't see how she could lose, but it's a crazy world out there! Prayers would be awesome if you're the praying kind.
Still pretty chilly out there, but warmer then yesterday. Not by a ton though. This weekend they're talking about wind chills of -20 though. That doesn't sound too nice!
So thats whats up with me. What's your world look like this morning?
Glad that you asked! The New Orleans Seafood Chowder is a recipe that I developed many years ago (20 to be exact) when I was the Executive Chef at Elmwood in Jefferson, LA. It is similar to the style of the Manhatten Clam Chowder in that it is tomato and broth based and not the dairy version like in New England style. I keep the basic Manhatten chowder base of seafood stock, clam juice, tomatoes, onions, potatoes, and herbs, but instead of clams as the main protein, I use a hearty supply catfish chunks, large shrimp, and bay scallops. I also kick it up a couple notches with a little Cajun spice mix. It became a favorite among the regulars and if I skipped a week or two of making it they became restless...go figure!
YUM! Sounds good. Care to share the recipie Ryan?

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010

Thanks for backing me up on that one Duke!
Thanks for the dead foliage recipe and procedure Lee! Might have to try that on my testing module first to see how it comes out!
Paul, thanks for answering the live steam loco questions, I guess it all depends on how much mechanically inclined you are and that can save you some money. Just like scratch building on a layout saves money too! And it sounds like Lara Beth is progressing well now!
Der John, nice screen saver you got there! Oh, and I get those late night breaks too, especially if I take a lot of liquids at night.

I'm always right, except when I'm wrong
Good morning! Think I'll have some donuts and OJ. As promised, here is some more info on my layouts.
In HO: My 9'x11' laoyut is set in the Illinois, just a skip and a hop away from the Iowa/ Missouri Border. The era is the 1960's. it's set for mostly local running.
In N scale i have two: One is in a large shobox, just a simple point to point switching layout. the other is what's known as a pizza layout, a or a simple circle. (i also added a seperate branchline
In Gn15: This little layout fills a whopping 1.7 square feet. its a gravel crusher tramway sorta deal.

thanks, and so the train can still back into the industry siding. I'm working on adding a small power plant made out of what was leftover from a crane I had.
Good Morning All,
Just a regular to go please Zoe. Return trip to NYC went well with no long tours of unfamiliar neighbourhoods this time. (At least I can navigate by the rail lines - we used the Park Ave tracks to figure out where we were on Monday). Hope the rest of you lot are ok. Laters, J.R.

***Der, nice looking ground cover. Do you treat it for bugs or bake it or??? With all these GREAT ideas, and LOTS of readily available "stuff" around the farm here, doing things on the cheap should make building our layouts feasible.
Have a good night all.
Rob
Howdy each and every last one of you.
Today went well, cold but rays of sun now and again. Amyjo and I went to the hardware store in Albany to pick up primer for the new room, and Lo and Behold!, there on the unclaimed paint table were two quart cans of dirt brown paint! As I scooped them up, Amy said "I thought you were thinking blue for the walls." I explained ground color for the layout, and she was quite happy. I was quite happy that they cost a buck a piece.
Then after we went home, the telephone rings, it's the same friend who told me about the KCS units that visited town a few months back, this time he located two D&RGW SD40-2T's sitting just outside of Portland. I Thanked him, hopped in the truck and sure enough, 2 beautiful units were just sitting there, idling away. I LOVE SD40-2T's so I grabbed a bunch of pics, and these were in great shape. The 5413 was in the lead, with 5391 tagging along behind. The only foreign markings on them was a small "WE" printed under the cab windows. These were rare beasts, particularly for east central Indiana, and especially seeing as how Uncle Pete didn't repaint them Armour Yellow!
Ahhhhhh, goood times.

And Jim, in Indiana you are alwys CORN-fused, never confused. And yes, I do remember (in the general sense that all old people remember things) something about Fergie sending a Lanc to blow up someone, but that was in his younger days! Not too worried about it these days.
Welcome to Ozark Belt! Hope you visit often! And glad to see CNCharlie and Hoople in here.
Also just took the Garden Railways suscribers poll a bit ago, told them that I liked prototypical operations more than gardening. My garden grows a bumper crop of frustration on a regular basis. The thought of me trying to grow miniature Bonsai-like folliage is laughable. If I ever get around to building an outdoor railroad, it'll be the Round-up Division of the Sahara Southern!
OK, gotta do something. See you all later.
Der, no fireplace here, but that is a good idea, looks good too.
Paul, my boss told me about it. Hit a submerged object backing into her slip. Working thjrough state issues on de-ballasting to raise her. Can't use divers to patch for some reason, but salvage guru's think she'll float if de-ballasted.
Der-like the screensaver. When I did the boom I just built the basic shape then added the diagonal pieces.
And after reading Paul's posting-NJ Bob runs screaming out of the diner.
CN Charlie: Was south of the border over the weekend and picked up the train stuff I had sent to my friend's place. It was just like Christmas all over again.
Wow, I did a double take when I read "south of the border", thinking to myself "Where did he get model railroad stuff down here?" Then I realized you were referring to the "Medicine Line", and not the Rio Bravo.
By the way, forgot to point out that we're now just one month away from pitchers and catchers reporting to spring training. Baseball is just around the corner. Go Red Sox!!!
Good evening Diners: The storm last night took out the transformer down the road in a spectacular shower of sparks like a five minute fireworks display. Entertaining as that was in its own way, it did prevent us from seeing the end of MidSomer Murders. So if anyone happened to catch that on TVO from Ontario, could you let us know how it ended, and who the villain was?
We didn't try to go to Truro today because of th e reported road conditions. Glad to say the day was not entirely wasted, and I now have a clean desk! (NJBob, check out the screen saver!)
Just how long that will last I don't know, but a whole bunch of small tasks that I should have gotten around to before this have now been completed (or given up on as being too late!)
NJBob:
And yes I scratchbuilt the boom as well.
Lee:
For forest turf I use a special blend of tea leaves, coffee grounds, and a dash of woodland scenic's dull green grass

Der John, you couldn't sleep either, at least you were productive I just lay in bed until I feel asleep again.
Terry: I must have been asleep at the switch when Jeff talked about the GLEAM cleaning of track. Can you remember the page#?
And how do I reset it if it's already running?!
Got to go, early start tomorrow. Goodnight all, an d God Bless. Prayers for all in need of healing, comfort and peace.
"There are always alternatives, Captain" - Spock.
Good Evening Fellow Diners!
I haven't been around for a while so it took me some time to read through the latest pages.
Was south of the border over the weekend and picked up the train stuff I had sent to my friend's place. It was just like Christmas all over again. I've been busy the last few nights installing a few track pieces I was missing and an electric turnout machine. It's Unitrack so it isn't available locally and if I did order it I would probably pay twice as much at the LHS. I also took delivery of an Athearn RS3. It is quite nice especially for $63. I have to get a decoder for it but did test it last night on a short DC test track.
A day or two ago Johnboy mentioned he was sending an Alberta clipper my way. I am recieving it now. There is a south wind that will result in snow tomorrow and dropping temperatures. I thought it would be mild enough today to get the car washed as it was only -8C but the car wash was closed. The wind chill froze some piping so the car will just have to remain dirty for a few more days or perhaps weeks. Ah the joys of Winterpeg.
Congrats Jim on the new wheels! It is always both exciting and a little frightening when you make a purchase like that but it sure is fun!
I too think Jeff has done a great job painting those passenger cars. I can't imagine getting such great results with spray cans but he has.
See you soon,
CN Charlie

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,
Another beautiful day down here in Paradise. The cool front that was forecast never materialized today, and it probably got up into the low-mid 80's. Still not bad. Not too humid at this time of year. Should continue this was for a couple of days. Could get cooler on the weekend.
J.R. - sounds like you guys made out like bandits with all that G scale stuff. Congrats. Hope your roadtrip this morning went okay.
OzarkBelt - welcome to the Coffee Shop / Diner thread.
PC: I was thinking to myself that the weather guesser was way off when he said we'd only get an inch. There was already that on the ground and it was coming down hard. Well, I opened the door this morning and I could still see my tire tracks and footprints from last night! The snow must have stopped just minutes after I came in. We got an inch.
Jerry: I can't understand why orange prices are so low for you at our little store here I paid 50 cents an orange at Christmas time?
Catch you guys tomorrow.
Hasta mañana,
Ed
