Evening.
Got's a sound question. Thought about dropping a sound decoder into an Athearn Rotary. (this is after we un-notch the sound decoder in another engine) But son of a gun, no one has sounds for a Rotary plow thart I can find. It sounds liek I could just go with a steam recording, so do I need more of a heavy steam, or medium, etc.

in a Santa Fe mug, please & thank you!
I had to put down a nanny goat today that lost her kids before they were even born. We have no idea how long she had been in labor, but by the time we found her there was only one humane option. It's too dang cold.
Of all my plywood, none is both large enough & strait enough to cover the top of my train table. Plenty of strait OSB, but everyone nixed that option. I could always cut two sections from different plywood scrap sheets and combine them, but that would be less strong than one full section. Drats!

Thank you Ryan,
Twas nice to have that CZ fare on the menu, now in a few days I bet you can even find the Western Pacific menu for the CZ. No rush, I am a patient man.
Boy that salmon was really good, very enjoyable.. and as usual the company is top notch what a great bunch of folks you all are here at the Diner. It is always a pleasure to be in your company.
I'll check in again in the morning, but right now its home for supper then more tunneling.
In the mean time, keep an eye out for Cape Jim and see who he has on his arm now that he has that new set of wheels. They should be rolling in soon. I think he is kind of sweet on Zoe.

Good afternoon to all.....nver got over 19F here today, and with clear skies and no wind, the temp may well get below 0F tonight.
MITCH: Our prayers for your mom, " when two or more gather in prayer, there I am among you"....we may not be side by side physically, but members of this Diner sure are virtually.
Let me also add my comments to those who smoke or have friends and relatives who do: I watched 4 uncles and a 44 year old cousin all die of cancer caused by smoking. Another relative would not/could not give up smoking until the day she watched my uncle suffer and die in the hospital. She dropped her pack of cigarettes into the basket in the hospital room and never smoked again...that was 40 years ago. Think it can't be done? Think again !
JEFF: Our prayers for you my friend, we certainly pray for a quick and lasting recovery.
RYAN: I am very happy with the swing gate, your design really got me thinking in that direction, and it worked out very nicely. Thank you sir.
Well, we have some homemade pea soup for supper, the leftover ham bone did a great job!!!
Good evening all.
I'm starving. I think I'll have Chicken cordon bleu!
How's things going for you guys?

Let me add to the non smoking because of my friend Jack. He was only 68 when he died and it was from emphysema,so please think about it.

Afternoon Gang: I'll get on the anti smoking band wagon here. My friend Tony was a heavy smoker and now he is paying for it. So PLEASE if you smoke stop. It maybe rough but not nearly as bad as the consiquences.
I have to get going. Mary Ann has an appointment with the doctor. Just a check up.

Good moring Diners.....
First of all it's time to be serious. Mitch posted his Mom has COPD. As Lee said, Mitch should look it up. I suggest he go to webmd.com and read about it. This is the disease that ended the life of my wife's sister in Spetember 2007. It can be an extemely nasty disease. Mitch should get the full story from the doctor about his Mom's condition.
I might add my two cents, too. COPD is commonly caused by smoking. My sister-in-law had been a smoker. I urge everyone to ask smokers they know to quit smoking. It's not just that they kill you; it's HOW they kill you. I watched my sister-in-law die over a period of 17 days in ICU. It was awful.
The chapel car has been spotted next to the diner. Let's pray for Mitch's Mom.
Back to the diner and to mrr'ing.
I enjoyed Dick's photos very much. Steam and snow. Nothing looks better.
Hopefully, Johnboy can get phtos of his tennel project posted soon. I'd like to see them.
Ryan ...... I like the menu selection, too. The original California Zephyr may have been the greatest train anytime anywhere. It's been called "The Silver Lady" by many.
I worked yesterday afternoon and evening on the layout. I am building "east" of my fictional town of "Blackhawk" and eventually reach my planned city of "Heartland".
Happy Model Railraoding.
Morning folks!

Got about 1/2" snow late Saturday afternoon and evening, still some on the ground this morning, it never got above 25° F yesterday, and still in the teens this morning.
Nice to see so many taking advantages of my culinary and TOP talents from the other day...
Glad to see Mike and Dick in the Diner again.....thanks for the heads up Jim....
Going with the swing gate eh Dick.....wise choice! That L-shaped swing bridge is quite impressive. And seeing those CN pics again are just wonderful, the ones of the Ellis River Bridge crossing looks like calendar material too!
Der John, a Food Technologist eh! Very interesting, I thought about studying food technology, but no schools in Louisiana had that kind of curriculum, just studied the culinary arts. Did you create any new food flavoring agents?
Hey Sue, great water feature scene! What was your inspiration on the "cowpokes" in the water scene?
Lee, while you're waiting for the lake to freeze over, our pond is already got ¼" ice on top! And good news on the not so quick to transfer transfer news!
Phil, hope Runt gets better soon!
Welcome to the Diner Frank!
Now I'm off to the train room for some more scenery and weathering...

I must've not read that book or have seen that movie, Philnrunt - don't recall it. Sounds good for our weather, almost. Hope Runt gets healed up before too long.
I will be back for the breakfast buffet, definitely!
Blessings and see you later,

Good morning from frozen, snow covered Euclid, OH.
Paul, When I lived in South Texas I drove over a fault line all the time, didn't understand what it was until the seismic survey team was walking down my street with all that gear. When does little Laura get to go home?
ED, I do remember Voss coming into the diner and telling us he was shutting it down and I asked him just who the heck he thought he was walking in here and saying that. After he explained himself I was in the corner booth with coffee and humble pie. Yes, moving all the time is a pain, it's the only thing I don't like about the job, but after this tour I can't complain since it will be my fourth tour in the same house.
RT & GMT, every "big" ship gets really, really small after you live on it for 2 or more months. Those BB's were pulled into service during the first Gulf war because we had all this wonderfully preserved ammunition for them, and they are very impressive to the enemy when you toss compact car sized shells at them from several miles away.
Mitch, you need to look up COPD when you get the chance it's more of a condition than a disease. Hey do you have a list of train shows down around you I just scanned the flyers I picked up from last weekend's show if you want a copy of them.
Packers; Well that was a great game I really wish GB had won, but they played a great game that kept me on the edge of my seat.

Kinda late to mention this, but good job on the diner COX! I would put stuff in bold type, but it's more trouble than it's worth for a quick post.
PaulB- Give your friend our best. Wish I could thnk of something better to say, but words just don't cover emotions sometimes.
GMT- Looks like New Jersey and Olympia, IIRC- Good shots, love them BB's especially Iowa Class. Pure power.
Ed- I'm all for that chili, dish me up an extra large bowl. The Tobasco is in my locker, let me go get it.
Took Runt to the vet on Fri, she has been coughing, long story short she has congestive heart failure. I told her that would probably what gets us both. Doc put her on pills, she is sleeping soundly just off to my left now. Hope to have her around another 40-50 years. Or so.
11F right now and quarter to midnight and headed for single numbers maybe lower as the Dew Point is registering -7F, so the air temp could get that low with no wind to stir things up. Looks like a 2 dog night tonight guys and gals all across the country and certainly in Canada.
LEE: The double tracks will actually enter the gate as straight track, then immediately go into a curve across the gate to the left side before entering that table on the left side as straight track. If I plan it right, I should be able to have a 30" curve. The gate is all constructed of 2x4's and 3/4" plywood for strength to minimize any misalignment issues .
JIM: Don't rush to get into the ORF exalted order of MRR's, you will be there a looooong time! Enjoy your middle age.
ED: You got your wish, the Giants pulled it out in OT, Brett was not too sharp with his passes. I feel for the home crowd, it is so tough to lose at home, one game from the big one.
Brrr , time to throw another log on the fire..
Bon Soir mais amis,
Good evening Gang,
Chloe, I'll be in the corner and catching up with old Cannondale, Haven't seen him in awhile. Bring us both a cinnamon bagel and hot chocolates, Please & Thanks.
Well, you have to give it to them, the Giants played a great game, but I sure was cheering for the Packers. Oh Well, this is "Next Year Country" for all my favorite teams, Packers, Seahawks,Chargers,Redskins and Bengals.
Have just about got those two tunnel liners completed and I think they are going to look pretty great. Will try and figure out how to post some pictures when I get it completed. Once I get them down to my satisfaction I'll have a number more to do but they arn't so urgent. Also I received in the mail off of ebay on Friday a beautiful Western Pacific Express Reefer. It is a Walthers RTR, and it looks terrific. With postage from Florida I paid only 2/3 of what it is worth up here.
Sorry Ed, I had to pass on the chili, can't handle the Jalapenos, "Old man stomach syndrome". But thanks for the OJ popcicisles.
Have to call it quits for tonight, have to be up at 6:00 am, so I'm not going to get all my beauty sleep that I need. (that would take all day)
Welcome back all those friends that have been away for awhile, it is good to have you back where you belong.
Chloe, Drinks of their choice all around and put it on Vinnie's tab LOL.
Johnboy out.......................
The "Wobbly" only has one light on tonight, Oh darn and it just went out.
Evening, Janie - I'd like a bowl of chili (without the jalapeños), please, and a hot cocoa.
Thanks!

Low for tomorrow morning is suppose to be -4, and a wind chill -20. We'll have the faucets dripping tonight. Well, Inch, I guess I'll stop packing and loading my car. At least we have company in our mutual misery (NTBCW how some pronounce my state's name of Missouri).

Dick, excellent photo of that loco coming in through the snow! And glad to put in a plug for the OF's - I think according to someone's listing, I may be in that group, even though I haven't reached the exalted order of ORF's (yet).
CN Charlie - I'd stay out of those 'warm' breezes up your way until you get over that cold. Thanks for dropping the clippers' temp a few degrees. Now, could you warm them up another 5 or 10 degrees?
Hey, Johnboy - you know that if Ed leaves the jalapeños in his chili, you can keep your sinuses cleaned out, right? Wow, -18 Fahrenheit? No wonder bears hibernate!
It's currently 17 F (-8 C) and mercifully, there's no wind for wind chill to make it worse. Supposed to drop to 9 F (-13 C) tonight, but 'warm up' to 10 F by getting up time in the morning.
Didn't get any significant MRR'ing done today, unless you count some rearranging of conifer trees (and finding a tree base that got dropped a couple of weeks ago) on my layout. (I'm temporarily using the bases until I get the ground scenery mostly done to insert/glue the trees into the 'ground'). Also this afternoon, I was online, checking some scenery materials I want to order next. That, and updating my Quicken file with some MRR purchases I made yesterday.
Good to read the various bio/other info you all have been posting. Oh, Garry, don't worry about sounding like MisterRogers. Having watched several of his shows as my daughter was growing up, I enjoyed them. Besides, he was a MRRer - remember the trolley?
Better get back to my chili for now.
Blessings,
Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,
Beautiful, if rather chilly, evening here in Paradise. Made even more beautiful by the Giants win over the Packers (sorry Terry). Great defensive effort by the Giants. Probably not Favre's best outing. I do hope he returns for another season. But right now I'm looking forward to the Giants vs Dick's Patriots in two weeks.
Johnboy: Ed, are you making enough CHILI to have it served up in the diner. As long as you keep the jalapenas out of it I'll have a couple of bowls.
Congrats on staying put, Lee. There was a time in my career when I really enjoyed the moving every year or two. But as I got older it got to be less and less enjoyable.
Going to call it an early evening. We have something to do early tomorrow morning, so that means getting up a lot earlier than normal. I'll try to make up for that with two naps tomorrow.
Hasta mañana
Ed
Evening folks-just coffee as usual.
Haven't been here in awhile, as the last few weeks have been a little goofy. My Mom has been back in the hospital again as she starting having trouble breathing after a cold a week or so ago. From what I understand she was diagnosed with COPD. (we're not sure what that is exactly, but it's supposed to be a step below pneumonia) She's doing ok now, just tired & weak from it-they're going to put her in the skilled nursing unit tentatively tomorrow to get her strength back up.
I finally got a model done after a hiatus of 3/4 of a year-you may have seen it on WPF. My plans are to get the next one done (hopefully) by the end of next month, but don't lay any $$ down on that prediction!
Anyways, everything else is going ok, just cold. 9 degrees here as I write this. Looking back, it seems we get our coldest weather here (as a rule) the last week or so of Jan. Let's hope this is it & temps will be more moderate in February (we'll probably get dumped on by snow though as we haven't gotten it too bad...yet.)
Well, I better git-gonna work on a few other things before bed-nite all!

Did get some pics of some other heavy objects when we walked to the river yesterday.

Evening Gang: We went in to the hospital and saw Lara. She was all bundled up in a blanket with the isolet open. She was awake and looking all around. As we talked to her she looked at us which she hasn't done before. She is sure a keeper.
I'm sorry I wasn't better company last night it had been a rough day. I got a call this morning from a guy who said he was with the railroad and needed to talk to us about getting access across our land to the right of way. When I was over at my neighbors talking to him about it here comes some guys laying cable for a sismec survey. We went out and asked them what they were doing and tole them that we owned the land that the right of way is on and the the UP only has an easement and that they did not have permission to be there. They took up the lines and left. We talked to there boss and he said that he had been told that they had permission but that the permit man would be in touch. Turns out that the guy that had called earlier was the permit man. They now have as much chance of getting our permission as a snow ball in a blast furnace. Everyone wants a piece of us. I had to get that rant out. At least I did get to do some train watching. Two UP freights went by while we were talking to the survey guys.
Welcome Frank. Have a cold one or hot one on me.
Well I see that Daisy the dog has hit the sack so I think that I'll do the same.
Good Night All
Thank you everybody for the warm welcomes. It is very humbling to be able to ask and get replies from all of the great modelers on this forum. There is so much to learn all the time.

Yup, thought so. The original Coffee Shop thread began on April 29, 2004, and ran a total of 1,353 pages before it was shut down (they asked us to restart in a new thread). 27,058 posts. Final post was on Jan 1st, 2007. 20 months!
