Hello .......
Paul asks: "Garry: Have you been watching too many Loony Toons. You're beginning to sound like Elmer Fudd. ( evwery?? )." Actually, I donnt tipe vwery gud.
Fergie ...... I enjoyed the photos.....
NJ Bob .. I hope I didn't sound like I was being judgemental or anything..... Sounds like you've had your struggles trying to kick the habit. As was stated, we're here to be your friends. Where I'm coming from as I've mentioned is I just saw (Sept. '07) my sister-in-law die of COPD, and it an awful way to go. I'd hate to see anyone else go thru that. Furthermore, it's really tough on surviving famly members. My wife, Shelley, is still deeply grieving loss of her sister. If you wish to quit and want a cheerin section, we're ready. Ditto for Mrs. NJ Bob, too.
While talking of lungs, are all you people protecting yours while you are working on your models? Spray paint can damge those lungs, too.
I've been reading that Warren Buffet's Berkshire Hathaway has taken advantage of low stock prices to increase its ownership of Burlington Northern Santa Fe to 18%. On a much smaller scale (microscopic in comparison), I just bought some shares of Canadian National yesterday. I was buying BNSF before Warren Buffet and got some a few years back for less than $30/share. It's been in the nineties larely but now is less than $80.00. I think RR's will continue to do well indefinately because of fuel prices.
Today, I took a break from layout construction to take care of other stuff. This evening, I operated the layout some.
I can ahrdly wait until morning so I may have Ed's Mandarin OJ with breakfast. Mmmmmmmmmm.
Happy Model Railroading.

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,
Another beautiful day down here in Paradise. Low 80's, partly sunny. Borderline needing to run the a/c.
Went out to the orange grove today and did some routine maintenance, plus cut some fruit, and my in-laws squeezed 5 gallons of fresh Mandarin orange juice there in the field.
No nap. Almost ruined my day. Tomorrow could be another tough nap day. We're planning on dusting the golf clubs off (after a 10 month absence from the game) and heading over to the club to play nine holes. This is the best time of year to play, because it's still not too hot. We walk the course when we play, so playing in the middle of summer is pretty much a death march.
Northern Phil: It was Capt. L.E.G. Oates, of the Scott Antartic Expedition, who knew that, due to his frostbite injuries, he was slowing his team members down, and cutting their chances for survival.
NJ Bob: To tell you all the truth I probably should never have left.I tend to over react.
Dick: Be careful crossing the river in your truck to get to the OJ grove !!!!!
Johnboy: "You're da Man". We all should be so blessed to have a life like yours. Even afternoon siestas. Warm weather, beautiful señoritas, endless OJ. Copper Canyon train rides, It just doesn't get any better does it ?
Fergie - thanks for the photos from St Johns. That diesel and the mail car weren't there when we were there two years ago, and I didn't notice them if they were there this year. Must have been moved there from Pippy Park. Looks like all three have been recently repainted. btw, my sister said they had another 15cm of snow last night.
PC - ouch. Glad your daughter wasn't seriously hurt. She'll learn from that one, hopefully.
Well, this could be it for now. I'm pretty tuckered after that orange grove run.
Hasta mañana,
Ed
Evening Gang: I saw my friend Tony today. He really looked good and was talking much better. I'm not thinking that he has licked the cancer but I'm glad that he's living better. The VA folks are really taking good care of him. That civi hospital almost killed him. I took the train to Dallas. Except for missing the 12:15 and having to wait for the 1:33 the trip was good. I got off the train in Dallas and only had to wait 5 minutes for the light rail to the VA. ( For us old coddgers that's a street car. ) On the way back I got off the light rail and right on to the train. Talk about good connections.
NJBob: We are all here to help if you want. Please try again and get your wife to try also. We really care about you.
Colby: Good luck on the exams but don't depend on luck depend on study. I know that you will hit the books.
Garry: Have you been watching too many Loony Toons. You're beginning to sound like Elmer Fudd. ( evwery?? ).
Fergie welcome back to dry land. How was the trip?
Johnboy: I'm a grand pappy. At 65 I wouldn't mind being a pappy again but I don't think that Mary Ann would go for it.
Well I think that I'll head for bed.
Good Night All
School... meh. Is it the weekend yet?
Just checking in... Not much new over here.
Fergie-How did you do it? Cold turkey?I have been smoking for the better part of 40 years and have tried many times to quit.Either I haven't found a method that works or I don't want to quit.It seems like when I do try to quit I find an excuse to start again.Sounds lame doesn't it?I know it's not doing me any good and I can be saving a lot of money.
So how about a challenge? You've been off smokes for 13 years-how about helping me kick the habit?I know I can use the help.My wife smokes so she's no help.NJ Bob
Man! I've been out of the loop for a few days. Between people at work getting silly and making up goofy new rules (like I can't cruise the internet while I'm doing other things that are work related because appearently some folks can't multitask and so if they can't do it, no one can......but I'm not upset! ) and my daughter turning her car into a pretzel I've got so catch up reading to do!
Yeah, you read right....My little girl had her first accident. She's fine and so is the other guy, but the car is history. She slid on some ice ended up running her front end down the side of some guys pickup truck. I'm quite sure she wasn't speeding as where she lost control and where the car ended up weren't that far apart and it's a 45mph area. It was just one of those deals where it was an icy spot where the road comes up over a knoll and curves at the same time, and she just misjudged it. It's a pretty easy mistake to make right there for anyone, but she's still a rookie. She's been driving for just over a year. I'm just glad everyone was OK. She's got a couple of bruises and some sore muscles, but I think her ego took the biggest beating.
Yeah, the world will forever be deprived of this masterpiece on wheels!
Oh well, I'm going to go back a few pages and catch up on whatever it is I've been missing!
Sorry to hear the bad news Phil. We just lost one of our 4 legged friends the day after Christmas, so I really can sympathize!
Foulrift, I quit after twenty years, cold turkey. It was tough, but I wouldn't go back for anything! More power to ya!

Yes Ed I made it home! Came home a day early as I figured the weather was going to be bad. I guess there were all kinds of delays this morning due to blowing snow.
The temps were -10c with a -27c windchill
Foul Rift: Not an easy venture. I use to smoke a pack and a half a day but have been smoke free for 13 years. Took me several attempts to free my self. Now the smell makes me want to gag.

Hello ...
I'll have the GM&O Steak and rings please. The NP apple pie ala mode for dessert. Thanks.
Ryan ... I bet you are a ware that the specialty of the house in the NP diners were their jumbo baked Idaho potatoes.
Jeff ... good news abou the foot. Glad to hear about that. Sorry, however, to learn that you need more insulin. Best wishes.
Paul .. Gald to hear about little Lara's progress. Sounds vwery good!
Colby ... I bet you will study hard for those mid terms and get some A's.
Rob ... If you continue specifying union Pacifc mugs for your coffee, it will be "U.P." for sure ...er...uh..oh, never mind... never mind.
NJ Bob ... Please stay away from smoking if you have COPD. I can tell you for sure, you don't want that condition to get worse. Tell us you have quit in your next post, please. Good luck with the passenger cars.
Happy Model Railroading
Red Horse: Welcome to the diner. I like your idea having a dedicated trailer as your layout room. I have my layout in the front room of my trailer. That gives me a space 7' 8" wide, 10' long on the right side and 6' 5" on the left side. I had to leave space for the kitchen and entry door. I live in the back room and the bathroom and closet are in between.
Good morning.Went to see the foot doctor yesterday afternoon. He says my foot is looking good and to keep up what I'm doing. This morning I had an appointment with my primary care provider who said basically the same thing about my overall health. He did increase my insulin dosage a little bit though. It was 90 units. Good afternoon Fellas & Gals,
Chloe, I'm not going to wait for supper, bring on that "Blue Plate Special" sounds great and a large 7-up or Dr. P. for a swish.
RYAN: Great work on those menus. Don't think I'll be going any where else to eat anymore. Wonderful staff you have here as well.. Who is cooking these days ?? and that Chloe and her sister Zoe are just knockouts.
DICK: If you get a chance, I would go and get yourself some more firewood, I don't think it is over for awhile yet. TOday all over western Canada it is close to the -20c. Edmonton & Grand Prairie are -19c, Calgary is -17c. Here in Regina it is -19c Even in Spokane Washington it is -13c. So it looks like it will take the better part of the week to shake this off. Second pair of socks weather for sure.
Ed: "Youre da Man". We all should be so blessed to have a life like yours. Even afternoon siestas. Warm weather, beautiful senioritas, endless OJ. Copper Canyon train rides, It just doesn't get any better does it ?????
Paul: Very gald to hear that "Little Lara" is growing strong and doing well. Bet you are a proud "Papa"
NJBob: I have been trying my darndest to copy and paste a picture that I wanted to share here about the light at the end of the tunnel. But I haven't got it figured out yet. Maybe I have to put it in a Word Doc. first and then move it. I'll keep trying. Glad you changed your mind.
Phil: So sorry to hear about Runt, Those are always sad times. Over the years we have lost (due to old age) to many wonderful companions. So tough you always think I won't do that again, but, they have lived their life span and I think have had a good life especially if they were fortunate enough to be part of a family who really loved and appreciated them, and there is always a little guy or gal needing a good place to live out their lives as well. so we just move on and fill that void with a new bundle of fur, and enjoy their own personality.
Red Horse. I have always thought it would be great to have a caboose. What a great get-away it would be. But you have put a whole new twist on the matter. Great idea and I'll be waiting for spring to watch your progress on it. Lots of luck.
CNCharlie, I think you know this but anyway, That "Odorless Garlic" is just what it says. It is odorless and no after taste. I take it regularily, it helps to keep the imune system strong. Now to change the subject, could you please tell me when CN stopped running to Churchill and if this new "Yankee" outfit runs right out of Winnipeg or do they interline with CN up there somewhere like Thompson ???
Well the Postman just arrived with my order from Micro-Mark, so I guess you know what I'll be doing for awhile. Fairly large package and it took two weeks to get here. I guess that is not too bad coming through customs and all. I bought a NWSL. Chopper, and magnetic building jig, those rubber mixing bowls, truck tuner and a right clamp and a couple of other small items. They all look pretty good. kind of anxious to get to use them now.
Have a great Day and evening all, prayers and blessings to all in need.
Johnboy out.................

Afternoon everyone and thanks for the welcome back.Top of the page-Guess I'm buying today.
Mitch-I hope everything goes well for your mother. My doctor told me back in June that I had COPD.It kills me just to do the simple things. He gave me a RX for pills to help to quit smoking and they worked .I quit for 3 months until ins. co wouldn't pay for them anymore.Because of that and other stresses at the time I went back to smoking. Not a smart thing to do.Anyway goo luck.
Ryan-I'll have a bowl of soup and the Blue Plate Special. Thanks
I can't wait to get the passenger cars from Lee so I can make a diner (Elliotts Trackside naturally). Should make for an interesting project. NJ Bob
Morning all Hey zoe I'll have 4 pancakes with lots of that fresh maple syrup on the side plate 2 eggs over meed with 4 slices of toast , hash browns and bacon and a large glass of eds OJ .

Life's hard, even harder if your stupid John Wayne

Good Morning All,
I'll have a regular and a glazed donut to go please Zoe. Lots to do and a late start besides so I gotta run. I'll try to check in later.
Welcome back NJBob and welcome to our two new folks. The idea for using a trailer for a layout room is great. We used to have a character about here who had his layout around the upper part of his motor home which was his permanent residence. Catch y'all later, J.R.
Morning folks!
The low was 39° F this morning, a regular warm front, but the Artic Express is coming again tomorrow....sigh...
Glad that the mini tree clinic was of use for some folks, and thanks for those who made positive comments on the layout progress!
Welcome back Avenger and NJBob! Though, NJ, I never really thought that you left us!

Near a cornfield in Indiana...
Good evening gents, just stopped in for a cold root beer, been steam cleaning the carpets for the CFO, one of the HD jar projects that I have been putting off for three years.....what a job, the actual cleaning was easy, moving all the furniture...well...at age 69 ( Friday ), that is another matter all together, the mind is 20 + but the body says the truth.
RED HORSE: Welcome to the Diner , I have been through your town several times, we go to Attitash Mountain every Feb and Oct, and been all through that area, route 12, 16, 302, 153, Chocorua, etc.. Maybe you can go to CSRR and get a set of trucks and some old rail to place under the trailer. I live about 2.5 hour drive SW of you, just outside the city of Worcester, Ma.
CN CHARLIE, KEVIN, JOHNBOY: Blizzard conditions up there, -22F, is that what we can expect in new England in a couple of days? This has been some winter, I am now on my third row of fire wood, ( 3 of 3 ) and hope it holds out until the snow melts so that I can get up back and bring in more wood from the covered pile in the west 40.
ED: Be careful crossing the river in your truck to get to the OJ grove !!!!!
RYAN: Great method on making trees, very cost effective. BTW, how come that cell phone can't run our trains on DCC?
Ok, time to hit the sack, see you guys for breakfast...JEFF, your up for morning coffee duties Cloe told me to tell you, and BTW, better fix that roof damaged by Rita before next season hits, only 4 months away mon ami,
Well let's see. Tried to log in to my favorite Forum last night, and kept getting an "invalid e-mail or password" message. This was after trying to log in to my second favorite RR forum, and the site not recognizing the fact that I logged in. So I left, tail tucked between my legs, thinking Stoooopid computer.
When I woke up, it dawned on me that if I had put the RIGHT password in, maybe I could have been in here last night. The other problem has been taken care of also. Tonight all is well with the puter world.
And it is much warmer in the PD, so I can explain that the quote the other night should have been " I'm just going outside, and may be sometime". It was Capt. L.E.G. Oates, of the Scott Antartic Expedition, who knew that, due to his frostbite injuries, he was slowing his team members down, and cutting their chances for survival. Even with his sacrifice, all perished. Still, I've always admired him. And Scott, Shackleton, Amundsen, Peary, etc, etc. Tougher men than I. So there you go, JIMRC and Ed. Sorry I didn't get it right the first time, but my mind was numbed by the cold that night!
Silverspike and CN Charlie- Thanks for the good wishes for Runtzpunkin, she has become such a huge part of my life that just the thought of her not being around can choke me up. For someone who never really liked pets, I sure have changed. Never liked kids either, and now both of 'em are incredibly important to me. How the once mighty have fallen.
Rob- Sure do hate to hear about the nanny goat. Nature sure can be unforgiving at times.
BlueHillsCPR and Redhorse- Welcome, hope to see you in here alot.
Looks like the temps are gonna tank again, it was 10F when I came in to w**k, and I think the high tomorrow will be in the teens. Great. I was really worried that it might not get stoopid stinkin' cold again. Glad to know I was concerned for no reason!
Take care all, now that I remember my password, maybe we will see y'all tomorrow.
Tall cool glass of water is all for me tonight. Thanks!
RED HORSE, great idea turning the train room/trailer into a caboose. Look forward to seeing pics of it down the road...or should I say "tracks".
Have a good night all. Rob
Another truly beautiful day down here in Paradise. Climbed up to just around 80º, blue sky, light breeze. I'm trying to enjoy this weather while we have it. By March or April this will be just a faded memory, and being outside won't be nearly as comfortable.
Talked to my brother and sister up in Newfoundland this morning. They just got another 10" (25cm) of snow. It was -19ºC there this morning with a wind chill of -31ºC. Yeah, they were happy for me when I told them how the weather was here. I wonder if Fergie is still in St Johns, or whether he's already on his way back to N.S.?
It's amazing how little I can do and still fill up a day. Although we were tired after yesterday, we got up early and did our morning constitutional, then did the big weekly grocery shopping. In the afternoon I went to play some pool with my F-I-L. Oh yeah, and managed to fit a nap in there between all that stuff.
Tomorrow we plan to head back out to the orange grove to do some routine maintenance and cut some more fruit.
Mitch - hope things work out for your Mom. Working at the library until she was 78? That's some accomplishment.
Ryan - layout continues to come along nicely.
CG Jim: Were your magazines MR, Trains, and the like?
Kevin / Blue Hills CPR - Welcome to the Diner.
NJ Bob - nice to see you back in here.
Red Horse - Wow, a dedicated trainroom trailer, to be decorated as a caboose no less! That should be nice when you have it done. And I'll say welcome because I don't remember seeing you in here before.
That's about it for this evening. Catch up with you tomorrow.
Evening Gang:
Mitch: I'm happy to hear that your mom is doing a bit better and in a place that she likes. That's important to help her get better.
Ah, NJBob is back so things are getting back to normal. I'm glad that you are back, Welcome.
Welcome Red Horse. That is a neat idea to make the trailer into a caboose. Will it stil be movable? What type of a layout will it be and in what scale?
Not much here. I did get a copy of Model Railroad Planning 2008. I haven't really looked at it yet but it looks good at first glance. We went to the hospital today. Lara is in a crib and was all tucked in with a blanket. She looked so cute, like a little peanut. by the time we got back from the hospital and a stop at Wally World the day was pretty much shot. I went over to the creek and did some more dirt hauling. I think a couple of more hours and it will all be over on the north side of the creek. It is cold here today. I haven't checked the temp. Ignorance is bliss.
Lee the Mc Mylar would be interesting. A friend of mine built a loader from an article in MR and it was really nice. One person was kept busy running it.
Welcome Kevin. Have a cup of your choice of beverage on me.
Well I guess I'll head for bed.
