Evening Gang: We went to see the baby with John today. It's the first chance I've had to get a picture of him with Lara. She is still doing well.

When we got back I hooked up the dump trailer and brought it up to the house so I can charge up the battery. I'll have to get it over across the creek so I can start moving the dirt. That has to be finished and seeded by the first of March or so. After I did that I had to feed and that was a bear. The cows kept following me and trying to get into the hay lot. I finally got one bale out and that keep them occupied while I got the other two out.

The weather has been very interesting. For the last couple of days it's been warm like in the upper 70s and lower 80s. Today it started out around 70 and went down hill from there. We had some thunder storms and rain last night. We need it to really rain for a couple of days. It's very dry and we are having fires again. It's not as bad as a couple of years ago. Still there are have been some houses lost along with a bunch of pasture.

John has decided to stop working on the 7 1/2 in gauge out at the ranch. He hadn't done much on it so no big deal. He is looking at doing 5 inch scale/15 inch gauge. That is going to be much later when there is more time to work on it. I guess I'll have to buy the rail that he has collected.

Well I guess I'll head out.

Good Night All

Afternoon, all.

Walthers does a nice job shipping. 10-14 days? Nope. 8 days I wait. Then they came.

I have my passenger cars, my budd dome coach and my NYC plan 64 seat coach, both in matching SP red stripe.

The set of four is pretty. Next I want the Kato business car and the Rapido baggage.

We are getting the royal sampler package of weather.  60F sunny, 55F Fog, 47F cold and damp, Rain, and then Snow, and then freezing rain, and then sleet, and then flood warnings, and currently it's 38F, rain, fog, and 94% humidity. Tomorrow will be a High of 42 with thunder storms turning to snow and a low of 28F.  I think our Canada neighbors are sending us their leftovers from the last storm, LOL.

Flashwave, congratulations on the test.  At work we observe "the rule of gross tonnage" it means the largest ship gets the right of way every time.  Sounds like you did a good job of missing the truck.

Jim, No, no, no... one plethora is equal to two virtual cornucopias. A gaggle in geese is equal to one murder in crows.  Aha, what to do with the pipe parts once you get your hands on them, well lucky for you I know pipe and I have several pictures I can share if you wish of pipe and its placement.  I thought the oil conversion project was cool how they took a 0-4-0 shifter and turned it into an oil burning cab forward.

http://yardbirdtrains.com/YBDetailParts.htm

I have several (about one half of a plethora) Mantua locomotives that could use a new motor and some detail work.  That is like project #1,345.78 on the list of things to do for the layout.

Just call me hubcaps!

Swimming was cancelled again, and mom was home, so we went and I took my Written Driver's Test. (Which I only missed 1 on!)on they way back, we came in on the winding Blind S also known as IN 39. around the corner, in the wet, came a very fast 18 wheeler. Mom screamed and reached over, as we both saw the trailer wheels crossing the line and coming towards us. We hugged the wall and made it through, but man. The pickup truck behind us was ironically Mom's ex whom we get along with well. he also drove trucks and gave the the driver heck fo taking the curve so fast.

BTW, the curve? it was laid because of a house on the hill. He knew people who wanted money, which he had, and they weren't gonna put a road through his yard.

Chance of severe storms tonight into tomorrow. YeeHaw! Picked up a load of square bales today. If there are any left (and I can swing it), I'll pick up the rest from that feed store this weekend.

Lee, I'm kinda fuzzy on my units of measurement - how many gaggles is a plethora? Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] That does look like a useful site for those parts. Now, if I knew more about how to tell which parts I might need for a steam loco, it would help more. Not that I'm too knowledgeable on the parts of locos (diesel or steam)...

We've had a few downpours here during the day at various times. The weatherguessers are saying that we may get strong showers this afternoon, but nothing coming down at the moment from those dark grey clouds.

Jeff, I like that RS-2(?) as it is! Wink [;)]Thumbs Up [tup] - but I know you'll be repainting it. Hey, I'll be doing that with some of my diesels (the SP ones mostly. since they won't directly link to the CAW, plus I'll be repainting the Pennsy GE44ton).

Well, 40 minutes till going home time. [Yay!]

It's an MDC RS-3. I just splashed some Model Elements rust on it to see how it would look. It's next stop is the paint shop to receive MGRy colors.

Good morning everyone.

I found a plethora of white cast metal parts for detailing steam locomotives.

http://yardbirdtrains.com/YBDetailParts.htm

The Walther's built up movie theater with the peacock marquee was very cool, but did not have the small town feeling I'm going for.

4-in-one kit..... Very good kit (now that I know what I'm doing with it) I bashed #1 and #2 together to build the Kvasnok Creamery on my layout.

My web page is going well, the intro I have tuned up so the page loads faster hopefully I get that uploaded tonight.  http://www.lswrailroad.bravehost.com/ I doubt I will ever atone for my wicked ways and repent enough to go back to "that other hosting service". (sarcasm is just another free service I offer).

Jeff, that RS-3 (?? Maybe a 1 or 2) looks like it just rolled out of the steel yard, very cool.

Good Morning, Diners! I see Bill T.'s been in, and PC, JR and Lee. Zoe, I'll just have a coffee, glass of Ed's OJ, and one of Bill's chocolate donuts, please.

Thanks! Oops [oops] And I guess I'll be covering breakfast today, folks. Zoe, keep me a total, please (and no letting anyone try to sneak through a Big Boy or Challenger, claiming it's their '"breakfast"!).

PC, take good care of your CFO and that bruised leg today. Yeah!! [yeah] Your daughter's retriever is already a year old, huh? Super large bag of Dog Chow should do it (for the day...[Whistling [:-^]:-^]) Your train layout is up high off the floor, right? I know those 'happy tails' sometimes get a waggin', and wouldn't want one of your favorite engines to end up on the floor.Shock [:O]Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] But those retrievers are loving dogs - just keep feeding it... Ooh, nice crown, too!

Yesterday afternoon at w**k was one of those appointments that I have to just unwrap my mind afterwards, after trying to follow the client's thought(?) process, just veg for the evening to do that. I feel better this morning, though. Smile [:)]

Lee, I was wondering if the theater might be the Bachmann one. The manufacturers could stand to come out with some era-neutral theater, considering that most towns of any size (from the 40's on) had some kind of movie show. For me, the Bachmann looks older, and some of the others look kind of bigger than ones I recall in the 1950's. Of course, those multiplex ones now....Shock [:O]

Got an email that my (Walthers) ATSF covered hoppers are in, so will have to pick those up (two-pack of the PS 2893 cu.ft. ones). Might have told you all last night, but my last of current eB** auction wins arrived yesterday - Walthers 4-in-1 modular kit. So I'm fixed up for any specialized buildings I need for a while, between that and the other modular stuff I have (Walthers and DPM). We hada new guy come by the club meeting last night, I understand (I was gone), and sounds like he appears enthused and ready to join, so want to meet him at next week's meeting.

I was looking through my motive power accumulation over the weekend, and I probably have enough for a while (except for a nice Mikado and/or Pacific I want). I have two P2K SW900/1200's, an Athearn SW7, Athearn Genesis F7A (SP colors), P2K ATSF GP7 and an undec. P2K GP7, Athearn SP GP9/7, Walthers D&RGW GP9m, Spectrum PRR GE 44 ton, Roundhouse Shay (2-truck, needs some fixing of loose rods), and a (IHC?) Mogul 2-6-0. Oh yeah, and several RDC's (five or six, I think). And only a 2'X8' layout to run it all on (so far)! A lot of the locos (other than the Santa Fe and D&RGW ones) will need painting/repainting and the CAW's logo and numbers put on. Still need a section with the roundhouse and turntable (and have to build the 90' Walthers kit and a Como (hydrocal, I think) roundhouse). So I'm about as backed up with stuff as the rest of you in here, huh? Wink [;)]

Well, it's time to hit it here at the office. Walk-in clinic and crisis w**k for me today. And in honor of PC's daughter's new dog:

"Happy tails to you, until we meet again..." Whistling [:-^] Whistling [:-^]Whistling [:-^]

Blessings on your week,

Morning all!

The wife hurt her leg yesterday slipping on ice.  It's not bad, just sore.  I decided to stay home today so I can take care of her and she can really relax it.

And now.......

Because inquiring minds want to know!

The crown of the chili cookoff champion!

And here is the king and his crown!

Go ahead, have your fun!  You don't even need photoshop to make this look funny!

Next year, you too could be the proud bearer of this prestigious award!  Thats right friends and neighbors, at the end of the year I pass my crown to the new king (or queen)!  Stop by the church on Super Bowl Sunday with your best chili and this crown could be all yours!

Later!

Yeah, she (the daughter) got her yesterday and she's (the dog) a year old.....so right to the massive feedings it is!

Good morning All,

Just a regular and a donut to go please. Jerry - got the E-mail and am on it this week. Not much doing on the layout as w..k is interferring with the start of the season rushing up at warp speed. What do we think about a chili cookoff/fiesta soon? Ed can send some of his tamales, the CFO can contribute some of our humoungo soft tacos, and Ryan can design the program/menu? Gotta run but I'll try to check in later.   J.R.

Good Morning,

Yesterday it was 40F when I got home from work, by 10pm it was 50F.  We have had thunderstorms and steady rain all night and its 54F this morning.

Jim, My LHS had the Bachmann Lyric Theater marked down to $17.  Simple brick building, 2 story.

Last night I started work on the DPM "The other corner café".  Seems I bought or collected all the DPM downtown kits over the years.  Well time to go to work.

Evening folks-just some coffee in one of my new mugs thanks to Cape Jim (haven't figured out GIF transfer yet-will check out at a better time-late here)

Mom  & Dad are doing fine-Dad's getting better slowly, & just talked to Mom about an hour ago-she's feeling fine also-docs said they may have to give her a difibrillator, but not sure yet.  She's waiting on news as much as I am. But her spirits are still good, & she's eating well.

Lee & Phillip-Thanks for sharing your recipes. I'll save & pass on to Dawn if she's interested-who knows, she likes to experiment if something sounds good, & always open to ideas-no worries, she won't pass them on I hope! (Lee-PM about the train shows to come)

Jeff-the age of your trailer & it's condition is outstanding, considering some of the problems she told me about of her neighbors' trailers in her park, & some of them weren't even 10 years old!

(Looks at clock-better hit the sack-nite all!)

   Hello all.

OK, lets get to it- Silverspike- You want to see my pictures? YOU want to see my pictures?!?!? Man, I want to see my pictures! I went online with Amyjo's laptop this weekend, thinking I might be able to post a few on railroadpicturearchives.net or photobucket, rrpicarc.net seemed ok, but they mentioned they were restricting new albumns to areas not heavily covered yet or pre-1990 shots. I have tons of those, and I think I would fit in with the not heavily covered area, but I hesitated, and went to photobucket. After trying 20 different passwords, I decided to give up and get my password cheat sheet here at work. Last night, I spaced it, but tonight I'll try again, because JUST TODAY I grabbed 2 shots of D&RGW 5413 followed by an NS unit in the fog as they ran through Redkey. The buildings around the track look like model railroad structures, and I love shots of trains in bad weather. I still haven't developed the last shots of the D&RGW units, but I'll try to get them over to wallyworld and get them printed. And then, with the disc maybe figure out how to post. Amyjo would be glad to help, but our schedules barely leave time for - well, you name it. Tonight when we laid down for our nap, it was the first time since last Tues we were actually in the same bed together at the same time. She also had a tooth filled last Thur and the dentist put too much cement on it, so she was in pain all weekend. Soon, my friend, soon.

Let's see, not much else to report, I knew that pcarrell's winning chili wouldn't last long, should have tried to get down that way after his first post!

    Hang in there guys.

Evening, ET Diners! Chloe, how about a chocolate frozen yogurt concrete, please.

Thanks, Flashwave!

I figure that those chili recipes you folks have been posting probably would take off the roof of my mouth if I tried to eat some of them. Shock [:O]Evil [}:)]

Oh, Mitch, I found a couple of things you might like:

I'll leave the mugs with our lovely servers, so just tell one of them which one you'd like your coffee in. Smile [:)]

Sorry for our Patriots fans, but that was some game, all right. Of course, I really enjoyed several of the commercials! Laugh [(-D]

Our fog finally cleared away late this morning. Seems weird to have the temp in February around 67 F at suppertime. Hope Inch and Jerry are laying low tonight - from the radar images on the TV, there's a bit of a front coming up through St. Louis in a northeasterly direction, though the front isn't moving east at very much of a clip. It's not supposed to get to us until tomorrow,if I recall correctly. They're saying 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow night will be the rougher time for it.

Paul, good to hear Tony's feeling as best as can be expected and isn't in any great pain. As for the RDC's, I wouldn't mind getting to ride one of those some time.

Fergie, have you changed the size of your MESS(tm) logo in your signature? I've noticed that lately it seems like the bottom of it is cropped off (flat instead of round shape). I sure hope that Lisa wears protective padding around the house, from what you described...Whistling [:-^] Whistling [:-^] It is probably better that she didn't go skiing with you, though.

DerJohn, thanks for the ballasting clinic - very useful (and I'm in HO scale, too!) - thanks! You continue to be making the progress on your layout Thumbs Up [tup] - unlike myself and one or two others.... Blush [:I]

Lee, which theatre did you go with for Fox Creek? I kind of like the Scale Structures Art Deco  Theatre or the Branchline Majestic Theatre, but don't like the $50-60+ price for either. Still wondering whether to go with the DPM 'Entertainment District' that has a theatre in it, or
just start saving up for one of the above kits. Ah well... Good to hear that you have a place for your website - let us know the full address once you have it all up, okay?

PC, if you daughter's got herself a Golden Retriever, she'd better figure on getting a good job. Some of those can have a pretty hefty appetite when they're grown. Dinner [dinner] Wink [;)]

Ryan, take care of that sore throat - our pastor at church on Sunday was running a fever with his, and just came out to give the message (so he didn't expose anyone else who might catch it from him. He said his wife's version lasted only 24 hours, but his had been building up. So better take care and get your fluids into you.

They had a guy in our area on the news tonight who has a dozen or more tractors that he works on to keep himself busy. He's basically an ORF (like a few in the Diner), so it gives him something to do with his days. Guess he doesn't have stock to tend to... Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Well, tomorrow morning is our primary elections - now I have to find out who's running on which ticket. Silly Missouri has this rule about you have to pick a party to vote for in the primary, unlike the November elections....Oops [oops] Guess I'd better get my smart sleep so I can vote against for the candidates of my choice.Wink [;)]

Prayers for wisdom for those voting tomorrow, and for healing and a good night's rest for those ailing.

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

I'm ready to give up, we were under a fog advisory all day, now we're under a severe thunderstorm watch. Check the radar and there's a line of thunderstorms across MO, IL and IN heading ESE.

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,

Another beautiful day down here in Paradise, Cool [8D]  but the heat is creeping up to the point where it may not be so beautiful (at least not for me) tomorrow.  We'll see.  Not much going on today.  Dentist appointments for Fran and I, but that was the most exciting thing that happened (outside of my nap).  Zzz [zzz]

Tomorrow promises to be a long day at the orange grove.  Hope it doesn't get as warm as they forecast.

Wow, what a great game yesterday.  Made even better, at least from my point of view, by being a win by the Giants.  That pass from Manning to Tyree will make highlight reels for years.  Big Smile [:D]

CG Jim:  That's a lot of tamales!
Not that many when you figure that between our house, my in-laws next door, and just the two sisters-in-law and their families who live close by there are 17 people.  They can go through a bunch of tamales in a short time.
How big is your town (and surrounding residents)?
Oooowww, tough question.  No good stats.  The whole "municipio" (county) supposedly has maybe 110,000-120,000.  The city itself I'd guess at maybe 60,000.  Hard to really tell.  Population density within the city is much higher than you'd see up north because lot size is tiny.

Ryan:  I haven't made them in years, but have had ones similar to those you spoke of. And they typically had pulled pork and peas and beans in them, which is very different from the typical Tex-Mex variety you see more often in the States.
Yeah, what they typically serve up there are the dryer style tamales (typical around Mexico City and the high plains area), cooked in corn leaf.  The ones we make need to be cooked in a folded banana leaf because the filling is a lot looser and would run out of a corn husk.  The dough is a coarse grind corn meal (coarser than what would be used to make tortillas) cut with lard.

I've seen ones with peas/carrots/ground pork as the filling, called "picadillo".  The ones that have black beans usually have the beans cut right into the dough, as opposed to a filling.  They also make ones filled with a sweet squash filling.

PC - congrats on winning the chili cookoff.  Thumbs Up [tup]

All the recipes you guys posted make my efforts look tame by comparison.

Lee - 3 gallons!?!  Guess that serves the whole party.  Shock [:O]

That's about it from down here.

Hasta mañana,

Ed

Does anyone remember a recent article about a "Modern Shortline"? It had plans to model it, with street running and harbor work. The real thing ran garbage trains, andf there was a picture of the street run  that was at such an anle the McD's in the background looked like the train was in the drive through. Abd one branch cut across driveways, that crews nicknamed the gauntlet. Pity I can't remeber anything more important, like the magazine... Could be Puget Sound, can't recall

Evening Gang: I went to see Tony today. He looked good and was able to talk so I could understand most everything. His kidneys are in bad shape and his liver is really shot. He isn't putting out the fluids. He needs to drink more water etc. I don't know how much longer he has. The big problem was that his TV control wasn't working. That was getting on his nerves. I got the nurse and they were going to get a service man to look at it.

I took the train again and rode the old RDCs. Actually I think that I like them better then the new Bombardier cars. The seats are more comfortable and the ride well. Once again I missed the train back to Ft Worth by about 5 mins. I went to the West End and had lunch. A real good burger at the YO Steakhouse.

PC: Congrats on the win. The chili looks good.

Rob I wish that I was closer so I could help you out. Hang in there.

Well I guess I'll sign out.

Good Night All

Evening, a barley pop please Cleo, Thought I'd stop in tonight since I'll probably be busy the next few days [hope not].

Still foggy here in the woods, has been all day, but you get out in the open and it's clear. Weather guesser at 5 give the humidity at a 100% and a dew point of 58, it's 50 here.

PC,, I'd go against in a chili cook off but can't give ya the recipe because I never measure anything other than the hamburger 1#, sausage 1# and about 1# of deer burger, a couple big jars of Mother home canned stewed tomatoes and 4 cans of chili beans, everything else is by taste.

RYAN,, hope your throat gets to better soon.

Best get my shower 3:30 comes early even for me, hopefully KC will take her afternoon nap so I can get one

in a SANTA FE mug tonight, please & thank you!

***Ryan, water has not been an issue since we bought those two big tanks. It was still the right call, as our well might well have gone dry long ago if it wasn't for catching and storing all that rain water. Now if the sun would just come out and grow some grass QUICK...gulp!

Wife went to the Doc today. BP is way too high so he put her on meds for it.
