St. Thomas----- sign us up! We stopped there for one day on our 25th year anniversary cruise and my wife found the perfect jewelry shop. It cost me $100 for each year we had been married but WELL WORTH it. The ships horn was blasting as we were running down the pier to get back on, great memories.

We stopped there on a Cruise to. My wife and I got married on the ship. Know what you mean about the shops though, could be a expensive tripWink [;)]  Won't be any problems getting the wifes or girlfriends to sign up though Wink [;)] I found a great bar, I needed a drink after picking up the bill at the shops LOL. Did not want to leave.

Chief, are you saying you think I'd rather be home playing with my kids and toys than hard at workShock [:O]Wink [;)]  YEP!  Doug, yeah I was on that Harry Potter thread early - can't wait!  I also have the HO Dewitt Clinton (or is is Clinton Dewitt?  I always seem to get it wrong).  I wish Lionel or MTH or someone would put that out in O gauge as well - not necessarily scale, but nicely proportioned for the track (for me).  Roads are reported to be terrible with ice under the snow, but sun is out now.  I'll take the kids out and we'll clear the driveway in a little bit.   More snow is coming this weekend, too.

Count me in for St. Thomas, It's been about 20 years and my wife would jump at the chance to go again.

Now for all you Sotherners here is what it looks like in PA today.

Back yard pictures.  The pond is pretty well hidden between the low bushes and the greenhouse.

The birds are making good use of the feeders.

During the night the snow changed to sleet/freezing rain and midmorning it changed back to snow.  The temps went form 16 about 2:00 AM to 32 early morning to 30 at noon.  Crazy weather.  Since my snow blower is not working, I am waiting for the grandsons to help out with tractor and shovels.

While it was sleeting and or raining this morning the 13 year old helped me install a couple sections of double track catenary.

Staying inside here.

I went to a PRR museum website today and there was a caption for a photo that said something like "We are closed today, we have to deal with some snow."

Chief,

Manchester....

We've got better beer, prices are half Londons, two of the best footy clubs in the world (if you like that sort of thing?), a working tramway system, high speed rail links, international airport, an hours drive from some of the finest scenery in the country, I could go on! Oh, seven minute train journey from Stockport.

St. Thomas?  Sounds good!

Wife and I went to Antigua for our Honeymoon last June and I'm running low on rum! Disapprove [V]

Just got in from shovelling the $h!7... it took 2+ hours to shovel a driveway about 50 feet long, 10 feet wide.  If I ever, ever, see the snowplow moron again he is toast!  Why on EARTH would you push snow up to 4 feet deep into someone's driveway?  Least he could have done was come back and offer to push it into the grass for $5.00...

Grrrr...

and no trains to run...

I need a new house!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jim - glad to hear Julia is doing better.

Hope Elliot gets good news...

Wonder if Laz is frozen in?

John, You backyard looks just like mine!  Except we have a 30 foot hill in our backyard that the neighborhood kids use as a tobbogan run... more like a bobsled run today!

Well I have to get a shower... taking the wife out for V-Day dinner since I couldn't get to the store to get filet... wonder what happened to her flowers...

During the blizzard of 1978, (5-10 drifts in the city) I discovered a city equipment operator cleaning his relatives driveway with a city owned front end loader.  After he and I had a brief discussion that involved alleged photographs of his kindness to his relative, he cleaned the whole street for me and my neighbors.   Wasn't that kind of him?  Whistling [:-^]

John B, I rather go to Manchester than London any day. Been working at a Hospital in central London just across the river from big ben. Just driving in is a battle and the £8 congestion chargeSad [:(]. In fact after droping the gear off on site the first day we travelled in on the tube from our hotel rather than drive in. And your right about the beer!

I bought a snowblower last year, in December...no snow after I got it home...

You really need one of these things....I can do our drive, and two other neighbors in about an hour.  Our drives are about the same size...and still come back in the house and not not be completely useless for the rest of the day.

The wind was too cold so I let the kids stay inside while I chipped and chopped and cussed the driveway mostly clean.  It's making me nuts that I couldn't get it all, but the tracks where my wife drove were really solid.  I've got some Excel 50 melting it for me right now.  I got to meet the neighbors' new puppy - 3 month old white terrier named Duff.  I used to work for a guy named Dan Duff!  Anyway, Chewy was not too happy when I came inside - I guess she could smell my infidelity?  She's moping on top of the couch right now.

My son has a doctor appt and then I think we're all going out to eat.  I want to stop at radio shack and buy some of the connectors Roy talked about too, then pick up some more Excel 50 for the weekend.

John B - how's your train set coming?  Where's Thor?

Kurt - I think I'll finally get a snowblower next year.  I recently read that the earths orbit is currently at the "roundest" part of the cyle and will begin moving out into a bigger and bigger elipse again, so more snow and colder temps.  Apparntly things have been pretty stable for about 7 years and going to shift.  Something about solar radiation as well.  Makes as much sense as anything I've read on the subject.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Brent, At least they plowed your street.  The road in front my house is just two ruts in what is now foozen solid ice/snow.  We live along a State road that is priority #1001.

For all you guys in the great white north, I heard on the radio today that Al Gore's movie about "global warming" was supposed to be shown at some college up that way.....They had to cancel it due to snowSmile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Jim, glad to hear Julia is on the mend.

Chief, we are heading to Macon next week for a meeting, then, we are going to Valdosta Georgia where they have a big amusement park that has "snow Days" where they set up snow making machines so the kids can see what snow looks like/feels like.  The snow may stay for a little while as it is supposed to go down to the 50's.

Not much happening in this neck of the woods, I am on call and we have a few critical patients that require a bit of tuning up.  I do hope to get some train work done, but must  do the Valentines day thing.  Already took care of the gift, cards, etc.  Was going to make a nice dinner, but did not like the quality of the meat and Salmon at the store.  Would rather go out than make a bad meal.

Y'all take care and stay warm.

HI GIZ,

OFF from school today,YEA!!  We got about 10 inches up here and still is snowing.  I snowblowed the ladies in the neighborhood today did 4 driveways and got brownie points from my principal.  Took dog for a mile walk, was like walking in sand.  The temp up here in Millersburg only got to 23 so most was snow and sleet.  Had to run on treadmill this after only did four miles.  I am betting with these strong winds that school is going to be cancelled tomorrow.  So that means running trains tonite.

Later.

Evening all!

Well, I'll keep my day job...while that storm wasn't exactly as they'd predicted it did dump about 6".  So much for my bypassing snowstorm prediction.  I'm ready for St. Thomas...or even the inside of a pub in Manchester.

Got bid out on the Philco Predicta this afternoon.  There certainly must have been some info on the reserve exchanged between the seller and the new owner prior to the auction ending.  My final bid of $300 ( with the reserve not met) got sniped by the winner to $750 (reserve met) within the last 20 seconds.  Crazy money for a 1958 B&W TV, eh?  Oh well, money better spent on train stuff anyway.   How's that for sour grapes? Wink [;)]

Been fiddling with an MTH tri-colour track signal with 2 signal boards.  The instructions are neatly tucked inside the box, tucked neatly inside a storage bin, tucked neatly up in the attic.  So I'm wiring by ear.  Did figure out that this thing has an internal automatic signal switch from yellow to green.  A pretty slick item when wired between 3 blocks of track.  Am I correct in assuming the top board indicates the signal for the straight through portion while the bottom board is for the diverging portion of the turnout?

Keep you stick on the ice!

Well, didn't exactly have the "romantic" valentines dinner I had hoped.  By the time I left the hospital and got home, then turned around to head to the restaurant, the place was packed.  Went to two more places and the same thing.  We ended up going to Waffle House and having dinner, including GRITS of course.  Nuthin says I LUV YOU like GRITS.  We plan to do a proper dinner Saturday.

Dennis

PS: Chief, if you go to "The Train-Station.com" on top of the auction site, they have  a link to a layout that they are doing.  Lots of similar ideas to yours, you may be able to get some other insights.  It is a nice looking layout, as is yours.

Good evening all,

It was sunny and cold today in SE Indiana with temps in the teens.  I stayed home again today as the roads were not plowed when I got up.  A lot of people from work stayed home as well.  Lucas and I went out and shoveled snow off the sidewalks.  He had to go to work, and I ran the MTH 384E tonight for a couple of hours while the wife watched an "Anne of Green Gables" tape.  It was a nice day.  I checked the main roads out this afternoon and everything looks clear to drive in tomorrow.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Kids are sad - have to go back to school tomorrow.  Me too!  Watched a dvd of Bye Bye Birdie - hadn't seen it since I was a kid!  Didn't go out to eat, since everything was so crowded, so I just made spaghetti.  Picked up 80 pounds of calcium chloride for the driveway - should last a few storms.  Also, I got two of those "euro" style 12 connection terminal strips.  I used them to hook up the wiring for my switches to the controllers and everything worked great - thanks Roy!  Chief, take it easy on that hand.  Hope Julia is continuing to improve and all you guys had great Valentines.

New computer up and running with a flat screen.  I sure is easier to read the screen. Big Smile [:D] One email address is running.

What a great winter storm!  When it comes to developing toughness, a good butt kicking blizzard puts man and machine to the test.  A few weeks from now we will be ducking for cover to escape the great tornadoes that will fire up with the thunderstorms.   Of course, the floods will kick in while the ground is still frozen, washing out bridges and roads, especially in Eastern Ohio near Blueberry Hill.

I sure hope I can get out and take some railroading in the snow photos.

See ya on the return trip,

This is a try at pasting into the coffee pot, and it worked. Next is an attempt to get pics. Heaven knows what I'll get up to when I really get the hang of it?

+12 here in a damp extremely mild Stockport. Not progressing much what with V day and taking beloved to Leek market, business was bad had to bring her home (your right she doesn't read this, thinks I'm potty).

Where is Lomas? Trouble is I am not able to fly at the moment, so I'll settle for the British LCC in Ilkley Yorkshire (gods county).

The Olympics are already 1,200million quid over budget and they haven't put a spade in the earth yet! My Lionel is still within budget, perhaps because I just haven't got stuck into the job

Yet.

Construction

Dennis, I should have the first pub pics. ready today.

Every one else, get well soon if you're poorly, keep digging if you're snowbound, get you're wires sorted if you're working on the layout and you all keep on training.

I always wanted a go on one of those Sears Craftsmen ride on mowers with snowblower attachment.....guess the novelty wears off though when some someone piles a 4 ft drift on your drive!

Good morning from a snowy New England!

I baled out of here yesterday at 11:00 and was glad I did. The roads were aweful and it was sleeting out. I'd say we ended up with 6" of snow here. Back to normal today? Julia seems better but is still not eating much. I got her to eat a PBJ last night though.

We had a romantic fire going in the den and my wife visited me in the train room for a while. A nice Valentine's Day surprise. Chinese food for dinner was great!

Have a nice day, all. And sincere thanks to all of you for your prayers for Julia.
