Sounds like a great trip, Roy!

Sir James, sorry - got busy on the 'Bay buying stuff for a niece for Christmas.  That is a big store!

This guy has some great accessories on a layout in back you can just see some of the details in the pic.  He had the Lionel Hobby Store where you can look look in through the windows and skylights and see all the little layouts and stuff.  Also had the Nuclear Reactor.  None of it was running, but like I said we got there just as they were getting ready to close I think.

Evening all!

So I go traveling for a week and look what happens! The Chief in a big cat suit? Gonna have to read up on that?

Had a great trip to NJ and NY this past week. Visited Walkers Hardware in Totowa, NJ. Great place and great folks! Visit them if you get a chance. A real hardware store with a train shop (and lotsa Lionel modern and PW trains) somehow filling every spare nook and cranny.

We were able to schedule a visit to the NJ High Railers GIANT layout in Patterson. Wow! A great undertaking and a lot of really nice folks showed up to welcome us and give us a tour of the layout. If you get the chance, go to one of their open houses. They also have the HBO Soprano layout and its backup (in case they had to reshoot the scene) on loan from HBO. The one from the finale even has the theatrical blood still on it

Got the Lionel Grand Central Terminal layout all set up and running in 1.5 days. Was able to do a lot of cleanup and refurbishing so it looks great! Even had time to add a signal to the upper loop so the operators can see when the loop is active and when it is "resting" the train (cool down period).

While we were up there, we also got a chance to go visit the old CRR of NJ passenger/ferry terminal in Liberty Park (NJ) and the Lackawana Hoboken Terminal. Classic architecture and a real treat to see these structures. The Hoboken Terminal passenger platform area is completely operational and uses the original train sheds. It gives one a feeling of how things were many years ago with trains arriving and departing every few minutes. The Winter Classic Trains has a nice article on the Hoboken Terminal. You cannot get to the ferry slips area as it is under renovation. The Tiffany skylight is absolutely awesome!

Well getting late. Hope all have a great evening!

Regards, Roy

Evening all,

Well the wife drafted me into helping with the outdoor Christmas decorations today.  We had a rather mild day and the wind of the past few days has died.  All done for the year and ready to light up.  Grandson mowed the lawn for the last time on Friday (I hope).

Now I have to get the layout shipshape for visitors over the holidays and set up my Christmas train.  And do a general housecleaning of the layout room and rest of basement. Sad [:(]

Chief makes a great FAT CAT!

Don, What size & impedence is the speaker you need?  I've got a few laying around.

Take care,

Yes, I am for real.  I do a lot of work at my computer, even though I am retired.  Due to my personality and a new interest in model trains, I frequent these forums a lot, although I almost never get to this one.    Some would say I have no life, but they haven't been so unkind as to actually type it out for me to see. Smile [:)]

Ogaugeoverlord, I can't account for internal communications with you and the other staff, but Bergie has taken on three of us to monitor the forums.  My instructions do not preclude me from responding to complaints in other fora, so I deal with whatever lands in the complaints forum (accessible only to moderators, and maybe staff?).  One such complaint originated in this thread.  Another way of saying this is that I have not been told, expressly, to restrict my function to model railroader fora, and this would make sense since all fora are subject to a bit of untidiness now and again.  You staffers can't always be here to help things along...so to speak. I am sorry my work here is news to you...I hope not unpleasant, though. Shy [8)]

Thanks Sir James - yummy!  Guys, I'll tell ya, it was a great store.  I'll bet it's the most O gauge trains I've ever seen in a room.  That's pretty much all they had!  We were running late and didn't get there until about 1:15 and they were scheduled to close at 2.  I think they were getting ready to close early when we walked in - oh well!  Laugh [(-D]  I spent $75 in no time at all!  Can't do that too often.

BTW - got the new Riddle Trackwork book today from Amazon - looks great at a glance, can't wait to read it.

Great pic Chief!

I wrote about 1000 words, but I deleted my own post.

Found a new "LHS" about 1/2 hour from my house.  My wife pointed out that they advertise in CTT and she knew about them all along - guess I missed it?  Anyway, I really liked the store and they have a TON of PW Lionel trains.  I picked up some gargraves with which to experiment and checked out some Ross Custom Switches.  Got some "Cedar" megasteam - remember that was recommended by someone.  Also picked up some fence for the farmyard and a lumber shed kit.  I noticed that the K-Line by Lionel Barn and Chicken Coop set was Supposed to include a tiny bag of windows and doors that was missing from the kit that I received.  I will be emailing TRAINZ shortly to see if they will send me just that little baggy or if I need to call Lionel or something.  Unfortunately, my daughter and I already glued together the barn and chicken coop, just missing those little details.

Sir James - all done painting?

He doesnt even have anything that distinquishes him as a mod, such as stars or "Forum Moderator" underneath his name. BTW, I believe selector is a major poster at either the model railroader forum or Trains forum. Not sure which though, so I'd doubt he would be a mod here either.....

Geez, and here I thought we were all adults here

I'm not sure what's going on here or who peed in who's cheerios, and frankly, I'm not inclinded to really care.

I'm just now figuring out what the anagram is, and I don't know what the big deal is.  If you're offended then I'm sorry, we can get over it and move on. Chief, John, Blueberry, Jim, Frank, et al..I've never met any of you in person and I may never do so.  I feel like you are all distant cousins and at least friends, we can hear about your days a small snippet of your lives, pain & pleasures.  The common thread is our hobby.  A good ribbing ain't a bad thing, provided you have a sense of humour.  Some have some don't.  I have been the butt of many jokes put downs, etc.  Maybe I'm tough skinned.  If they don't kid ya then don't love ya I was taught.

I don't know why some of you are leaving or going to leave.  I'm sorry yer going.  I wasn't brought up to have a snit then leave.  And I ain't askin' for a group hug, either.  Forgive and forget.  It's almost Christmas, so let's just start over.

And if I've offended you in any way, I'm sorry.  I tought we could all take a joke as I can.

(note the lack of emoticons, thank you!)

Sitll damp and 38 tonite.   The bucks did some slipping around at first but once they settled down all is well. To the Penn state folks, sorry but I had to go with Mich S. But I did not expect them to win. I'll take it though. No trains today unless looking at the F3 cab and decals count.

I will drop by later.,,,,,,,,Sir James

Anyone getting the G scale Polar Express? I like the concept of the disapearing hobo/ghost, do they also have the same car for the O gauge PE?

With the Hogwarts express and Thomas Trains and MTH coming out with the Orient express train we maybe seeing a new trend of Euro style trains being marketed here in the STATES, maybe this will bring down the prices of ACE and ETS trains(wishfull thinking)Sigh [sigh]

I would like to interject...please.  I am one of the moderators recently appointed.  I take my duties seriously, and as a person with an academic background in conflict analysis and management, I know that an interjection like mine in a forum (culture) with which I am not familiar may be unwelcome, misconstrued, or simply unhelpful.

That said, I have received one complaint related to this thread already.  It looks like more may come if your "issues" are not resolvable amicably and genially.  Most of this family of forums have a thread similar to this one, and it serves a purpose...clearly.  However, they do run their course, as do all things.  So, could I suggest you start anew?  I ask this because Bergie cut off a thread that had become too unwieldy for his liking in the modelling forum, and did it summarily when it was going well.  I would be loath to do the same to this thread, but when it was not going so well.

Do you see my point?  If the thread has grown tired, tainted, or to use terms I see in the latest posts, stale and cold, why not rejuvenate it by growing another in its place?

I do not invite you to engage me in a discussion about my message to you.  It would erode my ability to do what I may have to do with impartiality, so I would prefer to remain detached from the discussion in all ways but this message.  You folks sort it out as you see fit, but please find a way to restore this thread's decorum.  Otherwise it may have to go.

Respectfully,

-Crandell Overton

Edit - I will bump this to the top one last time near the time when the most regular visitors to this thread are likely to be able to view it.  I hope to be able to bump it one more time on Sunday so that my aim is achieved.  However, I reserve the right to lock it as soon as I sense that there is any exploitation of the potential lock with inappropriate tone or language, including personal or directed attacks.

Figure I'll weigh in...

Personally, as a relatively newer member, I've found this thread pretty useless and in fact kinda detrimental to my achieving what I set out to achieve by joining and participating in this forum.

TRAINS is the only thing I log in for...Way too much other stuff going on in here, and even when trains do get discussed in this thread, who wants to dig through all the "Peyton Place" episodes to read about them?

I feel all the other threads are starting to be less train related too as the "Coffee" spills over into those threads too.

My suggestion:  kill this baby before it gets too ugly; and all you old timers with the mondo post histories start posting some good old fashioned classic toy train operating and collecting stuff.  If you're fresh out of ideas take a break from the forum for a couple weeks and play with your trains then come back.
