I have two brother in-laws in Colorado and they live & die with the Bronco's. In Iowa we have the Hawkeye's, Cyclones and Panthers and the following for those teams is just tremendous. Obviously we have no professional teams except for the triple A Iowa Cubs who command huge crowds in the summer so the emphasis here is college sports.

I am a big baseball fan and I really enjoy following the Twins & the Cubs. What really bothers me about professional sports however are the out of control salaries and the out of control ego's AND the outrageous price of a soda or beer at a game. I'm glad our kids are on their own now, when we used to go to Twins games it was affordable and great fun. I don't know how young families can afford those games, the beauty of the Iowa Cubs is the price of a ticket and being able to see players on their way up and often time rehab stints. We have quite a stack of autographed BB cards of young players who made it big.

Whenever we travel in the summer we try hard to see a major league game somewhere but it is becoming less important to us as this whole thing is spiraling out of control, IMO. Talk about greed.

Sir James, I took the daughter out on a "date" and had Culvers for dinner, so of course had to get frozen custard for desert!  Time for something salty!  Drop on over and have some chips (baked) or these new grain chips my wife bought that have tomato in them - actually very good!

Doug - good luck on the car.  My cousin lived in Chicago area for years and also took train, only really used car from house to train and back.  He inherited his mom's old car and drove it until the roof literally rusted through, then kept right on driving it with a piece of carpeting glued down over the top to replace the rag top - I swar, it was hilarious!  Hope your wife's post with the patriotic poem got a lot of viewers, it was great!  The stories about your child getting his head stuck in a potty and the other about the Disney toy ploy had me laughing and crying at the same time!  Great blog!

Well, just got back from picking up the sick little car. I will be taking the advice to look at something newer. I will see how long I can baby it to the train station and back but the daughter's not going to be driving it anymore. This must be Buckeye's revenge. Wink [;)]

John, you're still playing HS football? Wow! HS basketball season just starting here.

OK folks, but consider two points, and I mean consider for a moment, don't just react:

1. Just suppose that a member had posted something about the imagined academic shortcomings of, let's say Ohio State; or maybe North Carolina State, just to pick a couple of schools at random? Perhaps you wouldn't have found it so amusing if it had been your ox that was being gored. Many people can dish it out but can't take it. You can easily spot them because they hide behind momma's skirts at the first sign of someone standing up to them.

2. If it's not "appropriate" to post a rebuttal to an offensive post, why is it OK to post the offensive remarks in the first place? There''s a whole lot of hypocrisy goin' on; but as long as all the good ol' boys hang together, everything will be just fine.

Think about it, and then everybody have a great weekend.

Thanks foir the "heads up".  I listen to my XM [free] but wife had been on FM on local station as Christmas music 24/7.  We will now switch back.

Finished my FAT CAT this afternoon.  Dressed up in a cat suit more like Clemson Tigers suit.  Hugged the kids and got pictures taken with them.  Did that from 3 till 5:15 as lots of kids.  Fat Cat is a special kids account with the State Employees Credit Union.  Kids get their own statement and etc.  Helps teach them to save and how to do banking.  The "ladies" at Roseyville CU talked me into it.

Got Lionel forklift station wired and working.  Now tying up wires to insure room for tubs under layout.  Gettting lots of rolling stock unboxed that has never been opened.  Fed the deer and it is turning cold.  Later.

Oh this is too easy...rt?!...Jumijo?!

Well, made it so far.  Gotta busy weekend ahead.  ON call till Monday.  We have a Indian festival here at Chehaw park as this is a fairly large Indian population.  It should be interesting for the kids and I usually get some new tid bit of information I had not known about....I'm a history buff too.  WE also have the Disney Princess on Ice show, Church, and eventually Train time.

Well I hope everyone has a great weekend and some have some time to cool off.

But by the Grace of God I go,

Dennis

Evening guys,

Temp is now 38 and dropped 2 degrees in about 20 minutes, headed looower.  Wind blowing about 20 mph.  Wife is heading to the HS football playoff game, I chickened out tonight.  (She is a lot younger than I) Wink [;)]  Not a lot of train activity, I might set up my Christmas train this evening, have to decorate an engine and get the hopper cars filled with candy for the grandkids.  The newly installed catenary may get some action as they reach in to grab the candy. Whistling [:-^]  Still working on the dollhouse for GD #3.  Target date for finish is Dec. 18 so it has a week for paint to harden, before it gets a lot of use.  Need to start dying shingles soon.

Don, How about some progress pictures on the layout and control panel.

Doug,  sounds like time to go car shopping, have you looked at the hybrids? I'm not sure you save any money over the long term, but at least more of it stays home or with the good guys instead of going to Saudi Arabia to help fund the terrorists.

Guess I have rambled on long enough,

Take care,

Yankees, NY Giants, NJ Devils...no use for basketball either, very boring to me.

I dunno why some people get offended.  Really don't care anymore.  It's like TV...you don't like it, change the channel..GOD knows there are enough of 'em.  This used to be a good time place.  Confused [%-)]Sigh [sigh]

Doug, glad you can still see...bet you didn't want to after "seeing" that repair bill!!Shock [:O]

Sometimes, ya just gotta say WTF (ya know that old Chicago saying, like the U-Boat commander quip).  How much cash are you gonna throw into a 12 y/o car?  Maybe something newer...but then those payment$$$$$!.  I feel for ya my brotha.  Until my company car, I was driving a '76 Aspen Wagon (which, I only use on Sundays..1/4 mile at a time, of course!)

What I'm asking is; Please e-mail me the info again. Thanks.

John B, No problem I'll re-send the info. I want to re-write a bit of the "how to guide" on earthing the inverter and add a bit of info. I got from Chris on powering up some of the newer versions of the Aims pure sine inverters. I am working a fair bit this weekend but I'll try and get it to you for Monday. Gritters are out here to. Had to clean the frost of the Van windscreen this morning. Just a tad chilly.

I bet the guys at ACE are looking over there shoulders at what Lionel can do for £112!(+Vat and shipping of course)

Wow !!  Even on a forum, we need to be careful of ticking someone off, because we didn't all go to the same schools.   I have an idea.....

To ensure we are all "Politically Correct" lets ban all capital letters.  That why we won't have any referrance to pronouns (I think that's correct).  Then we don't have to worry about car names, schools, states, cities, train manufacturers, or anything else specific.

Even the trains we talk about, that new Big Boy (whoops) big boy can become the 4-8-8-2 eng w/big tender.  And, we can stay generic on car types too.  Just describing the car function.

I sure am glad I was born when I was, I don't want to be around here in another 30 years the way things are going.  Everyone will have the same shape car, and color, same cookie cutter house, same approved hobby, read the same newspaper, watch the same tv show, and have the same opinion.  Boy, won't that be grand.  And nothing to discuss, or maybe the same conversation with everyone, sharing the same opinon.SoapBox [soapbox]

In total agreement with you. College sports are not very big up here at all. We dig the pros. The Red Sox are THE sports team here 12 months a year, followed by the Patriots. This season, the Celtics are starting to gain some attention with their perfect start. But they are way down the popularity ladder. The Bruins aren't even on the radar.
