Been a long day - worked on income taxes, did some laundry.  Fixed homemade taco salads and baked potatoes.   After dinner we finished up the benchwork on my layout expansion.  All secured now and have the foam board in place.  Already had the track plan drawn out so started putting it together.  Of course, being the typical female, I changed my mind (I am entitled to do that you know!) and rearranged it.  Twice.  Now I am happy!  Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

I was planning on a 3% grade but am trying to go for a 4% Question [?].  Somebody double check my math here.  My total rise needs to be 6" for my tallest car.  This is over 150" of run.  Opinions??Suggestions??

I have a couple of friends who retired and are traveling in their RV somewhere in Florida.  They usually call us on Friday night but we didn't hear from them tonight.  Please add them to your thoughts and prayers along with all the others who were affected by the severe weather in Florida last night.

Have a great weekend y'all!

Cheif, Just heard the news about the big blow in FLA. This bit of the UK sends sympathy and hopes for a rapid return to normal for you all who have/are suffering at the hands of nature at her worst.

Bright frosty, sunny here in Stockport.

Nick, Lisa, Underworld, Marmite is the English equivalent of Veganite (which I believe is Australian). I don't think I could possibly find a worse thing to eat than grits (oat cake) or wheatabix spread with the awful stuff, I'd liken it to a door mat caked in Kangaroo ess aitch one tee.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a very cold 1 degree outside. But sunny. Going up to only 23 degrees today, with a chance of snow flurries later.

Today is a normal chore day. Later this afternoon, I will spend a few hours in the train room. I have to take a day and dust all of the engines and cars. Some of them look good. I also have to clean the track. Been doing that , one loop at a time. Need to lub a couple of squeeky cars.

Everyone must be sleeping in today. Dining Car just rolled in, full of goodies. Time for breakfast. Be back later.

Y'all have a great Saturday.

If you have somewhere to bring it in it would be better but if you could do a small heater and set it low (one that has a tip turn off device just in case) would probally be fine too. I love cats but strays normally not use to in the house and may have accident. Put a blanket and a litter box and it should be fine in the garage. You have adopted a cat

Morning all.  Hope all the gang in FL is OK.  Frank [Frank53], Lee [Phillyreading] and [senior moment, forgive me] should be out of that destruction area.  Hope so anyway.  Flying into Orlando on the 15th for a weekend at Bass Pro Shops.  Lisa, Raleigh Train Fan, and Dewey, TCA train meet at Fair Grounds next Saturday morning.  Got to miss as Roseyville is having Town Board retreat. Disapprove [V]  Off to Miss Edna's [Todd's Train Depot] after some coffee and stuffed sausage biscuits.

Yankees are trying to invade the South.  Suppose to get down in the teens and one day this coming week, never get above freezing. Shock [:O]Disapprove [V]  We will drive them back Nawth.  We have a battle plan.  We will let the Yanks come deep into the South with their cold air while we hold up in our warm trenches.  They will be too far from their supply lines.  After the Yanks have a few days of cold and no food, we will come out with bowls of hot GRITS and they will take their cold temps and retreat Nawth. Mornin' boys, and of course Ms. Lisa .  If you are using locomotives with speed control (like Proto 2.0) you shouldn't have too much problem.  My engines are required to loop around an O-42 curve and climb 5 3/4 inches in 11 feet, and the crews have yet to climb out of the cabs and give me the what-fer!

Spank - are you going to do the Funky col' Medina when you go?

rtraincollector - that appears to be a 3 Tweetie  a day kitty...

Bakeer - Mornin' English.  Will you be watching our big "footy-ball" game tomorrow?  We can't use the term "Super Bowl" without paying the NFL a royalty, and they seem to have suits everywhere...

CHIEF - are those the grits left over from ANDERSONVILLE?

dbaker48 - hey, we didn't get a report from your trek to Burbank.  Did you pick up that Gucci mink car & corral...?Cool [8D]

good morning - no effect here - although we have had our fair share of rain, which keeps me from having to pay to top off the swimming pool.

Chief - thanks for the note.

Hope all, most especially our other Florida friends, are safe and well.

Hi Lisa

Congratulations on getting the benchwork in and the trackplan set. You are right, a 150" Run will get you a 6" Rise @ 4% grade. I believe you have experience in cutting rafters and installing stairways---Rise'n Run.

Good morning everyone,

I had a bunch of friends up last night, and we talked and watched tv until about 12AM. I haven't seen them much because of school, so it was nice to hang out with them for a while.

Well, in a few minutes, I'm going to board a train and go into Philly. My dad and I are going to the Philadelphia International Auto Show. Lots of pics to follow.

I hope everyone has a good day.

Miss Lisa, when it comes to track plans and layouts, I think all of us change our minds from time to time.  It sounds like you are really coming along in your hobby.

Fifedog, Andersonville is but 30 minutes north of me.  If you want, I can see if they have spare accomodations for any visiting yankees.  FYI, Andersonville is a neat place to visit.  It also has a large cemetary and hosts the Nationel POW museum.  It humbles you to visit especially when they have special events and some former POWs are there.  They have some interesting stories, and I never miss the opportunity to introduce my kids to some Real Heros.

Did some cleaning this morning as we have some friends visiting.  Though I want to not have any visitors for a little while (so I can get the layout done), these friends we have not seen in some time and they are just entering the adoption process and want to ask the ins/outs of getting through the process.

Hope y'all have a great day and for those in FLA, I echo the above prayers and concerns.

God Bless,

Dennis

Thanks. Denny, I'll keep that in mind.  Most civil war battlefields are within a 3 hour drive for me, and I've visited most of them (Valley campaign that is).

Live from Roger's Corners,

Its Saturday Morning!!!

Very concerned this morning about all of our friends in Florida.  Buckeyes know what tornadoes can do.  In the past we have had total towns destroyed.  Our prayers are with the people of Central Florida this day.

Frank53, glad to see that you are okay.  Smile [:)]

It is cold  with a clear blue sky today.  The temp at 7 am was about 4 degrees.

Lisa, I have a 3% grade and I have a Lionel FT TMCC/RS w/o cruise diesel that can pull a B unit dummy, an A unit dummy, boxcar,  and six passenger cars up that grade. Clean track is the number one issue.   The cruise control diesels can pull almost anything up the grade, if the track is clean.  If I had to do it again, I would max out at 2%.

I too have been to Andersonville.  It is hallowed ground.

Looking into buying a new computer.  The old one is now going on ten years.

The camp in Canada called today and they want the deposit for this summer fishing trip.   Only four months until we leave for the bush.

Church directory photos today.  I thought about wearing an outfit similar to, but larger than the one you see in my photo to the left of this post.  Mrs. Buckeye said, "Over your dead body!"  Shock [:O]

Looking forward to running some trains this pm.  Successful train running on the Baltimore, Ohio and Wabash is measured the same as it is on Laz's layout.  No pile ups are good and those who have been to Roger's Corners know exactly what I'm talking about!!! Isn't that right Chuck, Wes, Tom, Greg and the Chief?

Colin, how many of those friends were females?  Smile [:)]

Mornin' all.  Chilly but warming briefly here in northern NC.  Thanks guys for checking my math on the grade.

DEWEY:  Rafters?  Nope- just the kind that were already built.  Tho my husband has made several  risers for outdoor steps.  You heading for the hills this week?

FIFEDOG:  Hmm... I've got 36" s-type curves over 12.5".  We'll see.  May have to stretch it out and back down to a 3%.

CHIEF:  Good plan for the Yanks!  Hey, email me more info on the Train Meet.

Keep warm everyone!

Good Morning from St. Paul, MN where the actual temperature is -13 as I type this and the wind chills are -30.........., not the best timing for a visit to our son's home but that's OK.  Time to head to the IMS motorcycle show and the train store, III Rail train in Coon Rapids.  It used to be a K Line super store and I haven't been there for over a year, hope he's still there.

Morning all,

Looks like we are about to pay for all the mild weather we have had so far this year. Next several days to have lows near zero & highs in teens or low 20s. Brrrrrrrrrr. Hope the greenhouse heaters can keep up and that I can afford the gas / electric.

Colin,  It sounds like your dad is on the mend, that's great.

Our thoughts and prayers are with those in Florida that suffered loss.

Been working on some layout project on the bench.  Need to get some things done to clear it off.

Jon, Your temps make it sound warm here in PA.

First, Hope Florida is on a speedy recovery, and the weather isn't too severe for everyone else.

Regarding the trek to Burbank, a couple of interesting items.

- Delivered the paper to the Academy (they use it for all the signs, photos, and banners).  Talk about security, vehicle inspected, identification checked, metal scanners everything.  Actually delivered to the Mary Pickford Theatre and Museum.   The Academy maintains vaults for storage of the original films.  The vaults are huge and they are independent, the building takes up a city block. The films in storage date back to the 30's and 40's.  Did get invited back for a guided tour after the awards.   Then drove by WB studios, that place is huge as well takes up a couple sq miles.

- The train store was very well stocked, exclusivly trains.  A relatively small section for HO and N, primarily all O.  Of course G was elevated.  Nothing marked with prices, but the few things I checked were all at MSP or higher.  I bought a couple of magazines that was it.  They gave me a copy of the new Lionel catalog.

Hope everyone has a great week-end.

Good morning from a cool Crystal Lake where it is 18 below - brisk wind and blowing snow. 'Course I headed out to my men's group at 7 this morn. Going to move an old TV from the top floor into the basement - wish my back luck. Good day to spend in the basement - trying to avoid doing taxes...

We have four, no, five cats that all started as strays showing up at the door. My bride fed one outside for almost two years before it trusted her enough... the dog and I just shake our heads...

Good morning from sunny and cold Dallas. Low was in the 20's last night. High today about 40 or 45, then another front hits and back below freezing tonight.

Cleaning up around the house today. Salvation Army picked up son'd old furniture yesterday and that got a lot of clutter out. Got to buy him a new mattress this weekend. He is on the floor with an air mattress. I think he likes it that way. Dog does too - no effort to get onto the bed.

Daughter stuck all day for the HS musical rehersals. Started at 9 am and out at 8 pm - one 30 min break for lunch.

Regards, Roy

Hey ya'll from the northeast Florida bunker.

Had a lot of wind and 2 inches of rain, so the real bad weather missed us here.  Now its in the 40's and makes the recovery back to the west more difficult.  I've done search and rescue before and I know its no fun, especially with wind cold and rain going on.

Sun was in and out today.  For the Southerners its a biting cold, not very pleasant.

Had to get the wifes vehicle maintanance completed today, so tomorrow it's replace the brake pads day.

Maybe I can get some track planning in tomorrow, after the brakes and the carb swap on the racecar.

Have a good rest of the weekend, stay warm and especially, safe!
