Vegemite is the favorite snack for Men at Work Cool [8D]  I read a novel years ago where this guy and his crazy friend are trying to open a restaurant.  They want to have unusual breakfast cereals and for some reason they think it's illegal to bring Weetabix into the U.S., so the buddy drives to Canada and loads up the car, spending money like crazy (including on a rare book).  In the end, they find that Weetabix is available at the local supermarket!  The villain of the book is a man named Pennyman.  Based on the book, I started looking for this wonderful cereal and eventually found it - in the health food aisle!  It's basically shredded wheat.  Very good with a bit of sugar and milk!  I'm going to go buy some this weekend and try with Splenda.  I've heard of Marmite - I think it's a sandwich spread loaded with vitamins or something?

Snowed today and COLD, but got to work okay.  Had a catered lunch from Hodaks - fried chicken with cornmeal batter, mashed potatos, gravy, corn, french fries, and folks brought in brownies and cake Dinner [dinner]

Buckeye - good luck.  My friend Randy had that last year and showed me the bruises when it was done.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Jim Have you tried vegamite? I first heard of it too from Men At Work. Although I remember seeing Colin Hay (the lead singer) on David Letterman back then and he said it was "God awful stuff". He said it was a spread made from the goo at the bottom of a beer fermentation tank.

JIM,

Would that happen to be a VEGIMITE SANDWICH?  From about 1982-83?Men at Work?  Listened to it while doing archi drawings.

Jim,

I was curious if that was what your were doing.  That's why I started a new thread regarding the comments.  I didn't want to add to that thread and make it too long.

Buckeye:  Those stones are mighty rough!  I've had 4  - but was "lucky" enough to pass them within a few hours.  Had a 8lb 13oz baby which wasn't as bad and I'm telling you THAT WAS NOT EASY!  (Sorry guys, you have no idea what that's like!)  My son has had 2 of those bad boys and he's pretty tough but they put him on the ground in a heartbeat!

Well, our weathermen/women have egg all over their faces - They all missed this one.  Supposed to have gotten 3-5 inches of the white stuff and all we had was a dusting- which was gone in an hour after it stopped.  Now it's just a nasty cold drizzle.  Stayed home today and worked on the dreaded taxes.Confused [%-)]

Good Friday morning from New England!

It promises to be another busy day here at work. I will most likely be here tomorrow as well.

No train running last night. The wife was home and her sister was over for dinner. I did stop at the train store on the way home and got the Lionel and K-Line catalogs. Was disappointed to see the store's price sheet. Usually they discount the MSRP a lot better than what they are this time.

The guy at the store said I might need a new board for our starter set 4-4-2. An easy, inexpensive fix. I'll open it up tonight and see what's what.

Have a good day, all.

Mom gets those pretty often for some reason.  She drinks a lot of tea.  She would never let on to how painful those are to pass, but I'm sure they are.  Good luck!

Lisa, oh, I would love to pass a stone in a few hours!  The last time the first attack hit, I was in Lafayette, IN.  I headed to the emergancy room, given drugs and somehow got myself home to Ohio.  The next attack hit four days later when I was in Nashville, TN.  Same procedure except I had to fly home on a Sunday.  The stone didn't pass until Monday afternoon after I had drank a big glass of lemonade.  A quick passing would be a blessing.  When they just move a little bit, is when you can be put to the ground.

Happy Groundhog's Day!!!!

See ya down the tracks.

Does anyone have a source for 18 or 24V incadescent bulbs, bayonet base, #1445?  The LED replacement types are too blue for heavyweights.  I've tried Walthers, Radio Shack and All Electronics without any luck.

Buckeye - hope all comes out well.

Good morning all,

It is snowy and not so cold this morning with temps in the 20s in SE Indiana.  I better post quickly so I can send the dining car to "Points East".  I ran the 8E for a while last night.  I never had a kidney stone, but I have known some people who have and it was no picnic for them.  Good luck, Buckeye, with getting rid of it.  RT, a belated birthday wish and hope you have many more.  Lisa in NC, a belated welcome to the "pot".  We are kind of a motley crew, but it is good bunch of people to hang out with.  MartyE, I know what you mean about sometimes not knowing what to say.  I try to read all the posts, but ever since they changed the software and made it so you can't scroll back to read the posts while writing, it does make it hard to comment on what people say.  I guess I could have two windows open, but still....  Also, with two windows open, it gets kind of drafty :-).  I hope everybody has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cold 28 degrees. Snow flurries. Going up to 32 today. More snow flurries expected. Roads are good, so far.

Today, I have a few things to do around the house. Maybe later, I will go down to the train room and work on the layout for awhile. A few hours every day seem to be working out fine. Have to do some dusting of cars. The bridges will really look nice, when finished.  Still have to paint the bridge from 100 Year Co. I think Blueberry Blue is the pick. What else?

In rolls the Dining Car and it's time for breakfast. Later.

Y'all have a great Friday.

Morning all!

Happy Porcupine Day!  Gormley Gerty, our prognosticating Porcupine saw her shadow this morning so we predict 6 more months without TMCCII.

Speaking of bad weather predictions, Lisa....this reminds me of the snowstorm that never materialized.  The next morning on the news the anchorwoman turned to the weatherman and asked, " What happened to that 8 inches you promised me last night?"  It took a while before the news crew could collect themselves enough to continue working.

Bruce,
That is just priceless!!!

We were supposed to have snow storms, turning to freezing rain and snow this morning... roads were just slightly damp... yet everyone was driving 10-15 mph under the speed limit!  Good thing the left lane was fairly open!

Long day ahead of me... we have been approved for the loan, now we are waiting to hear from the foreclosure bank if they accepted the offer... I hate waiting... Maybe I should stop by the massage parlor on the way home for a relaxing massage... too much tension...

RT - got your email... sent you a reply.

Morning all,  Lisa, one time when I lived in Columbus, GA, they had all the parents pick up the kids at 10am as they thought it was going to snow, never did.  Boy did that create a lot of problems in the hospital, all the nurses with kids having to leave at the same time.

Jim, tell all the brownies that to start your day off with a large bowl of GRITS and they should be alright!Dinner [dinner]

Not much going on today.  A little slow on the surgery schedule, so I have plenty of time to catch up with y'all's posts.  A bit chilly down to 45F this morning, but going up to the mid 60's.  Hope everyone is doing well and that those in the GREAT WHITE NORTH are getting along OK.  I did find a source for the "Modern Era" Greenberg book.  Got it for well under $30.  A good bit less than the $244. best price when done with Google.

Anyway, hope everyone has a great day.

Well I was really bored at work yesterday so I threw this together... just a rough rendering of what I am contemplating for the new house train room...

--- Click slightly to the right of the image and it will blowup in a new window... you can then click the other image and it gets bigger. ---

The RR Yard is self explanatory...

The 6 track 'yard' is going to be a passenger station - very large... each loop will have its own 'Express' track with two sidings to get to their area of the station.

The yellow line is a two trolley line... but now that I have see the SuperStreets video that may change...

The blue line is a logging train line.

There are two two track bridges in the background over the river and a single track bridge in front of the double bridge, slightly lower.

The mountain line would be 16 inches above base, most of the track would be at grade 0", the mainlines would attain a maximum height above grade of 8", no uphill grades greater than 3% and no downhill grades greater than 2%.

There will be a town between the passenger station and the lake, to the right of town will be a mountain in the background and a large oil field in the foreground.  There will be another mountain in the rear left corner, with farm land in the foreground to the left of town.

The turntable will be removable to provide access to the yard.  The 4 long spurs off the turntable will be covered by a scratch built roundhouse.

Nope, edited the first post so others would know how to work it! Smile [:)]

There is a lot of track, but also a lot of free space for scenery, buildings, and accessories.

I wanted to be able to run 2 - 3 trains on the mainlines at a time, that is going to be difficult with the single mainline around the yard, but we will see...

Good morning from a cool Chicago where it is 4 below. What is this talk about a little dampness, icy roads, and dusting of snow elsewhere - I think I now know what the inside of the freezer of the refrigerator feels like - made the mistake of wearing 'normal' shoes this morning - may my toes thaw by noon. I wish one of you guys lived next door and could saunter over and look at my layout.

Sometimes I think I'm making a big wiring or electrical mistake just because I'm misinterpting something I read or am just ignorant about...

I had that feeling after running trains last night - when one of my sidings appears to not work. Rats. I was also fiddling with enhancing the traction of the Rail Zepp. All my extra traction tires are too big. Maybe I'll get some rubber cement. It sure 'flies' around the layout with that clockwork motor but still hangs up on a far curve when it starts to wind down. Then I use the youngest to crawl back and get it - he loves it. No pileups though. Bear Down! I like that double-trolley line, lionroar.
