Evenin' boys.  Back on daywork.  Tough cold day here in the Mid-Atlantic.  Had to burry one of our boys fromt he city today up in the gardens.  We gave him a proper send-off though.

Made an excellent purchase on a 6 car set of Lionel aluminum C&O passenger cars (6-19145 thru 150) from a dear friend, and they look just like the train the South Branch Valley runs, behind my B&O 6604.

88 - careful on the Chessie  F units.  That road didn't paint any in the yellow-blue-vermillion.  They had WESTERN MARYLAND  F's well into the Chessie era.  Most of the F's were traded in on second generation units (GP40-2's).

I'm not a fussy eater Laz.  Doc Holliday's is good for steak, there are a bunch of the chain restaurants around PBS so just pick one and it will be OK with me.

Don't ask me why, but this just popped into my head.

I was off yesterday and watched Superman Returns... not a bad flick... they changed some stuff I don't agree with, but that isn't why I am posting this...

In the movie Lex Luther and his cronies attempt to recreate a miniature version of Superman's Crystal cave. They take a chip off one of the crystals and toss it into water on an O-Gauge RR! What I wouldn't do to have the layout in my basement! Of course the layout gets destroyed as the crystals grow!

Any one ever seen a layout plan for that layout?

Sent you another with my email address in it. For got my email button on bottom doesn't work

The email address you sent, doesn't work.  Comes back unknown.  Sorry.  Answer to one question:  March 22 thru 25, Bass Pro Shops in Harrisburg PA.  PA gang and are will be going to some restaurant to meet for a meal.  Only "hitch", may have to train West Marine managers that weekend in Baltimore.

Morning all.  Cloudy and warm.  Suppose to turn cooler by afternoon.  Hope to do additional wiring on layout and then go to Miss Edna's and pickup some straight track to make the loops go to the back of the walk-in.  Wish switches were here.  Chat later.

BTW: Asked our friend Bob to lock the "Stop the Chief" thread.  Thought it was pretty good with Frank53's picture.  Just use Coffee Pot or Sunday Photo to post changes.

But I have some of that special 'make it work' dust, so that could explain it... and I don't share the 'make it work' dust, so don't bother asking!  Oh and it only works on computers, not trains! Disapprove [V]

Jon

To quote from a famous movie we all know and love ( A Christmas Story )  "Go ahead, Jon!  I dare ya!  I double dog dare ya! Wink [;)]

Good Morning from the Great White North.  I have to admit, I was hoping we wouldn't see any snow at all this winter.  My dreams were dashed yesterday but all in all it wasn't the storm they predicted.  A far cry from the 6-7" of snow we were supposed to get.

One of the more expensive locos in my roster is a Lionel #18071 SP GS4 Daylight from 1998.  From the beginning it's been a dissapointing engine due to the number of inaccuracies it has.  Well, I finally discovered why it's such a poor representation of a GS4.  In reality this engine is a modified N&W J!  It's main body is a postwar 746 with added side skirting and nose modifications to make it look like a GS4.  Even the tender is from a 746 and looks nothing like the original GS4's other than they replaced the coal load with a deck to represent a fuel oil carrier.  Ad to this the fact that the paint job from the engine to tender doesn't line up ( a full 1/4" off ) and you really get the impression that this was a real factory hack job.

If I wasn't concerned about messing up a loco in excellent condition it would be easier to return this Hienz 57 to it's J configuration then to modify it into an accurate representation of a GS4.  For now it'll remain as is, one of the ultimate in Lionel factory interpretations.  Oddly, I somehow feel better about owning such a wierd engine.

A frantic morning here at work. A hot water pipe burst one office over from me. The occupant, a fellow toy train buff, wasn't in yet. Water everywhere. We formed a bucket brigade until a plumber could be found.

I forgot to mention, but this weekend, I shot some short videos of our layout on my daughter's disposable video camera. But no one here would want to see any thing like that, right? I didn't think so.

I goofed!  Sign - Oops [#oops] Sorry about that, I posted after that fantastic sign picture.  I tried to go back and delete my post but it was too late.

Survived the weekend, was not a very good show this post people probably watching the game or just staying home.

Decided to take yesterday off work, need at least 1 day off every two weeks.  So was sorting some stuff and found 3 sound upgrades marked for "O gauge Steam", don't remember what I had in myind when they were purchased

Got to resolve some issues with the El Camino upgrade going on,  we got some door and rocker panels to add some flair.  Company A sells them, recommended Company B to install, Company B did some work, and uses Company C for painting.  Company C says they don't fit.  Company B doesn't have resolution with company A.       I am totally confused !! More like January here now, overcast flurries and 32.  Need to fire up the heater in the garage today.

Bought a couple of roofs off the bay for a 752 Seaboard Coaler I have repaired and needed roofs.  Going to work in the garage and study today.  Take care all

Good morning from a frigid Chicago where winter is back and I'm working late tonight - still no lights in the Metra station parking lot - it's been a week. It's so dark you can't make out the parking slot number. Have to call Metra and the city again this morning. Boy, I like chatting with conductors on my commute. They're UP (or former C&NW) employees who bid on the passenger jobs. Have lots of great stories. No ice storm like to the west and south of us, just a few inches of snow.

Instead of watching TV last eve, I moved some track around to prevent side-swipes I've had when the parallel tracks are both occupied with moving trains. I also swapped out a piece of track with a raised middle rail (looks like it had been squeezed with a pliers) that was occasionally derailing a car or scoring a roller. I think I'm running too close to the 'edge' of my foam boards in the back of the layout. Fortunately, the GG1 is so heavy it finds all these track problems. Since I don't tack down my track, I have issues just like the real railroad with it shifting.

The youngest is fine, Jim. Thanks for asking. Just a 24 hr. bug.

Hey everybody, greetings from North East Florida (or, if you wish, South East Georgia...)

This is the last of the "nice" days this week.  High about 72, now is 65.  Tomorrow high of 56.  "Bout time ol' man winter showed up!!!

Yesterday another fun filled day in the automotive retail world.  Really got busy with inventory and scheduling vehicles to be moved to another lot.  2 1/2 more days 'till I fly home.  Really can't wait, looks like it'll be cold when I arrive.

Have a good one, it's time to hit the ground (running) again!

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

The rain has turned to snow. It is 34 degrees and still dropping. It will go down to 31 today with a few snow flurries.

Today, I have to run a couple of errands. The ground is still warm, so it looks like the snow is melting. Tonite will be very cold. Roads may be nasty tomorrow. Run errands today and stay inside tomorrow.

I worked on layout yesterday for about 3 hours. Cut hole in wall for new upper loop. Came out good between 2 studs. Switches should be here today. Then, I have to cut some track.

Chief...Glad to hear you folks checked out good at the Doctor's.

Looks like a full Dining Car is here and ready. Breakfast.

Y'all have a great Tuesday.

Good morning all,

It is snowy and cold in SE Indiana with temps in the 20s today.  I pulled a Chief and set up a floor layout yesterday to run the 10 E with a few passenger cars.  I talked to some people about some quotes on a new garage door and I went to the YMCA as well.  The drive in to work was not too bad this morning.  I am glad to the exam for the Chief went ok.  "Points West" is pulling out of the station and heading east with the dining car for Blueberry Hill.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Laz, RE: 0-8-0,  Luckily that's I problem I haven't had with mine.  When its in the lurching stage does the headlight stay bright or does it flicker?  As you probably know flickering is a sign of a poor signal.  A non-TMCC check would be to check all the lingages to make sure that nothing is too loose, or tight, and binding, and check the gears to make sure that nothing was picked up along the way.

I was going to bid on a GG-1 restore project yesterday but was informed that I have been cut off from EBay, LHS, and other hobby stores till after the new house has been built.  I did an inventory over the weekend and I have a bit more than I thought!  Big Smile [:D]  So I guess I can't complain... plus we are looking at a wide variety in house size, so I can't go overboard on purchases and not have the layout/display area for everything, so I reluctantly agreed... but I did not agree to stop reading and posting to the boards! Jim,
Soldering at night and sanding in the morning!  Sounds like a good time to me!  Big Smile [:D]

Well we are experiencing our first cold spell of the season here in ol' Bal'mer!  They are expecting a few days of below normal temps due to the nice little storm the folk's out West have cooked up for us Easterners!

Not sure if the dinner car is going to be able to make through the mountains this morning, maybe though since this was the first morning in 2 months that I have actually eaten anything resembling breakfast!

--- Train update ---
Spoke with a nicer fellow from CharlesRo last night and he told me the 0-8-0 shipped out on Thursday or Friday last week, that means it should be here today! :)  Also the EOB upgrade board should be in today as well!  Now the dilemma - open and run new engine or work on EOB upgrade?

Good morning, everyone!

Icy here today. My driveway was like a skating rink. As we say up here "six sheets of ice". So I sanded it and put down some calcium chloride and off to work I went. Three days at home with kids was enough for me!!!

Good to see so many people contributing to the pot. Hang in there, guys. We will get the forum back to where it belongs.

I did something yesterday that I've never done before. Soldering. Not rocket science (I should know), but slightly tricky for a first timer. I think I did ok. I ended up with shiny joints and everything is stuck together.

Chief, Thank you for your patience, good advice, and help last night.  Sorry to be such a bother. Oh, did the doctor's finger smell bad?

Doug M., I hope your son is feeling better.

Dougdagrump, What a game! Some poor sportsmanship at the end though. And I don't mean by the Patriots. Good bye, Marty!!!
