Morning!

Youngest is finally sleeping thru the night!  I'm not.  Brutus how 'bout a little sumpin' sumpin' to get me back to sleep...this is the third time tonight for me.  Old habits.

Wes:  Great photos!  Was that your little shack in the woods we saw?

Chief:  That's a lot of new homes...Did you sneek in the relocation order too?

Slow here the last few days...Rain, cold, humid...Hopefully today will bring better fall weather...and a trip to the zoo!

Sorry to hear of the troubled times on the west coast, foggy here in Columbus no accidents yet.

Yahoo/att is trying to force me to upgrade my browser, not sure if I should try the link to update it or not.

Good morning from New England. Another nice day out there today, so I'll be walking at lunch time.

Last night was a busy one. Worked late, then buffed out the wife's car's new paint. It shines like a mirror.

Got to look over Brent's train cars after that. It looks to me like the tender's hole was caused by the whistle mechanism striking the shell in a fall. I'm going to start photographing it tonight and hope to document the progress of the restoration as I go along. Just for curiosity, I took a cotton swab and some soapy water and tried cleaning one of the letters, an "A" in Pennsylvania. I accidently removed it. Just kidding. It cleaned up to a bright white from the yellowish tint it had. So the first step is to disassemble and clean. Then start filling the hole somehow.

Looks like someone is going to have fun teasing me throughout this whole process!  LOL!  No biggie, I'm a trooper! Smile [:)] Not sure about the fall, but I know I never dropped the tender - I'm too careful with my trains to drop them, only had one derailment that resulted in a 36 fall for the 2020 and tender (tender was shipped to Jim earlier this year, still have not learned its fate) Confused [%-)]...

So last night Susan and I went to WalMart to pick up a dehumidifier to suck out the marrow of life from the water infested plywood underlayment that was nailed and liquid nailed to to the subflooring in the moldy toilet room, that is too small for my fat *** to work in, making demolition take and exorbidantly long time to complete (kind of like this sentence)... while checking out the price rings up as $149.97, I said, 'The price on this sticker says $138.00'... cashier says, 'I can give it to you for that price.'  She punches some numbers and it rings up $124.20... register locks up and she has to call a manager.  The manager comes over and looks it over and starts to rering the entire order, in the meantime some guy walks over and starts talking to the manager, he says, 'That's the price on the shipping label, not the actual price. You can't sell it to them for that, as there could have been a price adjustment.'  Gab, Gab, Gab... he looks at me and asks, 'Where there any other prices marked on the shelf?'  I said, 'No'.  'OK then you can sell it to them for $138.00.'  I said, 'Thanks. If you hadn't I would have left it here, gone home, and called your home office and raised a rucus, and maybe even called the BBB and State Attorny General and had you investigated for price fraud.  That is the only price marked on this item - and the only way all of the items back there are marked, and you are going to try and tell me that isn't the price?  Come on.'  He said, 'Sorry, but that is policy.' Banged Head [banghead] If the thing didn't weight 50 lbs I would have smacked him with it!  (At least it would have made me feel better)...

off to do some work... oh, that's right I forgot my new programming books at home... guess I'll have to find something else to do today... Smile [:)]

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cloudy 55 degrees. Sun is trying to come out. Going up to 76 today. Maybe a little rain later.

Today is the day that I drive to Cambridge, to do the weekly shopping. We need groceries, and it's nice to eat, so I guess I have to. Gas prices are still high, and I heard that they will go up more. That is not good.

No time for trains today. Wish there was. Maybe tomorrow.

Indians won last night. Only need one more game to win the ALCS.

Dining Car rolled in and it's time for breakfast. Later.

Y'all have a great Wednesday.

Brent,

You can use anything of my pictures that you want, free of charge.  We rented that 3000ft house for the weekend.  Not to shabby...

Also, if I knew you were looking for a treadmill, I would have made you a killer deal on mine.  I purchased it a little more than a year ago and it only has about 30 miles on it...Its a very nice one.  My knees kinda gave out from running too much.

I started removing the devider wall that I currently have in the new train room.  This will open it up to the 11.5 x 21 that I get to try to devide to meet my train and music room needs.  I don't think I really need that whole space for trains.  I would have $25K in it by the time I finish!  I'm going to try to get the wall set after work today, and redo the ceiling, paint, ect.  That way I can get the trains moved and running, then work on the other room.  Wish me luck.

Good morning all,

It is foggy in SE Indiana this morning with temps in the 70s today.  Lucas got a C+ for the first nine weeks in Math, which was a pleasant surprise.  I hope he can maintain that for the semester.  I did weights and track at the YMCA, and I was tired.  I see where Helio survived another week on "Dancing with the Stars".   My daughter and grandson are ok, but they accidentally drove down a street yesterday close to where some idiot was firing shots into the air.  The police had most of the streets blocked off, but she stumbled onto the one side street that was not.  Sometimes the angels do guard you.  Dbaker48, I also heard about the other traffic accidents as well.  Seems like those sorts of events happen in waves.  Doug, it is nice to be able to be in the classroom and still post as well.  Chief, you are way too busy, and Brent, good luck with your projects.  I see where the dining car arrived with the usual fare.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Wes,
I didn't know WE (I was informed this morning that I will be using the treadmill after the bathroom is finished) were getting one till Susan had it purchased.  I asked it this meant my B&O E-7s were coming for Christmas... I got hit for that one... Confused [%-)]

Thanks for letting me print some pics!  They are truly amazing... You could make some My 2 cents [2c] selling them for publication.

Sounds awesome on the train room!  Why make two seperate rooms for trains and music?  They go great together...

I'm surprised those pictures turned out as well as they did.  I guess it proves that you can get good shots from a point and shoot camera, especially if it has image stabilization.  That is the single best feature to get if you are getting a camera.  Let me know how big you were able to blow up the pictures before pixelization.  Its only a 6.0 Mb camera.

It's amazing how if the wife goes on a diet, we go on a diet.  If my wife was a vegatarian, that would pretty much make me a vegatarian at home...thank goodness we are not!

As for the room, I guess I just wanted to have a theme change and be able to close off the trains from the rest of the house.  Our basement is all burgundy, and pretty dark.  I planned on making the train room light with a lighter paint color on the walls.  I haven't decided yet.  There are definately reasons to leave that room nice and big though...

Also,

if you just want the .jpg file sent to you, just tell which ones (You can email me if you want to).  Shutterfly has the hi-res pictures which they use when you buy a print from them, but I don't think you can download it from their site.  Just a little compressed one.  Just let me know.  I have a few more to put up on another SD storage card.  They are more of the train itself.

Same thing with the videos.  They are heavily compressed by google.  The originals are very clear.

MORNING ALL,

Overcast 61,maybe 71 by days end but sct.  storms in forecast for tonite and Thur.   I hope the Chief didn't eat that stuff just before bedtime. Afternoons ok but not bedtime.

Brutus- sorry I missed the ice cream and chips, you know my weakness. I checked the "pot"around 9:30 and coffee was old so I went to bed.

Brent-I think it was you, Mich has a price law that if you are charged more than the sticker price, the store has to refund the difference plus pay you a penalty of up to $5.00. Even if the item was less than $5.00. They also have a law that all items are sticker priced. But that one is not enforced unless the state gets lots of complaints.   Maybe some more train running today. Later, Sir James

It ends tomorrow night. Guaranteed. I can't see the Red Sox winning this. All the Boston papers are filled with stories of Boston players showing no mental fortitude in the club house after each loss.  And their best centerfielder sits on the bench watching instead of playing. So tomorrow night in Cleveland, Red Sox Nation turns into Red Sox Elimi-Nation.  Dead [xx(]

Brent I've always been told if there is a lower acually sticker that belongs to the item they have to sell it to you for that price.  I've had a few stores including walmart try to say well theres been a price change and the new price is this or that I have to sell it at that price and I just tell them federal law states you have to sell it at the lower priced marked . They normally back down at that point as they know there wrong and I know the law about it.

BIG POT OF GRITS WAITING JUST FOR YOU!!!!!

Morning all.  Got things to do and pack for Baton Rouge.  Just think, tomorrow evening al that crawfish and shrimp. Laugh [(-D]  SEND RAIN [maybe tomorrow they say].  Super water restrictions in effect.  Can't wash cars and use sprinklers nor pressure wash.  Now all business car washes and pressure washers are OK.  Raleigh says, "We don't want to hurt businesses". If water is short, cut them out too.  Chat later.  Have a good day.

RT, I believe that that is a misconception.  It obviously is good business practice, but I don't think there is ANY federal law to that affect.  You don't know what law it is or where it can be found do you?  Just asking? Confused [%-)]

YUCK!  I would rather starve than eat grits... of course there is no nourishment in grits so I'd die even if I did eat them! LOL!

Wes - I'll gather a list and send it via email.

Jim - That tender looks awesome!  I still can't believe you didn't find anything wrong with the trucks... I swear they were messed up when I sent it... hopefully I didn't send my good one... Confused [%-)]

Chuck - yeah I know the walk would do me some good... get me out of this cubical and see some light and breathe fresh air (if I go the right way, the other way goes through the smoker zone which means there is no oxygen in the air).

Good morning from a sunny and warm Chicago where I hope to go walking too at lunch today - maybe to the Art Institute or maybe all the way up Michigan Ave. Breakfast today was a cup of yogurt. Hope to find some coffee. Supposed to rain again tomorrow - maybe big storms by afternoon. Hope it heads southwards after visiting Mike C in Indiana.  Sold most everything via OGR's forum. After I finish all the transactions, I'll start looking for Thomas and friends...

Brent, one of the trucks had a wheel issue if I remember correctly. I fixed it with a parts box spare. We have a big train show coming up next month. I need to stock up on spare trucks, etc.

Rain expected here tomorrow, Friday, and possibly into Saturday.

I'm dying to get started on that tender. It's going to be a challenge.

Late Morning all from beautiful Southern Ohio

Sunny cool and beautiful out.  I am thankful to be off on such a nice day.  Despite homework and rain I got the two long sides formed up, squared leveled and braced for the garage floor concrete.  Hope to finish the end today.

Jim-what buffing compound did you use?  For the tender hole, I’ve made repairs using  bondo auto filler that is compatible with plastic or metal depending on the repair.  Duct tape across the back side, fill, and sand.

Brent-did to rot get to the joists?

Doing a little reconfiguring on the layout to put Gabe the Lamplighter on the table.  While under the table going to put the electromagnetic crane and maybe the second coaler and there is the baggage loader.  .  .  I need more room!!!!

May God bless

I first sanded down the roof with 800 grit w/d sandpaper, followed by MicroMark sanding cloths 2400 - 12000 grit. Then I polished it with Turtle Wax polishing compound. The end result was a very high gloss. In a week or 2 I'll wax it and that will be the final luster. I also painted the trunk lid, but didn't have time to sand that smooth last night. My wife is ecstatic with how much better the car looks. And when she's happy, I'm happy.

A lot of people swear by Preparation H for a tender hole, Jim. Laugh [(-D] Thumbs Up [tup]

Don't know yet... after spending 1 hour and only getting a 1.5 x 1.5 foot area pulled up I gave up for the night.  The dehumidifier is working wonders though, the surface of the boards look dry as a bone this morning and it was still running, so I guess it is sucking the water out from inside the boards... hopefully that will make them more brittle and easier to remove when I get home tonight... I've been so frustrated by this portion of the project that I haven't taken pictures... Banged Head [banghead] I seriously thought about dropping an M-80 into the toilet room last night (that was when I decided I better stop Whistling [:-^])...
